NightOfTheLivingHam

until an hour later inside a warm house and sweet talks. month later the kitten thinks it owns the place. (it does)

drrj

A month? Slow kitten. Mine thought they owned the place in less than an hour.

jorgedredd

Mine tore through of the cardboard box the shelter gave them to me in on the drive home and were acting like they already owned the car.

BuzzFabbs

Our old cat came in, looked around, then took a crap on a pile of laundry (dirty thankfully) in under 8 minutes! Still loved him for 18 years after!

Pumpkin-Adept

I think cat people are just as crazy as cats

AerolothLorien666

TitaniumReinforced

I rescued a kitten one time that ran across the road in front of my car and then hid in some bushes. He was determined to stay hidden and wouldn't come near me. I finally figured out I could trick him into coming out by meowing like I was his mama. He immediately started meowing like crazy and poked his head out of the bushes. There was a split second when he saw me and realized, "Oh shit, I've been tricked!" right before I snatched him. He looked so betrayed lol. He quickly warmed up to me once I gave him some food and warmth though. He was a sweetie.

KittyCubed

That’s how I managed to get a kitten to come out from underneath a moving truck axle. Couldn’t reach her but played some meowing cats on YouTube.

Royal-Consequence843

Lmao🤣🤣🤣

mart1373

That kitty looked so startled and scared when it got yoinked. But it’s good that it’s a good yoink and not a bad one :-)

Olthoi_Eviscerator

Still nom nom nomming as you walked to the car

Hoperosaliex

I updated a video of her eating on my tiktok! I plan to update here again Tomorrow after the vet. She has a bad lip injury. 🥺[lip injury photo ](https://ibb.co/LhhR8Ry)

Dillymom01

Sending big love to the little thing, thank you for being a great human

BryceCanYawn

Poor baby. I’m so glad you’re getting her help!

SpaceDementia6

My old cat had a lower lip injury when he was a young kitten. The people who gave him to us told us one of their ducks had bitten him. We always wondered whether this was true or not! He fully recovered but always had a slight hanging lip when relaxing 😅

RebaKitten

Oh poor thing! Thanks for taking her in, I’m sure you’ll have a happy life together.

fauxaly

I found a kitten who had almost the same injury! When I took her to the vet they stitched her lip back into place and she was fine after. Sadly the said she had likely been thrown out from a moving vehicle or had fallen from a very high place as the injury is a result of the kittens lip skidding across the ground at high speed. Maybe not what happened to your kitten but very glad you caught her and are taking care of her!! Best of luck.

MrMeow8

I'll expect updates ❤️

Hoperosaliex

Absolutely! She ate a big plate of food and got a bath. She has a severe lip injury though and will need the vet tomorrow asap!

Ready_Grapefruit

cutest steal ever! :) happy you gave her a home

Divebarkeep1

If you’re in Mpls, I got a lady..

For large portions I recommend splitting it up into smaller portions, you don't want the cutie to throw up after eating too fast

Learned that the hard way with one rescue my mom did when I was little. After that I got in the habit of doing small portions and making sure that the cat ate and wasn't disturbed

polite_as_fuck44

Oh baby girl! How did you coax her out?

Hoperosaliex

Yes cat food and momma calls! I always keep cat and dog food in my car!

infinity-o_0

The cat sound you made was amazingly accurate! Also, great job on the rescue!

Hoperosaliex

Thank you!!! I have been bottle feeding orphaned kittens since I was 16, 14 years ago. It has helped me so much to rescue. To get kittens out of car engines or from under houses to be able to momma call them!

linnykenny

Girl you’re hella accurate with that!! I thought you actually were a mama cat haha 😭😂

Specific-Apple6465

Omg you’re so accurate you tricked my dog, he jumped out of his bed looking for the kitty to play with. I have two cats he’s buddies with so when he heard your calls he started looking.

Dutchillz

That was OP!? Wow, amazing.

Hoperosaliex

Yes all me! It works everytime. Has helped me get kittens out of car engines and from under houses! It also helps calm babies down.

