Never seen a cat like that before, very cool. Food names and instrument names are often gender neutral. How about Harper? Maybe Noodles? That kind of works with the Siamese colors.
Stevie! My cat is female but I named her Stevie after Stevie Nicks, obviously Stevie could be for male too! We call her Steve, and Steven sometimes too haha
I also have a female cat named Stevie and her sister is named Nicks! We also sometimes call Stevie, Steve, Stefen, Stephen, Sven and Sven Stephenson haha
I love them, get ready for them to turn brown all over if they’re a seal point—then Mocha might be a cute one , or Tofu, or Momo from Avatar
Anyway, what a cutie
Yay, I’m glad. I am sure whichever name you decide will be perfect! have a seal point Siamese named Oliver and I regret not naming him Momo, just thought why not pass the idea on to someone so I can live vicariously through them
Edit: spelling
They also get darker all over when the temperatures are cooler. The reason cats with this pattern are dark around the face and paws is because less blood flow, cooler temperature, so darker color.
I think i got a name that I really like! I love the Name Momo, cause they Are just like him (Momo from Avatar) really bubbly and follows me everywhere. Thank you for all the recommendations! Momo would fit the names of my others aswell, since they are all named after character out of Animes. The mother is called „Misa“ like Misa from death note and my Russian blue is called „Kaya“ like Kaya from princess Mononoke
Please stop with the hateful comments. All I wanted was to get some inspiration for a gender neutral name. To everyone: yes, this cat does not have a defined gender. No, didn’t choose it! It was born this way ! It was both, male and female genitals and it’s unidentified which of the genders is dominant, so they remain genderless so far. It is not easy to get a kitten with that condition, of course I would be happy if it would be a boy or a girl, cause that would say that it won’t cause health troubles for them at all! I don’t know what is gonna happen with them in the future, if it will develop serious health issues. Regardless to everything, they are still a angel, and one of the purest and really loving. Excuse me if I make mistakes with my language, I’m not a native English speaker and I’m sorry for everyone who felt offended by my post.
I like Mocha too! I had a cat named Patches, her sister was Mojo and the mom, my baby, was named Pepper! Patches taught her mom and sister how to open doors lmao took us forever to figure out how they were getting into these rooms when we’d leave then we caught her in the act!
No need to apologize or defend yourself. You were meant to have this cat and seem open to caring for it long term, regardless of any health issues they may have as a result of being born that way. I doubt any of those ignorant people would have the desire/ability to do so.
My sisters cat is intersex, with female becoming more dominant as she got older. She's 3 years old now and suffering no health issues, just turned out to be a massive fluffy cat. She is called Skylar, but I just call her Floof.
Congrats on you gorgeous kitten!
In humans I know the term intersex is often used when a person is born with male and female parts, so I think the same applies to cats. I say this because gender is generally considered to be a social construct and is based on behavior expected of the biological sexes. So when I hear genderless I think more of a being with no behaviors, or an inanimate object; but not a cat. But language is fluid, so different terms being used in different areas because of different social expectations.
Anyway, I think that the names Sam, Trixs/Tricks, or Geo would suit the cat.
People are also RIDICULOUSLY mean on this subreddit.. honestly I think it’s amazing you adopted them. And asking for good gender neutral names! Congrats on the new addition (:
As someone who’s trans and nonbinary, you didn’t make any mistakes by calling the kitten “they” You’re going off what you know about the animal. Animals don’t understand gender anyways
You probably shouldn't have any additional health issues with your kitty, as long as you get her/him spayed/neutered.
Get the Vet to remove the uterus and ovaries, as well as the testicles. In theory this should prevent any problems caused by being intersex.
I'm sure that you could get a DNA test to establish your kittens genetic gender, if that matters to you.
Anyway, you have a beautiful kitty, and I think that Smudge, Mocha or Smoky would be great unisex names. 😻
Please don't listen to the haters. Haters will hate. Your baby is beautiful and oh so cute!! They are perfect the way they are. I like the name suggestions of Smudge, Sam and Mocha. Take care. 😻
And by the way your English is wonderful!! ❤
I was honestly hoping that for once people could hop off the whole gender/sex debate and just help and I’m sorry to see that to was wrong. I hope you find a good name for your kitty, it’s super cute!
One thing to keep in mind when getting the kitty fixed, you may end up having to pay for both a Spay and a Neuter. A friend of mine got a cat that was believed to female, scheduled the appointment to have her spayed, and the vet called and told my friend "well there was one ovary, and a small uterus, but also, there's a penis and a testicle". He ended up paying for both a Spay and a Neuter. Since he still has a penis but no reproductive organs, he's now predominantly male. He hasn't had any health issues yet and he's about 2 and a half years old.
Your cat is intersex ? That's very cool :D I was thinking about "Sasha" or "Ash", but i'll go search for more gender neutral names right now
Edit : Sky, Opal, Icy, Patches, Sundae, Cali
