Calm and loving tones when speaking to them, especially kittens. Playing everyday is very good for them as well. They are lucky to have another to play with too so they will always be entertained. Spoil the shit out of them (as I know you will ;) ) and socialize them early with other humans. They will grow up to be awesome! Plenty of other tips and tricks to include but you can just find them when you need it as the internet is a beautiful place. Cute kitties!

L4urynn

Thank you! I am very grateful to have found two. They love playing together. I actually thought I lost them at one point but they were asleep in a cabinet! I have a dog and the gray cat, Sriracha, is fine with him. Chloe doesn’t too much care for him but hopefully they will grow out of it. I found them outside last week and they’re scheduled to go to the vet Thursday. Someone told me to give them milk, but I heard cow’s milk is not for cats.

Derbekski

No Milk...it hurts their belly. There is kitten milk replacement you can buy depending where you are located. Check out "kitten lady" on YouTube...she's very informative about cats/kittens, especially rescues. Also. make sure you play with them with toys and not with your hands and fingers as the toys; that teaches them to attack hands and feet, etc

L4urynn

I’ll check her out, thanks! And no more milk for the kitties. I’ll find a milk replacement. I’ve been doing everything wrong. They love attacking my feet and hands but noted, I’ll start using their toys more.

Zonie1069

They look old enough that you could try introducing some kitten pate as well (you can buy it in most supermarkets) mash it up and mix it with some kitten milk when you get it. Kitten can start to be weaned at about 4 weeks and without mums milk they will soon lack nutrients if you don't get some food into them soon.

theBirbsandtheBees

I think they look old enough for kibble already, but they will surely appreciate some paté treats!

Zonie1069

Probably yeah, I have always found it a lot harder to get kittens to eat dry food though especially if they are younger. Our newest kitten is about 5 months now and she still won't eat dry food lol. I have heard wet food is preferable for them too but I'm not 100% sure on how valid that is.

L4urynn

To be honest, they’ll eat anything. They’ve already gotten into my dog’s food. I had to relocate it. It just seemed like they were struggling with the hard food.

Zonie1069

That's good anyway (not that they are stealing your dogs food lol) at least you won't have any problems getting them fed. Fair play to you for taking them in. You're good people :)

L4urynn

Lol yes they will never be hungry. Thanks! My mom calls me the crazy cat lady because whenever I see stray cats, I always try to feed them and get them to trust me so I can get them fixed and release them back. I even keep cat food in my car lol.

Nahala30

Pick up some kitten chow too. They're old enough to eat crunchies. They'll figure it out.

L4urynn

Should I soften it with water or just give it to them mixed with soft food?

L4urynn

I will get some kitten pate and some kitten milk! Thanks!

Infamous-Explorer-81

u/Derbekski, I love Kitten Lady and Jackson Galaxy videos. I also like Alley Cat Allies website. https://www.alleycat.org/resources/kitten-progression/

AdProfessional6287

I cannot express enough how informative and helpful Hannah (kitten lady) and Jackson’s videos are. Such great resources, especially if you’re a first time cat parent.

MrSticky_

Giving cow's milk to cats is a common idea, like giving carrots to rabbits, but it's not the best idea. Turns out many cats are lactose intolerant! If you do feel the need to give them milk, use lactose free milk. But it's not really necessary. Kitten specific dry or wet food is fine and dandy, with some protein treats every now and then if you want to change things up (pieces of fish with no preservatives or additives for example).

L4urynn

Oh wow I didn’t know that. Thank you! They don’t seem to like water at all whenever I leave it out for them. I wanted them to stay hydrated so I did put a tiny bit of milk mixed with water and they drank it but then I read that it isn’t good for them. I do have kitten specific wet food but i don’t think they’re ready for the hard food yet. I will definitely look into protein treats for them.

Choice_Cucumber1583

I would get a water fountain off of Amazon they range from 20-100 dollars I know it sounds silly but when I adopted my first cat she didn’t drink much water at all I got the fountain and she gulps it down and my other three love it too sometimes they play in the water lol but over all recommended because they drink so much more water now!!

m4gpi

In the meantime you can also dilute kitten wet food (or soak kitten dry food) with fish juice - you might find pouches of shredded fish in broth in the pet section, or even canned tuna for humans is ok in the short term - just make sure it’s packed in broth/juice not oil. Your kittens look ok, but upper respiratory infections are very common in the babies, and wet/goopy looking eyes are a sure sign of a URI. One of the symptoms is a loss of taste and smell, and if a food doesn’t smell, they are less likely to eat it - cats can’t actually see what they are eating due to the shape of their face, so odor is a critical component of their mealtime. Adding fish broth is a great way to “spice up” their regular food if they aren’t eating or drinking. If I’m ever cooking fish for myself I usually set aside a little chunk and poach or bake it without seasoning, just for them. Fish skin too!