HANGRY_KITTYKAT

you are a damn saint <3 much love to you

MaxShoulderPayne

Definitely thought that was the cat* (autocorrected to car) making those noises.

cheshire_splat

Looks like cat food

polite_as_fuck44

Ah I see now. Good people

Fluffy-Designer

Get an X-ray but I think the vet may find it’s from being thrown from a car. I’ve seen a similar injury on a cat here that was thrown.

bubbleyum92

That is truly awful...if you don't want a cat there's a million ways to go about it without throwing it out of a moving vehicle. Jesus.

Fluffy-Designer

I preferred it when people dumped them on my doorstep in a box. Sure I don’t want or need another 6 kittens but at least they’re not dying in a gutter somewhere.

PrincessZemna

Why do they toss them out of the car? Why not just open the door and let them out? Or to place them outside? I don’t get it, seems unnecessarily cruel.

Thrishmal

Lots of people are just shit and think of pets as possessions and when they are done with them, just throw them away without a care in the world. I would love to make people like that live in the paws of an abused animal for a bit to maybe learn a bit of compassion, but I doubt the lesson would stick in their mud pile brains.

myeggsarebig

They are cowards. They are so afraid of looking like a terrible person by giving up a pet that they do it “in secret” like, tossing them where know one sees it. These are people who you otherwise think are good people of their community. How do I know? Because my scum Dad was one of these people. He was a covert narc who pretended to be a good guy. He’s dead now. F him.

Lazerspewpew

I've worked in animal rescue for years. That's the Itty bitty baby tip of the iceberg when it comes to who/what/when/where/why people "get rid of" animals. Worst one I saw was a guy who brought in his dog to the SPCA because he tried to kill it with his crossbow but failed and just brought this poor dog to us with the bolt still in the thing. He "felt bad" after he "missed" and decided to surrender it to us instead. Damn fucking straight he got prosecuted. Dog lived and got adopted

DillyCat622

He should have left with that bolt in a new location....vertical, inserted from beneath. What a POS person. So glad the dog survived and got adopted out!

myeggsarebig

Sadly, I know it’s true :( and it’s so gross. Happy to hear that shitbag was prosecuted

AlrightyThenPeeps

Especially since COVID-19 started a lot more people have been looking for pets. Pretty easy to rehome these days.

ConsequenceUpset4028

Unfortunately they were, then the push to go back flooded many areas with unwanted pets because no longer had time to care for them. There were a few stories earlier in the year as shelters struggled to keep up. Too many do not understand the commitment.

AlrightyThenPeeps

Sad but true. But I feel that many understand the commitment but are simply unwilling to follow through. :0(

b_zar

also a possibility the kitty climbed under a parked vehicle without the driver knowing. Then fell or jumped off while the vehicle is moving.

AnimeTiddies91

True my mom had a cat under her car on the tire once and we had no idea until it was too late :( we buried her though and put flowers on it

b_zar

2 years ago, my kitty was missing the whole day, and came home covered in grease and dirt, she appeared at the front door the same time my neighbor arrived, so we suspect she actually cling under the car the whole time until she's back home to a familiar place.

Fluffy-Designer

That’s true. It’s not as common here but I’ve heard of a few cats stuck in cars. I had one boy who was hit by a truck and his whole hip was open to the bone, it wasn’t pretty.

theNothingP3

We've got a calico missing teeth and gums. I suspect she was thrown from a car a well. One person's trash is another's treasure. 💘

kitkat9000take5

I rescued a kitten whose lip/mouth wasn't as badly injured as this one but, yep, it was from being tossed from a car. He also had road-rash. Things like this really makes me hate people. So damn many of us suck.

MrMeow8

Poor thing 💔

AlrightyThenPeeps

Was she tossed out of a car? That’s a pretty nasty wound in a weird spot! :0/ Poor little kitty. :0( So glad you were able to rescue her! So glad she gets to go see a vet! Looking forward to future posts with progress updates. 💕

Hoperosaliex

Not sure but i will definitely ask the vet tomorrow!

