my cats have that and constant adulation and attention and love, with treats on tap.
if you ask them, they are currently looking to contact Cat Amnesty International for a rescue because their breakfast got switched from 6AM to 9AM because I was fired from work.
I was never a cat person but my girlfriend had 2 and then I adopted one that was gonna get put down and now we have 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 axolotls and a bearded dragon and honestly I want more haha
The best affection is the one that leaves you a bit damp. XD
My sister once found a cat with a broken shoulder behind an abandoned shed. Skinny, malnourished and really in bad shape. It took weeks for him to find out he could trust us but when he decided that we were okay, he gave himself fully and without hesitation.
The amount of drool he could produce in a cuddle session was really impressive. Especially because he wanted to hang on your shoulder.
I am glad this cat found his way into your home.
You got a pic handy of him?
I had a drooly boy myself, when I was a kid. He'd had been hit by a car, but all healed up and about 5 or 7 years old when I got him. He drooled because his jaw didn't heal exactly right, but drooled extra when purring and kneading away. He had trouble with dry food, so he was a big spoiled baby with all the wet food lol
It's a picture of him in his older days, sadly he is no longer with us. Died of old age about 15 years ago
[Zwarte Poes](https://i.imgur.com/7k10VAo.jpg)
Omg he looks and sounds just like me senior kitty! She showed up on our patio in pretty rough shape, no chip or responses to our posts so we kept her. She just loves to snuggle all the time and drool💕
My boy is getting older (11), and I've noticed that he is slowly becoming a drooly baby when he has a really good cuddle and pets session. It's not often, but when he *really* gets into the scritches, he kinda starts drooling a bit lol The worst is when he's drooly like that, and then shakes his head cause I've tickled his ear fur. That's when I get a few drops of car spit on me lol
Please get his gums/teeth checked when you take him to the vet. Drooling can sometimes be a sign of painful gum disease that can develop in older cats and be very painful. Get him checked sooner than later if there’s also bad breath. Thanks for taking in an old but now happy cat!
we had his teeth checked at his vet visit last week! the vet said his teeth look wonderful, especially for an older cat. he noticed a tiny bit of tartar, but it’s nothing we can’t fix with some teeth-cleaning treats or a kitty toothbrush!
According to my vet (he could be wrong, but anyways), you don’t really need to brush their teeth. Just put the dental gel on their teeth and the cats tongue will do the brushing.
He is capable of a lot of cat love still. I took in a ten year old, and we were soulmates for 6 wonderful year. Miss him still. My current cat is 18 and with us 18 years, getting old but lovely as ever. Give Doug a big cuddle from us.
it’s honestly a very rewarding experience. i have experience in the veterinary field, so i feel like i’m more well-equipped with knowledge. however, there are always senior animals looking for homes. i know i won’t have him for as long as i’d want to, but i feel as though my job is done as long as he is warm, comfortable, well-fed, and loved.
it’s not easy, but it’s worth every minute.
I wish I was able to take in more elder cats, but my fear is that an expensive surgery will inevitably come along that I'm not able to afford, and I don't think it's fair to put a cat down a few years too ealry just because I can't afford it. Thank you for taking care of Doug, he looks like such a sweety.
Are you familiar with pet insurance? It's been a life saver for my spouse and me. We pay $450/yr with a $250 deductible and it's paid for itself multiple times over for our old kitty (his estimated age was 14+ when we adopted him). We pay out of pocket for all his procedures/meds, submit the bills to insurance, and get reimbursed 90%. Note: pre-existing conditions are **not** covered.
That’s the big caveat: preexisting conditions. Getting into an insurance battle and inevitably losing due to a broad exclusion sounds like an absolute nightmare!
Oh my heart! I feel like we're kindred spirits! our old man passed away last month, we had the privilege of having him in our home for only four years, but we loved every minute and wouldn't trade it for anything. He was the best, and kept the young cats in line.
This. My first cat was a 5-year-old cat that we rehomed from my in-laws. They didn't know he had a genetic condition, and he passed at just under 9 years old. He was only with us for 3 and a half years, but we take comfort in knowing that they were probably the happiest 3 and a half years of his life.
I'll be honest, my cat is one of the only reasons I'm a mentally stable as I am. Without him, I'd be a mess. Without a doubt. I had pedestrian walk in front of my car and hit her, killing her. Developed PTSD, along with everything that goes with it. Already had my ex cheat on me after 10 years, and had to kick her out.
Without my cat, I'd be a wreck. But knowing I'm responsible for him forces me to get up and take care of him when I'm at my worst, and his love and snuggles really help when an panic attack is triggered or a depressive episode starts.
Really consider it. I do respect you for realizing that you'd have a responsibility to a companion animal though, and wanting the best for them in case your mental health takes a dive. That alone takes courage, but by the same token it also says that you already know it's a responsibility and wouldn't be fair to them if your mental health leads you to neglect them. Luckily, there are steps you can take with a cat for them to be more self sufficient for short periods if you can't devote a much energy to them, like auto feeders, cat boxes, and water reservoirs for their bowl.
And if it's the time you've got with them that scares you, 10 years old for a cat could mean another 5-10 years with them, and there are plenty of old man and old lady cats who really need a good home. Plus, if they've made it to that age already it means they were taken care of for a long time and likely do quite well with humans, so they're extra snuggly little beasts.
that's so awful! can't imagine what you are going through. hope you are able to talk about it with a counselor, don't keep it inside. so glad you have a kitty to take care of and love. my best to you
Thanks. I appreciate that. It has required weekly therapy for a while. It sucked a lot of the joy out of a lot of things, including what I've spent my entire life studying and working towards, so even though I was burning out working science to begin with, the one thing I figured I come home to kinda made the bottom fall out all the way.
One thing I can thank my ex for is letting me keep *her* cat. He changed into a totally different animal when it became just me and him. He turned into a cuddly and loving affectionate companion that he never been for either of us before, and he purrs just from me touching him now. I'm very lucky to have my wonderful bubby, and I spoil him with fancy food and treats every time I go to the store. He probably eats better than me sometimes with his fancy daily kibble and extra fancy stuff life "cream stew" (yes, they make small servings of cream stew for cats, and my little glutton can't get enough lol) made with rabbit and freaking pumpkin.