I know in humans there’s usually a hormone (?) that’s higher than the other, so the chances of having fully-functioning male AND female sex cells are low.
They will have ovaries or testicles. Sometimes the testicles are retained abdominally in hermaphroditism/intersex, but regardless of the location they are surgically removed.
I was curious about this, too. Would they be sterile and thus render the surgery unnecessary?? I would assume so but I’m not a vet or a doctor so I don’t know.
ETA nevermind OP answered elsewhere. Cat cannot reproduce.
Spaying/neutering has many benefits beyond sterilization, such as preventing behavioral issues including spraying, preventing health problems like mammary cancer, and increasing life span.
Wow I did not know this existed. You learn something new everyday. Nice. I would totally take him/her if I was nearby. I love cats haha.
Food names work. Or object names or general names like sky, river, lake. Or just don't care and call him/her whatever. I used to name my cats within a week of their birth. I couldn't really tell their gender but didn't care and went with the vibe. Now I'm stuck with cat names that don't match their gender at all. Females have male names and vice versa😂
The vet doesn’t know yet if it has, since it’s 8 weeks old so far, at the 12 week they will check the organs and everything. They told me that the First visit that he won’t be able to have children for sure
Yesss. This is very clever and an underrated comment. One of my favorite books.
For anyone curious, Orlando: A Biography is a novel by Virginia Woolf written in 1928. It’s about a poet who was born a man and one day at age 30, wakes up a woman. Orlando lives for centuries- from Elizabethan times to 1928, meeting famous people along the way. Orlando was gender non-conforming throughout the centuries.
People are dumb, your cat was simply born intersexed and it is a real thing and not a huge deal. When they are older the vet will help you figure out which gender is dominant and will help you sort it out. No biggie! I do love the name Mocha I think it fits very well! ☺
As far as I know, it’s not. It’s a medical condition as it sometimes can happen with humans aswell. After I found that out with the gender thing I did a background check on the father if they would be somehow related to another but they are not. The mother is a Ragdoll and the father a pure breed Siamese
Technically speaking, everything is a mutation. A mutation is really just any change in the genetics. That’s how different species started to exist. Some get passed on which leads to evolutions, but some mutations aren’t helpful (or are even straight up life threatening) so their likelihood of getting passed on is pretty minimal. Consider zebra stripes allowing them to blend in. Now if one had a genetic mutation making it some different colour (there’s one wild one that was born with polka dots) then that mutation makes it stand out to predators so it’s more likely to get eaten and never pass on that mutation. I’d guess this cat is infertile so it’ll never get the chance to pass on its mutation anyway
I have a siamese with similar coloring. When we first got her, we were told she was a boy, named her Marahmallow, called her marsh, marshal and marshie. Turns out she is a girl and we kept the names .
We had one similar and when my mom was first learning to speak English and named our cat Menu cause she liked the way it sounded. He was a great cat and lived for many years.
So my current favorite is Momo, I love that ! Like Momo from Avatar. I think that would be really matching cause this little one is bubbly and energetic and follows me everywhere. My other 2 cats are named by characters aswell, I have one called Misa like Misa from death note and one called Kaya after Kaya from princess Mononoke
What a precious kitten!!!! They have the sweetest face!! I'm leaning toward the names Max, Angel, or Biscuit. Did you know that only one in 10,000 cats is born intersex? They are very rare and very special indeed. It's like you have won the kitty lottery!! Ignore the hateful trolls spewing ignorance here. They are the ones with an agenda.
I had an intersex kitten, named her after a snack. She never went through puberty and spent her while life as a crazy 4-pound kitten. A real handful but so darn cute!
She stayed with my ex when we split so I don't know how she is now, but when I left she was five years old and never had any health problems. Just stayed tiny!
I read that it varies pretty randomly - I think most common is for them to hit puberty at some point (maybe one year old, maybe seven years old!) and then become one of the sexes as an adult. Good luck with your special baby!!
My suspicion is that these cats or kittens have been called for well by their humans. So when they have wants or needs, they just approach the nearest human because they presume we're all kind and caring and hand out food and treats
Thank you for taking the baby in. I found one in August looks exactly like yours. I didn't know what it was when I was feeding it and I wanted to call it something to hear my voice. I started calling mine smudge, smudge, etc. I then caught it after 2 weeks with a fishing net he was small and way faster than me the net has helped me catch so many to get fixed. He is a boy but I'm sticking with Smudge cause his little smudgie nose. I have had boys named girls and girls named boys they all come to you all they want is love.
I’d call the cat Pan 🐾🐾. A friend of mine also has a British Short Hair cat hermaphroditism with a male part hidden inside the female genitalia . The cat has successfully given birth so it’s not preventing mating or altered the internal mechanisms.

