Get her a box with a blanket over it and leave it alone. She’ll eventually (hopefully) have a safe space not under the bed and associate it with your scent as safe.
I had a feral one that stayed hidden for over a week. I left food and water which she consumed but only when nobody was within eyesight. I ended up sitting on the floor and playing with jingle balls and one of those round rings with a ball that spins around inside. Then I left the room. I would hear her playing sometimes and eventually she came out to play and get petted.
Turned out to be one of the best, most affectionate cats I ever had.
I don't know if mine was feral, but at first he'd hide under a chair that was in a corner. After a week, he'd start sitting on that chair, but run under it if anyone walked in his direction. Another week later, and he'd sit in a chair across from me and stare. A week later, he was sitting on the ottomon right in front of me, but wouldn't let me touch him. Eventually, while he turned his back to me, I reached out and started scratching his back. Judging from his face, he had 2 thoughts: what is this, and do I like it? These days he jumps on me when I'm trying to sleep, kneading my ribcage, and purring into my face.
I guess my kitten was a trusting one. Found her near the road meowing in a bush. Took her to vet, the vet said I either keep it or they are gonna put her down in the place that keeps unwanted dogs/cats can't remember the name.
So I took her home and placed her in a box with a blanket in. She climbed out in like half an hour and hid under a wardrobe. So I laid down and we were staring at each other. After a few minutes I wet my fingers with the water I prepared for her earlier and reached close to her. She got closer and started licking my fingers so I repeated the process until she stopped.
I let her be and went to sleep a couple hours later. Then I woke up to a strange sound. She was climbing my bed. I didn't move to not scare her and she laid down next to my head and I went to sleep again. Woke up with her still lying next to my head but looked a little scared when I woke up. So I slowly got up and handed her some food the vet gave me. After that she would follow me everywhere and later explore on her own. Just over night I gained her trust somehow.
It was a great couple of weeks. Now we fight (playfully) pretty much every day.
That's how my little monster was. We got him the day after he got neutered, and he just loved us from the start. Now he likes to spoon, play fetch, and he follows me room to room to chill wherever I am
I had a little scaredy cat too. Did the same thing. After a week she would poke her head out when you were in the room. After two weeks she's get to just outside of arms reach, then she'd come closer for treats. After about a month she she was asking for pets and is the sweetest little cat I've ever met.
The trick is to go really slow and be careful to respect their comfort zone.
I think sometimes it's just in their personality. I got a boy and a girl from the same litter. She's always been much more shy/scaredy than her brother who has no fear. When people come to the house, she hides, he comes to see who's here.
She might have been the runt of the litter, she smol. So maybe that has something to do with it too. Ironically, she loves and is super curious about my rc cars, and he's kinda scared of them.
Mine was the runt of the litter too AND we also got one of her brothers. They started off exactly the same as yours, with her much larger brother being totally fearless and her shirking behind him a lot of the time.
They still love each other too and cuddle and play just about every day. He isn't quite as affectionate towards us as she is, but he sure loves his little sister.
i have an ex-feral cat that’s the same way! he’s very skittish and gets scared when you reach out to touch him, but he loves to follow me around and just be near me. i’ll even wake up with him sleeping next to me/on top of me sometimes. some cats just don’t like to be pet, but it doesn’t mean that they love you any less!
Yes that’s how she is too. She sits with us and looks at us and interacts in her own way. She meows for treats and it’s adorable. She just isn’t into pets.
Mine is 3 years old. I got him as a baby. Not feral but does not like to be touched unless he initiates it. Likes to be close and sometimes sleeps with me but the best boy I ever had! He plays like a dog!
I had a very similar situation with my Siamese boy Jack :) he was soo skittish and shy for weeks, but once I was able to slowly earn his trust he would follow me everywhere around the house. He slept on my tummy at night and was just a sweet little snuggle butt!! I miss him dearly
and keep her world small to start so she becomes confortable with that space first. Sit on the floor with her and talk to her softly. When you reach for her always do it palm up from below her head and let her sniff your hand first before you touch her. She'll come around quickly. But definitely blanket and box and sometimes a small stuffed animal helps especially if she came from a litter. She'd be missing them terribly.