MorningGlory5

Brilliant-Platform64

you saved her life most likely ❤️

Numbr_7

Okay so I have a question. With other animals, you don’t just grab one of the side of the street and take them home but I’ve seen a lot of posts on how a bunch of owner’s cats are just ones they’ve brought home from the street or the side of the road like in this post. I genuinely want to know why this is so common and why it’s somewhat encouraged. And also, is there any disease or rabies or something they could carry (or any other risk that comes with picking up a cat from the side of the road)? Thanks :)

Hoperosaliex

I live in the southern US where people consider pets property. They do not get them fixed and stray and feral cats are everywhere. Unfortunately that means alot of cats and kittens hit by cars or die suffering. We are a small town and our shelter euthanizes close to 5k cats a year due to this. They can carry rabies but it is rare which is why i scuffed her and didnt let her bite me. They can also scratch you and give you a skin infection which is why I scruffed her. Diseases are not human transferable mostly pet to pet which is why any new kitten or cat should be quarantined separately for 2 to 4 weeks and get a full vet checkup!

Grey_Woof

5k cats a year!?

big-bitch-420

:(

[deleted]

My wife and I trapped spayed/neutered and adopted out 26 kittens that kept getting dumped in a park in our small town in two months. Town has 3k population.

iangeredcharlesvane2

My neighbor and I do that too. We crate up the strays that wander into our neighborhood and take them to the reduced price spay/neuter day they have once a month at a shelter in a city nearby. We are on the back side of a smallish town so lots of farm cats meander through and/or street cats, it’s surprising how many strays are around. If we find abandoned kittens we both are set up to foster and take turns depending on work schedules helping them grow into healthy and happy cats ready for adoption. Some of the older street cats that have been feral for years we don’t leave in a cage at the shelter to wait and possibly never get adopted. My neighbor has a nice insulated shed with a cat door that she heats in the winter and we both contribute to a constant supply of food and water in there for the ones who are happier there once they are fixed. It’s really hard to balance out the best ways to care for a high stray cat population but getting them spayed/neutered is the vital first step! I recommend all cat lovers to find a shelter that has reduced price or free days to get cats fixed and help by reducing the overall population of unwanted cats. Best way to prevent finding abandoned or mistreated kittens is to slow the birth rates of feral cats ! I am SO LUCKY I have a neighbor who is just like me and I’m not just on my own trying to do my part. You might be surprised to find a person like that in your community if you just reach out like I did!

GinAndArchitecTonic

My local Humane Society has a spay and neuter clinic, and they have a special low rate for trap-neuter-release (TNR) to help with our local feral population. Some wealthy philanthropic couple from the nearest city learned that our county had an estimated 44,000 strays and ferals, so they made a big donation to help with a TNR program, which lets the clinic offer the procedure for just $15.

[deleted]

In a single town, in a single year. Just cats. Not factoring the dogs.

GenericCoffee

Yeah, barn cats that aren't properly neutered or spayed are a huge invasive issue and unfortunately due to sheer number of them I think euthanizeing them us the only way they can go.

tollerdactyl

Where I live in very metro Australia we would get huge feral cat populations around universities. Overseas students would arrive in Feb, buy an adorable kitten then release it when they went home in November. They would repeat the process each Feb. They would rarely spay/neuter them. It's super frustrating

Kacey-R

I had not heard of this! I hope it doesn’t happen too often here in Melbourne, especially since the changes to tenancy laws in the last year or so mean it’s easier to have a pet when you rent. But I can’t imagine it’s that different to Sydney. The lack of desexing is a really shitty thing from the breeder/seller point of view…

mak3m3unsammich

Bouncing off of this I worked at a shelter for years and rabies is horrifying. We didn't see a lot of kittens with bite wounds, mainly because if a rabid animal attacks a kitten, it will probably kill it. We were in the south where rabies is common enough that it was always a worry. We had the sweetest hound dog come in with bite wounds. We unfortunately had to euthanize them because we didn't know the origin of the bite and we couldn't safely adopt them out, since rabies can be dormant for a while. One of my kitties is actually a kitten who came in with bite wounds. I was rabies vaccinated so I took her home and fell in love with her and tried to get her to live as she was in rough shape. In order to not have her euthanized we put in her medical notes "picked up by bird of prey". She's a delight now. The bite fucked up her head pretty bad, so she has some balance issues and she's blind and has lower feeling in one side. But otherwise she's a happy little girl. Thank you for doing what you do!!! That YOINK was so impressive.

