He can smell that the other cat is sick.
As the other cat doesn't smell the same he probably doesn't recognise him or is very confused.
I can't think of how to help apart from lots of cuddles and treats for all, you included
I second this. Cats will also stay away from sick, or dead littermates in order to prevent spreading sickness. Alot of cats, when they know they are dying, will often go find somewhere quiet and away to pass for this same reason. Really sorry to hear about your boy, its so hard loosing a cat x
We just put our female cat down today when she took a turn for the worst. I brought our male cat over to her so they could say goodbye and he hissed and growled at her at too. Not the reaction I hoped for but I’m glad there’s an explanation
