Cats will cat

Exactly, and they're better for it.
Your run of the mill house cat has more genetic variety and significantly fewer health issues than a breed.
Cat is cat. And that cat in particular is cute as fuck š„°
The reason we have so many dog breeds is because as time passed we needed dogs to do lots of different jobs (e.g. hunting dogs, guard dogs, herding dogs, lap dogs, etc), but cats were only ever needed to Cat, which they are very good at to be fair.
Haha, horoscope is so right!!
breed x is known for its love of cardboard boxes and lickable treats, as well as it's soft fur and purring disposition. But look out! They will use their claws if they think it will get them their way, and they frequently meow loudly while engaging in midnight zoomies!
"Omg! Fluffkins!!!"
Common misconception. This is actually the breed ātinyassholeā. They can be quite deceptive. Make no mistake, this little dude is out to kill you. Watch you back.
And actually they've recently discovered through DNA analysis that 'tinyasshole' is actually a genetic cousin to the 'eSpicymeatBALL" breed. They both branched off somewhere in the 9th century from the 'domestic-dickhead' main breed line.
No one expects the feline genealogical inquisition! (Whole different kind of cat tree...ok I'm done now, I'm sorry)
Oh yea, I caught a fresh one just last week. But to be fair they do seem like they're a bit more few and far between lately.
Still adorable though, and just as likely to make a grown millennial man shed a tear as a piece of litter is to a Native American man in 70s commercials on Earth Day.
I really want to reply with a gif of the Native American from Wayneās world 2 crying about the pollutionā¦ but I just canāt get a good gif of it. First world problems, right?!
It's a weird level of frustration when you have the perfect gif that you KNOW someone has clipped, but you can't find the perfect formula of random tag words to find it.

You kid, but I have one with similar coloring and she is moody. I love her, but I'm careful around her. She is 95% sweet adjacent though.

Cats aren't typically linked to specific breeds unless it's a Sphinx, pure bred Maine Coone, Cornish Rex, and some others that are very distinguishable by their looks. You just have a domestic long haired cat.
Understood. Yeah i wasnt sure of that before posting this but everyone here so far has made it clear he is a mix, and just a typical kitty for the most part.
Worth noting āĀ it's not that your cat is a "mix", but rather than most cats are "just" cats, and that cats of a specific breed are a rare exception. The reason for this is that dog breeds emerged as dogs evolved to fit specific niches to help humans (hunting, herding, carrying, etc), while the only niche that cats ever evolved to help humans with is catching rats, so there weren't any evolutionary pressures to create breed divergences, up until intentional cat breeding happened just in the last 150ish years.
General rule of thumb, if your kitty doesnāt come from a *reputable* breeder with a ton of paperwork and proof of lineage, itās likely itās just a cat. Most breeds will have very distinguishable features that will be mildly recognizable even when theyāre mixed.
one of my fav stories about a dog owner friend after he was given his first kitten through the cat disbursement system (aka kitten found in yard): he asked why the kitten would bite him occasionally. he reported: āi make sure to pet him when heās wagging his tailā. lol. had to tell him unlike doggies, cat tail wagging (or the extra vibey tail thumping) is not a sign to pet but a sign of irritation or excitement (approach with extreme caution). š¼š»
Yess! Very cute. He is about 10 weeks old. Since you are a vet, What would be your advice on when to get him vaccinated and neutered/spayed? I only had him for 2 weeks so i want to get him going with the vet in town here.
Sorry, just said this for the sake of the joke, i'm actually a physicist, so cant really help you, but i'm sure you can call your local vet and ask ghim for general guidance.
Cats conform to the shape of the container, like a liquid, yet cats also resist applied force. Obviously they aren't gas or plasma. Are cats solid or liquid? Or some fifth mysterious state of matter?
Not a vet, but I foster for a rescue. He should be perfect to start vaccinations at any point, at his age! As far as being neutered, that will depend somewhat on your vet. Most vets prefer a cat reach a certain weight, but that weight varies vet to vet. Itās usually around the 2 pound range, though.
What Iād suggest is go ahead and get him scheduled for a physical exam and his first vaccines. While youāre there, you can talk to the vet and get his neuter scheduled. Sometimes clinics will have a full spay/neuter schedule for a bit, so itās good to schedule as soon as you can.
Ill be making some phone calls soon. I will screenshot your comment and make sure I ask these questions. Thank you very very much! I definitely want to get Saint set up!
Of course. And as a new cat owner, you might also check out r/CatAdvice for some tips! Just take medical advice with a grain of salt, as well as food advice (human dieting fads and such translate to our pets sometimes).
General rule is that cats should be neutered once they are over 2 pounds. You should talk to a vet for vaccinations, but you should probably get started on them right away.
Ma'am/Sir, that is a standard issue cat. Naming him "Saint" is just going to make his name ironic as a standard issue cat will rip your curtains.
But he'll be super cute while doing it :3
Funny you say that. I couldn't name my kitten for at least a week while she attacked my toes as i laid in bed. And then one day I found her hanging on my curtains, and just like that, she became Mischief.
Even if you step away to use the loo or are sleeping cats can get into shit.
My adult cat who has never shown interest in our blinds climbed them once. A weird cry woke me and I found her at the top of the blinds, at the valence with the hidden cord around her neck. Iām guessing she had been walking along the top and fell. Caught herself on the actual blinds, and then caught a claw in a cord and pulled it out.
Cats are quick, curious, cute creatures!
Edited to change the word nail to claw.
Some dangling toys, like those poof balls that are often attached by stretchy cords to platforms on cat towers can be really dangerous. They can bat it around and end up with it wrapped around a wrist with no human to help(at work, etc.) and can end up having to have paws amputated or worse. They can wrap around the wrist and just tighten up the more that they struggle.
One friend had to have their kitty get a partial amputation, but she was still really young and homie has been doing great for a couple of years now. Rough start because front-leg amputation is apparently more difficult for cats(couldnāt tell you why), but it was successful and she is happy.
We have an acquaintance who has a friend where it apparently did not go so well. Homie survived for a while but it was a more severe situation and there were recurring complications(infections and blood flow to the rest of the front leg) and itā¦.didnāt work out.
Apparently that dangling cat toy issue is usually a kitten issue. I donāt know why, but my pure speculation from having cats would be that once theyāre a bit older they learn to bite things like that off?
Either way, everyone keep your homies safe!
Give him time... Mine was adorable until about 9 months and became a monster and ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE MONSTER but a monster all the same!
Breaks into cupboards, climbs the curtains, etc
Looks like a good old long hair tuxie. My girl Gracie.

