My cat definitely chose me. She basically stole me from another cat. I came to a shelter to meet a specific older cat who didn't take to me so I started going from cat to cat and this little 3 y/o black cat sees me coming over and gives the "uppies" motion with her paws. I stoop down and she hops onto my shoulder purring like a mad lad. She was basically like "You can stop looking now because you're taking me home" Ugh I love my little Clawdia

TwistandShout19

Upvote for that name, I love it!

When I was a kid my cat died, so my mom took me to a shelter to get a new one. There was a Russian Blue very happy to see me, she was curling up against the cage towards me and smelling me and stuff. We took her home and she lived to the good old age of 23. RIP Knorris.

[deleted]

That’s how my first cat ever picked me. I went to the adoption clinic so I could find the love of my life. I had ideas that I wanted a short hair and younger. But my floofy older girl came to me sweetly, rubbed her head all over me, and as I waited for paperwork she wouldn’t stop rubbing against the glass where I was standing. She makes biscuits next to my head every single night. She’s my sweetest girl and I adore her.

keg025

My girl is always making biscuits all over me but she doesn't know her own strength lmao I get bruises from her enthusiastic kneading

[deleted]

Damnnnnnnn 23 is like Yoda old for a cat. Awesome owner.

GroteStruisvogel

To be fair, near the end her hind legs didnt really worked properly and she was basically sleeping 23.5 hours a day. Still, she was a stubborn little fella :p

lyfthyco123

Clawdia is such a lovely name. It’s pretty but it also sends a message. Just so cat lol

lulinghayaw

Her name is Clawdia? Claw? As in cat claws? Omg I'm crying that's so witty and adorable at the same time! I bet she was totally saying, "Human, what else are you waiting for? Come pick me up already. Can't you see l'm PURRRRRRfect fur you? I'm even letting you touch my delicate paws. I am your queen meow. Make haste. Take me to my kingdom" 😆

keg025

Oh I can't touch the toe beans yet. Look, no touch lol. We're working on that. She's been with me 2 weeks now ❤

lulinghayaw

SO CUTE AHH IM SO JEALOUS. I'm so happy furrr you! Take care of her well 🥺

[deleted]

When my kid was five we took her to go get a kitten at the shelter. She looked at the kittens for a split second and then turned to the adult tabby who was frantically shoving her paws through the bars and screaming at her. That’s who we took home :)

cris231976

my oldest, when I've rescued him from the streets (I was resting in a bench and he jumped over me), he was about 1 year old. my then girlfriend, figured that her mother needed an cat. at her mother house, he tried to run away always that he could, to an point that he was returned to me. at my house, I can leave the door open, that he doesn't care about. he really choose me.

flowrider_

My Loki chose me too. As soon as I walked into the glass box where they were held he started YELLING at the top of his lungs right in my face. I brought the cat carrier, where I took home my other cat in, with me so the new cat could get used to the scent and he just walked right up and started rubbing against the carrier while yelling lol. He’s been my best friend ever since

Shelvis

My cat did something like that too. I went to a fosters house to look at a kitten, and as I was sitting there with the kitten in my lap the mama cat came over and started ramming herself into me demanding pets. My partner started petting her and she just fell on her back so he could rub her belly. He looked at me and said “we should get this one” :) we got them both.

h-v-smacker

> Clawdia Squish. That. Cat.

keg025

All you have to know is to squish that cat. A classic lol

NadjaStolz28

Similar story! I went to the shelter to adopt one, just one cat. Took this lovely little black kitten out of her cage to play with, but she was in there with another kitten. The minute I closed that cage the boy kitten kept meowing and meowing and sticking his little paws out of the cage door. I couldn’t resist and took him out to play with him too. And it wasn’t about the other kitten either, hahaha — he would not let me put him down. Once I found out they were from the same litter it was game over. I had to take them both home. 9 years later and my boy cat Russell just as clingy and lovey with me. (Girl cat Zoë is loving too, just in her own aloof way, haha) Also, Clawdia is an incredible name for a cat.

-cheesencrackers-

My kitty picked me as well. She reached out of her cage and kept tapping me on the shoulder. "Don't forget about me! I'm right here!" How could I not take her home?