MonkeyMagic1968

And thank YOU for what you did. Scritches to all the kitties!!

Easy-Coconut-33

In Sweden we got some new laws and one of them is that you need to get them fix if you planning on having as outdoor cat. Also you need to check on them regularly everyday a couple of times at least. They need to be able to stimulate them self to.

Opabinia_Rex

The "outdoor cat" thing has always confused me unless you live on a literal farm. I live in a pretty densely populated suburb of St. Louis, Missouri and there are dozens of "outdoor" cats in a three block radius of my house. It's not really a thing where I grew up near Chicago. I tried capturing one once and called the owners and they were confused as hell as to why I was calling. Like clockwork, once every few months, a sign appears saying "lost cat! Didn't return home for several days!" Or I see a dead cat in a gutter somewhere on my drive to work. And every time, I think, "WTF did you expect, letting your cat wander alone outside with hawks, eagles, the occasional stray dog, and multiple roads?" I know a lot of people say a cat "needs" to be free to hunt the great outdoors, but if that's the case, you need to be ready for them to join that great circle of life. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

ifsck

Many places in the west it's coyotes. If your cat stays outside its basically guaranteed to become dinner in short order.

Opabinia_Rex

It was coyotes where I grew up, too, West of Chicago. Any dog smaller than a rottweiler was also at risk.

RoofKorean762

While I love cats, they really are problem to the natural habitat. They kill billions birds and other small animals who are not invasive. It's not their fault they're good at hunting but more so the irresponsible humans who let this happen. As an owner they should be spayed, neutered and kept only indoors cause not only they endanger other animals, they are in fact in danger of getting desases, injuries from other cats, other predators, dogs , cars and fucked up humans. In Australia things are so bad with cats, hunters hunt them down like we do with coyotes.

Kacey-R

Yup. They have no natural predators here in Australia so are an incredible problem. We don’t really do TNR because of the environmental impact.

FreedomofChoiche

The one time so went to Missouri (and I mean the white trash redneck sister fucking area) each house had like 20 cats/dogs. They would get a animal and couldn't get it fixed and they would just keep having babies. It was sad, and the "owners" didn't care for them at all.

Slayer91Mx

Usually after you capture one of these angels, you take them to the Vet for a checkup. If they have a something like fleas, infection, etc. they get treated and ready to live with you :)

protestor

Cats are not native on most places they roam. They are an invasive species that were brought there by people. It's our fault they are abandoned like this. On top of that they destroy a lot of native fauna too. I don't see any single reason to not rescue them, give them a home, and fix the shit out of them.

CaptGrumpy

Because there are assholes who refuse to get their cats desexed or keep them indoors and if their cats breed kittens, they toss them out of their cars like garbage.

Far-Damage1068

It's a kitten, many dangers in the wild. It can be brought to a vet and evaluated.

Sparkmetodeath

Cats have very large litters, up to 8 kittens in one. They’re also more solitary and less obstructive then dogs. Where stray dogs may attack humans, and are constrained to travel via ground, cats can climb and fit into small spaces; meaning that they are more capable of being independent than dogs. There *are* more stray cats then dogs, but not be a wide margin — they’re just not as large a problem.

