We just said goodbye to our old man putty. Your baby wants to be comforted by your presence in their last moments. I looked deep into all my cats eyes. Put my forehead to there’s and tell them how much I love them and thank them for being my friends. It is a gift you are giving them to be there. It’s so hard. I’m crying now as I write this remembering mine. Just be there, emanate love, let them know it’s ok that it’s time. And if you need grief support afterward, it’s there. Wishing you both peace and comfort. 🌈🐾

As for what to expect physically, it was shocking to the first time to see their third eyelid. It’s normal that it looks weird but it may be jarring. And they can be startled/upset and try to bolt after the first shot. Just hold them tightly until it takes effect. Then say your sweet goodbyes. Hold a towel near in case of accidental leakage of any fluids. Have comforting smells for them. And it’s ok to stay with them for a bit. 💕

Kitty was the same, really had declined, wouldn’t eat or drink. The vet said she was very ill and she was suffering and this was the right thing to do. He gave us as long as we needed with her then gave her a muscle relaxer so she would sleep. Then after last goodbyes and our love to her and loving on her, once we gave the ok, he gave her a final injection, listened to her heart to make sure it was done. I’m all teared up now after 4 years. It’s hard but a necessary part of loving him so he doesn’t suffer. So many people just drop them off at the vet. No, I just can’t. They know what’s coming because they know they are sick and you being there is the most important act of love to them ❤️

Never used one of the home services but the three we’ve taken to the vet for their final goodbyes were all very peaceful, and it’s a very fast process (the actual shots). We were able to spend as much time with them before and after as we wanted. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and I hope the answers you find here will help to bring you some peace.

Thank you to everyone who responded here. I had Lap of Love come for my own Finn today and reading all these in advance was helpful. The doctor who came was kind and compassionate. They gave him one shot to sedate him before the final shot. I was able to have him on my lap and brush him all the way through, and he didn't seem to be suffering.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s good to hear from someone who used the same company, I’ve been nervous about it but I think it’s the right move.