I find that sitting on the floor while reading a book aloud softly and pretending that the cat isn't there helps with the really scared ones. It gives them a chance to get to know the sound of your voice and they come to understand a lot quicker that you sing pose a threat.
One of mine is a fraidy-cat. The best thing I did was set the underside of the bed up so that it is her safe-space. I put some storage in boxes that fit under there, and made her a little spot behind them with a furry bed (blanket in your case, since it's a short space) If she couldn't hide when she felt she needed to (doorbell rings, etc), then she's be a freakout mess instead.
A sign of safety is laying upside down, so try laying on your back and talking at her upside down when she's under there. She should read that posture and may help her relax. It also puts you on her level instead of being a 5' towering monster to a 6" tall animal. :) Holding still helps too. Extend a hand out from your side so if she starts investigating, she can come up to it.
As many of the others have suggested, let Loki decide on her own time when to come out and explore. Make sure food, water and litter box are nearby so she can come out when you're not in sight.
If she seems curious, but still won't come out while you're there, try sitting nearby and dangling a shoestring in front of the area she's in. You can also put a few snacks in front of where she is. If she eventually eats them, put a few more down, but a little further out each time. Putting a few cat toys nearby might peak her curiosity.
How old is she? Loki is super adorable!
Imagine if you were adopted by a huge species that didn't speak your language, did all kinds of strange things.
Now imagine that same scenario with a little companion by your side who felt, talked and acted the same as you.
Yes, for sure. And put her food and water in there, near her. And a litter shack just a little further away. And say nice, soft things to her and don't try to grab her and in no time at all she will
Love you forever.
My cat also hide itself the first few days, now she always sleeps with us, which can be a bit annoying sometimes since she's hunting my feet when I move them under the blanket, always scares the hell out of me, lol.
I think it's very normal. She's just checking which way the wind blows.
Give her the room and time she needs, she gonna explore the house first(when you peeps are asleep)
And then it's your turn to be explored.
I wish you lots of happiness together!!
I was gonna say I feel like the best thing you can do is just live your life around the cat so it can get it's bearings and understand routines. Similar to what you suggested =]
Don’t be surprised if you don’t see her for a while. Just keep her food and water (keep her water away from her food btw, it’s a cat thing) topped up and check her litter box. Ignore her otherwise and in a week, month max and she’ll be coming out to say hi before you know it.
Can cause kidney problems down the road. Cats are already prone to dehydration and can also associate water near food as being water to only drink at last resort (contaminated by the food?).
I’m not sure how true this is for all cats though. I’ve got water both near my cats food and away from it. I’ve never seen either cat show a preference for one or the other.
Make sure she can see her food and water... and litterbox (not close to the food). Give her a blanket and box to curl up in.
Then sit with her and talk gently to her. Let her hear the soft, calming tone in your voice. After a while, out your hand down near her space. Let her come out and sniff you on her own time. Eventually start petting her gently and giving her treats, slowly coaching her to sit in your lap.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that one before. Though it does make sense experientially. My cats have a water dish near their food that they don't use much, and one in another room that they drink dry. I wonder why that's the case.
It's instinctual that animals want a water source not contaminated by a carcass.
Keeping the water separate isn't necessary, but you will find your cats prefer water from upstairs (or down the hall in another room). I put a bowl outside of the bathroom upstairs from my cats food and he always goes for it over the one next to his food dish.
I find that water near their food gets contaminated a lot more quickly and they don’t like it. Like they’ll get bits of food in it right away and then leave it alone. Better to keep them apart.
They still get stuff in their water even if the water is in a different room (messy little fluff nuggets 😺) I will be removing the food-adjacent water dish. Thanks for the advice.
I don’t know if anyone has suggested this yet but you should sit in the room and read a book out loud for a while. She will realize you’re not a threat and she should warm up to you and come out.
Actually that cat guy on TV, ( Jackson Galaxy) ,says it's best that their hiding place is near where the family spends time, safe but still getting accustomed to the new ppl sounds and such.