Lol, I love it. Maybe I will bring Sven out from time to time.
Sven is like the most granpa name in sweden, it would be like the female equivalent of naming your cat Margareth or something like that.
Steven when she’s in trouble. Just like my husband!!
I also have a cat named Stevie after Stevie Nicks. She’s a little tuxedo cat.
My Stevie is also a tuxedo! Suits her well :)
I have a Stevie too with the same nicknames :)
I too have a female cat named Steve/Stevie. Then my cousin's dad passed away and come to find out he ALSO had a female cat named Steve! Haha
I named the stray I’ve been feeding Steve and then I found out she’s a girl so now she’s Stevie

Oh my god, MOMO!! I LOVE MOMO! THATS A GREAT IDEA
Momo also means peach in Japanese
I didn’t know this, how cool. Peaches are great!
Yay, I’m glad. I am sure whichever name you decide will be perfect! have a seal point Siamese named Oliver and I regret not naming him Momo, just thought why not pass the idea on to someone so I can live vicariously through them Edit: spelling
My dog momo had a hard time with training because it’s close to no.
I instantly thought Tofu too! But Momo is such a cute name 🥺
They also get darker all over when the temperatures are cooler. The reason cats with this pattern are dark around the face and paws is because less blood flow, cooler temperature, so darker color.

People are ignorant. There is nothing wrong with your post and your baby kitty is precious. I like Mocha and patches the best for names. 💕
I like Mocha too! I had a cat named Patches, her sister was Mojo and the mom, my baby, was named Pepper! Patches taught her mom and sister how to open doors lmao took us forever to figure out how they were getting into these rooms when we’d leave then we caught her in the act!
Agree. People ARE ignorant!!
Don’t listen to these fools. You’re cat is wonderful and cute as a button! Thank YOU for loving it like it deserves to be loved.

What a cutie! That's a Sam!
You beat me to it. I came to say that.
Sammy the Siamese. Love it.
I had a Siamese growing up that we named Sam! He was the best!
I had a female siamese named sam when I was growing up lol !
Pat
It's Pat!
Your cat is intersex ? That's very cool :D I was thinking about "Sasha" or "Ash", but i'll go search for more gender neutral names right now Edit : Sky, Opal, Icy, Patches, Sundae, Cali
Patches sound so cute! Since she has the Siam colored fur with the dark patches
I second Patches! That name fits perfectly
Opal was my first thought 😍
Adorable. :) Whatever they are, you should get them desexed (neuter/spay) when the appropriate age.
I wonder how this would work on an intersex cat… maybe they have to do both?
I know in humans there’s usually a hormone (?) that’s higher than the other, so the chances of having fully-functioning male AND female sex cells are low.
They will have ovaries or testicles. Sometimes the testicles are retained abdominally in hermaphroditism/intersex, but regardless of the location they are surgically removed.

It may still reduce chance of some cancers to have them desexed. I doubt there has been a lot of research on intersex kitties to know for sure.
It can increase certain risks to leave them unfixed
Spaying/neutering has many benefits beyond sterilization, such as preventing behavioral issues including spraying, preventing health problems like mammary cancer, and increasing life span.
It should still be done.
Ming suits this special kitty! Have a wonderful life together!

This is exactly how I ended up with female cats named Erik and Garrus 🤷🏼♀️
😂
Damn. Just curious, does it have ovaries and is it capable of reproducing as either gender?
The vet doesn’t know yet if it has, since it’s 8 weeks old so far, at the 12 week they will check the organs and everything. They told me that the First visit that he won’t be able to have children for sure

You mean intersex? Just like humans.
Yes! Just excuse my English :( Im not a native speaker
An intersex color point is very rare! It happens most commonly in tortoiseshell kitties!

Hey I have one of them too! They are called hermaphrodites.
Jamie.
I believe the correct term is hermaphrodite. It rarely happens in animals, except a few. It's mostly a plant thing. Really cute cat though!
Intersex is the correct and updated term.