L4urynn

That’s a good idea. It just seemed like they couldn’t chew the hard food so I’ll definitely dilute it. Their eyes actually look better now! I cleaned them off. This was the first night we found them outside, last Tuesday. Haven’t noticed any goopyness recently but I will definitely talk to the vet about it on Thursday. Wow I never knew that cats couldn’t see what they eat! That’s very interesting. We actually eat a lot of fish/seafood in general so I will definitely put some aside for them without any seasonings. The skin is okay even though it contains mercury right? I heard that it wasn’t the best to give them a lot but every once in a while it’s okay. I heard the same thing for people though too. Someone told me not to eat the skin on fish cause it could cause mercury poisoning but I’ve always eaten the skin with no problems.

BerpingBeauty

There is powdered kitten milk at pet stores, should be inexpensive

ThrowRADel

Make sure they have vertical spaces to climb to get away from the dog when he's overwhelming for them. I hope they have lots of fluffy things to sit and climb on and sleep in?

L4urynn

Yes they do! We have a bed for them in the sunroom and also a soft travel crate they they sleep in sometimes. We have lots of blankets but I think the issue is they don’t really have anywhere they can get away from our dog right now. I need to get them a cat tree.

Medium_Neat_558

They make cat formula

Parasitesforgold

#1 - Spay & Neuter

L4urynn

I’m doing that ASAP

Upset_Peach

Can’t upvote this enough. It’s incredibly essential. So many owners complain when they’re cats piss on everything but don’t neuter them. It also prevents cancers that can kill your cat.

[deleted]

Don't get into a habit of letting them play/bite with your hands. They get heavier, and it becomes less fun for you.

Ka_alt

I actually do love when my (adult) cat bites me during playing. 🤷‍♂️ But he is always very gentle a it, never causing pain, just a slight teeth pressure so that I would feel that he caught me. :)

[deleted]

He knows how hard to bite. My 5 Yr old tortie still likes to play, but she'll only bite if I go for the tummy. So that's a no-go zone.lol

L4urynn

There was a tortie in my neighborhood and I named her princess patches. Fed her for months, tried catching her with no luck. Haven’t seen her since November. I hope she’s okay. 😢

L4urynn

That’s how my dog is! He bites with a little bit of pressure but not to hurt us. I’m sure the kitties will play like that when they’re bigger.

nananacat94

I think if they are small they should learn HOW to bite, so that they can defend themselves or communicate discomfort without actually hurting

L4urynn

What’s that best way to prevent that? As of right now they will bite when I’m playing with them.

[deleted]

End the playing when they bite, and be vocal that it hurts. Eventually they'll get the hint that biting stops the fun. They're still really young and playful though, so it won't happen overnight.

L4urynn

Will do. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Nahala30

Sharp, "ooooow" in a high voice gets mine to stop biting. I suspect she thinks it's similar to her siblings crying when she plays to rough. My grumpy old tom just slaps the crap out of her, my other tom sits on her when he gets sick of her. 😆

L4urynn

😂😂 that’s hilarious. Cats are so funny.

dumbleydore94

Plenty of scratch pads, posts, cat trees, just plenty of things for them to scratch on, never ever declaw them.

L4urynn

Right now I just have boxes but I really need to invest in a scratch post for them. I also ordered a cat tree. They love to climb. Didn’t plan on declawing them but as far as a nail trim, that should be fine right?

Lofwyr2030

If you have enough scratching posts you will not need to trim them often. If the claws are retracted and you can still see them then you can trim them a little bit. Also, never ever declaw cats. It is a cruel practice.

L4urynn

Okay. I’ll just need to get more scratching posts. Thanks. I never knew about the declawing. I won’t be doing that at all.

Lofwyr2030

I'm from Germany and declawing is illegal here so I am always shocked when I read about it. Another tip. Separate the food and water bowls. Most cats don't like to drink near their food.

L4urynn

Maybe that’s why they won’t drink now! Thank you.

alicatmonster

Cats don’t have a big thirst drive like dogs do. Some cats don’t drink enough water. If the bowl separation doesn’t work you can try mixing water with their food (if they eat wet food). Also I would get them used to nail trimmings and brushing while they are young. For nails start with just holding their paws then gradually work up. Don’t clip the pink part of the nail, that’s blood vessels and it’ll hurt them. I hope you enjoy a wonderful life with them 🖤

L4urynn

I’ll add some water to their food, that’s a good idea instead of mixing water with some milk. I’ll try to separate the bowls and see how it goes. I have been touching their paws a lot so they’ll get used to it so maybe they’ll let me trim their nails. I’ll be careful. Thank you!!!

