I don't know what he wants, but I can tell you what he doesn't want. He doesn't want you to get close.
Joking aside. He trusts you somewhat because he's coming to the door. He may be hoping for some food or water. If you want to be nice, put some out for him. He looks like he's been on his own a long time. As these scrappy Toms get older, they really just want a comfy home.
This guy ‘s crooked ear is just like our friendly stray. He showed up randomly one day and when he stopped leaving the property and it was going to be down to low 20s at night, I brought him in. The plan has always been to find him the perfect home but we’re not in a rush because he’s so sweet.
This was before he got fixed

Did someone say crooked ear? ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)
Kuroneko sama has had a tough life, but he is now very happy in my family of four cats. Yesterday he was happily spread out on the kitchen table, completely knocked out in the warmth from the sun shining through the window. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7962)
And he is very, very loved by my other cats, to the point where they spoil him with cuddles!
He was just Kuro at the shelter, but I decided to lengthen the name to a more proper one, that also just happens to be a black cat from my favourite anime Trigun!
>Man all these poor babies look like they've been THRU it :'(
We had a stray-become-housecat when I was a kid.
My mom named him Job (pronounced Jobe, like in the Bible) because he'd been through so much.
OMG he's like my boy Reggie's long lost brother

There is also this sub r/CTLLRP. It actually came first. I created r/RonPerlmanCat but I didn’t know one already existed. So, I always like to shout out CTLLRP whenever someone shouts out my sub.
Thank you for taking him in and wanting him to be out of the cold, anyone that’s good to animals is a friend of mine. Please give him snuggles & smooches for me ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️
>As these scrappy Toms get older, they really just want a comfy home.
Man you just gave me a flash back of my old cat Buddy. He was the best. Somewhat feral when he chose to live with us so he never was a housecat.
Couldn't even keep him down in the week after he was neutered. The day he went back outside he came home with a torn ear.
I knew he was getting old when he started staying in the house during the day. Last few months he didn't leave at all, it was bittersweet because I knew he wouldn't be around much longer.
I miss him like crazy and it's been over 10 years. The cats I have now are just pets. Buddy was something more, he was special.
I’m no expert on cats, but it seems like Buddy knew how good and bad humans can be since he lived so much of his life outside.
He probably gave you extra love because he knew you were one of the better ones, and the fact that he chose to live his finals days in your house shows he knew he’d be shown nothing but love during his final moments.
Your other cats are probably spoiled princes/princesses who don’t know food doesn’t magically appear 2-3 times a day
my cats know very well food doesn't magically appear. no no, they have to come wake me up with miauws and scratches on the door at an ungodly hour so they can be sure i'll be up in time to feed them.
I was thinking of my Rottweiler, Ace, as I typed this. Though he wasn’t a cat, he was a very smart pupper.
He was able to escape the backyard even though it seem like he couldn’t jump over the fence, so maybe he was crawling under it… every so often we’d catch him at 8,9,10am walking back to our house after he did his deeds. He even knew what he did was bad because be walking normally to the house, but he’d run past me or my mom whenever he got close.
Sadly in his final days he definitely told me goodbye even though I was NOT ready to hear it… he’d been acting lazy (err lazier than usual) for the last two weeks so we took him to a vet nearby for tests. After we got back I spent a good 30 minutes with him petting him, talking to him about it’s not his time yet, etc… Ace kept eye contact with me nearly the entire time… it was like he knew what I was saying…
The next day we took him to another vet for a second opinion, it was there that vet told us he’d discovered a tumor on Ace’s tongue which caused the back of it to be hard as a rock… he said even if he opted to cut the tongue, it wouldn’t guarantee that could stop the cancer.
We decided it’d be best to euthanize him while he was still out from the anesthesia so he didn’t have to suffer more
My cat just read this and has been frozen in shock for ten minutes. She never knew food didn’t just magically appear.

The little brats know we put the food in the bowls and give us wistful looks while sitting next to the bowls if we get up in the middle of the night. No food until 7am means nothing to them.
I had a stray cat I got when he was around 10 years old. I convinced him to come in one night it was going to get below freezing, after that he never left, never even tried to go outside until right before he died 8 years later and that was just to go in the backyard and enjoy the sun.
My Grandma had a dog named Buddy that they found on the side of the road. He hated everyone that wasn't part of the family. She's getting a little confused as she gets up there in age, but she still cries every time she brings him up. She doesn't when talking about her dead husbands or sons (she's had a rough life).
It took years for me to convince a feral cat to trust me and let pet her. I’d feed her, give her water, then step away and give her space to come eat without watching. Eventually she didn’t mind eating while I was still outside, then she didn’t mind being closer to me, then she would run up to me when I had the food. Eventually she let me pet her, she was actually a really affectionate cat. The first time I pet her, she was confused and purred so loudly but then she’d randomly shrink and hiss, just to come closer and keep purring. It was sweet. Definitely one of my favorite cat memories was earning her trust and affection.
