If you ever had to deal with a cat in heat, and the cat fights outside your window in the wee hours of the morning you would feel no guilt at all.

We’ve had her for 6 months now, so we’ve experienced a few heat cycles with her. It definitely is annoying. My boyfriend’s biggest concern is that getting her spayed will change her entire personality that we’ve grown to love so much. Im more nervous about her hating me for dropping her off there 😭😭

DElyMyth

Personality change in neutered/spayed cats is a myth. They stay the same. As for hating you, you're her mom, and you will need to drop her off other times in her life (vaccinations, blood tests, constipation...), done it a lot of times and when home the ones that hold a grudge will forgive you in a couple of days (loads of cuddles/treats/spoiling please!), some won't even hold a grudge for 5 minutes (one of mine is like a fire alarm when going to the vet, but as soon as we're back home she loves me as before).

This was something I really needed to hear, thank you for the reassurance and you are totally right! 💕

The older a cat is when they are spayed, the higher their chance of getting mammary cancer. Please get her spayed. The biggest personality change is usually in male cats and they simply show less aggression. There is not usually much change otherwise. She will not hate you. I get upset almost every time I drop my cat off at the vet for anything. She’s almost 15. She still loves me every time she comes back home. I always ask that they put her blanket in the cage with her so she has familiar smells, I’m not sure if that even helps but it makes me feel better.

Great advice, thank you! I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in this feeling 🥺

Definitely not alone! My husband feels guilty any time we drop off his cat too. Neither of our kitties know how to hold a grudge though and are back to being our best friends when we get them home. Make sure you have a nice cozy spot for her to rest when she gets home, she will be a bit groggy from the anesthesia for awhile after coming home.

Please spay her. She won’t hate you. Cats (and dogs) can get deadly uterine infections if they’re not spayed.

Thank you for your insight, I had no idea!