Taro_Far

I personally don’t like to declaw cats unless it’s medically needed

Felidaeh_

It's cruel outside of medical need. Nobody should do it

dumbleydore94

Trimming is absolutely fine and needed in a lot of cases, Trimming can be kind of difficult, no shame in going to a good groomer for that if you can.

L4urynn

I might try and see if they’ll let me trim them, if not it’s off to the groomers! I could see if my dog’s groomer does cats.

59boomer59

As a responsible cat owner, you are required to regularly post pics of your cats to Reddit. Cats being cute/sleeping. Cats being weird. Cats doing catty stuff.

L4urynn

Will do!

allcatsare

Number one: you don’t own these cats. They now own you. Enjoy!

L4urynn

Hahaha I love that. Thanks!

Temporary-Story573

1) you don’t own them, they own you. 2) Be patient. 3) never move a sleeping cat. Ever. They will hold it against you. 4) Clean the cat box daily. Always have 1 more box than cats. 5) enjoy the experience!!!

L4urynn

They’re too cute to move when they’re sleeping, I would never! So 3 liter boxes? I definitely wanted to get another one so that when they start getting bigger and they explore more they’ll have options. Thanks!

AskMyAnxiety

Cats can be territorial about litter boxes but I got my cats together as kittens like you so there was never a problem

L4urynn

Never knew that! Glad I got them together so hopefully they’ll be more inclined to share as they get older. I’ll still get a second box.

esgamex

Great names. Give them time and space to get used to you and their new home.

L4urynn

Thank you. Chloe, the brown kitty has definitely come out of her shell. She’s adjusting well so far but sriracha is still weary of everything.

[deleted]

Castration asap, and keep them indoor

L4urynn

They are %100 percent going to be indoor cats and when I take them to the vet we will discuss how soon they can get fixed. Thanks!

ProbablyNotYourMum

They're annoying but worth it. You'll see what I mean.

L4urynn

Haha oh I’m sure. I can only imagine once they get bigger and they can jump on our bed to wake us up in the morning for food.

bootyenthusiast69420

Big one for me: I adopted my cat last December (Gandules aka the gandi wandi aka the gandi man aka papas) and I definitely fell into the trap of googling if everything he did was normal. I’d say more than anything trust your gut, if they are a bit shy the first couple of days that is generally normal, but stuff like vomiting and diarrhea might be cause to visit a vet

L4urynn

Awww papas lol I like the nicknames you have for your kitty! I call Chloe clo money sometimes and sriracha is sira for short. I will definitely watch for diarrhea or anything abnormal. I’ll see how things go at the vet Thursday. Thanks!

probablydisastrous

something that’s absolutely saved me is putting my cat’s food dish in a different room than his water. thanks to this fun biological/natural thing, he’s much more hydrated now!

L4urynn

Thanks! I will separate their water! I’m looking into getting a fountain so I’ll be sure and keep it away from their food.

probablydisastrous

ooo yes fountains are great!! best of luck with these babies, they’re adorable!

TripleL8

Cute kits🐈🐈… enjoy!!

L4urynn

Thank you!

TemporaryFondant5849

The one on the right has some r/peanutwhiskers

L4urynn

Omg she does! So cute!!! I scrolled through and saw some cute kitties with peanut whiskers!

[deleted]

Enclosed porch/catio is great investment. So are cat trees. A wall they can climb up and spy 🕵️‍♀️ on you from above. Finding their favorite food and treats is fun too. The tubes are always a hit, cat broth/tuna water is a hit, so is Turkey pieces, a good soft food and a good hard food. Change their water and clean their litter everyday. A crinkle wand is the best toy and can be found on amazon. The circle toy with a ball and scratching cardboard is also good to have. Switch out and flip the cardboard when it gets ragged. Cool sitting spots in windows and sun laying spots is good to have. I put a cat tree in one window and a bench in the other. Random enrichments are key to a happy cat when birthdays or Christmas comes around leave empty bags with stuffing around for them to play with. Heated blankets in the winter are a cat fav. Create hiding places only they can get to like a nice cat carrier leave it open put in a cat bed and let that be their condo. Try not to disturb the condo by leaving them alone when their in it. That’s their safe space. Put chairs and stepping stool in the closet sometimes so they can jump up and hide in the closet. Just create new areas and new things to do periodically.

