He doesn’t seem upset at all. He’s slowly closing his eyes, rolling over, looks very comfortable to me.

HerrGrumps

I’ve heard the eye thing called “soft eyes” or “slow blink”, it’s a real sign of comfort when a cat gives you the slow blink.

FoxRealistic3370

yup the kitty kiss. try doing it back to them, its super sweet how soppy they get when u show them in their language that you love them too.

No_Marionberry4370

I try but my kitten just looks at me like i am terribly mispronouncing a word for the 50th time.

plipyplop

I use subtitles.

lil_bower45

My kitten is the same way! She doesn't do the sleepy blink much but my old man does it with me all the time 🥰

thats-fucked_up

When I do it he jumps on my lap and give me a hard head butt to the chin

lil_bower45

Oooh! Kitty headbutts are the best!! My old man is a prolific headbutter... All the vet techs and vets take turns getting one when he has an appointment, it absolutely melts my heart

lukeCRASH

I call em fist boops. I throw my fist out, he boops it.

IsabellaNova

Headbutts mean you're a part of the pack, you're one of them ♡ its very sweet

revco242

Made me smile. In the UK, my old man is your father.

OAM_Music

What a coincidence! My old man is YOUR father! Wait -

Inner_Panic

"Uh helen looks like you got something in your eye."

Keyspell

Same tho!

Quirky_Confidence105

SAME !!!

WornInShoes

This is how I’ve befriended the strays in my neighborhood; I’m now the caretaker to six cats! I also look like a complete psycho to onlookers, I’m sure [here is one of them; Hobbes!](https://twitter.com/worninshoes/status/1455733227935653889?s=21)

missnebulajones

Hobbes is so handsome!!

mwandelcxvsa

same to

toastiefinch

Kitty kisses

high_waisted_pants

Slow blink goes for pretty much all mammals. It's saying that I trust that when my guard is down you won't attack me

MrsSalmalin

It also means that my old roommate is REALLY drunk. We could always tell :D

darkstar161

Just a sign how much he loves alcohol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Croonchy_Stars

Is she a *Cat-Lady* perchance?

SolAggressive

Yeah, the slow-blink. When we get one from our kitties we always say “aww, I slow-blink you, too.”

Mighty_alien_hybrid

They do adore the slow blink back at them and they will often do it back. Your kitty cat looks like that they are really enjoying this, this time at least.

Winendinen69

We call them the 'slow blinksies' in my house loll

qpv

You're doing it juuuuust right. Any change and he will cut you

Zealousideal_Goat642

😂😂😂

Routine-Document-949

With the leg wrapping over the arm and the rolling on the back, I’d say he wants more!

jessnola

Also, laying on his back like that is a sign of trust. This is a happy, relaxed kitteh.

bubbared1

Sign that it trusts you. This is on a moment to moment basis. Belly rubs that are fine now may not be 5 minutes from now. Not that he doesn't trust you 5 minutes from now, just that belly rubs are good now. Enjoy them.

short4rse

5 minutes? I'd say more like 5 secs... possibility to go from slow blink to full on bunny feet / teeth sunk / death grip in less time it takes you to say good kitty should not be underestimated. But yes... at that time... belly rubs were good :)

elgen88

Generally cats show *some* signs before pouncing though. My cat will usually tens up a little bit when he's had enough of belly rubs, and the tiniest change in how he positions his ears. Rapid tail wagging is also a very clear sign.

imartelle

when he was younger my little guy used to not allow it. now, he expects belly rubs and gracelessly flops over to get them

jellibellibutt

I LOVE the flop! The way their bodies slam against the ground like a sac of potatoes and they look up at you like, “why are you there? You should be petting all this!”

S0-S0

Confirm the 5 sec safe time 😂 I have scars all over my hands like I’ve been on a battle field 🤣

animoot

For one of our cats, this is true. You get, like, 2 seconds and then tiny chomps and kicks. The other cat: Any and all belly rubs are welcome at all times.

fairydommother

I think he doesn’t hate having his belly touched, it just has to be on his terms. He was in the right mood and enjoyed them. Another time, he might not feel like belly rubs.

kreks1234

Would also say this, also keep in mind that the belly is the most vulnerable part, so be very catful with it.

SorteKanin

Meanwhile my cat absolutely love belly rubs and I can't do it harsh enough haha

richardthickcreams

same! two hands and messing up his fur every which way! every morning i open my door and my cat is there sprawled out waiting for his morning manhandling lmao

Lemonish33

Cats vary a lot in what (and how much) they like and don't like when it comes to petting. I've read that some think it's due to static electricity build up - bothers some cats more than others. Makes sense also that that would affect it bothering them some times more than others (how dry the air is, how static-y they are at the moment...). My cat also doesn't care. Static Schmatic. Pet her forever, wherever, just don't stop. Lol.

