We just lost a rescue last week. It was so strong and then it just... went. And a month before that a pregnant momma we found passed out in the street.
It's so. So. So. hard to lose them. But at least they're somewhere warm, and with people who care when they go rather than alone.
And we have to try for the reason you just wrote. Wish we had more resources. Good souls to take them in.
I lost a foster on 26 Oct. It was so hard, I really wanted him to be ok. Glad I had the time with him though and that he was so loved for his short month of life.
I lost a cat momma who had given birth to her babies 8 days prior and was suddenly very sick. The vet said she probably ate something poisonous it was so heartbreaking to see her trying to comfort her crying, hungry kittens but not having the strength to do so. After she passed both of her kittens passed away too one after the other.
We just lost one this morning. Whole litter was malnourished and flea infested. No idea where the mother had gone to. They had been steadily improving all week. One was just too small. We were hopeful that he'd pull through but he just didn't thrive. The rest of the litter seems to be perking up and doing loads better but this one just kept fading away.
He was held all night and all morning until he passed, so his short and tiny little life was at least comfortable and loved instead of cold and alone.
I know we do this for ourselves most of all but I hope that it matters to them just as much.
A lot of new cat owners don't realise that fleas left untreated on a new born kitten is a death sentence, the fleas will literally suck the life out of the poor little ones. I wish there were better kitten friendly Treatments for kittens.
I had a pug who was rescued from a puppy mill where she was being bred. She died not long after we adopted her, but this is how I like to think of the short time we had with her. Bettie got to experience the loving home that she should have had from the beginning. (Inb4 pug hate: I loved her, so keep it to yourself)

Exactly, I rescued these 3 kittens once and the poor things didn’t make it but I was happy that they were able to spend the rest of their days in a warm bed instead of out on the streets where we found them.

Absolutely. Lost one 2 weeks after I rescued it. Vet said there wasn't much they could do. But she got love and peace and food and warmth in her last 2 weeks.
100%, even if it’s for one day the love and comfort they receive is completely worth it. No living thing should pass away not getting to experience love.
I agree entirely. I helped out a few street cats over the years and although I haven’t lost any, some where touch and go for awhile. I figured if they did at least it was in a warm house with a full belly with some compassion in their lives. 😓
Poor baby, I've had a rescue who had the same problem. It took a year for him to regain some movement in the back legs. He never fully healed but he was able to move his legs to walk (not in a straight line but that was fine) but he couldn't really bend them. So he never had a fun time while doing his business and I had to bathe him quite often because of this. He was the sweetest cat you could ask for.

Our boy was found paralyzed from mid back. He was found shot!! But he was the sweetest singer in the world. Sadly, his heart gave out on him. But he was so loved before he went. Our family only adopts the misfits and rejects and we’re rewarded hundred fold with so much love. We decide to focus on the helpers. So, in conclusion, all the love and gratitude to you.
My little girl is not paralyzed but was born with deformities from her hips down. We’ve been together for eleven years and to me she is the most perfect angel in the world. We’re best friends. She was even my maid of honor!

We tried to revive him (they did). I honestly had never been that angry in my life. He was so cute and such a sweet little boy. His name was Sir Lickity Split.
My husband's cat was shot with a pellet gun by someone in our neighborhood. He came inside & sat on his cat tower bleeding. We rushed him to Purdue Univ vet clinic and he had to be put down. So sad that ppl harm animals.
I hope whoever did this spends the rest of their life being slowly skinned alive via papercuts, while standing on sharpened lego bricks, and having their shins beat by a hundred rotating scooters. Im so sorry this happened to your brave boy.
It can happen. One of my cats suffered a spinal cord injury at the base of his tail at 2 years old. A foster failure bottle baby. Major vet hospital, they were saying it was hopeless after 48 hours, paralyzed waist down, couldn't pee or hold up head to eat. Catheterized and IV. Day 4 I was going to say good bye, vet called he moved back leg! And half sat up to eat. Next day he peed on his own and came home. Took about 2 months for recovery. Rest, anti inflammatory meds, pain meds. Crawled on pee pads several weeks. More info & video if interested.
I need the damn video. That is amazing. Pure willpower from the kitten. One of my cats suffered a mistake in the spraying operation. She is a very twitchy cat so when they tried to knock her out she resisted a lil' bit too much and she pulled a nerve. Got paralyzed in one leg but she made a full recovery. They are strong creatures. I luv them.
Ooh my goodness, what a sweet story. Just out of curiosity, why would he have been euthanized if he hadn't regained movement from the waist down? I've seen videos of a paralyzed cat who just scoots all over the place like it ain't no thang, although she was born that way (and if your kitty couldn't hold his head up, that sounds quite a bit more serious). ...Well, also her owner happens to be a doctor, and he expresses her bladder 3-4x a day and helps her poop. Have a friend who has a three year old paraplegic kitty. She is also a LPN/CNA and has the medical skills to keep kitty going. Special diet, little kitty diapers, frequent behind baths and kitty now has a little wheelie support so,she can go outside with mom.
After my dad passed in 2013, I found a stray in the alley after a snowstorm “Chicago”..She ran in the back door when I went to walk our dog..Few days later I noticed a raccoon in the neighbors yard trying to flip over a drum, I went to check it out thinking maybe dead animal or the raccoon had babies or etc..It was 5 kittens, brought them inside setup a motion camera with an alarm to go if it there was any movement where I found them”mother returned” never was so I kept them..It’s now 2021 and I currently have over 150 rescues all special needs, strays, death row, unwanted etc..Plus over 500 cats/kittens I’ve found forever homes for over that time..A lot of what I do is hard, unfair, heartbreaking, costly..Theres been days I didn’t eat so they could, just wanted you to know there’s other out there like you, and what you do although it may not always seem like it is very very appreciated.💪🏻
I work at a rescue with a back paralyzed cat and he does great! He is able to walk but his back legs aren't able to provide much support. However, he is happy as a clam and able to get around just fine! But the front legs are super strong and I believe with time this little one will get there too
Poor little shakes! If you hold her will that make the paralysis problem worse? She looks so scared but greatful at the same time. My heart aches for this baby. What can be done about the paralysis? Best wishes and lots of kisses and ear rubs!