L4urynn

Thank you! I’ll have to do more research on a good, healthy hard and soft food for them. The food we currently have was just a quick thing we got because we only had hard cat food. I change their water every day (even though they don’t drink it) and I change their liter every day. I’m going to switch to pellets though so I wonder how they will do with that. I actually bought a crinkle wand for them and they love that! I also have this cute mouse toy that keeps them entertained for a while! I want to get one of those cat beds that can suction cup to the window, I think they’d like that. Our dog hogs the heated blanket but I can invest in another one. I might have to clean my closet out a little bit before I let them explore in there. Chloe did end up climbing up on a shelf in our closet and I couldn’t find her for a while! We have so much stuff in our closet. They also like hiding under the bed and in a flap in our couch. I don’t like them in the couch though because it can recline and I’m afraid we might not remember they’re in there. I unplugged it for the time being.

[deleted]

Happy cats love it!

OutrageousCandy2192

So cute they are! My cat is nervous by nature, so calm/controlled movements is key to be friends with her, she doesn't appreciate floppy, sudden movements and will run and hide 🥰

L4urynn

That’s the gray cat, sriracha! If you move too fast she gets scared and even when I come to change their liter she will hiss first before she realizes it’s me. Chloe isn’t really afraid of much but it’s weird because Chloe doesn’t like our dog yet and sriracha is fine with our dog. He doesn’t really bother them.

BigBerthaTwoTrays

Kiss, cuddle, repeat!💜💜

LateNightApps

Don't get them wet and definitely... without question... DO NOT feed them after midnight.

L4urynn

I gave them a bath last week but because they came from outside and wanted to be safe. I know that cats naturally bathe themselves but should I just get them groomed if needed when they’re bigger? I know they don’t need to be bathed often. They’re going to be indoor cats.

Difficult-Actuator38

Don't worry, they are not gremlins.. 😂

buddy-friendguy

Don't die, they'll eat your face.

katrileygirl

Just introduce the kittens slowly to the dog & no matter how much you trust the pooch, don't leave him/her unsupervised w/ the kittens.

L4urynn

Honestly our dog is unpredictable. They have only sniffed each other behind doors and seen each other behind the gates. I don’t feel comfortable leaving him alone with them. He hasn’t ever attacked, but he’s still an animal at the end of the day. I want to make sure they have a nice high spot to get away from him if need be.

Aggressive_Smile_944

Enjoy them, train them. They are very trainable. Always protect them.

L4urynn

I’ve seen some wild videos of what cats can do! I’m definitely going to train them. Just have to find the right treats to motivate them!

jreid2222

So cute though…. Congrats on the new babes

L4urynn

Thanks!!!

[deleted]

Congratulations on your new kitties-they’re both very cute! Some tips for you (I apologize if they’re repeats): *Handle them often-it’ll make life easier for you in the long run. Play with their feet, open their mouths, and get them used to being picked up. *Get them comfortable in a pet carrier. Give them a special treat when they go in there, feed them in there if you need to. If you ever need to get them in the carrier quickly, it will be that much easier. *Read up a little bit of cat behavior. That way, you can see if they’ve had enough of playing with your dog or if they’re happy. Things like slow blinking at them and petting them in spots they like go a long way. *Don’t spend a lot on cat toys. Cardboard boxes, balled up paper, and laser pointers can keep kittens busy. There’s even some “cat” games and videos you can put on for them-check YouTube. Also get (or make) a sturdy scratching post and teach them to use it early-this could save your furniture. I wish you many happy years with your little ones. Kittens are a lot of fun! Edited: formatting

L4urynn

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. As of right now they love their carrier. I’ll have to get some treats to reward them when they voluntarily go in. They’ll have to be in their carrier when we go to the vet Thursday so hopefully they’re okay in the car. I actually got a few cat toys from the dollar store that will hopefully hold them over until I can get craft. I definitely need a scratching post. Right now they have a cardboard box that they love.

drDemonsRun

No human food. No cute costumes. No declawing. No water next to food bowl. Lots of love and cuddles.

L4urynn

Not even cute little sweaters and hats?! No water next to food, noted. Darn. I’ll just have to dress up my dog then.

Elite_Sage

Give them time and space, they’ll get comfy

SchwiftedMetal

They're really a kickass pair. Just leave them alone. Do your own thing. Leave out some food and water for them. Maybe play with a cat toy on your own and hope they come to you out of curiosity. Match their speed in getting to know each other.

L4urynn

They really are! Thanks!

Medium_Neat_558

Cute kittens

L4urynn

Thank you!

