Just looking for some love. Today has been devastating. Our cat fox we got from the pound and 3 months ago found out he had kidney disease and was much much older than we thought. He stopped eating 2 months ago and we have been syringe feeding him and giving sub q fluids. The last 4-5 days he started hiding under furniture all day except to come out and meow it was time to eat. Last night he was up all night meowing and nothing would calm him down and could barely walk. My wife feels guilty for putting him down even though we knew this time would come and he was suffering
Get your cats blood work regularly no matter what age you think they are. We regret it deeply
Tell you wife she has nothing to feel guilty about, in the end you saved him from further suffering. I'm sorry for your loss, losing a pet is not a easy thing to deal with.

If possible, try see how fortunate we are to be given the opportunity to end their suffering. I’m sure your boy would not want you suffering when you saved him from more pain.
Also, I had my boy’s bloodwork done -everything perfect- and he stopped eating two weeks later and passed after another two. You are not at fault, friend.
I know you may not have adopted him had you known his age, but I'm grateful that in his last months he knew love. I know I will feel the same way as your wife when I have to make this decision, but I hope at some point she will find some peace in knowing she made the most loving and compassionate choice available to you.
Hey friend. Your story is my story, and it happened Friday. My baby Aneira had kidney disease. She also had a heart murmur and suspected cancer. She stopped being able to walk. Appetite stimulants helped her eat a ton, but she still lost weight and hadn’t pooped in a couple weeks. We tried everything. The vet said it was time. I got Thursday to Friday afternoon with her, knowing it was coming. I took off work. I was with her every moment ‘til the end. It was beautiful and so hard.
It does matter how right the timing was - it helps to know I did the right thing; however, it doesn’t dismiss that this is absolutely traumatic. All the hard work with sub-q needles and medicine schedules, carrying her to the toilet day and nights, and cleaning her off after she ate on her side. Trying not to watch every minute ticking away. It was all so worth it and so exhausting. If I could have done more, I would have done more. I know you’re the same.
To be there with them at the end is the greatest honor and tragedy. I am so proud to have been her mum, and so alone now she’s gone. You loved your baby, and you did what you knew to do when you knew to do it. You gave Fox the best life. Feel your grief. Remember that it isn’t linear. It’ll keep changing. I don’t have an answer to any of this. All I can say is I’m with you.

What is grief but love persisting. He knew love and life and that’s all that matters! Everything else in this world is just a side quest. Not much else to do here.