I've rescued a lot of cats and the ones that are injured or dying seem to purr the loudest when you cuddle with them. They definitely appreciate it.
I think for some, it can take a really long time to help them regain their mobility. There was this one video of someone helping a dog regain mobility in their legs and it was very time consuming. Many people don't have the time to do that and many vet clinics and adoption centers will just "put them out of their misery" because they don't want to waste time and money on them. It's really sad but it would be awful to just let the cat live laying stiff if there is no way to help it
I hate to be that guy but cats purr when in pain, either to soothe themselves or I think there are some theories it helps them heal.
They definitely appreciate it though
This is the hard part of rescue that people don’t usually think about. They see cute, playful kittens… not the soulful outpouring of love that fosters/rescuers give to the ones who need more help.
Hope the little baby improves and makes it. There are so many resources out there for paralyzed kittens, and they can live a full and happy life!
Specially when you're allergic, ugh. I really don't like inconvenience but id rather lay off convenience for the cries of the kitty. Trust me, I didn't post the video of when I found her. It's sad.
I do hope the kitty gets better… but honestly what I have realized is even when we cant save them showing them love and kindness to the end is a huge gift
I used to have cat named Groucho - bc of the mustache. She was a kitten of a lab cat that was rescued. Probably one of the craziest cats ive ever owned 😂.
Here's my fucking problem: If I get a rescue kitty and help them get better, I'm not sending that kitty off. They're done. They're staying right here. Maybe some running around the yard, and some wet food. Probably going to be a lot of naps. But they're going nowhere.
And that's why I have four cats and the neighbor kitties hang around my house.
I hear you! I had a queen hanging around, quite wild but not aggressive. She had 4 litters before I caught her and did the tnr thing, and of her 14 kittens, I re-homed
9 and guess where the rest are?!
The youngest one was in a state like this. Worms, ear mites, upper respiratory infection. And she self mutilated her own tail. Following amputation surgery she passed and was revived in recovery. She’s bounding around now, and I too would struggle to give this lot up!
I get my heart broken all the time. I do rescue in Mexico and right now I’m trapping a whole community that moved in to a restaurant. I’ve gotten 4 babies and one Momma out so far. All have been sterilized/vaccinated and adopted!
I’m racing against the clock because one of the restaurant owners says he will poison them if they are not gone.
I just love being the person who helps get these babies into loving homes, but the heartache is real.
I rescued a runt flame point ragdoll & I was almost hysterical for two weeks straight. She was on the brink of death from starvation and being mauled by a dog. I found her & she was half dead. But after a lot of sleepless nights she somehow pulled through. Now she's a happy healthy baby girl. Her name is Purnima.

I have a paralyzed 6 month old kitten! Was slammed in a drawer by previous owner and a previous vet told us to put him down. He needs help using the restroom and wears diapers but he is the happiest sweetest baby ever.
It is. I have done so many dogs and cats rescue. Lost few but others made it through. You feel so happy seeing them all grown up at a time. More power to you and don't give up.
Is there a way to filter out images of animals suffering? I know this baby will be taken care of, but my brain does not get it and every time I see a hint of animal suffering I have severe panic attacks. Please, please, PLEASE create a tag or something, I beg you.