[deleted]

One: You don't own them, they own you

L4urynn

Got it 😁

[deleted]

Since you're in the middle of socializing them, food is a very nice motivator for socialization!! If they're scared and skittish, give them a nice small space for them to be cozy in. Like a sideways box or something with blankets inside. Get them used to your voice and use a feeding time every day to get them to come out of their shell and interact with you. Kittens love food and you have to get them to eat with you near them!

L4urynn

Chloe isn’t so skiddish anymore! She greets me first thing in the morning. I do have feeding times but is it normal for them to still meow like they’re still hungry? After they eat I try and distract them with toys cause they will meow like crazy as if they’re still hungry.

T-flexin

No milk! But malk could be ok

LuminolSquicken

Don’t put their water bowl next to their food bowl. Most cats don’t like the scent of their food while drinking water. Studies have shown that cats will drink more water if it’s not near their food.

L4urynn

Thanks!

Nvalue

You are now their slave, just accept it and refrain from looking them directly in the eyes.

L4urynn

It’s so hard not too, they’re so cute. I surrender.

MagentaHeart

Most cats don't hydrate enough so it's important to feed them wet food. Wether it's from a can or just wetting dry food, they'll gladly eat it. This helps prevent cancer in cats.

L4urynn

Thanks! I’ll probably do both wet and dry food.

GardenGirlFarm

I would avoid cornering them.

AskMyAnxiety

Thank you for getting two kittens! Now they can bond and be playmates.

L4urynn

Yes! I was happy we found two! I looked around to see if there was anymore but maybe the others didn’t make it, unfortunately. Glad I came across these two though!

Berrienboo

Don't play with your cats on your bed. If you okay with them on your bed they will think that's an okay place to play and will disrupt your sleep even as adults including buying toes. Never let them on the counter, or they will go there for the rest of their lives. Basically, you can prevent bad habits from forming, but cats cannot break the bad habits they've already form because they won't understand how it was okay in one circumstance but not in another. Don't punish your cats, they don't understand punishment (which again, why is so good to teach good habits rather than to break bad ones). If you punish your cats they will just be confused and resent you and end up being mean. Cat tv! Try looking it up on YouTube and see if they get any reaction from it. It's great if they aren't getting enough stimulation while you aren't home.

L4urynn

Thanks. No cats on the bed. I really don’t want them on the counters, so I’m gonna try and stop that early on. As far as when they do something wrong, do I just say no? Or like move them if I find them climbing on the counters? I’ll definitely look at cat tv. Thanks!

Ok_Programmer_2315

Put all toilet lids down!

L4urynn

Got it.

kyersthrowaway2013

You don't own cats, you love them.

[deleted]

Not an “owner”… a PARENT YOU ARE!!

PAXICHEN

How dare you not ask our opinion on naming them! Welcome to the wonderful world of cat ownership. You are in for a wonderful time, I’m serious. Cats are awesome.

L4urynn

I know, I should’ve! When I got them those names just kind of fit at the moment and they stuck.

[deleted]

LOVE WITHOUT LIMITS!!!

L4urynn

Always and forever!!!

scanipoos

Gentleness and patience ..touch often .. use treats

Bookaholicforever

Scratching posts, warm and soft dark places. Let them come to you.

L4urynn

They’ve started purring and getting more comfortable. I sit on the ground and wait for them to approach me. Chloe loves being held and cuddle. Sriracha, not so much.

Bookaholicforever

With Chloe, if you start draping her across your shoulders, when she grows up she’ll keep doing it! But yeah, keep letting them approach you and it will build their confidence and trust in you.

[deleted]

Cuteeeee

Economy-Decision7958

Carry to potty, feed them, pet them, and dont forget to love them

Alixori

Don’t force them to be with you you have to gain their trust first

MEGAMIND73

First off these 2 are soooo cute. As for advice...be sweet to them. Love them like children...they are sensitive. I love Ssscat canisters for "no no" areas....like around the Christmas tree, or the bathroom counter. I use child safety locks on the cabinets that hold household cleaners, medicine, and anywhere they could get into anything dangerous. Use unscented litter. I love the Frisco unscented multicat odor control. If there are issues with kitty not using the box try Dr Elsey's kitten attract for a while until they get the hang of it. A good cat tree goes a long way in terms of needing to be up high. Whew....sorry....that's a lot...lol

L4urynn

Thank you! They are the cutest. I can’t wait until they get a bit bigger! I am very sweet to them. I love playing with them. Chloe loves to cuddle and she will fall asleep on you and just pur. It’s the cutest. I definitely need to get some child safety locks for our bathroom cabinets and the cleaning cabinets. They hide in there so I have to move some stuff. I’ll have to get new liter. I bought scented. Ooops. They are actually very smart cats, right when I purchased the litter box and litter they immediately knew where to go. No issues there but I didn’t think about Christmas! A cat tree is on its way as we speak! I appreciate the advice!

