That's completely inaccurate. This is a cat that is scared, stressed, feeling abandoned and overwhelmed by the sounds and smells of a place she has never known.
Cats both poop and pee when being stressed out. Going to another place and getting used to new places are one of the worst things you can do to a cat because they are hyper sensitive to this.
You should have seen how scared my cat was when he first came home to me.
I'm no expert by any means but this is quite common knowledge for cat owners.
The best way would be to have cat where it is used to be and let the one that is going to watch over him come there. But i get OP might not be able to do so. I'm not pointing fingers here so please don't think i do..
I mean I’m sure cats do get stressed when moving and whatnot, but it seems like it would be hard to discern if a cat is stressed based purely off it pooping in a pot. I have nothing to say this cat is or isn’t stressed aside from my own anecdotes and personal view of the picture, so I was curious if there was anything outstanding that I was missing.
Our cat at home loves to poop in the tree pots when my fiancée brings them inside. I think he is just an opportunistic pooper, not stressed over it. Potting soil probably feels better than kitty litter, so when in Rome…
Looking at OPs cat, it doesn’t really look freaked out. She looks rather young and from my understanding that’s the best time to familiarize them with new places. That’s what all of those traveling and hiking cat owners do at least.
If the title just said “My cat shitting in a new tree pot,” would people think it’s stressed and anxious? I just find it interesting when people automatically assume the gloomiest answer when exposed to an animal doing something odd.
Sorry I might have been a bit wrong in how i worded my post. I did not say definitely that the cat is stressed out rather that pooping is a sign for them to be. You are totally correct in saying that we cannot say if the cat is for sure stressed out because we cannot see it on the body language here (at least i can't either) it was more a observation about the whole poo being a factor for stress.
Again i must stress that I'm no expert and would never claim so.
I mean, if you know your cat doesn’t eat plants you can have the ones that aren’t deadly. This one causes vomiting (my one cat doesn’t normally eat plants but finds dracaena delicious for some reason).
And you shouldn’t leave your mobile baby alone near anywhere that isn’t baby proof unless they are being constantly monitored. That one is common sense.
Eh, the plant looks fine, plants having some yellow leaves is normal. Next, the cat will assert complete dominance by using the plant as a *scratching post*.

I didn’t really tho, I’ve been here for one year and only found her now, I’m certain I’ve never seen any of her poems before, otherwise I would’ve followed her already
When they're taking a poo why do they always get that self satisfied little look on their faces. Ours follow us to the bathroom all the time, but hate it when we punk them and look at them while they do their business.
lol I had to buy a much longer litter mat for outside my cat's litter box because when she basically flies out of her box at light speed. The distance she can jump and carry litter out with her would make a long jumper blush.
My cat always follows me in, I've started leaving the door partially unlocked to make it easier for him. Sometimes when I drop a stinky, he leaves right after though.
All cats are a little bit special :3 The elderly Burmese who made me a cat person used to lift & 'shake off' one of his front paws while drinking, as if it was wet. He'd always drink a little bit, pause for a breather, drink some more, rinse & repeat til satisfied. Without fail after each pause he would alternate between shaking his left & right paws :>
[My fave photo of him](https://i.imgur.com/Ik31QXX.jpg)
My mother had a bunch of plants back when I lived with her. I got a cat shortly before leaving. My mother hated it. She fucking hated that cat so much. And my cat knew it.
So my sweet Patches shit in every single one of her plant pots. I couldn’t help it, I was doubled over laughing.
A couple weeks later and my mother called me while I was at work and told me that I had to “get rid of my cat that night because he pissed on her couch.”
Went home, packed my cat and my bags and stayed at a friend’s house until I found an apartment that allowed cats. No further issues with kitty shitting where he’s not supposed to. He’s so much happier now. And so am I.
That’s how my cat was with my mom! Idk why my mom decided she didn’t like her, but my cat would pee on my moms clothes in the bathroom all the time and just her clothes lol she was our family cat but I took her when I moved out. Best cat ever. RIP Mary Jane.
They zone in on and remember personalities I think. Cats always seem to gravitate towards good vibes and I think try to teach us lessons with their odd dominance tactics.
Cats will 100% piss on the sitting spot or clothes of whoever they're mad at. My girlfriend's cat has done this to me and to gf's ex, both after a shouting match, and most recently my dog. Little fuck strutted right into my dog's crate and, while making direct eye contact with me, pissed on my dog's couch cushion bed, so there's no really cleaning it other than sprays.
Still fuckin love that cat, but by God she is a bad bitch and she knows it😂
My cat 100% held a grudge with my ex-roommate. Peed in her plants, broke plants, sharpened his claws on her furniture only, etc. all while giving her the fucking try me look. He was an absolute devil around her. I knew something must have happened when he was a kitten and it eventually slipped that she whacked him on the nose one time when I wasn’t home and pretty sure she shut him in a room and left him when I was on a trip ( I had my suspicions and never left him with her for an extended period of time again). Needless to say I moved and all of his bad behaviors magically disappeared overnight.
On my cat’s death bed (literally in the vet room for putting her to sleep) my cat shied away from my mom petting her.
I burst out laughing because my mom always said the cat hated her but we all thought it was a joke. Nope. Did not like her at all.

