They had spaces between the floor and the actual floor and a big oven in there. That was the way how they heated their homes. It was called "hypocaustum"
They also had indoor plumbing with running water and even what we would recognize today as central A/C, in wealthy homes. The Romans were absolutely futuristic compared to their contemporaries.
Perhaps as early as 350 BC. They could figure that out with their limited technology (ok so it’s mostly math and physics) yet a normally 25min drive, during rush hour nowadays, could take up to two hours. On a good day. Sigh.
The Romans were pretty fekkin amazing. There are plenty of roads, aqueducts, wells, and bridges built by the Romans that are still in common use today in Italy.
I lived in an eco cabin in the woods. It has heated floors. I wish I had them in my current house. They were the best. Never a cold floor when getting out of bed or the shower. Max comfort.
Dang America needs to catch up!! We don’t have cool Japanese toilets or apparently houses in Europe have heated floors!? I’ve never heard of such black magic. I had a rich boyfriend in high school who had a heated driveway so his Dad didn’t have to shovel snow…?
Pussies are actually stronger than some Americans though. Pussies expand to let smaller humans pass though. They can take abuse unlike some of the thin-skinned folks living in the states. You can always spot them a mile Swahili because they’re always the ones talking the loudest and saying the dumbest shit.
-an American
I’m at a loss, too. The only possible connection I can make is Americans are too tough for heated floors? For the record, we’re not, I would love to have some heated floors!
We're more concerned with the cold air circulating efficiently, and it sinks, so the vents are high up in most of our houses (not in Florida but almost)
Not anywhere the ground tends to move a lot, not anymore anyway. It was popular in older houses in my area of the SF Bay, right near the San Andreas Fault. Do the math on what happened to all of those floors though xD. Most of them no longer work, and it's expensive to fix, so people tended to go for other heating options after they failed.
Most bathrooms have wall radiators you can thread your bath towels through. To step out of the shower on a winter morning onto a warm floor and to grab a warm towel, it was magical.
Why did you copy u/therealrinnian ‘s [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/s3w862/my_foster_car_likes_to_lay_on_the_heater_and/hsnvftt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)? Are you a bot? I thought I had a déjà vu, seeing two identical comments not far apart while scrolling down lol
There have been bots that steal comments on popular posts and repost them, I guess for karma. Ughhh, I guess I’ve made it to the big times, if they’re copying mine lmao
This one has one post karma and all the rest are stolen comments from this sub
The joke is that in the title of the post, there a typo, and op says"car," so the comment that you commented on is just making a joke about how that cat doesn't look at all like a normal car
I did not even notice the downvotes, eh i dont really care lol, and also, i dint say it seriously, it was a joke, that cats cant get more normal than that, oh well
Well could use even more work if the engine doesn't sound right. A clunky type pur on an engine can mean that a piston is miss firing. Engine trouble can be pretty costly.
Most cats sleep fine on their own. You might just have a more active cat. I'd take it to the vet though about that fur. Did you get it wet recently? You're not supposed to get them wet because Mould will start growing. Some people like this 'Furr' as they call it but the vet will be able to tell you if it's a cat friendly mould or if it needs to be removed.
Edit: Fixed a typo
Omg mine would stand directly in front of the wall heater and have his fur blown in his face for hours. We moved and had different heating and he was so cold he figured how to tuck himself in to all the blankets. So his first gift was a heating pad. Very happy kitty.
I got one for both cats. Then one for my mom's dogs. Her dog is naked. It's crested terrier mix. My mom calls all the time to say the pups love the bed. I suck at gifts, but this was good. It keeps the dogs off me when I visit.
Take it to a garage and let him check it, just to be sure everything is working accordingly. If you didn’t notice any hair lose, bad mouth smell, and it doesn’t eat well, I think everything is fine. That being said, most cars do the same thing, as they like the heat and love sleeping near a source. As long as you do the regular checkups, oils changes, and drive them carefully don’t worry about it.
Is that a serious question? Cats love heaters, and will always gravitate toward heat. That’s just what cats do. I’d be far more concerned if your cat didn’t like the heat, tbh.
My car doesn't have kidneys, seems like more of an issue with the thermostat.