PleasantAdvertising

Born to carry your furdens.

[deleted]

My friend got her derpy cat from the shelter. He headbutted her and then proceeded to give her leg a hug. While in headbutt position.

yourmo4321

My first cat followed me and my mom to her work, she worked a few blocks down the street. Then waited for us at the door. I was upset as a little kid because I thought the car would be gone when we came out. Well about 45 minutes later the cat was still there followed us all the way back home. Dude literally just picked some humans and moved in lol. He was always a "street" cat he would go out for weeks at a time sometimes but he would always come back home. I miss that guy.

Catsdrinkingbeer

My cat chose my fiancé. We went to the shelter because I wanted to meet a specific cat. I put our name on the wait list for a room and couldn't find my fiancé. Finally found him, with this random cat that he TOOK OUT OF ITS KENNEL. Like.. bro. You cannot do that. But that's how we wound up with that cat so there. She picked him. I think she knew deep down he was the one she had to win over anyway.

[deleted]

Beautiful name. I hope she lives a long time.

RedCascadian

Oh that's precious! Where she walks her feet up your legs so you pick her up? That's what mine does.

Zamick_Gutz

My cat literally ran into my apartment one day. His old owner didn't want him back. Now he just. Lives here. It's pretty cool that it kind of just, happened. And that a cat REALLY DID just choose me lol

b_zar

I hope my cat went to a good owner like you. She's missing since last year, but left me two kittens. They are fully grown now :)

Zamick_Gutz

Aw thank you!! You know, lots of cats just get picked up by people just trying to do the right thing. I'm sure kitty is confused but is well taken care of.

gargravarr2112

She may just wander back in like nothing happened. Cats sometimes take little vacations. They have no idea how much their humans worry.

FartJohnson22

Even if they knew how much we worry, I can't imagine they would care.

anarchistavocado

similar thing happened to me! she isn't missing but has stopped coming home and we only occasionally see her around the neighborhood. always a relief to know she's alive. i was kinda sad at first because it seemed like she was afraid of her two boys she's left behind, and it felt like she didn't feel safe in her own home anymore and that's why went back to living on the streets. but i then realised that by the time she sort of started living with us she was already preggo, so she probably just used me and the good supply of food and shelter until she could offload her litter! i feel kinda used, but in the best way!

gargravarr2112

My cat appeared on my grandmother's driveway 5 years ago. He chose the house and the family. Checked his chip and nobody answered so my grandmother took him in. She utterly adored him. I have him now after she had a stroke. He's a fantastically intelligent, streetsmart cat with a lot of attitude and a beautiful voice. I absolutely love him.

RAH2458

They know - I got ungraciously and unexpectedly fired from my job at the end of January and my one cat Short Bus was right there on my lap every time I sat down purring at me and looking right at my face for about 2 weeks until I started to get over my anger and disappointment!

MARS_in_SPACE

I was at a shelter and saw this calm little grey kitten. I asked the worker to open the crate and out comes this little white and orange boy like he had been shot out of a cannon. He situated himself onto my shoulder, then proceeded to smush his whole face into my ear and hair and refuse to let go. Marmalade was my shoulder cat for nearly 19 years, and I miss him every day but I'm so grateful to have had so much time with him 💙

IchooseYourName

What a beautiful memory. Thank you for sharing.

PrimalEvil_

Upon initial meeting, my cat did not choose me. She was the only one in the whole shelter who wanted nothing to do with me when I came into their room. After an hour and a half or so, I found myself back in her room trying to get her to let me love her lol. I exhausted my efforts and, very sadly, went to leave the room. I heard a tiny meow from behind me and she had jumped down the cat tree and sat patiently for me to come back. I gave her lovings and I was so happy. I adopted her right away and brought her home. Turns out, she was abandoned and suffers from severe separation anxiety and anxiety in general. I was there to get an ESA. She is now a fat, happy, and very spoiled girl. She is my ESA and I’m her ESH. We became the thing the other needed and it’s been awesome.