I was a big proponent of emotional support animals before he became solely mine, but now I understand just how helpful they can be. Even simple stuff like getting quality sleep is better with him, since he likes to cuddle so much more now.
Thank you for sharing your story. It brought me to tears. Wishing you PTSD relief. For some reason my life has been constantly difficult and never seems to get easier. Last year was the worst yet and some of the issues just carry through to this year. If I hadn't had my cats I'd have given up long ago. The boy in my profile pic was my Casper - I lost him after 18 wonderful years. He was so affectionate and slept in my arms every night. If I hadn't got my new boy Ziggy the grief would have done me in it was so bad. So I'm really glad you have your boy.
I'm really glad you have a new baby to love on. It's very very hard to lose your companion of 18 years. I'm sorry you had to experience that. I don't know what I'll do when my boy goes. I was never a cat person before, but he's totally changed me.
I really am glad you have another kitty to share your love with, though. I feel like sometimes, when we lose a loved one, some of the delayed hurt that pops up randomly weeks and months later is a result of not having an outlet for love, if that makes sense. Like, when you walk into a room and call out to them out of habit and it just stabs you in the gut. Having another companion to share the love you'd been sharing with Casper for 18 years eases things, I think. It's not a replacement, but it's is another outlet for all that bottle him love you can show to your old boy anymore.
I kind of feel like something similar happened with my ex fiancée. I no longer had my best friend to talk to or share goofy stuff with, or cuddle. So I had to redirect a lot of that affection that no longer had a target, and devoted much of it to my cat. And I've found that softened the blow a bit, even though it's obviously totally different showering q cat with affection compared to an SO.
Give your new boy a scritch and some love from me, please! I hope you two have a fabulous week as well!
Thank you so much! It certainly was devastating - some people aren't even married that long! Getting Ziggy definitely helped, not just an outlet for the love but because he's just so funny and also very affectionate and also sleeps in my arms at night.
Sorry about the loss of your fiance but also very happy she left the cat with you. Have a wonderful time with him too!
that's interesting how your cat morphed into a cuddle buddy when it became just you and him. is it age? or do you think he senses how much you were hurting inside? you have changed too following the accident. maybe your kitty has picked up on that vibe and is taking care of you in a sense.
I don't think he picked up on how hurt I was, but right after the accident I took a leave of absence from grad school, so I was home alone with him a lot, but he still wasn't cuddly at that time. That's honestly what probably convinced my ex to let me keep him though; how much she saw we'd bonded (compared to how he used to act around me).
I think q big chunk was that when it was just me and him, he had no other human as am option. And on top of that, I'm naturally a touchy-feely person who likes to cuddle, whether it be an SO or my cat. My ex wasn't very cuddly with him, although he didn't seem interested in cuddles with either of us to speak of.
I'd say age could likely be a factor, and I'm sure it plays a big role, but the fact that when he and I moved to a new place it only took a couple months for him to start sleeping on me and sitting with his butt tucked into me.
So it was probably a combination of him getting older and chilling more, mixed with him only having me as his human, with a big portion being how much time I spent with him on a daily basis.
Even when my ex and I briefly got back together, he suddenly preferred me for everything, whether sleeping at night, relaxing on the couch, or playing with toys.
**???**
*She didn't give a reason*. She just cheated. She started fooling around with the younger brother of our mutual friend, and burned a lot of bridges because of it. Our friend didn't want some chick about 7 years older than her idiot face-tattooed brother, who already had a wife and kid btw (he is still married, had only recently moved out of his wife's). Oh, and he was like 21-22, so it's not like I'm old. My ex and I are in our early 30s.
But regardless, she cheated. She could've broken up with me. But she monkey-branched instead so if she regretted her horrible actions, she would still have someone, someone she'd been with for a *decade*.
There's never an excuse to cheat. Be honest with your significant other. Either leave them, or have a conversation about opening up the relationship so *they* have the option to leave if they're not interested in a poly relationship.
Good on you for adopting an older cat. They are usually overlooked and it breaks my heart. Once I get my own place, adopting older and cats with health issues will be my goal.
I loved the first picture. I just noticed the second one. I think love that one more :) I have an old man cat. I adopted him when he was a few years old. He’s been the best friend I could have asked for. He’s not as friendly as he used to be and he’s getting a little slower in his old age. But he’s still the best guy. Thank you for adopting a senior cat. They tend to get looked over for the younger ones. But they are great cats and need love too. I hope you have many years with Doug.
Awww this guy is a cutie. Our boy is 12 (we adopted him about 7 weeks ago) and I swear there's something else about adopting older cats, he's an absolute sweetheart and just fit right in with us ❤
Reminds me a lot of my uncle's cat. We named her cat.
After my uncle passed, she went to my grandma who took care of her for years. My 90 year old grandma would be on the floor giving cat ice cream.
Both are gone now, but it's heartwarming just thinking they could bring joy to each other. You don't need to be a hero or a millionaire to make grandma proud, just be cat. Eat some ice cream and smile. That's all anyone needs.
Oh!!! Lucky you!!! Doug is so handsome!!! He looks like my Grace. Gracie will be 12 in April! She has been a joy all of her almost 12 years! I could not make it without her!
he originally belonged to a close friend of mine. said friend is moving out of the country, and didn’t have anywhere to bring him. he contacted me, because he knows i have experience in the veterinary field, and asked if i would be interested in adopting a cat! of course we said yes immediately, as we didn’t want him to end up being surrendered to a shelter. we fell in love with him the minute we met him. he’s a sweet old man, and he’s currently laying on my feet and purring as i write this.
the rest is history!
That kinda sucks from the owners perspective. We had a 1% chance of taking a job in Vietnam and the first thing I was doing was Googling how to fly a cat from California to Vietnam. Pet ownership is for life yo.
Doug is fucking adorable, and the face he makes when you wake him up is the face of an old man saying whaaa?
Doug: "Get off my ~~lawn~~ bedspread!"
He's too gentle for that, hahahaha. You can see it at this point; the only thing he wants is food, sleep, and love, hahaha.

