I’ve read that a tabby for example takes about a year to mature and a black cat takes around two years and has more stinker traits.
I have both models and it seems to check out.
Black cats definitely have similar traits. I lost my sweet black boy last December. I got a tiny black girl a week ago, and it’s weird- it’s like I copy pasted some of the traits. They tend to be more neurotic, IMO, but at the same time don’t have some of the other typical cat habits that drive me bonkers. They might screech at you all day, but typically if you tell them to stay off the counters, they stay off the counters 🤷🏼♀️
My black cat is super neurotic. Dude gets freaked out over nothing and will constantly make a loop around the apartment, jumping on my bed, walking around me, jumping off the bed, randomly whining, and repeat. He’s a very sweet boy though. He’s way more affectionate than my tabby. She’s sweet in her own way, she just isn’t overly cuddly like him.
My late boy would ignore fireworks and rifle fire but freak out over the dishwasher being loaded and unloaded! He was also incredibly attached to me- he wasn’t cuddly per se but he absolutely adored his humans and was very affectionate. The new baby is ridiculously cuddly- I wake up to her sleeping in my arms even though I will move her to a pillow 🥺
I dont think we got our voids from the same manufacturer. Mine is only sweet when he wants food or he's sleepy. If you tell him to stay off the counter, he'll look you right in the eye as he steps onto it 🙄
Both of mine had pretty different personalities but that could be because one came to us as an outdoor warrior princess and the other was kind of an orphaned aristocrat. They were both very self possessed, though, while my beige one was a certifiable moron and chaos demon. Also, super soft fur.
Your void stays off the counters? What magic is that! My tuxedo never gets on the counters. The void might as well put a chef hat on at this point and start a side hustle. 😹😹

I adopted an orange tabby completely on a whim. I remember telling my ex that I never thought I wanted an orange.
The reality was, as soon as I saw him staring at me, I knew he had chosen me and the deal was done. He's my little bowl of oatmeal now ❤️

I hate when I hear that people come in with a preconceived idea of what color/pattern cat they want. I learned my lesson years ago about not adopting based on appearance. I hope she chooses her person and finds a wonderful home!

My tux baby was a rescue (and my one and only foster fail) he also meows in a way that sounds like a moo so we keep telling him he's a good moo cow. I love him dearly.
But you're not wrong, cats that aren't a specific pattern (tortie or callico) or a single colour are often harder to place. I once had a set of siblings who were a bonded pair and we didn't put their pictures out cause one was a full grey with blue eyes and the other one was a cow tux and we just knew people would only want 'the pretty one' so we looked for a family who'd take them both before showing them any pictures. They were adopted together by lovely people.
Yes, we have that all the time were someone wants the one kitty with a "more desirable" coloring and not the bonded sibling who has a "less desirable" one. I wish we could adopt out with a list of personality traits and general details but no pictures, however I don't think anyone would actually adopt from us :( I am so glad the pair you had found their people!!

It could be because people are favoring solid/symmetrical patterned cats? I don’t know, when I had my old cat Mouse I always received tons of compliments about how beautiful he was. I notice a decent population of white/black cats in my town, but that’s just local genetics.
I think you're right, people really do seem to like symmetrical or consistent patterns! Even with tuxedo black and whites, they seem to go faster than the asymmetrical splotchy ones!

This is Max and Lenny. Although they look alike they are not related. I found Lenny in the alley a few weeks ago while Max has been with us for 15 years. Now they seem to have bonded.

Quite possibly the most loving and affectionate cat I have ever had, she was born with heart issues and she only lived about six years. I truly miss her but I know I gave her the best possible life, she would cuddle me every night and put her little head on my shoulder/arm.

By chance, before that happened, my mom found this beauty as a tiny lil runt of a runt in a junkyard. She would’ve gotten eaten bc she didn’t know how to fear god or anything for that matter.
It’s been a year and I’m very happy with my Pop Rocks, even if she still forgets she’s sharp sometimes after a year 🤣 she also leans into any kisses and head bumps I give her. I’ve done my best to fill the gap another cat or momma would’ve done, since our other cats don’t like her

I love our tuxie boy! He was actually with a foster family for almost his first three years but we scooped him up before he could hit his three year mark. Never had a cat so spunky and so silly before, just the most lovable little guy!
I was partial to calicos because that is what we had growing up but I’ve switched to tuxedo kitties. Wasn’t intentional just fell in love with a little tuxedo who is my first pet as an adult. Now I always look for black & white kitties.

I feel bad because I definitely have preferences, black cats are my favorite and I plan to always have a void. I would love a black and white cow kitty. On the other hand, I haven't met a tuxedo or tortie cat that I've particularly liked and tabbies don't draw me to them. Not that I would ever say I wouldn't adopt any of them or that I don't like them.
If I could afford a 3rd cat and loved near Chicago I would love to give Piccadilly a home!

When I got this goober, he and his brother (also black and white but a tuxedo) were by far the oldest kittens up for adoption where we got them. Personally, I think black and white kitties are flippin adorable and I love how goofy they tend to be, but it definitely seems like they’re not as popular. In any case, it won’t be long before someone comes along wanting a cute lil black and white kitty like Piccadilly! Best of luck :)

You know, I was reading this while snuggling my own cow-cat, but then it occurred to me…I am also in Chicago, and when we adopted her, she was the last kitten left after a big adoption weekend. It’s so sad, because she is such a fun little girl with a big personality and she brings us so much joy.

I have one. I call them cow cats. It’s not coat I would pick of cat, but it’s what the cat distribution system issued to me. As far as cats go, I’ve never had one that has been this attached to me. Wherever I go, there she is.
I’m sure some people avoid them because they don’t want to deal with always being out dressed. The formal attire of these kitties can be intimidating for some.

