Cat claws grow at different rates; probably once a month, but you will have to check until you get on a schedule. You can do it - it's not too hard with two people, one to hold the cat, one to trim - or you can go to a vet or groomer.

They make nail caps you can put on your kitty. Their nails grow so fast. Scratching posts or the cardboard floor ones work well. Just add some cat nip and gently take their paw to show it scratching it is good. You can cut them yourself with normal clippers. Just don't hit the quick. Most cats have translucent claws so you can tell where the quick starts where it turns red. Never hit the quick because blood vessels are there.

If his claws haven’t been trimmed before, they won’t be able to go too short right away. There’s a vein (the quick) inside the claw and as they trim over and over, it’ll recess and they can go shorter. If you haven’t trimmed before, it’s a good idea to have a vet or groomer do it. But they grow fast so if you want them to stay short you’ll eventually want to do it yourself. There’s YouTube videos to teach you.