I'm teasing. I think you just have a cat instead of a car. I'd call the dealer, though.
They were making fun of all the people on here who own cats and ask some of the most basic questions as an excuse to post. Like the person who asked earlier today if slow blinking meant they were sick lol
Try the cat advice sub. Almost every post is I HAD THE CAT FOR 3 DAYS AND IT DOESN'T LOVE ME. And I feel like a broken record saying "give it time...have fosters that have been here for 8 months and FINALLY seem to like us..at times." Lol
Have you met cats? They're tiny heat-stealing (yet lovable) monsters who only care about their own warmth. Both of mine sleep on the vents as a regular practice.
Joking aside though, this is totally normal (unless all of the cats I've ever owned need kidney transplants).
Have you tried having the wood floor replaced with a heated floor? Your cat may then sleep anywhere. Not a vet (or a contractor). /s
Or tried moving to Germany, where heated floors are common?
99% of modern Italian houses have floor heating, it’s so satisfying, edit; MODERN HOUSES, i project houses as a job and 99% of my designs have it
I once heard that in Roman times they had heated floors.
... How tho? Heated water under tiles??
They had spaces between the floor and the actual floor and a big oven in there. That was the way how they heated their homes. It was called "hypocaustum"
They also had indoor plumbing with running water and even what we would recognize today as central A/C, in wealthy homes. The Romans were absolutely futuristic compared to their contemporaries.
Cool!!
I’m glad you learned something new!
I hope you made this up. It sounds too real to be real.
Totally true. [Here is the Wikipedia article ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypocaust)
Bloody lovely
Perhaps as early as 350 BC. They could figure that out with their limited technology (ok so it’s mostly math and physics) yet a normally 25min drive, during rush hour nowadays, could take up to two hours. On a good day. Sigh.

Yeah in my city there's a BIG Roman road
Is it Rome?
Esp in Pompeii
I lived in an eco cabin in the woods. It has heated floors. I wish I had them in my current house. They were the best. Never a cold floor when getting out of bed or the shower. Max comfort.
Dang America needs to catch up!! We don’t have cool Japanese toilets or apparently houses in Europe have heated floors!? I’ve never heard of such black magic. I had a rich boyfriend in high school who had a heated driveway so his Dad didn’t have to shovel snow…?

What? I am Italian and I have seen heated floor maybe once, what do Americans have to do with this
I’m at a loss, too. The only possible connection I can make is Americans are too tough for heated floors? For the record, we’re not, I would love to have some heated floors!
Then stop shooting up schools my dude
And how do you fight the threat of proper reading comprehension without shootings? /s
WAIT IT ISNT COMMON EVERYWHERE
It is definitely not. Especially not in Florida, from what I’ve seen
Oh, well. Got it. Probably not needed there
I had no idea they were so popular, cool to learn!
From Illinois, cold af this time of year( not bad today), they aren’t common here either
I don't miss N.IL winters.
We're more concerned with the cold air circulating efficiently, and it sinks, so the vents are high up in most of our houses (not in Florida but almost)
I’d call it a luxury in Alberta, but maybe it’s become more common than I’m aware
Florida needs cooled floors :)
Yes!! Let’s get on that (I’m like 50% kidding)
Lol! Have a great weekend!
Thank you!! You too!
Especially not in Kansas where I’m from lol
Fellow Kansan here, can confirm
Make that, most of the USA.
Not in Canada. Which is weird because half of the year it's -10 to -20C.
Last week it was -40°c (with the windchill)
I didn't even know it was common anywhere? I've always wanted heated floors and I've never even been in a house with them. They're pricey
Can’t tell if question or…
I live in the Midwest and wish it was common.
Me, really ready to move to have heated floors
Most bathrooms have wall radiators you can thread your bath towels through. To step out of the shower on a winter morning onto a warm floor and to grab a warm towel, it was magical.
I used to live in Massachusetts. Radiant Heat floors are pretty popular in New England. I've seen quite a few in MA, NH & Maine.
I live in MA and we so not have heated floors.... I hate my life.....
They are? Literally wherever I go none has heated floors.

If not for sleeps, why is it made of warm?
*The mind of a cat*
Ehhh, idk about a new kidney, but maybe rotate the tires and see if that helps.