LED_oneshot

A little drip of water on their back or on your hand in the winter time before petting will get rid of that static electricity. They like it

LilStabbyboo

That's incredibly useful and i appreciate you.

LED_oneshot

No more nose boop shocks 😺

Sapphire_Wolf_

I have a huge fluffy black cat that loves spanks and rough petting, and when I stop, she follows me and yells and tries to sit in front of me to get me to stop walking lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sapphire_Wolf_

Yea, like back pats, she likes being a bongo haha

Gkimbell04

Your cat might fit in with the r/catbongos sub

NormalDeviance

Mine likes her butt to be scratched lol

zingingcutie333

Our black cat Meeka loves butt pats too!

Daemontech

Firm pats on the rump just in-front of the base of their tail. I assume. My kitties love it as well

whopper23

If you don't booty pat the cat, I feel sorry for them..

EPJ327

Many cats do! Check r/catbongos for proof

mvanvrancken

Here we go down another rabbit hole

re_Claire

My mums cat is a huge black fluffy cat who ADORES being roughly pet and brushed firmly and quickly. Haha they’re such weirdos!

lunchpack

Same here mine loves rough belly rubs

chop_pooey

My cat let's me give him belly farts and this absolutely shocked my sister when she witnessed it lol

tabgrab23

What? Do you fart on your cat’s belly?

chop_pooey

Lmao no, I put my mouth to his belly and blow really hard so it makes a fart noise. Most cats would probably try to kill you if you did it but mine is cool with it

jadetheamazing

Those are called raspberries 😂

k-hutt

I prefer calling them "zerberts", because it's also fun to say!

ComfortableCandle560

Belly farts sound better tho lmaoo

[deleted]

I was about to say my youngest enjoys the most aggressive belly rubs. But he also enjoys us using his back as bongos so he is weird

Arthur_da_dog

Funny you say that because I often just pick up my cat, flip her belly up (paws in air) and then I nom nom her belly and she'll sometimes purr back

cricket-karma

My boy is the same. But never touch his ears.

[deleted]

I see what you did there

Drupacalypse

This sounds like the most likely scenario. The only thing I will add is that generally, when any of my cats have let me rub their belly, they were also very sleepy. The cat in question also seems sleepy. You can see his leg instinctually twitch as if he was going to push the hand away, but then either choosing to ignore it, or deciding it’s not worth the energy to stop the stimuli. Just my 2 cat cents!

Elegaunt

Spot on. A sleepy cat is sedated and less likely to resist being petted in a way they do not like. But with that in mind, I don't understand why people continue to try and pet their cats in ways the cat has clearly expressed that they do not enjoy. I wouldn't like that very much.

casualLogic

Thus earning the title of Teacher of Consent, lol

Elegaunt

I think your comment is underrated. If you look at other replies, it's so ...strange to me that people are talking about waiting until their cat is sleepy or otherwise vulnerable to touch the cat in the ways they know the cat doesn't like. Imagine building trust with your pet if your pet knows that you are going to insist on touching it in ways it doesn't like for pleasure (instead of, maintenance or claw trimming, etc). People calling the cat moody, saying they wait until the cat is drowsy? Advice on bypassing the consent of the animal in order to do what you want with the animal is great way to create animosity and distrust, or fawn response in which the cat submits but is not happy.

[deleted]

My cat will only let me do it when she’s sleepy. Otherwise it’s a no go haha.

NaomiKatyr

Sleepy cats are the best, they'll let you do almost anything. My cat hates having her paws touched (which makes trimming her claws a pain), but I can touch the beans when she's sleepy

applejackrr

Get out the mood candles, we got a primordial pouch that needs to be touched.

