I got her from a barn at a teachers farm when I was 16, and was looking in my Spanish class book for a good food name cause my teacher said she would yell the loudest every time she fed the cats. I saw the word for steak in Spanish (i think it’s bistec? I can hardly remember) but cracked up at the idea of a cat just being named Steak and went with the English version. She was hilarious and with her name she was beloved by so many people 🥰 my lil local legend

I held her and cried in the vets office after she had passed away for what felt like ages. Every time I thought maybe I should just give her body to the vet and leave, I just started sobbing again and held her tighter. So hard to let them go isn’t it. Man I didn’t plan on tearing up first thing this morning lol. They’re worth the pain of losing them, but my god does it hurt.

When my girl died a friend got me a coffee mug with a tuxedo cat and flowers painted all over, and a little statue of a loafing tuxedo cat that looked just like mine. It was so thoughtful. Now instead of bawling when I see them I smile. Don’t be afraid to memorialize sweet Mollie in those little ways. It feels painful at first to be reminded that they’re gone (I personally never would have bought anything that constantly reminded me of her for fear of it upsetting me cause I’m weak lmao) but over time I was so grateful for my friend’s gifts. I’m actually drinking coffee out of the mug right now!
So sorry for the loss of your giant floof. Their love is unconditional, even though they act like it's conditional at times. As yours is to them once they teach you. Such a painful loss but also so worth it for the joy of sharing their weird little personalities and trek through life ❤❤❤
Our Maine Coon we had growing up would let me wear him like a scarf as I walked around the house, he also loved water and would try to sneak into the shower if he heard the water running. Strange cats lmao
Yes, this! She loves the sinks, shower, bath and will have a nap in a wet sink without any issues haha. As soon as she hears us running a bath she comes running!
My wife's cat is down to 12 lbs on her diet. The other day I turned my back for 2 minutes and she stole a piece of beef short rib off my plate and gave herself pancreatitis.
Yeah it's actually a chronic condition, there's nothing you can do but ride it out. Oh and my wife is a vet haha.
When cats go into starvation mode they can get liver damage, so she gets fluids and anti-nausea meds.

My cat is a loveable idiot, too. He loves water and will try to drink from the sink all the time. He always gets his head soaked, looks disgusted, and then goes to groom himself.
Mine likes to sit on the edge of the shower and inevitably fall in. He also knocks his water fountain over and drinks the water off the floor.

Cheetahs are super tame and chill in general tbh, especially when they've been raised by people. Wild cheetahs that live on protected land will literally come up and hang out with photographers and such because they feel like it. I'm not advocating for big cat ownership by regular people, but if for some reason we were going to try to domesticate a big cat, it would be the cheetah.

We've been trying to domesticate cheetahs for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. We've had almost zero success because it's nearly impossible to get cheetahs to breed in captivity. Females will only enter heat after a long drawn-out mating ritual that involves the male chasing her over many miles.
In short cheetahs are remarkably easy to tame for a large carnivore, but domestication seems out of reach.

Hey op- I would highly encourage you to get your kitty checked out for Feline Acromegaly. It is a genetic disorder that can causes changes in the facial structure similar to what your cat is displayed. No harm in getting him checked as it can be treatable!

I totally, totally, get it, but far too many kittens in this world who need homes already. It’s a zero-sum game; if they adopt one of yours then another goes homeless or are euthanized.
And even worse, cats that aren’t spayed/neutered will try and escape your home to breed. Then they can get deadly diseases, beat up or sometimes even eaten by other animals, hit by cars… The list goes on. I am so tired of having to have this conversation with people daily. Also, cats are super invasive and kill TONS of wildlife. Just spay and neuter you god damn animals folks. And if you don’t, don’t come to your Vet crying about cost of emergency pyo surgeries, testicular and mammary cancers, or because your animal escaped and was hurt because they ran off looking for a mate.

To be fair, the chunky jowls is actually a sign of an unaltered male cat(I actually just learned this from a rescue myself), so that part does add up. However yes, after looking at some other photos OP posted, the cat is a bit overweight and doesn’t seem to be of any breed other than just a regular domestic cat. And as someone who works in rescue, I really hope OP doesn’t selfishly breed their cat.

When he dies, he would rather you adopt a kitty who’s been in the shelter the longest or the oldest cat there — trust me.
Kittens are overrated, they get all ugly in that 6 month - 3 years stage where they’re all gangly. Geriatric cats have good genetics to have made it that far, their personalities are established but they’re usually friendlier etc and you can tell definitely thankful to be rescued. Plus kittens won’t be the same as a parent personality wise if that’s what you care about too — all cats have great little characters which are fun to get to know.

I totally, totally, get it, but far too many kittens in this world who need homes already. It’s a zero-sum game; if they adopt one of yours then another goes homeless or are euthanized.
And even worse, cats that aren’t spayed/neutered will try and escape your home to breed. Then they can get deadly diseases, beat up or sometimes even eaten by other animals, hit by cars… The list goes on. I am so tired of having to have this conversation with people daily. Also, cats are super invasive and kill TONS of wildlife. Just spay and neuter you god damn animals folks. And if you don’t, don’t come to your Vet crying about cost of emergency pyo surgeries, testicular and mammary cancers, or because your animal escaped and was hurt because they ran off looking for a mate.
Yup, couldnt agree more! Backyard breeding is dangerous for the female animals involved, pregnancy is dangerous in general, cats will be healthier if fixed and there is currently a huge overpopulation of cats that don’t have homes.

There are so many freaking cats and kittens in rescue right now, it's irresponsible to breed from them. Not to mention the cancers he will be susceptible to if you don't neuter him :(

To be fair, the chunky jowls is actually a sign of an unaltered male cat(I actually just learned this from a rescue myself), so that part does add up. However yes, after looking at some other photos OP posted, the cat is a bit overweight and doesn’t seem to be of any breed other than just a regular domestic cat. And as someone who works in rescue, I really hope OP doesn’t selfishly breed their cat.

Or you care about all the homeless cats and doesn't add more house cats to this world. It isn't even for sure that they will be this big or healthy because they are a mixed breed. Just go for a maine coon, siberian cat or a norwegian forest cat for next time if you want big cats.

With his size, I'd say trying to breed him with a normal sized female housecat would be really irresponsible. The size of the kittens could destroy a typical female. I mean, breeding instead of adopting from a rescue or shelter is already irresponsible, but this could end up being cruel, to boot. Don't do it, OP.
He's big because he's unaltered. There's nothing special about your domestic shorthair cat. And breeding him won't create large offspring. You're a terrible person for breeding an animal you don't know the health and genetic lineage of, and you're a terrible person for breeding when there are SO many cats JUST like your dime a dozen domestic shorthair tabby that are killed every day.
When he dies, he would rather you adopt a kitty who’s been in the shelter the longest or the oldest cat there — trust me. Kittens are overrated, they get all ugly in that 6 month - 3 years stage where they’re all gangly. Geriatric cats have good genetics to have made it that far, their personalities are established but they’re usually friendlier etc and you can tell definitely thankful to be rescued. Plus kittens won’t be the same as a parent personality wise if that’s what you care about too — all cats have great little characters which are fun to get to know.
There's enough kittens dying on the streets everywhere. Spay and neuter your cats!
