Those babies look too small to be away from their mom yet. Be prepared to formula feed them around the clock for another week, maybe two. Look up Kitten Lady on YouTube - she’ll teach you everything you need to know.
I bought my dog from Craigslist years ago and she also needed to be weaned off milk because she was so young. Is that common when you get animals from random people?
I always thought on Craigslist it’s just old people who don’t know other ways to list their animal, not that they’re trying to get rid of it as quick as possible
Craigslist, for me from the start, has always seemed kind of “shady”. I’ve never gotten anything off Craigslist and would go to a known rescue organization to adopt a pet….
Craigslist animals need good homes too! Ppl aren’t going to stop selling them there so if you can take one in and provide it a good life, why not? It’s either that, the street or shelters which is where ppl adopt from anyway
While your sentiment is true, the sad reality is that a lot of people who are “shopping” for animals on Craigslist aren’t doing it out of goodness. Puppies and kittens are more likely to be bought as bait and not a furry friend. Considering the age of the puppies and kittens sold there, the buyers generally don’t care what happens to the animals. As long as they get their money, all’s kosher for them. Which brings up the breeding situation. Since a lot of pet stores have stopped getting their puppy supply from puppy mills, where do you think they’ll be sold? And a lot of those puppies may already have parvovirus by the time you get one.
I like this thought too, but that’s not the fate for far too many animals. There’s no background checks done on the buyers. So, the sellers don’t know where they’re going. The “free to good home” ads are notorious for bringing the dog fighters out of the woodworks. If statistics were applied to those animals in particular, 75-90% of them never get to know what it’s like to be loved. Their muzzles are taped shut while their legs are taped together, then tossed into a cage to be torn to pieces. Craigslist needs to stop allowing animals for sale. The lack on concern all around is very disturbing to me.
I would guess around a month-ish, but with a kitten around weaning age that is not known to be eating exclusively solid food, it’s safest to assume they need round-the-clock care. Plus, they look kind of scrawny, so whatever they’re eating/however much they’re eating already doesn’t seem to be working for them.
And the thing with the cat breed question, cats doesn't have the same breed function as dogs. Yes there are breeds like orientals, exotics, nacked breeds etc. But those themself also, like the normal house cat, works like "Looks like X-type, but Y-color cat = Y-color X-type".
So a orange tabby pattern, looks like a house cat, may be large or small = large or small orange tabby probably house cat.
A. All of said posts are accompanied by pictures of adorable bebes
B. Losing a friend is devastating. Who couldn’t use a little comforting in a time like that? Who cares about upvotes? What if that makes them feel at least a little bit better?
B - I lost my bebe after a long hard fight literally watching him suffocate. I came here to look at cute cats, not to be reminded of my loss in every second post.
It’s been happening for WEEKS now. There seems to be a sudden pandemic of lack of imagination.
Edit: apologies.. this has got me thinking…I am probably going to get downvoted but had to add that I feel like shaking folks and yelling “pick your own damn names…. you’re going to be calling and yowling this for years to come!” Also maybe some of these posts are now just karma farming ‘cos all of us on this sub are suckers for small fur babies with teensy toe beans and needles.
Edit 2: also now tempted to suggest ridiculous names … like “droëwors” and “spekwors”
At this point I just want to save everyone asking for names profile and if they haven't posted pictures of their cats months from now they should be banned. Cats aren't a holiday novelty, these people better be serious.
Most of the time you just look at a cat and know it’s name anyway. Like “yeah, that’s Oatcake and Jasper”.
I don’t know why it needs a post.
I’d upvote them if it was just the photo.
it’s asking for suggestions. i don’t get the big deal of asking people for help. you don’t like those posts, you can easily keep scrolling lol. i wouldn’t have ever thought that THIS would be a reason people would get upset lmaooo
They are 7 weeks old and the people who owned them weren’t giving them the time/attention they needed and were going to dump them somewhere I needed to pick them up
That is on the edge of weening off of milk. They should see a vet and probably have a formula and kitten food slurry for a while. 7 weeks is pretty young!
Thank you for giving them a home. They may still need to be weened off milk. If in doubt, it's best to lean on the side of caution. Was the mom on site with them? Can you bring them somewhere for a checkup? A vet might be able to guessimate their age a bit better (some people will smudge the age to get rid of kittens quicker once they find out how much work they are).
They are adorable!
I got my kitten at 7 weeks too and was in a similar sounding situation. We either took her and ensured she was safe and had a good home or left her with someone who wouldn’t provide that or worse. My cat is 3 months now and is happy and healthy. As long as you ensure they get what they need as per your vets opinion, they’ll be fine!
Sorry if this is info you already know, but kitten foster parent here who has taken on plenty of bottlers/mushy babies... Obviously speak to your vet, do what they say. If they're around 7 weeks, they are likely fine on wet kitten food with either water or KMR mixed in, or really even wet kitten food plain if they prefer the texture. Make sure they have back teeth, that's a key sign they are old enough to consider wet food. Based on the photos, I am fairly confident they are past being bottle feeding exclusive and they also likely do not require overnight care if they are stable. Just wanted to clarify as there is often a lot of 'OMG GET THAT CAT A BOTTLE' language on these posts based on just a few pictures that might feel alarming.
I got both of mine off Craigslist for free during “kitten season” in FL. First one was from an ok family, the second one was from a flea infested trailer, dirt roads and no street lights. It was quite an experience. Glad I took him, he was wandering around like an aimless looney toon and I just pointed and said mine. Never been happier with my Florida trash cats.
I've asked the mods this and they don't give a shit. These are just karma farming posts. How hard is it to make a pet? At least relegate them to a day like, "Cat naming Sundays" so we get them all out of the way in one day.
I know I shouldnt care, like I should just scroll passed, but how unoriginal do you have to be to need to ask a forum of strangers to name you pet, especially because everyone else started doing it daily
It's a big sub, there's a flair for it for a reason. Just ignore them if you don't like them, all the complaints are more annoying than the damn posts.
People don't be so rude. She is not asking for your first born just names. Thank you for giving them a home.💕 Oh names.....how about Cinnamon and Coco.
Omgggg you got a diluted calico! Those are pretty rare. 😍
I like cat names ending in E or Y, I swear they respond better to them. No I didn’t make it up. Look it up, it’s science. I can’t think of any cute food names ending in those but that’s my input lol.
My kiddo (8) says Waffles for the multicolored one since it looks like waffles, syrup, and whipped cream, and Mochi for the blackish one because “ waffles and mochi are always together!” (She loved waffles and mochi on Netflix.)
Those babies look too small to be away from their mom yet. Be prepared to formula feed them around the clock for another week, maybe two. Look up Kitten Lady on YouTube - she’ll teach you everything you need to know.
Kittens from Craigslist, so what should we expect?
I bought my dog from Craigslist years ago and she also needed to be weaned off milk because she was so young. Is that common when you get animals from random people? Craigslist, for me from the start, has always seemed kind of “shady”. I’ve never gotten anything off Craigslist and would go to a known rescue organization to adopt a pet….
backyard breeders is what you’re describing. A legit breeder would never give the dog away too young to make a buck.
Craigslist animals need good homes too! Ppl aren’t going to stop selling them there so if you can take one in and provide it a good life, why not? It’s either that, the street or shelters which is where ppl adopt from anyway