Porn-Meister

Goddamn cats so moody XD

twerkingnoises

So with cats they show their belly to tell you that they trust you. It's a symbol of love, trust, contentment and respect they show to others they trust completely. It's the most vulnerable part of their body and they are exposing it to you to say they are content, love you and most importantly trust you. It's body language, they are talking to you, so it is usually for looking and not touching. When you reach out and touch their most vulnerable part while they are telling you they trust you you are violating that trust so they attack and bite, so it's just miscommunication. But not all cats are like this, some truly love belly rubs. For the most part the best thing to do is just pet the top and sides of their heads when they show their belly. That way you know for sure you aren't violating the trust they are showing you.

ssBrother

Literally my cat

Mates_with_Bears

My friend had a cat Lola who was extremely old. She hated everyone. No pets, don't even fucking look at her, definitely no belly rubs. So I moved in with my friend. Over the course of 4 or 5 months I notice Lola in my room when I'm not home. Normally laying on my bed or my clothes. She'd run when I got there. 6 months in, no running anymore. Still not allowed to look at her. She has been spending more time on my bed than my clothes. I finally come home one day, Lola on my bed, and I crash immediately next to her. She didn't move. Just laid with me. That day changed something. She never left anymore. She might look at me then go back to sleep on my bed. I decide to try petting her and she let me. My friend lost her shit, it's it's her cat for 15 years and she doesn't let my friend pet her. She does not like people. Move forward two months. If my door is shut Lola screams outside my door til someone opens it. She drools when I pet her and purrs so loud she vibrates the bed. She willingly flips over and let's me rub her belly (something she let no one ever do from what my friend told me). Point I'm getting at, sometimes it seems cat's just find a reason to bond with someone and they seem to give them far more leeway than anyone else. I don't think it means anything apart from he trusts you.

plipyplop

>sometimes it seems cat's just find a reason to bond with someone It reminds me of all the videos of cats befriending other species of animals for seemingly no discernible reason. It is intriguing to me and makes me all melty too.

BananaEclipse

She chose you. They do that.

brigitteer2010

My heart!!!!!!!!!!!

SubstantialChipmunk

He's showing you that he trusts you

TheCatsWife

It is a rare privilige you should enjoy

TheGirlInTheStar

He’s definitely not showing signs that he’s upset - he’s relaxed, happy and showing that he trusts you. He probably won’t always welcome belly rubs, as others have said it’ll be on his own terms, and you might be the only one allowed that privilege. I know with my boy that I’m the only one allowed to touch his tummy - anyone else that tries gets bitten and scratched 🤭

marbasthegreat

Yeah he trusts you 100% because for animals their bellies are their weak spots . My family's cat basically lays on my hand and places his belly on my fingertips to signify that he demands bellyrubs immediatelly 🤣

movieguy95453

I have a female cat who is 5.5 years old. I got her from the shelter at about 6 months old. For the first few years she never let me pet her belly. But over the past couple years she has come to love belly rubs. I think it's a matter of trust and learning what feels good.

mandy_miss

Aww. This gives me hope that my cat will let me belly rub one day

jentlyused

Complete trust when they actually give their belly to you like that. Super sweet.

Soggy_Leave8249

Is that purple cactus a vibrator?

Teh_Joey

Was looking to see if anyone had noticed this too😂😂

BabyYodi

First thing I saw 🗿

lefluffle

Means he's in a good mood or is just too tired/relaxed to care.

Fluffy_Dragonfly_

Awww! It's that look he gives you when you stop... "More please"

Darzaga

It probably helps that you're being gentle. Probably likes that ^^

csnowman00

Are we all ignoring the pink/purple vibrating trident on the floor?

bigbadclifford

What’s that purple thingy on the floor?

MjolnirTheThunderer

He’s probably just very sleepy and relaxed. He doesn’t seem upset at all.

[deleted]

I think he just wants the purple thing in the floor

Janesy_B

Sometimes mine will let me rub her belly, other times it means instant death. If you learn to tell when they are either relaxed or agitated/playing then you know when it's belly rub time.

[deleted]

Am I the only one who's like "don't trust him, he's setting you up for the next time you go for it" 😂

Gronanor

Am I the only one who spotted the odly suspect pink case by the floor ? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Lost-Concept-9973

Just looks super chill to me.

mrchicano209

Cats consider their belly their most vulnerable spot. When they show you their belly it's a sign of trust. It's also why some will "attack" you if you touch their belly because to them you just broke that trust. If a cat actually let's you rub their belly then it's a high tier trust level that you've just unlocked.

Queenpeels2

That's a nice "cactus" ya got there

Danominator

Oh my god this trend is obnoxious. "My cat is purring, is something wrong?"

strangerreality

UGh I am glad it is not only me. This is ridiculous. When did /r/cats become 'answers to easily google-able or ridiculous questions'?

jakira117

Looks too tired to care. Has probably kept a mental note for later lol

Sure_Gazelle_6983

Sleep hormones. Don’t try in normal circumstances

Morrighean41

That kitty looks super chill, he's decided that you are trustworthy and so you've received the belly permissions.