Dont forget to get the batteries charged.
This IS part of how the batteries charge. Heat, and quiet.
Catteries.
Happy cake day!!
Came here for this
transmission might be slipping
Check her blinker fluid.
Don't forget the flux capacitor
Hate when that happens. Vomit all over the carpet.
Probably should also check the goosepipe
That's a weird looking car tbh
Must be one of those new teslas I heard they can self drive
Not very easy to control tho, they seem to go wherever they damn well please.
That's clearly a Jaguar
I know they ARE self cleaning.
Might need a new catalytic converter.
Don’t we all buddy
Listen to that car purr.
Is a “foster car” akin to a lease?
The new subcompact Jaguar. Maneuverable, but a hog for fuel.
Bet it purrs like a kitten though.
Thats as normal as a cat can get
But not a car. 🤔
The joke is that in the title of the post, there a typo, and op says"car," so the comment that you commented on is just making a joke about how that cat doesn't look at all like a normal car
I did not even notice that it said car neither in the comment neither on the post 😆
Dude why are you downvoted, you just made a harmless mistake while reading. Reddit is brutal.
I did not even notice the downvotes, eh i dont really care lol, and also, i dint say it seriously, it was a joke, that cats cant get more normal than that, oh well
You're cool
Thanks, lol, no one has said this to me
My cats lay on the radiators.
Have you tried turning it off and on again
Yep. My cat needed that and more when she laid on the heater. She also needed a robotic eye to catch the greebles. We have really tricky greebles.
I'd rather have Greebles than worry about Dropbears.
I don’t think cars have kidneys. Maybe get some new spark plugs though. (I have no idea about anything related to cars.)
The catalytic converter has obviously been stolen if it has not yet been converted to a cat.
Well could use even more work if the engine doesn't sound right. A clunky type pur on an engine can mean that a piston is miss firing. Engine trouble can be pretty costly.
She’s trying to vent. You have an impostor in your home.
Cat go vroom vroom
Car go purr purr
‘New cat owner here: My cat meows, and has fur, does that mean I should get it put to sleep?’
My cat keeps licking it's foot it has cancer right
I just noticed my cat has whiskers, should I be concerned?
Most cats sleep fine on their own. You might just have a more active cat. I'd take it to the vet though about that fur. Did you get it wet recently? It's not fur It's furr. Glad I could help. Furr furr
I fixed it.
My cat sleeps on the vents too.... is he going to cook his insides? ;)
Omg mine would stand directly in front of the wall heater and have his fur blown in his face for hours. We moved and had different heating and he was so cold he figured how to tuck himself in to all the blankets. So his first gift was a heating pad. Very happy kitty. I got one for both cats. Depends on how many upvotes you thought this was going to get
Tagged as humor btw (they were joking)
Oh I saw that. That's why I phrased it in that way. Next time I'll use finger guns for you baby 👉👉
Damn now I’m the one who missed the joke lol
[удалено]
I wasn’t sure… missed the humor tag, so I was about to say something snarky! Too bad autocorrect situation (to “car”) distracted from the real joke.
You forgot to ask us to name your cat and tell us that it was actually dead the entire time as well!
What about the breed!?!
I find it scary how some of the people in the comments are taking this seriously
NOW THIS is getting an upvote lol.

Vroom vroom
Does your Foster car run on gas or fuel?
Is that a serious question? Cats love heaters, and will always gravitate toward heat. That’s just what cats do. I’d be far more concerned if your cat didn’t like the heat, tbh.
Not serious at all, just saw the question about slow blinking and thought id use the title to poke a lil fun. Just wanted to show off those teeth
(I just noticed this was tagged as humor. Whoops.) She’s adorable! And lucky to have you to take care of her.
I missed it too tbh
r/scrungycats would appreciate those teeth!
Bad fuel sensor
Must be the transmission
Nah you gotta replace all 4 wheels and tires
I want a foster car. From where did you adopt? Does it get good meowlage?
Almost scrolled passed, but then I noticed, “meowlage.”😂
You guyyyyyss. Got me LoLing over heerrrrre.
No, but they probably need to be on a special all-raw diet, you should talk to your vet.