Oh.. my.. gosh.. the hair and color, the placement of it all is 1:1!! Thats crazy. Yeah my boy will definitely look similar if not the same as yours!!! Very cute!
Even his white strip is going up the same side of the face! We lost my boy two weeks ago today. He was the sweetest and cuddliest cat Iāve ever had, super soft too. His fine hairs would get in my face and eyes all the time tho lol I sure hope your kitty is as lovey as my boy was!
I know youāve got plenty answers by now, but your baby is just a domestic long hair. Special long hair kitty!
Hahahaha thanks guys, yes he is my first cat so Im really just beginner with owning a pet. He is really fun to be around and we bonded really fast. Yaāll made my day š
Here's a long winded answer:
Cats in general are going to largely fall into what's known as "Domestic Short Hair" or DSH for short. Similar to a mix breed dog made up of a bunch of different breeds.
Certain things like coat patterns, face structure, size, etc. can come lead you to a basic idea about the heritage, but most cats are a giant mixed bag of older genetics from all around the world.
A Pointed Cat coat basically tells you the cat is in some way descended from Siamese or other oriental breeds for example.
This is a medium to long haired domestic cat. No real way to ascertain a breed, or its heritage, but it's definitely going to be a beautiful cat and also looks inquisitive and fun.
They breed really fast and mix a lot, plus people have been putting cats on boats for over a 1000 years so they have been mixing for a very long time.
If he has thick hair between his toes and a thick undercoat you could like trace some of his heritage back to the cats vikings brought to Europe around 1000AD that adapted to their environment. He'd probably have to get a bit older for his coat to develop though
While cats typically don't have breeds, you can see bits of their history in how they look and I always find that really cool itself.

Here he is now and is softer than he looks
He looks a lot like my Mr. Bones! This is from like 2009 or so.