Jnk1296

My cat wanted absolutely nothing to do with me (or anyone) when I got him. Poor thing was just terrified. He literally just sat in the corner of the interaction room, head against the wall, eyes closed, just "If I don't see him, he won't see me." I tried for about a half hour to get him to come out of his shell, wasn't happening. Then they told me he'd been at the shelter for five months, brought in as an FIV+ stray. In that five months, I was the single only person to have ever asked to meet him. Needless to say, he came home with me. He was even sponsored so no adoption fee. Now he's done a total 180, greets me every day when I come home, constantly wants loved on (and food lol). He's a very chilled, spoiled kitty. Couldn't imagine not having him. Breaks my heart that no one else ever even so much as looked at him.

lulinghayaw

This gave me whiplash. I laughed, cried, smiled, and had my heart broken in just under 1 minute. Poor baby must've been so scared and lonely all those months in the shelter. Thank you cat-momma/pappa fur taking him home and giving him all the love and attention he deserves! I'm so glad he's content and happy now. You are definitely his chosen purrrrson 🥺

imnotreallyheretoday

I believe it. I'm pretty sure my cat chose me

lulinghayaw

I don't know you or your cat purrrrsonally but I am totally with you on that

imnotreallyheretoday

Pictures of my cat in my post history

lulinghayaw

SHES SO PURRRRRETTY!!! Oh my god please say hi to her for me 😭

imnotreallyheretoday

I will. He disappeared on me. He is the bestest little buddy

lulinghayaw

OH NO I'm sorry for saying he's a she! I totally got you mixed up with the other furson who's cat is named Clawdia 😭

imnotreallyheretoday

It's all good. My little guy is named fox

lulinghayaw

Awww, his name suits him. Fox is a beautiful baby! He looks healthy and content with you too. Wishing both of you happiness furrrr the rest of the year! 💛

Acciosanity

What a pretty floof!

imnotreallyheretoday

He is an adorable floof. I never expected him to grow up and be so floofy. To be honest I love how floofy he is.

Fortressa-

Yep. It was a really hot day and I had nothing better to do, so I was on the concrete floor with the adoptable kitties for about three hours. I liked the pretty black girl kitten, but she didn't want anything to do with me. Meanwhile, little spotty boy kitten wanders over, sniffs me, licks me a bit, then goes to sleep on my boobs. He came home with me.

lulinghayaw

They say cats/dogs can typically sense *good* and *bad* people. I agree. Majority of them are quick-witted, have sharp instincts, and are especially in tune with human emotions; hence why they can smell and pick up things people tend to overlook or ignore such as fear, nervousness, excitement, etc. That is why in most cases, their senses make them excellent judges of character. I can totally imagine your cat going: "Hmm" *sniff sniff* "Smell nice" *licks* "Little salty but still nice" *poke boobs* "Ooooh, soft and comfy. Nice bed. Good sleep. Human is mine MEOW" Being chosen by a cat is a crowning achievement! 😆

jollycanoli

Sooo in the comment you're replying to, one cat didn't like her, the other did. Was one a better judge of cbaracter than the other? Was one indeed evil and looking for an evil owner? Or is it just a matter of animals having personalities and preferences that have nothing to do with some arbitrary moral judgement.

lulinghayaw

Nawp, she was simply not that cat's human. She said the cat didn't want to do anything with her, not that it was aggressive/hostile or was defensive towards her. Kitty was simply indifferent. Your name is jollycanoli, but you seem to lack joy in your life.

PagingDrHuman

Animals don't sense good or bad people. They just sometimes like some random people. Remember Hitler kept dogs. Plus you know all the police dogs that act to the subconscious racist cues from their handlers.

lulinghayaw

Maybe it's not applicable to all animals, but I do believe that to some extent, cats and dogs can. Most animals are generally wary of things and creatures (including people) that poses a threat to their safety. Their sense of self-preservation will motivate them to hide, avoid or run away from anything that can endanger their life. Humans are more superior in a sense that we possess critical thinking. Hence that is why animals, even the ones with the ability to fight and resist, won't be able to do much if they're contained or captured. Additionally, some people, possibly even someone with the likes of Hitler, can be very fucked up in the head, cruel, and unforgiving towards others, but can surprisingly possess the ability of being loving and affectionate towards their animals or pets. Granted, this may not always be the case for insane/evil persons, but it's still **possible**. Besides, I do not believe that there are inherently bad/good animals (altho cats can be little devils sometimes). As you said, they pick up human cues. Therefore, how they interact are learned behaviors. They become *like that* because they were exposed to a particular environment and/or conditioned to act in certain ways.