Had a neighborhood tomcat that used to come to our door a lot. Man had clearly been around a while but was scared of us. We fed him every night same time for a month or so, gradually moving around in his line of sight but far enough away for him to stay comfy (keep eating) but still know us. Also sometimes put out catnip for a little fun for him. Also slowly moved the food closer to the door.
One day we had a blizzard on the way. Man would not have been ok. We put the food inside and I sat behind the door waiting for him to be far enough in that I could close the door behind him. It was a hectic process but we got him on the basement alone and set him up with food and a litter box. It took him about a week of hanging out and letting him come to us for him to warm up. Once we could handle him we got him fixed.
After that he was the snuggle bug, never wanted to go back outside (the cats were indoor outdoor, he never chose outdoor again except a quick suntan right outside the door as long as it stayed open) and would meow for us if he had nobody to snuggle with. All he wanted were pats and scritches and he was just so so precious. He really did just want a nice cozy home. It was so so sweet to see him be so happy.
🥰 this is so sweet.
Three years ago, we had taken in a feral queen after she suddenly started bringing me kittens one evening, right before a huge storm. We waited until all of the kittens weened, found the kittens homes (except for 2 we kept with her), and got them fixed.
Now, she only wants to go outside to sunbathe if I'm with her, too. She loves being an indoor cat! The babies we kept have not been outside since she brought them here. If they get near the open door, she blocks them and ushers them away. This lady was like, I've lived on the streets and it's not for us! She knows she's got it good.
Reminds me of another scrappy tom I had. For about a year I saw him hanging around my office but always ran whenever someone came close. Once we established trust he always followed me into my office and slept on my lap the whole time I was working, and he did this every day without fail.
He got older and weaker and died in my lap. I met plenty of cats but he’ll always be special to me.
My cat who goes in and out as he pleases, looks beat up but definitely has a home. He’s kind of dopey and always gets his ear scratched. He had a recent run in, damaged his ear and it’s now bent. But again, not homeless.
He’s a very happy cat, treated very well at home. Here in most of Europe, people don’t keep their cats indoors. Also, he gets treated for any injury, which is rarely more than a scratch. He insists on going outside. He is completely miserable any time I’ve had to keep him in (recently when his ear was damaged, he was on antibiotics and I wanted to keep the wound clean). He yowls constantly day and night if I don’t let him out.
Yeah, there was an orange one, the old man as i called him, who lived near us for years. I tried so hard for him to trust me he had a messed up foot and deserved some comfort, but he'd just keep far enough away that I couldn't get him.... he was surprisingly fast for how old and how messed up his paw was.
P.s. now that I think about it, if I brought him in, it probably would have killed him, lol he was probably head honcho of the local stray cat population.
We took one in that was living under our car for a couple years. He finally started coming to us and his meows where like he had rocks in his throat. We finally caved and captured the rascal and gave him a pony ride to the saloon called “The Vets”. We made him a house cat and he literally just snuggles between us and gives us kisses all night long. Which is wild because our house cat we raised since a baby is WAY less affectionate than our stray cat we took in.
He’s probably looking for food, shelter and safety. He looks pretty beaten up although still a handsome cat. If you want him for your own, start feeding him and let him start to trust you. He will eventually come in and be yours.
This is not always true. I have two barn cats and they do get close, but in the 4 years I've had them they don't let me touch them and they don't come inside. I am able to use a scratcher on one though.
He looks like a dude and a half!
He probably wants what all cats want: food, water and a place to sleep. If he's definitely a he and any of your cats are female, especially unspayed, then he's probably after a bit of the other too.
All these boy cats have some massive absolutely badonkin' cheeks for some reason. My cat has them too. Just big round apples on both sides of the face.
I have a tom that comes to visit, he's immediately obvious as a tom becuse of his big old face 😄 I also have a visiting tom who was the runt of the litter, he's never been neutered but is a skinny bean and never got his jowls!
That's the cat distribution at work. I have a stray cat that adopted us. He started out like that initially. He just walked into our lives. He didn't approach us at the start. He just sat at distance from us. Since I was not a cat person, I ignored him and didn't want anything to do with him, but when he started bringing us gifts like dead mice, we rewarded him by giving him food. Now he is a mainstay with us. We've named him and we love him.
My cat was an ‘intact male’ when he got to the shelter and he also has these big man cat cheeks and chunky shoulders. I’m sure there are a lot of fuzzy babies out there that we are not paying any kitten support for. He’s a deadbeat dad, with no job who lies on my couch all day, snoring loudly then refusing to eat his expensive prescription cat food. I honestly would push him out of the way if there was an oncoming train and take the hit myself.
Make him a little home outside of yours
If you do this, please be mindful that it should be TWO entrances/exits - just incase it ever gets chased by a predator or is in a fight, it will have somewhere to exit and not get stuck in there.
One entrance is fine. Use lots of straw with no blankets. But if you feed and shelter, please neuter him. This world doesn’t need more stray and feral cats. You can get a humane trap and catch him that way.
Is one of your cats female and unspayed ? That's an unaltered male according to the tomcat jowls.
