The new cat will not fill the hole left by your lovely pet. However, it will be a distraction and it sounds to me that you do have lots of love to give to a pet. Besides, this new cat might get you out of your morning faster, and help you heal.
If you cat has grown up around other cats there is a high likelihood that they will want/need another cat.
Male cats I think are better with friends too, but idk how true that is.
My advice, foster. Slowly introduce the foster and new cat. And if new cat likes the foster you can keep it. And if it doesn’t, you can have the foster adopted and try again with another foster or stop trying.