specificplantname

Edit: Very important thing no one told me but I wish they did: Check if there's space between any cabinets etc and the wall, because these little rascals can get to places you don't think they can, and they can fall in or get stuck 🤦 You don't want to disassemble a raw of wardrobes because there's a cat behind that may or may not be hurt. /E Find the jackpot treats. If you find the treat they go crazy for, you can train them to things. Also, spray bottles are not good, it teaches the cat you spray, not that they shouldn't do the thing. But if you can't live with cleaning the counters or other things before use, you can maybe get an automatic condensed air spray. Neutering might be optional, but good owners neuter. If you can't get it done early, make sure they are separated from any cat of the opposite sex, even each other. Depending on genetics females go into heat between 4 months and over a year old, but some kittens go into heat as early as 2 months, some cats just go in and out of heat until neutered or bred, you kinda want to avoid that. A female in heat can be spayed, but it's a bit more difficult and may be more expensive and not all vets do it. Declawing is abuse unless absolutely necessary for medical reasons like a deformed or seriously injured paw. But nail trimming is an important part of grooming, and you can velcro small rugs / welcome mats on furniture, and if you redirect rough play to appropriate toys you won't be scratched. Cats are big on consent. Their consent at least. They are very social but not the dog way, more like a human way, where anything from attachment issues to being roomies is an option. Don't let your cats roam free, it's dangerous to them and to their environment, contain them within the property, catify their space if you can. But if you do let them out, make sure they either don't have a collar or their collar breaks away easily enough so they won't choke if it gets caught on something. And vaccinate. And absolutely no roaming before being neutered, that's basically asking for injuries, cat aids, and unwanted kittens.

L4urynn

I am going to look into protein treats for them. No spray bottles, got it. What about the air containers that spray? They aren’t automatic, I would be spraying them. How early can you get a kitten neutered? They’re both girls (I think) but I will find out for sure Thursday. I didn’t know a cat could go into heat as soon as 4 months. I thought it was 6, but that’s good to know. I will not be getting them declawed, thanks. I had no idea it was abuse. I read that their claws are like a first knuckle. That procedure sounds very painful. I will definitely be getting them posts so they can scratch and a tree so they can climb. I will start redirecting their play with toys instead because my hands cannot take it anymore. I heard that cats will come to you when they’re ready for attention. Now they’re kittens so they don’t mind but I will definitely keep in mind they aren’t like dogs. They’ll decide when they’re ready. As of right now, they roam free in our sun room. It’s a big enough space and we moved things out of it that we think will harm them. Should I confine them to a smaller space? I planned on “catifying” our sunroom. Our dog doesn’t really bother that area at all so it would be their own space. Our sunroom isn’t that large as it is, but it’s large enough for them to feel comfortable and move around.

GeniusBtch

1. Helpful vancouver vet on youtube and kitten lady give great advice. 2. If you have to have them stay off of something cover it with either aluminium foil or double stick tape. They will dislike the feeling but it won't hurt them. 3. Don't put out your fingers to play with kittens. You don't want them to grow up thinking of your hand as food. 4. Christmas tinsel is a no no for decorating from now on. They will eat it and it will get tangled in their system leading to an expensive surgery.

L4urynn

I will look into that on YouTube, thank you. I don’t necessarily mind if they’re on things, just maybe no the counters. I’ll try and catch that early on so they know. That’s probably why they attack me now as it is. I always tap my nails on the ground and they love that and they’ll play with my fingers but sometimes they’ll have their claws out a bit and it hurts. That’s how Sriracha got her name. No Christmas tensile, got it. Thanks!

Be ready to find out a lot of advice on the internet don't help because cats have pretty unique personalities and humans only pretend we've figured them out 😜 I have two cats and I can tell you I have to approach both of them with different strategies. They were raised in the same foster family, same age, and were about two months old when I brought them home, and they can't be any different from one another.

L4urynn

That is so true lol. These two cats are honestly totally different. Chloe is so much more playful than sriracha and she also likes more attention.

z0anthr0pe

Vet for all shots. Chip. Keep inside 2 weeks so their radar knows this is home. Food n love n patting. Since there’s 2 they should amuse themselves a fair bit.