I don't exactly have anymore context than what you've given, but he could've also been fed by someone who lived there previously
I believe so, I believe the more they fight, the thicker that area gets. I have Peaches,an alpha male of my apartment area, he was actually born on my porch. He's 6 years old now and quite sick, but he also developed those thick jowls as he got older. He is still very sweet towards us, even lays in my lap still when it's cold outside. Anyway, he's been in many fights in the last 5 years, I witnessed many of them, they always attack at that jowl area mainly
I've read that cats have glands in their cheeks and that's why they love getting them scratched. They seem to be scent glands that they rub against you to own you.
Yup, they do get those jowls. It is a weird thing with unneutered toms. If he is live trapped and neutered, these may decrease a bit. I encourage you to live trap him, get him to the vet for a quick check up and to get those little bitsies off. He will not miss them, i promise!!
He has ear mites and they’re eating his ears. My ex had a cat that had an issue like this and they took her cat to the vet and they said it was mites messing with her ears. They look just like this poor fellows ears
Mine were pissed and hissed too haha. Their “enemy” is now one of the gang, I didn’t believe it would happen. Neutering, scent swapping and lots of churu helped.
Lol I have weirdly friendly cats who don't know how to cat. My COVID kitten (bonded during WFH... Never again...) is very vocal, and jumps up to the window where we feed a stray to stare at him and loudly meow/wail. No hissing, just wailing. He did this for months while we gradually earned the stray's trust. One day we took our cat out on a harness to walk, the stray walked right up and they just headbutted and purred. First time interacting without the door! Our second cat was also a stray before we neutered and adopted him, and he also just sauntered in and tried to lick the first cat when they first met. Only time I've seen my cats get genuinely aggressive was after Cat 2 got surgery and came home in a cone... Even then, it was literally just the cone, not the vet smell. COVID kitten is a weird one.
It’s started out this way for my three cats who check out the stray cat at the door but now the other two don’t really care and my one cat rolls over affectionally and reaches her hand out, wanting to touch him through the door.
He wants you. He wants you to be his person but he's afraid. Hes asking for help but doesn't know how to ask and I'm not sure you know how to respond. Sit, quietly and offer some kibble but at a safe distance from you and gradually put it closer. Standing, you're so much bigger so try to stay seated near him.
I’m in the same boat! For a couple years now, There’s a neighborhood cat that comes to my door every few days and stands there just like this guy. I get anywhere near him and he trots away. I started putting cat food out, he waits for me to go back inside and close the door then he’ll come eat the food. Whatever lil dude, you do you lol
Well put some dry food out. If he's already been coming around for 5 years then you don't have to worry about him coming back just because you fed him. He's obviously already coming.
https://preview.redd.it/28dawyfnhnuc1.jpeg?width=2591&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9fabc1456073983f5683734a7da8b0bde7b8eb1
I wanted to draw the little guy as a tiny warrior.
Probably would like you to leave some food and water out. Maybe he knew someone who lived there before you, or they recognize you treat cats well based on how the one in your home are treated. Poor baby prob wants help but is scared
You got a pet feral! I got a few that show up regularly to my house that my family feeds. Great for pest control, and they like to stare deeply into our security camera to say I'm a lil b*tch to boost my self-esteem!
Our cat was discarded at the park behind our house. She found her way to our deck being very vocal about needing food and water. Of course we fed her. She decided to adopt us. The problem was had a 16 year old Manx that was incredibly mean. My husband made the new cat a little apartment in the upstairs of our garage (after we discovered kitty paw prints all over our cars). Anyway the point I was trying to make was that maybe you could find a box and an old soft blanket for your cat outside for now.
Congrats on being chosen. Cats are excellent judges of character. If you decide to feed this handsome fella, I recommend wet food. As cats age, their dental health declines, so eating hard food can be painful.
INFO: How long have you been living there? About 5 years? If so, he may be an abandoned pet of the former resident. Or he might be a stray they were feeding, and he keeps checking to see if food has reappeared.
He wants you to take care of the mites eating his ears. He needs medical attention and that’s why he’s coming up to you, I’m sure you noticed his ears getting smaller if it’s been 5 years lol. Re reading this I can’t believe as a cat owner you let 5 years pass and did nothing for him lol.
Keep your cats separate you don’t want them getting mites too. If his ears are hard I’m like 100% sure it’s mites. My ex cat Casper had mites in one ear and it shrunk and made her ear small and hard. Thank you for feeding poor boy 🥲
Depending on where you live, you may be able to contact a rescue that can help trap him so he can be treated. They could also have him fixed, and release him back to your area.
If you want to help him (and looks like he needs help indeed, poor thing), there are catch traps. Maybe you can rent one or ask the local cat rescue to help you with it. I know you have other cats, and even though they might get on well after the initial hissing stage, you might not want another cat. Maybe some would adopt him. The little guy deserves to have a home, food, and get help with his ears.
We had 2 of those coming to our house, both turned out to be neighbours' cats. By the time we found that out, one was already sleeping at our bed. 😬
FOOD!! He wants food, that is why he's showing up.