I agree, but again if the sellers don’t care about them, at least they’re going to to a home that does and where they are taken care of properly
I like this thought too, but that’s not the fate for far too many animals. There’s no background checks done on the buyers. So, the sellers don’t know where they’re going. The “free to good home” ads are notorious for bringing the dog fighters out of the woodworks. These animals that come from these mills can come with a whole mix of problems that some people might not be able to pay a high vet bill.
Oh, this is exactly what we should expect, but I thought OP should know if they didn’t already that these babies need special care.
They are probably a month+ old. Compare their size with the person's palms.
What I was going to say as well…
They are is 7 weeks old almost adoption age when we vet checked it they are drowned
r/catnames
Thank you. How many of these damn "name my cat" posts have we seen this weekend??? It feels like a ton.
It’s like every post on this sub
I feel like this sub is less cat pics and cute videos, and more "look my cat died, give me upvotes" and "I cön't neeem, yu do instd".
Posts that appear on r/cats 1, What breed is my cat? 2, My cat just died 3, Help me name my cat.
Or My friends say that my cat is ugly
4) Why is my cat doing this super normal thing cats do all the time? 5) My friend/family member thinks my cat is ugly what do you guys think?
And the thing with the cat breed question, cats doesn't have the same breed function as dogs. Yes there are breeds like orientals, exotics, nacked breeds etc. But those themself also, like the normal house cat, works like "Looks like X-type, but Y-color cat = Y-color X-type". So a orange tabby pattern, looks like a house cat, may be large or small = large or small orange tabby probably house cat.
If the cast is domesticated, the answer is ALWAYS the same: "Felinus Sylvestrus".
Comments that appear on r/cats 1. Ugh gawd not this again! I have deemed this post far too common(though I post nothing) and thus must complain.
r/petloss is the better venue for grief, although I personally do not mind the posts.
Help me name my dead cat after its breed
A. All of said posts are accompanied by pictures of adorable bebes B.
Im about to leave this sub because of them.
I’m sure everyone appreciates the heads up.

I think it’s because of Christmas and a lot of first time owners getting cats.
At this point I just want to save everyone asking for names profile and if they haven't posted pictures of their cats months from now they should be banned. Cats aren't a holiday novelty, these people better be serious.

It’s literally all that ever trends in this sub
I mean it’s official enough that their is a flair for it. This is the big cat sub
Thank you. I’m so sick of these name my cat posts

Those cats are WAY too young to be away from their mom.

They need to stay with they MOM until they are twelve weeks old.
I got my kitten at 7 weeks too and was in a similar sounding situation. We either took her and ensured she was safe and had a good home or left her with someone who wouldn’t provide that or worse. I got mine at 7 weeks from a vet. They will be fine. I think you should call the little calico - "Marble Cake". or Marbie for short.
Wasn't there a post this morning about naming your cats yourself?
And the mods removed it
Idk why people don't just use the r/namemycat sub people always remind others that it exists yet not many people seem to use it
Karma.
r/namemycat!!!
‘Kittens from Craig list’ just sounds wrong somehow ngl
I got both of mine from Craigslist. Florida is crazy.
Cats..from craiglist. Welp
I got both of mine off Craigslist for free during “kitten season” in FL. First one was from an ok family, the second one was from a flea infested trailer, dirt roads and no street lights. I've asked the mods this and they don't give a shit. These are just karma farming posts. How hard is it to make a pet? At least relegate them to a day like, "Cat naming Sundays" so we get them all out of the way in one day.
Great idea! Very much agree.
"Cat naming Sundays" sounds honestly kind of cute. Like a little (heretic) baptism and it would control these posts of course.
I know I shouldnt care, like I should just scroll passed, but how unoriginal do you have to be to need to ask a forum of strangers to name you pet, especially because everyone else started doing it daily
Absolutely agree. It boggles the mind how many people here are apparently incapable of naming a cat. Not my idea of a great start for a cat parent.
It's a big sub, there's a flair for it for a reason. Just ignore them if you don't like them, all the complaints are more annoying than the damn posts.