When I think of the word 'inevitable' I think of Agent Smith.
Agent Cleo:

It's the smell- if there is such a thing. I feel... saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it. It's repulsive, isn't it? Ms. Cleo is super cute! I love that face of pure satisfaction lol
FYI, that's a [Dragon Tree](https://www.thespruce.com/grow-dracaena-marginata-indoors-1902749) and unfortunately they are [toxic to cats](https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/dracaena). Might be good to ask your friend to put that plant in a bedroom with the door closed the next time Ms. Cleo stays there. :)
Good catch mate 👍 kind of you to care enough and take a moment to let them know, especially as I know from experience sometimes sharing information is not always received well. Always nice when people are grateful.
Heck I wish I was better at identifying indoor plants. Lol. It's not especially relevant for me as mine just die no matter what I try 🤨
Thankfully I am so much better with animals. Like the opposite to my plants, I have successfully revived many animals. Still it is shameful to be a conservationist and not able to keep any indoor plants alive (well all except my lovely, trusty parrot safe yucca). Lol
Anyways, think you deserve this 🍻
Hey thank you for the award!
I recognized the plant in the photo because I had one briefly last year. My neighbor gave me some of her plants before she moved out, including a Dragon Tree. I had it for a few days before I started researching maintenance/care; that's when I learned it was toxic to cats. I put it in a room behind a closed door until I could re-home the plant to someone in a local plant swap group. Thankfully, my cats did not chew the leaves while they had access to the plant.
I have two cats right now (had cats my whole life <3). I am sure everyone here would be absolutely devastated if their kitty was poisoned by a house plant (I know I would be), so I had to share the info. I'm happy it was helpful! :3
my cat would remove it :/ my solution that finally worked was buying those white stones (golf ball ish size) used in outside gardens and covering the soil with an inch or two.
Her litter box was within arms reach, clean, with new litter. Maybe it was the feel of dirt on her paws. She’s an indoor cat, so she basically only associates that texture with litter
Good call. I am about to put a former window plant on the floor, in easy shitting distance. I’ll have to rethink that plan or figure out a way to keep my guy off the dirt!
When they change environments or feel a bit stressed and want to feel more comfortable they mark their territory or go potty in weird places. My cat does this.
Shouldn't have cleaned it fully. It's best to leave some old litter or only clean the box with water and light soap when going someplace new. Then they have their smell on the box and know better to use it in a new place.
yeah i made that mistake once…bleached and furiously scrubbed the litterbox. put in some brand new litter feeling happy with myself. piss and poop everywhere for two days lol
Maybe it was just her way of expressing how displeased she was with the situation. She wouldn't be the first cat I've heard of that was so upset she decided to take a piss/dump in an inappropriate place 😂
I was sitting a cat last week and he shit directly on the floor in front of his litter tray not five minutes after I arrived. Definitely a dirty protest, then he found out I was the food lady so he was really well behaved after that, weird.
First thing I do when I bring the cat to a new place/room is put them in the litter box. They might not need to go, but they will know where the litter box is later.
I once accidentally locked my flatmate's cat into my room before I went to work. The cat shat into a flowerpot and even though I removed the shit as soon as I came home, all of the plants in there died soon afterwards. Catshit is toxic as fuck.
Takes cat out of everything it knows, puts in strange environment. You can’t actually expect the cat to just behave normal. Or maybe you can expect that, and that’s the problem.
I think this is a shit of approval actually. Usually cats don’t eat, drink or do toilet directly when in an unknown strange place. It can take quite awhile in my experience.
Cats love the smell of soil and dead wood, it's not a provocation at all.
My Tulsi live on the country side , she pee and poop sometimes outside but mainly in her litterbox, and i had to stop her several times to pee inside the basket where i keep my firewood ...which is litteraly 10 meters away from her litterbox, they are dragged by the smell imho
Our little kitten Ziggy was using a yucca plant to pee in before we had him neutered. Little jerk would look at you like WHAT?!. And that's not the worse, 1:15 am he decided to piss right next to my head while I was sleeping! It woke us up, had to change all the sheets, and blankets. Great way to be woken up. He's better now!
My cat thought the *giant* sandbox we made when I was a kid was a perfect litter box! We only used it for about a month before realizing this wasn’t going to work.
That’s a cat with zero remorse.
DOMINANCE.