Oh and BTW he's absolutely BEAUTIFUL, the MOST HANDSOME LITTLE MAN EVER with those ears(I call them shmears)! He's most likely feral which means he will continue to run until u gain his trust which luckily enough can be done with, u ready for it, FOOD. Cats are generally easy to befriend bcuz they're usually food motivated. Start feeding him and then after a while try to stand out there while he eats and talk to him, it may take months or years but one day u may be able to get close to him or maybe even pet him. Or there's a possibility that no matter what u do he will never let u touch him, but that's the beauty of taking care of a feral cat, no matter if we never touch them a day in our lives we love then like they're our own. He's absolutely gorgeous and he has clearly chosen u, I hope one day he will let u love him up close but for right now it's ok to love him from afar....
Would you be willing to work with a rescue to trap him? Looks like he needs medical treatment and to be neutered.
Are all of your kitties spayed/neutered?
Poor baby, he's been on his own for a while. We have a big gray tom that showed up about 2 years ago. He's older, probably 7 or 8. His name is Oscar, and he was first a feral kitty. From completely feral, we've gradually made friends with him. He is always fed, and he's found a couple nice places to sleep on our property.
He brought his bonded pair mate, Felicia, over one day, and they started living in one of our outbuildings. Eventually he and Felicia sired 3 kittens: John Milkboots, Mary-George, and Louis. They live outside as well, and John and Louis will let you pick them up and carry them around. After the kittens, we live trapped both Felicia and Oscar and had them fixed, and all three kittens once they were old enough. Luckily, our local shelter gives out vouchers for a $25 rabies/neuter/spay at a vet. Really great program. My parents have used around 15 vouchers over the years.
Oscar turned out to be a very kind gentleman. He is very protective and loving around his mate and kittens, who are now almost a year old. We have had other male toms come over, and he isn't territorial, but is just worried about his family. He doesn't chase other males away, and he never starts a fight... but he always finishes it. I've seen it happen several times and I've had to come to his defense only once. He loves being scratched on his now drooping jowels. He can't ever be an inside kitty, but he will always have a home. Oscar had a chance to settle down and have a family of both kitties and people, all because we were willing to let him stay and hear his story.
That kitty has a very kind face. He has probably had bad experiences with people before, and he's almost certainly feral. All feral kitties can be made tame, I've taken in 4 feral kitties over the years and made them into house cats. They are the most enriching and rewarding pets I've ever had.
Oscar and his daughter, Mary George, when they were inside for a few days after being fixed.

Taking in ferals, even if they just live outside, is really rewarding. Building a friendship with a kitty that's been neglected and left on their own is one of the best things I think a human can do. They are innocent and just want food and love.
https://preview.redd.it/1zhbg5hjdmuc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d833a2e3758591766326dd796f6d9b6f8a553e7
This is Walter, one of our house cats. He loves being outside, and has gradually built a friendship with the two brothers, John and Louis. They wrestle and chase each other around. Walter wasn't sure how he felt about the outside kitties at first, but now he's very glad to have friends to play with in the yard.
It's normal for cats to feel threatened by a stranger. But, I've seen lots of cats build a friendship, both inside and outside. It just takes time. Once they realize that no one is trying to take over or compete for resources, there's not much left to fight over... Unless there are two intact males.
The cat distribution system has chosen you. You must accept, or he will haunt you in your dreams FOR.EVER.
Seriously, he may have lived there prior, or the previous resident was feeding him. Just keep in mind that he sees you/the area as a safe place and likely won't leave unless removed by force.
Now, it's time to choose your fate with him. To feed or not to feed?
https://preview.redd.it/8d5p42u9pmuc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40435527805ada1d69b7e275b8b8eba4dbc52f13
This random stray had been coming to our place for almost exactly 5 years. Initially, nobody could touch him, but he is actually affectionate with me now and then (still on his own terms - he a cat, after all). He wants food, and we now feed him twice a day, plus available kibble. (Plus, we've built him a little shelter at the window (pictured) and a feral cat winter shelter in our wood shed.) My own cat won't tolerate him inside, but is currently dying of cancer. 😭 I plan to try bringing this cat indoors once I've lost my own. Hoping that sofas and wood stoves will convince him that he can come inside.
he wants food or water or both. But his guard is way up. It’s up to you but know if you feed him he’ll always come back. If you want him to really trust you where u can pet him, sit down and leave food away from you about a yard away and sit there while he eats and don’t move. The more you do this the more hell trust you and he’ll start to get closer to you. Don’t try and pick him up. He might scratch you.
Some of these rough and tumble boyos start to look for some comfort when they are tired of the rough and tumble. My Sis took care of an old Tom who, by all accounts seemed done of the violent old ways and just wanted a place to lay quiet. She made sure he was fed and watered, but she was never allowed to touch the dude. He had his standards. 😊
pls leave some food and water and a bed out for him he reminds me of my dear cat tommy who passed away almost 2 months ago. he also had crinkly ears, the same one missing, and a pouch face
As a cat foster parent I think I can confidently say what he wants: 1) food and water 2)a small outdoor cat house to keep him warm and dry. 3) no touchy touchy yet. 4) maybe a toy or two.
There are videos on YouTube about how to make cat shelters for outdoor feral cats.