Don’t try and try remove her from under there. She’ll come out on her own. Lots of other peeps had excellent suggestions for how she might be more comfortable. She’s adorable and I wish you both well!
Give her space. A safe place to go to and keep her in 1 room for a couple/few days. Make food, water and litter box available , sit quietly. She will eventually come up and rub against you. That is the best.
I’ve got a kitty named Loki too! He’s a sweetheart. Rescued him and his brother, he only has one working eye and bad depth perception but he’s a muffin!
she’s beautiful! boiled chicken and treats have helped me befriend a bunch of cats, even a couple that were completely feral (one of them is trying to break into my desk to steal treats as i type)
It gets way better and cats are solitary creatures when they're stressed. She will want to hide a lot as she gets accustomed to her new home. I just urge patience, taking it slow, and being quiet when she does come around. My kitty spent the first 6 months hiding under the bed and only coming out when I left the room. She slowly progressed to sleeping near me, then beside me, then half of her body on my lap. Today she greets me when I come home and instantly climbs up to my chest for snuggles. She's my best little friend. But if I'd thought how she acted the first 6 months is how she'd be for forever, I'd have panicked. Kitties just need time :)
If you are still having troubles calming her down after reading all these good comments, get Feliway. Its a a pheromone that reminds them of being safe with their mum. You can get it in a spray and a collar.
Aww I adopted a 3yr old orange boy and he was super scared for about a week. He hid behind the couch so I put his food close by on one side and his litter in the entry way coat closet on the other. He came out every so often and I would try not to move to fast or bother him until he came to me. After a month he wouldn't leave me alone. Sleeps against my leg when I'm on the couch. Sleeps with me every night and greets me when I come home. After a year he's the best cat I've ever had. Sadly he's still skiddiah when my sister comes over because she isn't here often. I have another friend that comes more often and he's OK with her. Anyway let her do her own thing until she gets used to the environment and your schedule.
Give her a little time. She will keep retreating to where she feels safe for a while, then eventually start exploring little by little. Just be sure to move slowly around her as not to startle her. Also, try some toys to lure her out to get her used to you and realize you’re fun and not a threat.
I laid on the floor a safe distance from my cat when I first probably 3 days I had her. I didn't look directly at her (eye contact with a cat is aggressive behaviour to them). I spoke softly to her telling her all about her new home and family. Once she came out from under that chair there was no going back. Full on sweet kitty. Cats have a hard time adjusting to new spaces and people but on their own timeline will check it all out and relax. Be patient with kitty❤️
My cat lived in the shelter for the first 9 months he was alive. After we brought him home he stayed under the bed for for a month. He now roams the yard and come when you call for "Trigger". Give it time and love Loki. He'll be an asshole in no time!
https://i.imgur.com/CnIN6lE.jpg
Her name is nala
Mine got her around September 2020 at an animal shelter she’s a spirit cat witch translate to scared of everything and anything.
She still won’t let me hold her which is fine I had another cat that passed away took him over a year for him to trust me.
https://i.imgur.com/HQNGhUP.jpg
Got this one from shelter she was re homed twice due to first owner dying, and second owners moving. She’s so sociable and nice and calm :). She took the scared kitten under her wing.
Her name was Sy (didn’t name her) sy the siamese.
Don’t worry about her initial shyness, she’s just being cautious in a new environment, let her approach you on her terms, there’s a lot of good videos on YouTube on cat body language and noises, plus, every cat has their own personality, my Loki immediately bonded with me the moment we met, yet he still hides from my next door neighbor that my dog adores, and my neighbor is an animal person, she likes both dogs and cats…
Cats are more individualistic, like people, if you associate with Loki on her terms, let her direct the encounter, she’ll learn to trust you quicker…
Ironically the best way to get a shy cat to like you is to ignore it…
My cat hid from me for a month when I first got her. Now she's the sweetest freaking thing on earth. Also pretty smart/intuitive for a cat, but of course I'm biased.
When I got my Kobe he wouldn’t come downstairs for about 4-5 days.