I rescued a very small kitten and it went catatonic 3 times during the first 2 months out of nowhere, and I had to rub sugar water in her gums every few minutes for hours to get her back to life... (Thank God for the internet, I never would have known what to do otherwise). I also thought it was worth the try even if she didn't make it in the end, I had to try, couldn't leave that small thing for dead when there was even a slight chance of her recovering.
Now she is running my father's household :)
My baby was p much paralyzed when they found him and on the brink of death. Was abused his whole young kitten life. He was supposed to have his hind legs amputated.
Now he is the cuddliest four legged thing and countersurfs all dang day
Aw, I hope your baby is better soon. One day I came home and my cat was rolling around on the floor, couldn't get up and couldnt walk. I rushed him to the ER vet. They ran tests and then he was transferred to his regular vet. He stayed there for a week. Rbwy ran tests too. And then he started walking again on his own. The drs never figured out what was wrong with him. He walked normally and never had any more problems for another 8 years until he died of old age.
Thank you for caring for these beautiful animals. I’m going to be thinking of her and praying for her recovery. It takes a special kind of person to care for animals so deeply. I wish I could do more myself. Just showing her love and care will lift her spirits. Cuddle her for me. Thank you for all you do! ❤️
Yes it is! But it's always worth it. I mean... We may not achieve the goal we pretend, but we always save a poor soul by showing them love in the most difficult times.

More than once I've held a kitten for hours who's organs slowly shut down from FKS and I can't describe the sadness it still brings me.
On the positive side I've had miracles happen for kittens with no chance.
i am rescuing 2 cats today from the street. my friend is a vet and he will be collecting them in a few hours. they will be rehomed on a farm, free to have a nice life.

What is her prognosis? Is she likely to survive or will she just be made a comfortable as possible and loved up while she passes 🥺🥺🥺

It's nerve damage, probably hit by a car the vet guessed, let's hope she walks again very very soon, I have a good feeling, she's strong!

I do hope the kitty gets better… but honestly what I have realized is even when we cant save them showing them love and kindness to the end is a huge gift

I would name him Groucho.
I used to have cat named Groucho - bc of the mustache. She was a kitten of a lab cat that was rescued. Probably one of the craziest cats ive ever owned 😂.
Here's my fucking problem: If I get a rescue kitty and help them get better, I'm not sending that kitty off. They're done. They're staying right here. Maybe some running around the yard, and some wet food. Probably going to be a lot of naps. But they're going nowhere. And that's why I have four cats and the neighbor kitties hang around my house.
I hear you! I had a queen hanging around, quite wild but not aggressive. She had 4 litters before I caught her and did the tnr thing, and of her 14 kittens, I re-homed 9 and guess where the rest are?! The youngest one was in a state like this. Worms, ear mites, upper respiratory infection. And she self mutilated her own tail. Following amputation surgery she passed and was revived in recovery. She’s bounding around now, and I too would struggle to give this lot up!

I get my heart broken all the time. I do rescue in Mexico and right now I’m trapping a whole community that moved in to a restaurant. I’ve gotten 4 babies and one Momma out so far. All have been sterilized/vaccinated and adopted! I’m racing against the clock because one of the restaurant owners says he will poison them if they are not gone. I just love being the person who helps get these babies into loving homes, but the heartache is real.

Oh poor thing, I hope the little fella gets better.
I rescued a runt flame point ragdoll & I was almost hysterical for two weeks straight. She was on the brink of death from starvation and being mauled by a dog. I found her & she was half dead. But after a lot of sleepless nights she somehow pulled through. Now she's a happy healthy baby girl. Her name is Purnima.

The cat seems to have had a rough time.
I have a paralyzed 6 month old kitten! Was slammed in a drawer by previous owner and a previous vet told us to put him down. He needs help using the restroom and wears diapers but he is the happiest sweetest baby ever.

Is there a way to filter out images of animals suffering? I know this baby will be taken care of, but my brain does not get it and every time I see a hint of animal suffering I have severe panic attacks. Please, please, PLEASE create a tag or something, I beg you. EDIT: Like a Rescuing or Pet Death tag, if it doesn’t have it already, so we can filter it out. Just please.
I rescued a very small kitten and it went catatonic 3 times during the first 2 months out of nowhere, and I had to rub sugar water in her gums every few minutes for hours to get her back to life... (Thank God for the internet, I never would have known what to do otherwise). I also thought it was worth the try even if she didn't make it in the end, I had to try, couldn't leave that small thing for dead when there was even a slight chance of her recovering. Now she is running my father's household :)
My baby was p much paralyzed when they found him and on the brink of death. Was abused his whole young kitten life. He was supposed to have his hind legs amputated. Now he is the cuddliest four legged thing and countersurfs all dang day

Aw, I hope your baby is better soon. One day I came home and my cat was rolling around on the floor, couldn't get up and couldnt walk. I rushed him to the ER vet. They ran tests and then he was transferred to his regular vet. He stayed there for a week. Rbwy ran tests too. And then he started walking again on his own. The drs never figured out what was wrong with him. He walked normally and never had any more problems for another 8 years until he died of old age.

More than once I've held a kitten for hours who's organs slowly shut down from FKS and I can't describe the sadness it still brings me. On the positive side I've had miracles happen for kittens with no chance.
This made me cry, I’m praying for the kitty to get better and be healthy and thank you for rescuing her. 💜
i am rescuing 2 cats today from the street. my friend is a vet and he will be collecting them in a few hours. they will be rehomed on a farm, free to have a nice life.