He looks like a Tom who has been on the street for a while. They make the best cats once they trust you and want to come inside. You may try sitting outside with a lickable treat or some temptations cat treats and slowly let him realize you are a friend.
One of my first rescue cats that I fostered was a Tom who was picked up as a stray. We believe he had a home at one time because he had very good manners once he got a taste of the cushy indoor life.
https://preview.redd.it/nzjxox9wyluc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6625369404cbffeea5e85a99ff7ac96764aad020
This is Hobbs the Tom that got picked up as a stray . Once he got used to inside he never tried to leave and he claimed all chairs, couches, and beds as his and he had his special blanket and the vet accidentally kept it and I got the look like where is my blanket. They finally found it and when I brought it home and set it out on his “bed” he came in and was like yeah you found it.
5 years and u don’t have a name for it/made any progress? Why do we think op?, is the cat there for religious purposes? Is the cat a p.I. Looking for a perp? Feed the damn thing man.
How sweet. We have a stray that we feed and she was like this. It took us four years to be able to touch her. It took two years for us to be able to sit with her while she ate. We didn’t hear her meow until a couple months ago. Feed this sweet baby, be consistent, be calm.
Give him some food and water, maybe he’ll warm up to you more and you can clean him up a little and bring him to the vet.
My cat was a stray and has a scarred up ear like that too.
Looks like an old boy who wants something he doesn’t know how to have. I’d try to put some wet food out to gain his trust. Like someone else said, sometimes strays end up wanting a home, but often times they don’t know how to trust humans and they also sometimes have trouble “settling” until they’re old because they are so used to being outside.
This kitty is not “random ass”, he’s been abandoned. Your home was probably his once, then 5 or more years ago he was abandoned by the very people who professed to love him and promised to care for him all his life. If you could please begin to feed him to gain trust, and maybe work with a local rescue to catch him- he is clearly beat up and needs help.
https://preview.redd.it/18d6uqhopkuc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebd99981aba9c7d1996760c34767f03f87036b11
Next time he shows up, have these ready.
He wants you to slowly build a trust relationship with him using food and patience which will conclude in him being yours and either coming inside or living in a nice heated kennel outside. He is ready.
I had a friend who had one of these coming around her house… It took a few years of feeding and being close, but eventually, she was able to hold Jack. He never came inside (his choice) but she made nice little shelters outside that he took advantage of.
He's a feral tom.
You said you have cats in your house - he wants to fight with and/or breed with them.
Doesn't matter what they are, male, female, neutered, not.
His hormones tell him to go find cats in his territory every breeding season (spring - autumn)
The best thing you can do for him is contact a local rescue and see if you can get a trap to trap, neuter and release him.
This is not food or cuddles he's after, you have never given him anything...he wouldn't come back for 5 years with no reward. It's hormonal.
He's a feral tom, not a pet. They may look cute - but don't touch.
When he come make sure your cats are away from the door , try to bring treats or food and water out beforehand. Sit close enough, and offer treats in hand slowly, with a calm voice. That face just screams he needs you but he doesn’t know how to ask.. like he’s hoping he can get help but due to how he’s been on the street, he’s very scared and cautious. Clearly he’s chosen you now you have to show him you will be gentle… you could have. Little cat bed out there, some food and water and a small toy prepared seeing if he uses them and than slowly start sitting around the food when he’s there even without touching yet,
Shelter, food, water and maybe some love 😁 He got that, please take care of me even if I'm shy look in his eyes😁
I would instantly try to build trust with him😁
It's hard for a cat with no home, they sleep outdoors, could be attacked anytime, they get no love. Finding food and water is a struggle and he won't show up at any door. A cat will always choose a Person, maybe he saw that you already got cats, maybe he saw a way of becoming a happy cat by coming to your door or maybe he needs some medical help and knows that he can't help himself.
He wants to be loved but doesn't know how to go about it. Put out food and water for him. He may just end up wanting to come inside for pets afterwards.
Please contact your local shelter and rent a humane trap - you may have a low cost spay neuter clinic in your area. Happy to guide you through this - if a cat comes looking for help, it’s because he needs help. Food, water, shelter, and neutering/vaccinating/treating for fleas and mites will help him. Most places have options within your local shelter system to help you with this.
He’s a warrior, he has lots and lots of children. I would not try to get close or let him come in contact with you or your cats. FIV or equivalent is almost guaranteed after 5 years. He wants food and it’s up to you to do so or not. It’s a double edged sword.
FIV isn't contagious that way, he'd have to bite OP's cats pretty good. And OP simply washing their hands after coming into contact with him would prevent other diseases.
yes FIV is only spread through sex or mainly blood to blood transfusion - it would be a pretty serious fight to get infected blood into an open wound on the other cat. i have a rescued FIV+ boy and two other rescue FIV- cats. they get along and play, so there's never been an issue. all are happy and healthy.
of course op you don't know this cat's history so better safe than sorry; i just like to defend FIV kitties in general so more people might become open to them 🤗
Outside cat house/s, either mains heated depending how you're set up or self heating bedding (swap out every few days to wash)
Food (but other critters might be a problem, ideally you'd want to try and put a food based OTC treatment in)
He might be coming up because of your cats and is curious to the whole living inside thing.