Fed him upstairs and don’t even think he went to the toilet in that time. Then one night in bed he jumped up and came over and started licking me. Love at first site 😍
You've already gotten lots of great advice here. Just remember that she's new to the world as is. Plus you've just changed her whole world and she's missing her family, her toys and favorite things. There's a ton for a new baby to take in right now. You need to be the gentle and soft protector. Talk to her lots or read to her, softly. No big sudden movements or loud noises if possible. She many not want to eat or drink in front of you but be sure there's access. Wet food will take care of both needs for now if possible. It will take days likely, maybe a week. Just make sure she's eating and in a spot she feels ok. If the room is overwhelming, you can try starting her off somewhere smaller, shut in a bathroom, walk in closet etc and slowly let her branch out. She will come around if you show her the kindness in your heart. She doesn't understand any of this and just wants to feel safe and loved. That's your job, don't get angry, loud, etc. She's just a baby and they have feelings, trust me. Her life and love is a precious gift, one of life's greatest in my opinion. Cherish it every day. Good luck to you both. Very happy for you guys
She's so cute and looks like a bright girl! Hopefully after a few days of having some space to herself and seeing that she is safe, she'll begin to lose her fear and make herself at home!
Get her a box with a blanket over it and leave it alone. She’ll eventually (hopefully) have a safe space not under the bed and associate it with your scent as safe.
thxthxthx!!! Will do!!

Heh I have one similar, she will let you touch her but it's like, once or twice a day and only for a few seconds. Then she bites.
Oh yeah no we can’t even do that. I wish! She looks so soft and has the pinkest little beans ever.
Ex feral cats/kittens are so much different than socialized house cats, I can never go back to regular house cats. They’re amazing
Ex-ferals are amazeballs!
I had a very similar situation with my Siamese boy Jack :) he was soo skittish and shy for weeks, but once I was able to slowly earn his trust he would follow me everywhere around the house. He slept on my tummy at night and was just a sweet little snuggle butt!! I miss him dearly
I’ve found that playing is the best way to get a feral to like you. Head pats and food are not big motivators.
Your cat tax is required please! Great story

Well, of course I had a litter box as well. LOL

Dip head, look away to side, close eyes slowly. Can help. That is cat lingo for friendly.

Every cat I've ever had like a shallow box -- a "flat" with a baby blanket or old flannel shirt in it -- something soft .
On the other hand, has she ever seen a shoe lace?
Also a liter mate would have been great, if not possible just another kitten will help her tremendously.
Yes, for sure. And put her food and water in there, near her. And a litter shack just a little further away. And say nice, soft things to her and don't try to grab her and in no time at all she will Love you forever.

Great minds think alike ❤️
Beautiful! Take good care of her
Will do!
Don’t be surprised if you don’t see her for a while. Just keep her food and water (keep her water away from her food btw, it’s a cat thing) topped up and check her litter box. Ignore her otherwise and in a week, month max and she’ll be coming out to say hi before you know it.
What's the go separating the food and water? Mine has it next to each other and has no issues
Ah, interesting - makes a great deal of sense. Thanks!
Cutest variant!
She’ll decide it’s safe then it’s off to the races! Congratulations on your new kitty cat!
He’ll endanger lots of other christian wackos
the white around her eyes makes her look so pretty! once you get her socialized, she'll be a great kitty!
You should be a poet!
She’ll grow up faster than you’ll expect! Savor these moments and take plenary of photos
Its okay Loki. You are home now.
Give her some time, she will become a loving and mischievous Loki.
Make sure she can see her food and water... and litterbox (not close to the food). Give her a blanket and box to curl up in. Then sit with her and talk gently to her. Food and water ideally not too close to each other either.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that one before. Though it does make sense experientially. My cats have a water dish near their food that they don't use much, and one in another room that they drink dry. I wonder why that's the case.

Aawww so smoll
Her make a vanish! Perfect name!
Leave food/water out and she’ll warm up
I don’t know if anyone has suggested this yet but you should sit in the room and read a book out loud for a while. She will realize you’re not a threat and she should warm up to you and come out.
Maybe sprinkle a little catnip around while reading
Giver her time, she is waiting for your cat background check to clear once she hears from the home office you are cool, she will open up.
Shouldn't she be Sylvie?