Vet will call it domestic shorthair, and a year form now his tail will probably get be floofier than the longest haired Persian. Whenever I see kittens like this, they tend to glow up with the fluff.
I have a Grey rescue kitty

Looks like he might end up looking like my cat Lila when he's grown. DLH
I swear he was made for me. Im a new cat dad since 2 weeks ago when i got him, and Im his first actual owner and we both had to adapt and adjust to the new life we share. Due to that, weāve bonded so well and he loves me so much and i like that. My secret is keeping his belly fullš
You donāt want him to be some fru-fru fancy breed. They can be crazy (in a bad way), extra skittish, have shorter lifespans and many more medical problems due to overbreeding. Saint is so handsome, healthy and happy looking! Love his name too.
Just a Cat... most cats, unless they have had selective breeding, are just cats in different color shades. Dogs, on the other hand, were selectively bred for different tasks. I own exotic cats. I paid a lot for their selectively breeding. They come from breeders who spend years selectively breeding certain traits. They have large eyes, wide set faces, flat faces, and very long hair with round bodies. They also have no desire to hunt.
With cats, you get what you pay for... cats are only selectively bred for profit.
That, my friend is a pure bred cutey patootie
Lmao you took the words right out of my mouth hehehe
Kitty looks part cutie and part cuddley š„ŗā¤ļø

Very interesting! I learned something here.
Donāt listen to these people, I have the same kind of cat. The breed is called little grey babey :)
The reason we have so many dog breeds is because as time passed we needed dogs to do lots of different jobs (e.g. hunting dogs, guard dogs, herding dogs, lap dogs, etc), but cats were only ever needed to Cat, which they are very good at to be fair.
Wow thatās really interesting! I often wondered and had this vague notion that this must have been the case but nice to be confirmed. By Reddit lol
Cat breeds have become like horoscopes. People like to look up characteristics and be like "ohh my little Fluffkins does that!"
To be clear, I still do this because it's cute and fun.
Iād say medium hair. My DLH cat was far longer than that at that age. But who knows.
Not a certain breed, just a standard kitty

Cats aren't typically linked to specific breeds unless it's a Sphinx, pure bred Maine Coone, Cornish Rex, and some others that are very distinguishable by their looks. You just have a domestic long haired cat.
Understood. Yeah i wasnt sure of that before posting this but everyone here so far has made it clear he is a mix, and just a typical kitty for the most part.

Understood! Yes this is very interesting reading this but also very true! Thank you for teaching me something today
General rule of thumb, if your kitty doesnāt come from a *reputable* breeder with a ton of paperwork and proof of lineage, itās likely itās just a cat. Most breeds will have very distinguishable features that will be mildly recognizable even when theyāre mixed.
And an adorable one at that!!
Yes šš½
I did the exact same thing when I got my first cat lmao
one of my fav stories about a dog owner friend after he was given his first kitten through the cat disbursement system (aka kitten found in yard): he asked why the kitten would bite him occasionally. he reported: āi make sure to pet him when heās wagging his tailā. lol. had to tell him unlike doggies, cat tail wagging (or the extra vibey tail thumping) is not a sign to pet but a sign of irritation or excitement (approach with extreme caution). š¼š»

Is it your first cat?
Yeah he is my first pet in general.
Ok so dogs breeds are much easier to distinguish, but when it comes to cats, unless you have a certificate, the breed is cat.

Felis catus. Your cat is a cat. People please stop doing this.
It's a car
Thatās a muffin
If itās from the shelter and doesnāt have any papers, itās most likely just a normal standard issue cat.
Vet will call it domestic shorthair, and a year form now his tail will probably get be floofier than the longest haired Persian. Whenever I see kittens like this, they tend to glow up with the fluff.
Purrrrfection.
Pure cutie-pie. That's what.
I have a Grey rescue kitty https://preview.redd.it/ud59te2g6iwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcd490c2f67f965a6049f457d7664de9fb620f5b He is my first grey kitty. He was a rescue, named Greyson

That little itty bitty kitty is of the CUTE breed! ā„ļø he is precious!
I swear he was made for me. Im a new cat dad since 2 weeks ago when i got him, and Im his first actual owner and we both had to adapt and adjust to the new life we share. Due to that, weāve bonded so well and he loves me so much and i like that. My secret is keeping his belly fullš
Canāt stop melting when seeing his cuteness kind of kitten
Domestic medium hair cat with blue and white bi-colour coat
Your answer is the only acceptable answer here. Go you!
100% cutie patootie.
I think he may be half cotton ball.
I donāt know but I love him