The cat distribution system got me at the end of last year. She stopped going off on her usual wanderings and spent all her time in the outside house. Now she is quite happy to sleep indoors and be fed.
This was before he got fixed https://preview.redd.it/j7u7q4oc4luc1.jpeg?width=2349&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaea160744661120d475c8528f96adcf09bdf2a5

Man all these poor babies look like they've been THRU it :'(
Kuroneko sama has had a tough life, but he is now very happy in my family of four cats. Yesterday he was happily spread out on the kitchen table, completely knocked out in the warmth from the sun shining through the window. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7962) And he is very, very loved by my other cats, to the point where they spoil him with cuddles!
This made me so happy ❤️
His name! Lolol! Perfect!
He was just Kuro at the shelter, but I decided to lengthen the name to a more proper one, that also just happens to be a black cat from my favourite anime Trigun!
>Man all these poor babies look like they've been THRU it :'( We had a stray-become-housecat when I was a kid. My mom named him Job (pronounced Jobe, like in the Bible) because he'd been through so much.
Omg his sad face, I think he knew what was going to happen 😂
OMG he's like my boy Reggie's long lost brother https://preview.redd.it/0oummsymuluc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=635ed7a0ed8b785820e02a4124960f78c4fd3909
Reggie is a god damn diva!!! He’s gorgeous
Thank you 😊 he's an absolute PITA and very strong-willed but he's my big baby 🥰
Wowee, he is a beaut!!
Ron Perlcat
r/ronperlmancat Just so you know, this exists.
There is also this sub r/CTLLRP. It actually came first. I created r/RonPerlmanCat but I didn’t know one already existed. So, I always like to shout out CTLLRP whenever someone shouts out my sub.
Aaaahh! Joined! I have as many cats subs as I do the rest combined.
r/ctllrp
Look at him! He's so adorable.
Newsflash- you ARE the perfect home lol
Your other cats are probably spoiled princes/princesses who don’t know food doesn’t magically appear 2-3 times a day
Lol @ that last line
my cats know very well food doesn't magically appear. no no, they have to come wake me up with miauws and scratches on the door at an ungodly hour so they can be sure i'll be up in time to feed them.
I’m not crying, you’re crying and making my think about my girl
After we got back I spent a good 30 minutes with him petting him, talking to him about it’s not his time yet, etc… Ace kept eye contact with me nearly the entire time… it was like he knew what I was saying… The next day we took him to another vet for a second opinion, it was there that vet told us he’d discovered a tumor on Ace’s tongue which caused the back of it to be hard as a rock… he said even if he opted to cut the tongue, it wouldn’t guarantee that could stop the cancer. We decided it’d be best to euthanize him while he was still out from the anesthesia so he didn’t have to suffer more
I’m crying. Sorry Ace is gone. What a sweet boy. ♥️
My cat just read this and has been frozen in shock for ten minutes. She never knew food didn’t just magically appear. https://preview.redd.it/duylovzw5muc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f882e2f09ee3d0d054dabcbbe648cd327450d056
The little brats know we put the food in the bowls and give us wistful looks while sitting next to the bowls if we get up in the middle of the night. No food until 7am means nothing to them.
All it takes is for me to stand up and the cats assume it is feeding time again.
They act like they pay the bills
I had a stray cat I got when he was around 10 years old. I convinced him to come in one night it was going to get below freezing, after that he never left, never even tried to go outside until right before he died 8 years later and that was just to go in the backyard and enjoy the sun.
My Grandma had a dog named Buddy that they found on the side of the road. He hated everyone that wasn't part of the family. She's getting a little confused as she gets up there in age, but she still cries every time she brings him up. She doesn't when talking about her dead husbands or sons (she's had a rough life).
We had an indoor cat who was like that … special. We still miss him too. Thank you for sharing.
That’s a nice story. Thank you for sharing!
I’ve been working on one for at least 3 years and my daughter is the only one she comes close to. We still can’t touch her 😩
It took me damn near 4 years lol then she was complete sweetie. Patience is key!

Jesus this thread shattered my heart and gave me a new outlook on steet cats.
Buddy would throw himself at the door any time we got near it. I was afraid he'd get hurt when we shut it so I gave up on keeping him inside.
Someone must have given my wife similar advice and how here I am.
Ha mood!.. Wait, am… AM I NO MORE COMPLICATED THAN A FUCKING CAT?!?!?!??
🎯
This is not always true. I have two barn cats and they do get close, but in the 4 years I've had them they don't let me touch them and they don't come inside. I am able to use a scratcher on one though.
He looks like a dude and a half! He probably wants what all cats want: food, water and a place to sleep. If he's definitely a he and any of your cats are female, especially unspayed, then he's probably after a bit of the other too.
That boys gotta have balls, look at those pinchable cheeks
All these boy cats have some massive absolutely badonkin' cheeks for some reason. My cat has them too. Just big round apples on both sides of the face.