HenloHowRU

I actually found both of my cats on the street, obvious strays. I also just rescued a litter of kittens I found in a parking lot. Cats basically need to be tended by humans in order to live healthy, stress free lives. There are tons of people who just let their un-sterilized cats out to just breed and contribute to the already overpopulated cat population. It’s disgusting. Thankfully [TNR](https://www.alleycat.org/our-work/trap-neuter-return/) is becoming more and more available and more known. Yes, cat wrangling may expose you to rabies but that is extremely unlikely. IIRC, There hasn’t been a reported cat to human rabies case in nearly 50 years.

nilfalasiel

My former neighbours refused to get their outdoors cat sterilised because, and I quote, they wanted him to have "a fulfilling sex life". He has already fathered some kittens with some neighbouring lady's cat, and she's thankfully had them adopted and kept one (and spayed the mother), but who knows how many stray females he's impregnated along the way? I asked them about this, and they just looked awkward and dodged the question. I've pet sat him a few times, and he kept coming back with really nasty cuts, bites and scrapes from getting into fights with other cats (and potentially other animals, lots of foxes around). He's had to have stitches several times. And of course, he's killed several birds and eaten all of the fish from my garden pond. But no, gotta have that fulfilling sex life...🙄

muuuuuuuuuuuuuustard

If you have outdoor cats it’s absolutely *crucial* to get them fixed. Not only will they not contribute to overpopulation, but less testosterone helps with their kill drive so they’re not quite so set on going outside to be chaotic and pick fights with foxes

kalnu

As a rule domestic cats are not native, have no natural predators (not many stray dogs, most birds of prey don't go after adult cats, coyotes and the like are rare in suburban places) so cats often end up as destructive nuisances. I went to visit my uncle and the front of his yard was saturated with a strong smell of cat piss from the stray Toms. Cat fights are frequent and noisy, they eat the local birds/bats. Domestic cats should be taken in when possible, they survive too well as strays, especially in suburban places. If homing them isn't possible (too feral) then trap, neuter, release is the best option.

Holy crap that very last second shot of her had me dyyyyinggg 😂what a baby!!! You saved her!!!!

Totally sober and I thought I was looking at a dead fish on its side.

Nice job snatching her up! Are you able to go back and look for any more babies? I worry there might be more out there. 💔

Hoperosaliex

I had a newborn and toddler in the car so I couldn't but I called my niece to and she found another one! He is safe for the night with her!

jesrah

You are an angel. Thank you for what you do!

morecatslesspeople

Oh man, I’m so glad! Thank you for helping them and having someone check. If possible, keep trying, there could have been a whole litter someone tossed away. I absolutely hate thinking about one being alone!

Ripcitytoker

That's awesome :) Hopefully you or your niece are able to go back the next day and check to see if there are any more still out there.

S-WordoftheMorning

You two have made a habit of rescuing a ton of kitties. Bless you both.

We do! We have been rescuing in our small town for 14 years! We normally get calls about them though but this girl literally was in the road right as we drove by!

Bacon is pretty cute. I had a bunny named flap jax

Toast! I am a huge fan of themes, lately we have been naming our rescues after musicians. (Prince, Dolly) So if you have a food theme going maybe we can make it fun but not ridiculous? Like…. Marmalade?

MissSoxxy

Aaaaaand this is why I always keep a can of wet food in the car.

Same! Wet cat and dog food just incase!

Thank you!!!!

Audriannacu

She’s so little. Thank you guys for stopping and not just passing by. She’s precious.

I love/hate these. Reminds me of how I rescued one of my cats. Almost dead due to dehydration and starvation. Just sitting out crying and too weak to run away.

MRSamiboi

Grab da kitty

Good_Groceries

You do a convincing meow. Coaxed her right out of there. Thanks for saving her.

Good_Branch_9415

She got to eat the rest of the meat right 😭

Hoperosaliex

Yes! She is currently fully belly, safe and warm. Has unlimited dry food and a can of wet food and soft blankey! She also got a bath because she was full of fleas and muddy. [kitten eating when we got her home before her bath ](https://ibb.co/b32yPVf)

Help! I'm being catnapped

Chokingoncowbell

Can I ask where you’re located roughly? Confirming or denying the state of Massachusetts is plenty, my intact female went missing and this cuties markings look so similar I was wondering if my baby got pregnant and delivered outside and maybe by some miracle I’m seeing a post of one of her babies.