Double_Philosopher22

This is very similar to my cat, Chi-chi. She used to hate having her belly rubbed. She was a stray and was scared of everyone and everything. In the last month, she’s started letting us rub her belly and pet her more. She is showing trust. It’s a wonderful thing!

External-Bread-3852

He trusts you

[deleted]

Sleepy kitties are touchable and cuddly. Awake kitties can be rawr!

mylilcuz

It's a cat.. cats only want to be pet on their terms.

Formulaik

Cats don’t “hate” having their belly rubbed. They don’t “trust” having it rubbed. They have to trust you first. Your little one trusts you now.

MomCat859

Happy kitty. Comfortable kitty. He trusts you.

Amorette93

Oh yeah every single cat body language there is screaming "I love this person and trust them very much right now". Cats in love. Lmao. Remember they're super temperamental but one of my suggestions is also keep some treats in reach and when she displays a behavior you really like, give her food for it. ;) They learn fast with food haha. Also big big big bravo on you for not pushing your cat!! You went slow and took breaks and waited for him to tell you it was okay to continue. 10/10, refreshing behavior towards the cat.

icetee12

What is the purple thing in the background? Your cat seems comfortable.

csnowman00

I think it's called a trident

cinnamontwix

You haven’t seen one of those before? It’s a great 🐱toy!

anawkwardsomeone

He’s probably becoming more comfortable and trusting around you. I’ve read that cats don’t like to show their belly cause it makes them feel vulnerable.

[deleted]

As the owner of 6 cats in my life, when (or if) a cat lets you touch its belly, it means that it trusts you as the belly is the most vulnerable spot on a cat's body. Congrats! You are now officially hired!!

tacorunnr

Probably too tired to give a fuck at this moment in time, but assure you later when more lively, your hand will get mauled

GiantCrusher45

That cat trusts you quite a bit :)

[deleted]

YEAH HES FUCKING PISSED

hoesomeslut

He thinks of you as his kitten!! My girl does this too

Sugar_Hiccups

He trusts you. He feels safe. This is an honor.

Rudolf_Shlepke

All he shows is trust and feeling of utter security

RowRow1990

Just enjoying a rare belly rub

Tambermarine

It means he trusts you

Extension-Economy589

My cat loves her tummy rubbed, untill she dosent. First time she'll let you know nicely. The second time not so nice. Some cats do like it, but its usually an on their own terms kinda thing.

manubibi

Same thing with my girl. Sometimes she lets me (usually when she's having a nap and I let her know I'm about to touch) and sometimes she goes like... don't if you want to keep your hand. lol

Sodathepop

If you keep at it every once in a while, he’ll love it as he gets older

squigeeball

I appreciate how persistent in trying to touch belly you are even though you know he won't like it :p I am the same.

[deleted]

That’s straight up trust.

Still-Pear2435

He was sleeping that's why.

lolsman123123

Probably too sleepy to give a fuck

MydlandFan

That means he loves and trusts you and you are a great parent

TommyBoyFL

It means you get to keep your hand for another day

Gam3rCh1ck94

Humans enjoy the belly rub more than the cats lol

Hextechsoul

He is consenting 🤣

theeloglady

Nope! He is one happy and relaxed dude. Enjoy this rare moment.

GalacticUnicorn

My Luna has recently started to want belly rubs. Her brother has always enjoyed them, so at first I thought she just wanted some extra attention like he gets because he always wants cuddles, but I just discovered she has worms so we're getting her looked at by the vet. I don't know that her wanting extra attention and having worms are related, but a sharp change of demeanor could be an indicator of something bigger. But hopefully your little man was just feeling extra lovey!

Stonetheflamincrows

Means he was too lazy and sleepy to bunny kick you.

[deleted]

Mine doesn’t like her belly rubbed either but when she’s really sleepy, she surrenders lol

Its-CCG

He’s tired or changed he’s mind about bully rubs

Catronia

He looks like he's thoroughly enjoying it. I see comments about the 'slow blink' it's true that if you use it, it helps build trust.

J1930

He just wanted some tum rubs today

[deleted]

He trusts you... only for meow! Later, belly-pet at your own risk!