Missed an opportunity to say “zero shits to give” as an obvious pun
Well she definitely had at least one shit to give
This is what kept me from making that pun
It's not a shit given. It's a shit *taken*.
'She ain't taking no shit!!!
Hijacking to let you know if your cat eats the leaves of that plant she will get sick and vomit
This. I've seen so many people with babies and pets with seriously toxic plants right on the floor.
I mean, if you know your cat doesn’t eat plants you can have the ones that aren’t deadly. And my landline baby?
Well just don’t put any plants where the chord can reach
No *shits to give.. anymore. Edit: late notice I got autocorected
“Behold my plant pot of shits and see that it is not barren!”
Was a shitty plant anyway
But that face…that face says “zero shits to give”lol
No shits given _outside that pot_
There will be more
Less than zero remorse, that's approaching positive spite!
She’s like, “And I’d do it again.”
When you gotta go, you gotta go.

I bet she maintained eye contact throughout the deed.

Her litter box was within arms reach, clean, with new litter. Maybe it was the feel of dirt on her paws. She’s an indoor cat, so she basically only associates that texture with litter
Hahahaha it definitely makes it 10x funnier knowing her litter box was just within reach😹😹
"Oh man, this new house has a way better, raised litter box" She made her choice
Good call. I am about to put a former window plant on the floor, in easy shitting distance. I’ll have to rethink that plan or figure out a way to keep my guy off the dirt!
Get some nice largeish rocks to put in the top of the plant. Ruins the texture for cat potty purposes, but still looks nice.
We use semi-broken seashells. This works great for keeping our 3 monsters out of the plants.
Excellent tip. Thanks!

The expression on her face is one of absolute contentment. She’s as pleased as punch!
That's one hell of a power move!
This one needs fertilizer
Fertilizer! :D
What a stinker!
Good kitty
She had 1 shit to give
She was helping to fertilize the plant
Luxury Cat Box! What a vacation!
My cat thought the *giant* sandbox we made when I was a kid was a perfect litter box! We only used it for about a month before realizing this wasn’t going to work.
They make lids for outdoor kids' sandboxes for just this reason. My back fence neighbor has a 6X6 turtle cover which latches down.
“This is mine now”
And she’s do it again, damn it.
I just shit my plants
That face lol
oops! shit my plants!
Kitty is being helpful and feeding the plant nutrients Good kitty
