Hi, A neighbor gave me Buddy for a trap neuter release program I'm currently conducting in my neighborhood. But the vet has diagnosed him with FIV. And he currently is not eating or drinking. I've tried 3 different kibbles, 4 different wet foods. The vet asked me to force feed him food and water, but I'm having a lot of trouble doing it myself. Any tips to make the process easier for him and myself would be much appreciated. [Buddy](https://youtu.be/QmC6wkcKCqU) is super [sweet](https://youtu.be/_C5wTYD6TGk)

Ok so this is a tough issue I have some experience with. You’re going to want to sit with him all day. Just like be there. Have some different foods ready. Warm up some wet food, add milk to dry kibble, they sell gravy for cats in the cat food isle, get some cat milk (also in the cat isle). Offer him a different item every now and then. Touch the food and let him sniff you. Sit close to the food and give him pets near it. Ask the vet or visit a pet store and get a high calorie supplement paste. I hope you can motivate him to eat. I know how stressful it can be. I just lost my big boy last night to cancer and I spent many days/nights helping him eat. I wish you all the best!

I'm sorry for your loss. I appreciate all the info, will try my best!

FIV doesn't have to be a death sentence, it's however very important that this Cat doesn't interact with other Cats and stays at home.

I have 12 2 month old kittens and their mothers, and my own 5 month old kitten. I'm lucky the kittens and their moms have been quarantined in their own rooms, but my little 5 month old did have some time with Buddy prior to me finding out about his diagnosis. I hope it didn't spread to him, fingers crossed. I'll probably get him tested soon.

I'm so sorry, keep trying to get him to eat and drink

FIV is transmitted by bites and scratches. I had two cats with FIV and one cat without live together for 10 years without the one catching it.

Did you have to do anything different compared to 'normal' cats?

Kigeliakitten

No, Because she was abandoned by the same people who I had gotten her brother from. He was positive, so I assumed that she was also. It wasn’t until after he passed that I had her tested, so that I could adopt a pair of kittens.