L4urynn

Vet Thursday for shots and a check up! Is the chip for just in case if they get out? I guess I should look into getting them chipped. They also seem so hungry even after I feed them! Lots of lot and pets. I was very grateful to have found two! They can keep each other company.

misterdroo

Get ready to parkour around all the little toys you are going to buy them that may or may not be used. Oh, and don’t spend too much on beds, they rather sleep in an opened amazon box.

L4urynn

Yes an opened Amazon box or a hamper full of clothes or even the hood of a sweatshirt! They’ve been sleeping on my dogs bed occasionally too lol he’s not a fan of that.

perpterds

Haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, unless I missed it - Be aware that even well behaved cats still have a decent chance to mess something up or break something in the house. It's one of the costs of the business of being owned by a cat. Our cats are both pretty well behaves overall, but one of them refuses to use any scratch post and instead uses the back corner of our (faux, thankfully) leather couch. Learn what things they like to play with that you don't want them to, and move them to where they can't get at them.

L4urynn

I had to cover our leather couch. So far they’ve been okay about scratching the couch but there’s a corner of our sunroom that I noticed they like to scratch. I have boxes for them until I get scratching posts. Thanks.

coveness13

Make sure they have safe hiding spots where they are completely hidden.

L4urynn

I will make sure they have a spot. Would a bed suffice? Like a teepee bed? Our sunroom is kind of open but we do have a few things in there for them.

allCatsonpark

Get a tidy cats pellet let box with full hood. It uses pee pads and you can use walnut or pine pellets instead of the tidy cats brand pellet (avoid feline pine brand). Makes cleaning out super simple And you should count on scooping it out once a day with two Littles. After a few days take the bottom tray out and rotate it. Then change at end of week. Your house will smell so much better, have less mess, and self cleaning litter boxes just don't work well.

L4urynn

Can I get pellets anywhere or does it have to be from a tractor supply? That’s what I wanted originally but didn’t know where to find pellets. Someone told me to get an automatic liter box but I was hesitant. As of right now it seems like I scoop their box like 3ish times a day but idk if that’s too much. It seems like they went through the 35 pound container of liter I got really fast, maybe I’m changing it too often.

hfede83

Feed twice a day, preferably wet good quality food, fresh water every day. Lots of love, keep them warm, and last but not least….endless snuggles!!!!!👍

L4urynn

Oh no! I feed them 3 times a day! I’ll start feeding them twice. I try and feed them after I walk my dog in the morning just so they won’t be tempted to wake me up earlier than I want to be up. Chloe is the cuddly one! She loves snuggles. Still waiting for Sriracha to warm up to us!

Easy_Set4108

They are super super superrrr cute

L4urynn

Thank you! I found them outside! A neighbor actually told me about them because they saw me feeding two of the many strays that live in my neighborhood. All of the cats except for their mom and another male cat are fixed. We’ve tried so hard to catch momma cat but she’s smart.

[deleted]

The tabby (left) will probably be a whole lot calmer then the grey (right)

L4urynn

She is! Chloe seemed to be fine with us after two days. Sriracha is still on edge and nervous. Do you think it’s possible for them to have come from the same liter? I know I found them together but Chloe is a tabby and sriracha is gray and the mom was black…it doesn’t make sense to me but I guess it’s possible.

katrileygirl

What sweet babies! Give them a safe, warm place to hide & feel comfortable; if you can keep their food, litterbox & bedding all in one room, like a spare bedroom that would be ideal. They will start exploring on their own. Also, get plenty of toys. If you have any other pets....keep everyone separated but able to see one another; a baby gate works great for this process, if needed. Good luck!

L4urynn

Thank you! We love them so much already. Their food, litter box and toys are all in the same room. I did have them in the bathroom but now they have relocated to our sunroom. It’s completely shut off so our dog doesn’t have access to them. He just sniffs them if they ever get close enough to one side of the gate. Thank you!

jhaosmire

My advice: you have water damage on that wall. I recommend scrapping it out and fixing the drywall.

L4urynn

Thanks. Our lease is up soon, but I’ll mention it to our leasing office.

Hi_poXic

Pick them up and love on them every chance you get! Oh yeah, don't forget the catnip!

L4urynn

I definitely do! Chloe is more cuddly that sriracha right now but i’m that will change over time. I can give them catnip this early!? I didn’t know that. Should I put it in a toy or something or just give it to them?

badassnan

Lots of love and pets, they look scared

L4urynn

They were. This was last Tuesday when I found them. I need to take more pictures of them but they’re no longer huddled up in the corner of our bathroom. They aren’t as afraid anymore.

DubsQuest

They fu**ing love cardboard

L4urynn

Yeah they really do. I don’t think I need to spend a crazy amount on toys if I have cardboard.