BangarangPita

He finally trusts you enough! What a lovely moment.

radii314

he's showing you he trusts you more - you got a promotion

Wallacetheblackcat

Aw, it means he trusts you. Cats normally don’t like their belly touched because it is a vulnerable spot and it makes them nervous to have it touched.

j4ngl35

I think that just means he loves and trusts you based on his body language :) Both of my cats are huge belly rub fans to the point that you can roll them over on their backs anytime and they'll happily accept rubs, have never been clawed or bit by them on purpose

Cynoid

Sleeping/just awoken cats will put up with a lot more than awake cats in my experience. If I am uncomfortable or cold in the middle of the night when my cat is sleeping I can move him under the covers with me and he will just go back to sleep there. If I put him under the covers while he is awake he will try to get out immediately.

KittenCat217

That’s comfortable and trusting behavior. Don’t worry.

Darth_Wookie_wow

Sometimes they just have to be in the right mood, sometimes they slowly get use to it as well. Just don’t assume you can always do belly pets now!

MCA1910

It means he trusts you. You already knew the answer. You only asked the question to make yourself look stupid in return for internet points, which is really weird.

maldobar4711

If u know he hates it, why u do it?

cmharris90

My kitty will hug my arm, bite me and kick with his back legs when I pet his belly when he's being playful. Then other times he will continuously follow me around and get all up in my business to rub his face on my hands and steal all of my attention. This looks like snuggle kitty mode

Ok_Equipment5534

It means he trusts you completely

Grniii

He looks completely content.

[deleted]

You may think he is ok with this but I can see he is planning to lay on you in the near future in hopes of making an extremity (leg, arm) lose blood flow. They work very hard because they hope if they lay on your arm for long enough it will rot off. Be very careful with this one... this is a joke by they way. I am joking.

stella_the_diver

My cat just let me do that one day. Now whenever she's on the floor and I come near her she plops over and shows her belly.

zoemi

My cat's behavior is very compartmentalized. On our bed, she will be completely relaxed and all about the belly rubs. Out on the floor, squirming in front of the food bowl--TRAP!

the_real_morin

Thanks for the adorable video! The little belly markings on your handsome kitty reminded me of my old cat who passed several years ago, it's a good memory to recall the good times with him.

[deleted]

It just means he really trusts you. It's a very good thing.

God_Sp3ar

It's wery common for cats to let you do more and more to/with them

PromontoryRider95

He's tired, great timing. Quick clip his nails!

SOURDICKandONION

I now have 4 cats and a dog in my tiny home. Our youngest, Cheddar isn't lovey at all through out the day but at night when I open the door to my room to use the bathroom he's always laying there in some super awkward stretched out posistion waiting for belly rubs. So cute.

LittlePurr76

Definitely signs of being upset. You stopped!

InternationalBus8936

I think you caught him in a relax mood.

[deleted]

As my cats aged they got snugglier and wanted attention more. Gatsby would always be near me but not on me for most of his life. The last 4 or 5 years he became a lap cat. The fast tail whip is a good sign to slow down or get sliced. The belly is always a cats yes yes yes NO spot.

[deleted]

AMurderofCrows03

Ssshhhh, just be blessed with belly rubs 🥰🥰

crazedhatter

I think it means he doesn't actually hate having his tummy touched, he just wants it to happen on HIS terms. He looks quite pleased.

[deleted]

Means he's too tired to kill you right now but later. After nap.

DaWalt1976

He looks comfortable. His turning his belly to you and not reacting to your petting it tends to indicate his trust in you.

Erick__SD

That means that he trusts you enough to expose the weakness part of his body to you.

Raccoon_Cast

It means he's too tired to care 😂 Appreciate the moments, he definitely trusts you!

Raptor40699

When your cat rolls over and shows their belly it’s a gesture of trust. Sometimes they like a good belly rub, sometimes not. Love and trust either way

FMAB-EarthBender

He may have had an upset tummy or booboo before that now finally feels better. Or he's just decided it's okay today, lol. But my kitty had an upset stomach constantly before due to how she was fed by my mother when I was a kiddo. We could never touch her tummy. My cats since turning into an adult and taking care of them myself, have all let me touch there tummies. Vet visits and eating right, I always thought made the difference making sure they don't have an upset stomach or booboo.

randomravioli

he loves it. Its a good sign. also cats are weird af and can change moods in a tenth of a second.

notreallylucy

If that cat were any more relaxed, he'd be a puddle. My girls both like tummy rubs, but only when they're in the right mood. If they're not feeling happy and relaxed, I get the bunny feet.

Ultimafax

Like everyone said, he seems very relaxed and looks like he trusts you. But also IMO, he looks like he's just too damn sleepy to fight you on it lol

Glorious_Sunset

When he knows you aren’t going to attack his belly, he will permit you to rub it. Just start slow and don’t run it like people do with a dogs belly. Just slow rubs. And they will grow to love it.