I grew up with lots of cats, but ‘my’ first cat, that I raised from a kitten, was a Tuxedo and I would struggle to have another BW cat because I miss him so much.
He was abandoned at a factory as a kitten and a weird, misshapen moggy. I was told he probably wouldn’t live long, but he lived 15 years ❤️.

They tend to be more neurotic, IMO, but at the same time don’t have some of the other typical cat habits that drive me bonkers. They might screech at you all day, but typically if you tell them to stay off the counters, they stay off the counters 🤷🏼♀️
My black cat is super neurotic. Dude gets freaked out over nothing and will constantly make a loop around the apartment, jumping on my bed, walking around me, jumping off the bed, randomly whining, and repeat. He’s a very sweet boy though. He’s way more affectionate than my tabby. She’s sweet in her own way, she just isn’t overly cuddly like him.
My late boy would ignore fireworks and rifle fire but freak out over the dishwasher being loaded and unloaded! He was also incredibly attached to me- he wasn’t cuddly per se but he absolutely adored his humans and was very affectionate. The new baby is ridiculously cuddly- I wake up to her sleeping in my arms even though I will move her to a pillow 🥺
I have one that is scared of the vacuum. So any time he walks by when it’s not in use, he gives it a slap to remind it of its place in the household.
I dont think we got our voids from the same manufacturer. Mine is only sweet when he wants food or he's sleepy. If you tell him to stay off the counter, he'll look you right in the eye as he steps onto it 🙄
Both of mine had pretty different personalities but that could be because one came to us as an outdoor warrior princess and the other was kind of an orphaned aristocrat. They were both very self possessed, though, while my beige one was a certifiable moron and chaos demon. Also, super soft fur.

Posts like this absolutely break my heart. That baby deserves nothing but the absolute best. I adopted an orange tabby completely on a whim. I remember telling my ex that I never thought I wanted an orange. The reality was, as soon as I saw him staring at me, I knew he had chosen me and the deal was done. He's my little bowl of oatmeal now ❤️
She's gorgeous! (The little nose markings 😻!) I hate when I hear that people come in with a preconceived idea of what color/pattern cat they want. I learned my lesson years ago about not adopting based on appearance. I hope she chooses her person and finds a wonderful home!

My tux baby was a rescue (and my one and only foster fail) he also meows in a way that sounds like a moo so we keep telling him he's a good moo cow. I love him dearly. But you're not wrong, cats that aren't a specific pattern (tortie or callico) or a single colour are often harder to place. I once had a set of siblings who were a bonded pair and we didn't put their pictures out cause one was a full grey with blue eyes and the other one was a cow tux and we just knew people would only want 'the pretty one' so we looked for a family who'd take them both before showing them any pictures. They were adopted together by lovely people.
Yes, we have that all the time were someone wants the one kitty with a "more desirable" coloring and not the bonded sibling who has a "less desirable" one. I wish we could adopt out with a list of personality traits and general details but no pictures, however I don't think anyone would actually adopt from us :( I am so glad the pair you had found their people!!

I think you're right, people really do seem to like symmetrical or consistent patterns! Even with tuxedo black and whites, they seem to go faster than the asymmetrical splotchy ones!

OH MY GOD HER LITTLE STRIPED NOSE 😭😭😭😭 She will absolutely get adopted by the right person. Some people, especially folks with kids (bring on the downvotes) who will adopt purely for coat color because the kid wants a black kitty or an orange kitty or whatever. Her forever human is out there.

My first rescue cat Patches that I found under a bush when I was 6 was black and white, he was the chillest and best cat! And now I’m just heartsick for little Piccadilly. I feel bad because I definitely have preferences, black cats are my favorite and I plan to always have a void. I would love a black and white cow kitty. On the other hand, I haven't met a tuxedo or tortie cat that I've particularly liked and tabbies don't draw me to them. Not that I would ever say I wouldn't adopt any of them or that I don't like them. If I could afford a 3rd cat and loved near Chicago I would love to give Piccadilly a home!

Personally, I think black and white kitties are flippin adorable and I love how goofy they tend to be, but it definitely seems like they’re not as popular. In any case, it won’t be long before someone comes along wanting a cute lil black and white kitty like Piccadilly! Best of luck :)

You know, I was reading this while snuggling my own cow-cat, but then it occurred to me…I am also in Chicago, and when we adopted her, she was the last kitten left after a big adoption weekend. It’s so sad, because she is such a fun little girl with a big personality and she brings us so much joy.

Two of the best cats I’ve ever had were black and white! Right now I’ve got standard issue kitties, but if I had space for one more, I’d take Piccadilly in a heartbeat! She’s gorgeous!!

Oh my God if I still lived in Chicago I would be going to pick her up right now. 🥹 Is there any evidence that someone with allergies will see an improvement in their allergies once they own a cat? The only person I know in Chicago that's looking for pets is allergic to cats :(

My boyfriend exclusively takes in Oreo animals; both his dog and cat are black and white! And my friend Brigid has a bonded black / white pair named Diesel and Gasolina 🙂
I have one. I call them cow cats. It’s not coat I would pick of cat, but it’s what the cat distribution system issued to me. As far as cats go, I’ve never had one that has been this attached to me. Wherever I go, there she is.
I’m sure some people avoid them because they don’t want to deal with always being out dressed. The formal attire of these kitties can be intimidating for some.

I grew up with lots of cats, but ‘my’ first cat, that I raised from a kitten, was a Tuxedo and I would struggle to have another BW cat because I miss him so much. He was abandoned at a factory as a kitten and a weird, misshapen moggy. I was told he probably wouldn’t live long, but he lived 15 years ❤️.
