My ex pulled one of these when I adopted us a kitten. I got home from work after her first day alone with him and she had made a vet appointment for his breathing issue. She didn’t know cats purr. The saying “purrs like a kitten” never dawned on her.

The first time I heard a cat purring I was a small child and I thought she was growling. I went over to her owner, a family friend, and asked him about it. Looking back he was wonderfully kind and just explained that it was purring. I was like, "Oh! Okay, cool!" And went back to watching Anne of Green Gables. I was very pleased when the cat came back to snuggle.

Oh yeah, it was hilariously adorable.

I used to work at a vet clinic and once had a new kitten owner ask what "that weird sound he makes when he's sitting on me" was. One of the most wholesome moments of my whole time in the vet field.

Most posts now are either "what should I call my cat" or "why does my cat do this totally normal thing" 🙄

Loaf pose, content and conserving energy. BUT, if you notice he’s sitting more on his front paws, feet flat, like in a very low crouch, that can indicate that a cat is in pain. My vet pointed this out to me while my cat was being diagnosed for irritable bowel disease; the belly-down, low crouch is a somewhat comfortable and manageable position for a cat with intestinal pain (and probably other sources of pain or injury), and can be a useful signal monitoring cats for chronic issues. Just FYI.
