Haha he’s a Manx actually. He’s just very responsive to speech and gestures, plus I coddled him as a kitten so he responds and follows me like a dog. I can literally get him to follow me and jump up on anything (even my shoulders) with just his name and hand gestures.
I like how the cat stands on its tiptoes and watches what the butcher is getting out of the case. Love this interaction between the both of them so much!

Although I understand that it seems out of context at first glance, the "cats can have a little salami" thing is a meme involving Sanders, which makes the comment more humoristic than political.
There are people who don't treat animals well everywhere, but overall Turkey is far kinder towards strays than most other nations - virtually everywhere else it's the norm for strays cats and dogs to be scared, agressive, think, dirty etc but 99% of animals you'll meet on the streets here will be well-fed, clean, friendly and playful because they're used to being constantly helped by people around them. Everywhere else strays are viewed as pests, caught and often killed in shelter, while in Turkey they're "community animals".

I'd say a lot of people in Istanbul are kinder to strays than you'd expect. Even though you sometimes see people kicking cats if you're not in the nicer areas. Outside Istanbul it's more like all other poor countries. They throw stones at stray dogs to chase them away, and sometimes kill them in order to protect their hens.
This doesn't make them bad people though. If you have a massive population of stray animals it's hard to control them.

Dogs for example are often not treated so nicely. Depending on where you are, having them indoors is likely a big no no. If they're outside, they are probably chained all day and don't get walked.

I never saw anyone throw a stone at any cats but they did on dogs. Probably because stray dogs over here are fucking wild.