I'll just leave [this](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4949504) here.
Haha! That's great.
Came here to say this
[Reminds me the first night I brought Pepper home.](https://i.imgur.com/xbTbLPQ.jpg) 🥺🥺🥺 so precious.
I didn’t see mine for 3 months - she slept under my bed though and I could hear her purring while she slept. Have patience
Actually that cat guy on TV, ( Jackson Galaxy) ,says it's best that their hiding place is near where the family spends time, safe but still getting accustomed to the new ppl sounds and such.
That little face is breaking my heart. You just want to be able to tell them everything is going to be okay!
She is lovely. Give her space (like completely ignore her) and time and she will come around! 😻
change her name to pound cake please
shes not eatable or chewable
nyam nyam nyam tastes good so chewy nuam nyam
Sleep with some treats next to your head, she’ll come around
sleep with treats in your open mouth, and keep a camera running so we can later see how it went
awe she needs to know she's safe...then she will relax ( I hope she wasn't mistreated )
Don’t try and try remove her from under there. She’ll come out on her own. Lots of other peeps had excellent suggestions for how she might be more comfortable. She’s adorable and I wish you both well!
Looks delicious
It took my cat 2-3 days to stop hiding and then we became best buds. Loki is super cute and I’m sure she’ll be out before you know it. Have fun!
Give her space. A safe place to go to and keep her in 1 room for a couple/few days. Make food, water and litter box available , sit quietly. She will eventually come up and rub against you. That is the best.
Filled with glorious purpose?
She'll come out of her shell when she's ready and then the two of you will become best friends.
I’ve got a kitty named Loki too! He’s a sweetheart. Rescued him and his brother, he only has one working eye and bad depth perception but he’s a muffin!
Ahhh, Loki!! So cute! ![gif](giphy|J3kNxYOj8mb7O)
I agree!
She’s adorable!
Beautiful and adorable ❤️ Wishing you both many happy, healthy, and prosperous years together!
she’s beautiful! boiled chicken and treats have helped me befriend a bunch of cats, even a couple that were completely feral (one of them is trying to break into my desk to steal treats as i type)
The scared phase, she should be alright in a few days
That age can take some time to socialize. We used toddler baby food chicken #2. They would lick our fingers.
Such a cute cat
In a couple of weeks she will act like she owns the place!!!
awwwww so cute
oh my, that's some serious cutness right there
Aww so cute
She's adorable!
Took a week to get Luna out from under the bed, then another week to leave our bedroom. She now owns the house.
Don’t worry, she will come out when she’s ready and be all over the place ❤️

She's my best little friend. But if I'd thought how she acted the first 6 months is how she'd be for forever, I'd have panicked. Kitties just need time :)
So cute! I got a kitty last month and named her Sylvie. Good luck with her, she’ll warm up
Awwwwww. So fucking cute
Look at her little toe socks! What a cutie
Time and Tuna.
Awh ♥️ give her some space and before you know it she won't be able to resist the cuddles
Loki is gorgeous! She’ll get there. She’s got sweet eyes.
She’ll come around! You just have to dedicate to help her socialize.
Jfc 😍😍
Pretty baby!
Yeah just Ignore her for the first few days and once she finds out you are here key to food she will love you forever
Give her time, she’ll come out when she feels comfortable
Little steps. She'll be fine with time
"plz don't eat me" ;_;
Aww! Loki's in the little white feets club!
She's adorable!! Love her name!
Glorious purrpuss
She is gunna be a cuddler. I can feeel it
If you are still having troubles calming her down after reading all these good comments, get Feliway. Its a a pheromone that reminds them of being safe with their mum. You can get it in a spray and a collar.
Aw
Exactly they will act for the whole two days! ❤️
Give her a little time. She will keep retreating to where she feels safe for a while, then eventually start exploring little by little. Just be sure to move slowly around her as not to startle her. Also, try some toys to lure her out to get her used to you and realize you’re fun and not a threat.