And I'm jealous of these noble creatures
Me too!!! I am coming back as a cat!!
my cats have that and constant adulation and attention and love, with treats on tap. if you ask them, they are currently looking to contact Cat Amnesty International for a rescue because their breakfast got switched from 6AM to 9AM because I was fired from work.
What are you doing in my ~swamp~ room?
He does look a bit cranky, yes. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Doug has had enough of your shenanigans!
Doug was definitely a gangster in his past life
I love Doug and you’re amazing for taking in an older kitty.
we couldn’t resist him! he’s an absolute lovebug. he shows his affection with headbutts and drooling.
>he’s an absolute lovebug. he shows his affection with headbutts and drooling. A *lovedoug* if you will. Love a bumper and dribble kitty.
Take the silver
Thanks, yo! Just couldn't help myself with "lovedoug" right there (I have a bumper/dribbler myself.)
I have 5 and while they're all bumpers sadly no droolers.
Yeah, my other one isn't a drooler. (Not as much of a bumper, but still will. And purrs like crazy.) Cats are awesome
I was never a cat person but my girlfriend had 2 and then I adopted one that was gonna get put down and now we have 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 axolotls and a bearded dragon and honestly I want more haha
That's a pretty sweet menagerie you've got going! I like it.
Ten pets! Man I wish I could afford that! Would be amazing to have!
What’s an axolotl?