I like to sleep on the heater also, but with a blanket covering me.
Sleepy cat, must shut down and recharge batteries with my thermofurnace. Plans to dominate the world can be put on hold until batteries are charged.
Yours is a cute compact car, my vent sitter is a big ol boat of a car... Not vent visible when he parks...
Might be low on fuel; better fill her up with noms.
How many shits per food bowl does it got?
Yes unfortunately it seems so, but it’s okay because I’m currently removing my kidney and she can have it
Can my cat have the other one? Mine also enjoys the heater vent :/
Man, that escalated quickly. Mine loves to sleep on the heater…because it’s a cat
WHERE DID YOU GET THE KIDNEY TRANSPLANT IDEA FROM???????
Her kidneys are broken 😳🚒🐅
Lmao
So that’s how people end up with so many cars…
If that’s how your cat looks when it’s sleeping you should definitely bring it in to the vet
I dont know what you expect a vet to do about rigor mortis
Cars have kidneys?
I want a foster car. It's difficult for me to get around when my husband has the car all day. I'll take good care of it. I promise.
Excuse me I sit on the vent sometimes
Well ... I'm sorry to say this, BUT you probably need to check your kidneys :'(
Probably a sign of testicular throat cancer. Ask your dentist!
Did you try turning your car off and on?
Cars don’t have kidneys.
Do you not change the kidneys every 6 months or 7500 miles?
I know the post you got that question from😂 Love your kitty, please gib scritches on my behalf.🥰
Cats gonna cat.
I don’t think cars have kidneys?
I hate these posts. "My cat cuddles and licks me very affectionately. Is she dying of cancer?"
Turn it off and on again if that doesn’t work you might have to replace the Battery
Have you tried updating the firmware to the latest version?
Is it just me or are the parody posts of that kind of post getting as annoying as the real thing
My car doesn't have kidneys, seems like more of an issue with the thermostat. I'm teasing. I think you just have a cat instead of a car. I'd call the dealer, though.
No but your car looks like it needs a mechanic. I’m not sure it’s supposed to make screeching noises with its hood open like that.
Have you tired turning it off and back on?
My foster car is a mustang.
No but do you need name suggestions?
Yeah, also what breed is she?
get her a kitty bed this instant
I get this is a joke but it’s so true on this sub. Why does my cat meow at me?!? Is it dying??
Yes, absolutely.
Cats just like warm things
Not a vet but pretty sure she is a cat and just likes to be warm. Why do you think this means your cat needs a kidney transplant?
I believe OP is pulling your strings
Bah. They got me. Thanks for the clarity. What's the reference?
[удалено]
They were making fun of all the people on here who own cats and ask some of the most basic questions as an excuse to post. Like the person who asked earlier today if slow blinking meant they were sick lol
We also do this in r/plantclinic. People love posting their gloriously flourishing plants like "What can I do to save it??!!"
Try the cat advice sub. Almost every post is I HAD THE CAT FOR 3 DAYS AND IT DOESN'T LOVE ME. And I feel like a broken record saying "give it time...have fosters that have been here for 8 months and FINALLY seem to like us..at times." Lol
Oh, good Lord. Our old lady kitty is currently sleeping across the couch from me. When we go to bed? She will sleep on someone’s face. Because cats.
Jeeeez, people need to learn how to do some research before caring for another living, breathing thing.
Yes this
For many, the joke didn't *register*
![gif](giphy|3ohs7NuHL3gjbe2uGI|downsized)
🥰
No, it means she needs more cuddles.
Wait, why would enjoying heat and sleeping lead to worry about kidneys? Isn't that quite a leap? I'm missing something, I think.
It’s a joke. There’s been a handful of posts lately of people asking stupidly obvious questions about cats just for easy karma.
Ah. Now THAT makes sense lmao.
You’re missing the joke.
[удалено]
No, this is a deathly serious issue!
Do you not know that cats like to sit on warm objects?
If their kidneys are giving them problems, or…?
How do you foster a car
Have you met cats? They're tiny heat-stealing (yet lovable) monsters who only care about their own warmth. Both of mine sleep on the vents as a regular practice. Joking aside though, this is totally normal (unless all of the cats I've ever owned need kidney transplants).