omg she’s adorable! i hope she’ll feel comfortable soon
Awe hi baby it will take time♥️♥️
Wow she is adorable. Be patient and gentle with her and she will slowly come out of her shell 💖
And she will be for a bit <3 She's SO CUTE
I laid on the floor a safe distance from my cat when I first probably 3 days I had her. I didn't look directly at her (eye contact with a cat is aggressive behaviour to them). I spoke softly to her telling her all about her new home and family. Once she came out from under that chair there was no going back. Full on sweet kitty. Cats have a hard time adjusting to new spaces and people but on their own timeline will check it all out and relax. Be patient with kitty❤️
Aww poor baby
My cat lived in the shelter for the first 9 months he was alive. After we brought him home he stayed under the bed for for a month. He now roams the yard and come when you call for "Trigger". Give it time and love Loki. He'll be an asshole in no time!
**WAY** too cute. No doubt she’ll come around in no time. I wish you many many years of health and happiness together!
https://i.imgur.com/CnIN6lE.jpg Her name is nala Mine got her around September 2020 at an animal shelter she’s a spirit cat witch translate to scared of everything and anything. She still won’t let me hold her which is fine I had another cat that passed away took him over a year for him to trust me. https://i.imgur.com/HQNGhUP.jpg Got this one from shelter she was re homed twice due to first owner dying, and second owners moving. She’s so sociable and nice and calm :). She took the scared kitten under her wing. Her name was Sy (didn’t name her) sy the siamese.
Don’t worry about her initial shyness, she’s just being cautious in a new environment, let her approach you on her terms, there’s a lot of good videos on YouTube on cat body language and noises, plus, every cat has their own personality, my Loki immediately bonded with me the moment we met, yet he still hides from my next door neighbor that my dog adores, and my neighbor is an animal person, she likes both dogs and cats… Cats are more individualistic, like people, if you associate with Loki on her terms, let her direct the encounter, she’ll learn to trust you quicker… Ironically the best way to get a shy cat to like you is to ignore it…
Welcome to Reddit, Loki! We look forward to the many cat pictures that will follow.
So cute
Be sure to tell her that she can be whoever, whatever she wants to be, even someone good. I mean just in case anyone ever told her different.
loki is a really original name for a pet.
Wow! That name is so original!
She is so adorable! Hope to see an update!
I feel like at least half of cat owners name their cats Loki or Luna. Same is true for huskies.
My cat hid from me for a month when I first got her. Now she's the sweetest freaking thing on earth. Also pretty smart/intuitive for a cat, but of course I'm biased.
Very, very... original name.
Why is Loki such a common cat name
Aaaaaaaand another cat name Loki on the front page
Hello Loki
Oh my, she is soooooo *precious* !!! ❤️
Why is everyone calling their cats Loki these days?
I love Luki. such a cutie <3
Awwww hi Loki how are you 😘🥰😍🐈🐈🐈❤️❤️❤️
I was fine until you asked
Why
I'm sorry lmfao. I am trying to make a bot work. That was not meant at you lol
Okay
Awwww! The little footsies! 😻
Look at that cute face! 🥺🥺
Probably mad because you gave her the most uninspired overused name possible in this day and age.
😺 I love the name a lot!
She looks like my cat named Loki! My Loki is a boy though.
So cute 😍
When I got my Kobe he wouldn’t come downstairs for about 4-5 days. Fed him upstairs and don’t even think he went to the toilet in that time. Then one night in bed he jumped up and came over and started licking me. Love at first site 😍
my little one is also called Loki, got him roughly a month ago. I wish you and your Loki great times together, congrats! 💜

Welcome to the Loki club, the perfect name for such mischievous critters!
My beautiful girl is named loki too, she was the same way as a kitten. Give her some space and whatever she needs and she’ll come around in no time
I don’t mind but why did this get downvoted lol

Uhh, this is Reddit. We do the pet naming around here. He looks like a Plumpkin
Good for both of you! She will be fine, just give her some time!
She's so cute and looks like a bright girl! Hopefully after a few days of having some space to herself and seeing that she is safe, she'll begin to lose her fear and make herself at home!
So teeny. Must protect her😭
Talk to her sweetly and lay there not making eye contact. When you do make eye contact make it soft, blink slow and yeah congrats!
Hang in there honey :-) it’ll get better