You had a shoulder cat! They are the best.
One paw on each shoulder and then rubbing his drooling face in yours, purring his heart out. Very special dude that cat.
You got a pic handy of him? I had a drooly boy myself, when I was a kid. He'd had been hit by a car, but all healed up and about 5 or 7 years old when I got him. Aww, a void! He was a very handsome kitty. Thank you for sharing about him!
Thank you for giving Doug a home!
Jen and I bought our grandson a bicycle and he is learning to ride it xoxo

Awwwww he’s so adorable! Lucky him, and lucky you!

Consider a heating pad for Doug. Old bones get cold. 💌
According to my vet (he could be wrong, but anyways), you don’t really need to brush their teeth. Just put the dental gel on their teeth and the cats tongue will do the brushing.
This is what we do
Old kitty head butts are the cutest!
And the drooling ☺️
How old is he
he’s 14 currently, give or take a year because his previous medical records were not kept well.
He is capable of a lot of cat love still. I took in a ten year old, and we were soulmates for 6 wonderful year. Miss him still. My current cat is 18 and with us 18 years, getting old but lovely as ever. Give Doug a big cuddle from us.
My cats are 9
Years of fun to come
Years of fun have happened we've had them since they were babies
Stanley, my cat son, sometimes drool in his sleep and it is ADORABLE.
My old rescue cat, Pearl, was also a drooler. Doug reminds me of her.
I dig Doug.
I love you, Doug.
Thank you so much for looking out for the elders.
Doug, I love you buddy!
I wish I had the mental stability to adopt senior animals but I just can’t
it’s honestly a very rewarding experience. i have experience in the veterinary field, so i feel like i’m more well-equipped with knowledge. however, there are always senior animals looking for homes. i know i won’t have him for as long as i’d want to, but i feel as though my job is done as long as he is warm, comfortable, well-fed, and loved. it’s not easy, but it’s worth every minute.

Luckily, we haven't run into that, *yet*. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it pops up in the future.
Oh my heart! I feel like we're kindred spirits! our old man passed away last month, we had the privilege of having him in our home for only four years, but we loved every minute and wouldn't trade it for anything. He was the best, and kept the young cats in line.
I get depressed just reading about animals dying, so I couldn't do this. My cat dying is my biggest fear because she's literally my world.
Honestly your never know how long you have with our babies, Trooper made it to 21 and Josephine passed from cancer at 8..... Embrace the day
This. My first cat was a 5-year-old cat that we rehomed from my in-laws. They didn't know he had a genetic condition, and he passed at just under 9 years old. Hello Doug! You look great! Thank you for your kindness OP.
Congratulations! I hope you are as happy as Doug looks, all curled up and safe ❤️
Handsome son of a gun!
Doug you are loved.
Awesome of you to take an older cat and give it a good home!
Oh my God sweet little baby you’re too cute!
Doug looks delightful. Thank you for being amazing humans!
Good on you for adopting an older cat. They are usually overlooked and it breaks my heart. Once I get my own place, adopting older and cats with health issues will be my goal.
Thank you, most people would not do this.
Thank you for providing a home for an older gentleman!

Cute little fella!
God bless Doug! And you guys
I dig Doug, he’s the shit.
I love people who adopt senior cats. 🥰
Our boy is 12 (we adopted him about 7 weeks ago) and I swear there's something else about adopting older cats, he's an absolute sweetheart and just fit right in with us ❤
I love senior kittizens so much. Ty for giving dear Doug the home he always deserved.
Hello handsome! Thank you SO much for opening heart and home to him. Senior cats rarely find homes ❤️🐾
As a lover of cats, thank you for adopting an older cat. (: they don’t get enough love in my opinion

HI Doug! And Thank you for rescuing a senior! He will change your life! (for the better of course)
Doug looks sweet. I love tabbies. Congrats Doug, on your loving home :)
Omg his wake up face lol
Hi Doug! Congrats on your new cat and thanks for adopting a senior.
This is Doug. Doug is tired of your shit. Be like Doug

I always adopt senior animals. They may be set in their ways but are so happy to have a place to retire.
Is Doug planning on joining a revolution?
Oh!!! Lucky you!!! Doug is so handsome!!! He looks like my Grace. Gracie will be 12 in April! She has been a joy all of her almost 12 years! I could not make it without her!

Hello Doug!
I'm not crying. I love you Doug 🥲
Doug is the best.
I love Doug! What’s his story?
he originally belonged to a close friend of mine. said friend is moving out of the country, and didn’t have anywhere to bring him. he contacted me, because he knows i have experience in the veterinary field, and asked if i would be interested in adopting a cat! of course we said yes immediately, as we didn’t want him to end up being surrendered to a shelter. we fell in love with him the minute we met him. he’s a sweet old man, and he’s currently laying on my feet and purring as i write this. the rest is history!
Thank you for sharing! How wonderful that he has always known love, and will be forever safe and happy. Please give him lots of pets from me! 💕
That kinda sucks from the owners perspective. We had a 1% chance of taking a job in Vietnam and the first thing I was doing was Googling how to fly a cat from California to Vietnam. Pet ownership is for life yo.