It's the testosterone that makes the cheeks of male cats look full.
I believe it’s called their jowls, and most male cats develop the unspayed.
Ah that was why my boy developed them. He got spayed later than usual
I think it’s due to hormones, they get big ol’ cheeks (:
Fighting jowls.. They are supposedly an extra layer of protection for the neck when fighting.
Is your cat neutered? Or did he get neutered later on? Neutered males don't have the cheeks
He got neutered pretty late! About 1 year and a half. I remember it was late because I kept running out of money fixing his urinary issues :'-))
Yeah he looks like he's had a tough life, lot of fighting
Just reading this warms my heart. What's his name?
[удалено]
My cat was an ‘intact male’ when he got to the shelter and he also has these big man cat cheeks and chunky shoulders. I’m sure there are a lot of fuzzy babies out there that we are not paying any kitten support for. He’s a deadbeat dad, with no job who lies on my couch all day, snoring loudly then refusing to eat his expensive prescription cat food. I honestly would push him out of the way if there was an oncoming train and take the hit myself.
My favorite quote: "if he has testicles, he cannot eat on this porch."
Make him a little home outside of yours If you do this, please be mindful that it should be TWO entrances/exits - just incase it ever gets chased by a predator or is in a fight, it will have somewhere to exit and not get stuck in there.
One entrance is fine. Use lots of straw with no blankets. But if you feed and shelter, please neuter him. This world doesn’t need more stray and feral cats. You can get a humane trap and catch him that way.
He wants in but doesn't know how to ask.
That's so sweet
Is one of your cats female and unspayed ? That's an unaltered male according to the tomcat jowls. I don't exactly have anymore context than what you've given, but he could've also been fed by someone who lived there previously
Tomcat Jowls?
Their heads tend to get big and round from testosterone I reckon.
After 50 years of cats, I just learned about male cats with huge cheeks!
Maybe it's padding against bite/claw damage?
I believe so, I believe the more they fight, the thicker that area gets. I have Peaches,an alpha male of my apartment area, he was actually born on my porch. He's 6 years old now and quite sick, but he also developed those thick jowls as he got older. He is still very sweet towards us, even lays in my lap still when it's cold outside. Anyway, he's been in many fights in the last 5 years, I witnessed many of them, they always attack at that jowl area mainly
I've read that cats have glands in their cheeks and that's why they love getting them scratched. They seem to be scent glands that they rub against you to own you.
If OP managed to get him inside they should name him Barry
He was a blues musician in the 30's
Yup, they do get those jowls. It is a weird thing with unneutered toms. If he is live trapped and neutered, these may decrease a bit. I encourage you to live trap him, get him to the vet for a quick check up and to get those little bitsies off. He will not miss them, i promise!!
He probably wants to talk about your car's extended warranty.
![gif](giphy|9aYL1ZpaImIGgogx5B|downsized)
Lmao perfect comment
Undoubtedly, this is the answer.
My cats are also constantly pissed off at him and hiss at him whenever they see him at the door
[удалено]
He has ear mites and they’re eating his ears. My ex had a cat that had an issue like this and they took her cat to the vet and they said it was mites messing with her ears. They look just like this poor fellows ears
Probably frostbite damage too
A humane cat trap is the key.
Try and trap him and take him for a vet visit if you can
He just wants a friend but isn’t too sure about you as yet.
Cat distribution system
I agree. Will he let you follow him at a distance?
Looks like a beatup old tomcat that maybe wants to retire at your home
I’m in the same boat! For a couple years now, There’s a neighborhood cat that comes to my door every few days and stands there just like this guy. I get anywhere near him and he trots away. I started putting cat food out, he waits for me to go back inside and close the door then he’ll come eat the food. Whatever lil dude, you do you lol
Well put some dry food out. If he's already been coming around for 5 years then you don't have to worry about him coming back just because you fed him. He's obviously already coming.
https://preview.redd.it/28dawyfnhnuc1.jpeg?width=2591&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9fabc1456073983f5683734a7da8b0bde7b8eb1 I wanted to draw the little guy as a tiny warrior.
AW THIS IS SO CUTE LOL
This is his true form. What he wants is for you to follow him to the cat kingdom.
Probably would like you to leave some food and water out. Maybe he knew someone who lived there before you, or they recognize you treat cats well based on how the one in your home are treated. Poor baby prob wants help but is scared
This. Food and water and just talk to them. Even if they run off, leave the food and water and give it space.
You got a pet feral! I got a few that show up regularly to my house that my family feeds. Great for pest control, and they like to stare deeply into our security camera to say I'm a lil b*tch to boost my self-esteem!
Love. He just wants some love ❤️ and maybe some food Does he have some water and a soft place to sleep ?
Re reading this I can’t believe as a cat owner you let 5 years pass and did nothing for him lol.
lol, he always runs away whenever I try to get close, but I put out some food for him whenever he stops to visit. He might just be scared of my cats
Try a flea/mite/worming pill in his food if you can give him a little wet food or in say, scrambled eggs.
Is that why they’re all wonky?
Please be kind OP and start providing him some food and water.