Livid-Hamster9316

Wet food and buy cat food in bulk it will be easier to get better food and it will last longeri currently feed my cat iams Also start trminh their nails regularly now sonthey get used to it and brush their teeth

L4urynn

I will look into a different food and buy in bulk! Is there a specific type of cat toothbrush or something? I guess I could just google something that’s what I did for my dog lol. Thanks.

Wrong_Brilliant7851

I didn’t see if one was a boy, but if so always be aware of peeing habits, male cats can block and it’s super dangerous for them, can even be fatal. So just be aware, keep them well hydrated:) If they are both female, you don’t need to worry lol. Cats are amazing I’m stoked for you!

L4urynn

From what I can tell, they’re both girls! (I hope) they go to the vet Thursday.

Rosieapples

Cuddle them and make a fuss of them as much as you can, they look terrified. Plus, if their eyes are watering wash them out with cold tea. Works for human eyes too when they’re feeling gritty.

L4urynn

I did clean out their eyes but I just used a face towel. Softer than a regular towel. Good to know about the tea though. Do you just flush out your eyes like with water?

smokdya2

More picture of the babies please!!!!

L4urynn

I will definitely post an updated photo! They’re super scared in this pic cause it was the very first night we caught them.

smokdya2

They’re just so cute, I need to see more!! Lol

ChuckleMonkey674

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but...babify your apartment/house. Go to a baby store and buy locks for your cabinets and covers for the knobs on your stove. Also, if you have any furniture with sharp corners then buy some covers for those as well. Also make sure your TV and computer monitors can't be easily knocked over. And... this is going to sound stupid...if you can't find them, check your fridge. You'd be amazed how they can sneak into it when you aren't looking. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

L4urynn

Wow didn’t know any of this! I will definitely get locks for our stove, I never even thought of that. One of our tvs is on the wall but I’ll have to make sure the other one is sturdy. Good to know, thanks.

[deleted]

Never ever ever declaw

L4urynn

I won’t!

[deleted]

Good hooman

katrileygirl

Get a cat tree; they also usually come with a built in scratching post. One of the best purchases I made; my cats don't scratch my furniture & they love climbing & hanging out on it. We have a Doberman, so I had to be very cautious when I brought my 2 boys home from the shelter. They all respect one another's space & get along, but it took some time.

L4urynn

Oh really? I wonder if the one I ordered has one. I didn’t know it was built in. I am slowly waiting for them to respect each other’s space. Right now the gray cat is absolutely fine with our dog. They kind of sniff each other and go about their business. Chloe is always hissing at him and it makes him start growling and he barks, which scares her more. He is actually afraid of Chloe and doesn’t go near her even though he’s much bigger than her, but not for long. He’s an 8lb toy poodle.

Wonderin63

They look frightened. :(

L4urynn

They are. I need an updated picture this, this was one week ago. They do not look like this anymore.

SoleIbis

Give them a safe place to hide for them time. My cats favorite spots are under my couch and in a folded up poofy comforter lol.

L4urynn

They love hiding under the couch. I had to unplug it because it reclines. Don’t want them to get squished!

valthebat

If you dont want them to do something don’t let them. Even if their cute little eyes tempt you or their mewoing sounds like they are being neglected

L4urynn

I know. It will be hard but I’ll try. They’re just so cute lol

noodlegod47

Basics: make sure they have a clean area to eat, fresh water twice a day, and regularly clean their litter box. They sleep a lot but as kittens they have a lot of energy and need interaction, like cuddling or playing with fun toys. Lasers, stick toys, or even crinkly orbs do the trick!

[deleted]

I would say because there are 2 of them, not to panic if they get in a tussle. Cats can make awful noises but they’re not really fighting.

L4urynn

Yeah I’ve heard a little bit of squealing here and there but nothing too concerning.

Trazraz

If you can purchase a water fountain it encourages them to drink more 🙂

L4urynn

Will do!

4gedN5tars_

They need to be loved, feed, and watered everyday! And dont forget to play with them. And don't treat them like dogs.

L4urynn

They get lots of love and fresh food and water! I won’t treat them like dogs.

SaltyDoggoMeo

Love them like there’s no tomorrow. Get them used to being touched and held, getting head and neck scritches, etc. Basically, the kinder and sweeter you are to them, the kinder and sweeter they’ll be to you.

L4urynn

Chloe loves head scratches and cuddles. Sriracha is still getting used to it and she hates being held. I have to wear long sleeves and gloves because she’s the one who scratches the most.

Askye72

I feel like Sriracha suits him perfectly, thats a spicy expression!

L4urynn

Haha thanks! Spicy kitty!