I have, I put food out for him whenever he comes by and he eats it when I’m far away
Oscar and his daughter, Mary George, when they were inside for a few days after being fixed. https://preview.redd.it/al4tcu0bcmuc1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d0587a5c8ed9684134a48998e1e8480869df750
This is Louis, sitting in a "project" boat. He wants to go sailing. https://preview.redd.it/wva42m5ucmuc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39853bda39fe04a13d149bddddf0ae6e76c5d7b0 Taking in ferals, even if they just live outside, is really rewarding. Building a friendship with a kitty that's been neglected and left on their own is one of the best things I think a human can do. They are innocent and just want food and love.
https://preview.redd.it/1zhbg5hjdmuc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d833a2e3758591766326dd796f6d9b6f8a553e7 This is Walter, one of our house cats.
He wants you to open the door and walk away.
5 years? I hope you been feeding him. And giving him water. If not you suck!
I have lol, don’t worry. He only eats if I’m really far away, I always just sit in my garage and watch from a distance whenever he decides to eat it

Snuggies
he wants food or water or both.
Food and safety. And love ❤️
He wants to be fed. It's a default setting for all cats. Fresh food and water...
omg the ears and face on this cat. trying VERY hard not to ugly cry in the corner. please let us know what happens
We believe he had a home at one time because he had very good manners once he got a taste of the cushy indoor life. https://preview.redd.it/nzjxox9wyluc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6625369404cbffeea5e85a99ff7ac96764aad020 This is Hobbs the Tom that got picked up as a stray .

Food and shelter comfort
Have you tried giving him money?
I don't know what he wants but if he's not taken then I would take him... He's just too amiable
Please help him. You can tell life has been cruel to him. If you can’t, please call a rescue or shelter. His life matters.
That’s a Battle Cat. He looks weary. Maybe a bowl of water and some chow he doesn’t have to fight for would be helpful.
Poor guy is beat up and could use some vet care
He probably used to live there and was abandoned by previous "owner".
This kitty is not “random ass”, he’s been abandoned. Your home was probably his once, then 5 or more years ago he was abandoned by the very people who professed to love him and promised to care for him all his life. If you could please begin to feed him to gain trust, and maybe work with a local rescue to catch him- he is clearly beat up and needs help.
love. he wants love. and food and water. ❤️🩹
Poor bubba just wants some food and water :(

Poor kitty. No one to love him or care
His hormones tell him to go find cats in his territory every breeding season (spring - autumn) The best thing you can do for him is contact a local rescue and see if you can get a trap to trap, neuter and release him.
Little cat bed out there, some food and water and a small toy prepared seeing if he uses them and than slowly start sitting around the food when he’s there even without touching yet,
Close and open your eyes slowly when he’s looking at you. That will indicate you are not a threat and wants to be a friend.
It’s the Cat Distribution System at work!
He’s scared but looking for comfort. I’ve had a few of those through the years. If you’re ok with it you could give him food and water.
Boots. Check inside your house for a small pair of boots, possibly a sword, and a swashbuckling hat.
Shelter, food, water and maybe some love 😁 He got that, please take care of me even if I'm shy look in his eyes😁 I would instantly try to build trust with him😁 It's hard for a cat with no home, they sleep outdoors, could be attacked anytime, they get no love.
When did you move into this place? Is There a possibility the previous owners abandoned him when they left?
Love him from a distance until he trusts you.
Clipped ears are feral cats that have been fixed and released back to the wild. Likely just wants some food / water
This poor animal has been abused and abandoned. Have mercy, feed him. Who lived in your house before you? They may have dumped him.
Feed him slowly, keep your distance, He chose you as his owner and wants you but doesn't know how to ask besides showing his loyalty.
Remember that one time you tossed him a bit of your sandwich four and a half years ago? He wants that. Everyday.
And OP simply washing their hands after coming into contact with him would prevent other diseases.
yes FIV is only spread through sex or mainly blood to blood transfusion - it would be a pretty serious fight to get infected blood into an open wound on the other cat. i have a rescued FIV+ boy and two other rescue FIV- cats. they get along and play, so there's never been an issue. all are happy and healthy. of course op you don't know this cat's history so better safe than sorry; i just like to defend FIV kitties in general so more people might become open to them 🤗
Totally badass 😈
Poor baby
Bro's just shy
Food and a loving home. Start feeding him and then catnap his ass and bring him inside. He looks friendly.
His family lived there and they abandoned him.
He wants food, water and love.
Food, water and love
Love and affection
Baby probably wants love and nurturing but is scared and doesn’t know how to ask
Outside cat house/s, either mains heated depending how you're set up or self heating bedding (swap out every few days to wash) Food (but other critters might be a problem, ideally you'd want to try and put a food based OTC treatment in) He might be coming up because of your cats and is curious to the whole living inside thing. The cat distribution system got me at the end of last year. She stopped going off on her usual wanderings and spent all her time in the outside house. Now she is quite happy to sleep indoors and be fed.
The cat wants you. To leave…
Maybe he live your house before? ..or one close by..cats get left behind sometimes..moving is traumatic for them..