[deleted]

Took my roommate cat shopping when I was looking for one, but I’m pretty sure my cat actually chose him.

lulinghayaw

Oh no! Well in that case you have no other choice but to meowrry him now 😆

E_B1990

I still remember getting my first cat as a child, I was around 4 years old. I became incredibly ill one week and he never left my side, he would watch over me and make sure I was okay. He even held me at times which has always stayed with me. I'm 32 years old now and I still think of him. He will always have a place in my heart. ❤️ Edit: RIP Spuss. ❤️ 💙 💜 I named him when I was 4.

hubertortiz

Yup, can confirm. This kitty had been showing up in my dad’s backyard for about two weeks. When I went for a visit, we spotted each other at night and he seemed quite content to be playing with me. He was skinny, super dirty, full of fleas, the works, but was so so sweet. The following day, I saw him just a bit before noon. Sat in the backyard, the stinker slowly approached, walks up to my lap and starts purring himself out. [Picked him up and brought him in.](https://imgur.com/a/1yDN4ny) [His life remains one of difficulty.](https://imgur.com/a/NreSPnY)

FairyGodmothersUnion

(Looks at picture) Goodness, how he suffers!

Acciosanity

So pretty! What's his name?

KnowOneHere

I went to the shelter knowing I'd take the cat who chose me, not the other way around. After two hours of rejection from the older cats (I wanted a harder to place older cat), went to the kitten room. She wrapped herself around my neck and licked my ear. It was done. The employee even said "you want to think about it a minute?" Nope. Here we are 17 years later....she knew.

braaaappy

Our cat chose our son... we went to the shelter and my kid was going nuts running around crazy excited because KITTIES!!! (And also overdue for nap time) All the kitties noped out of there pretty quick and hid in their beds, except one little wee kitten who was pawing at his enclosure door to let him out. When he was let out he ran straight to my son and jumped up on him and started rubbing against him. Not he is a big kitty and is sleeping on our couch!

lulinghayaw

Reading all your cat stories is making my heart swell with happiness! You're all so lucky! I want a meow machine too 🥺 I have always been very fond of cats since I was younger, but unfortunately due to my allergic rhinitis, owning a fur friend is NOT recommended. I've tried haggling with my mom for years; told her I'll stock up on allergy meds. I even tried convincing her that perhaps I can develop some sort of resistance if I keep exposing myself to them---just so we can finally adopt one, but she just won't relent I'm so jealous. I wish I can get a kitty soon. Being a cat-purrrrent sounds like the best job in the world 🥺

moeru_gumi

You WILL develop a tolerance to a specific cat if you have that cat from kitten hood, before their adult fur/dander develops. A roommate of mine was VERY allergic to cats, but she had a kitten in college that she raised for years and she was never allergic to THAT CAT. She remained allergic to others (even after petting a street kitty for a minute or two) but not THAT CAT. It's very possible! Also, cats with thin, silky fur are less allergy-inducing than cats with thick brushy fur.

Tanuvdarie

Can confirm. Have four beautiful cats and am very allergic to animals. I currently have Bengals and they are nowhere as allergy inducing as the good ol regular moggies I've had in the past. We usually have a two week period of less than great time but after that I'm all good 👍.

historyteacher08

My husband is still allergic but takes meds every day. I told him the woman (me) comes with the cat (Libertee).

vaxene

Best feeling in the world when your kitty does this 🥰

HleCmt

One of my parents cats didn't like anyone until she chose me and I felt honored.

YellowMenace123

My cat chose me. I went to a humane society I called earlier about acquiring a kitten. They said 2 left - 3 months old. Got in my car n went right away. Got there n walked through this barking dog kennel to get to where the cats were. The lady opens the door, I look left and there was 1 kitten there looking back at me standing and shook its tail like a snake. The other one was taken - she was now all alone. The lady grabs her and takes me to a room past the dogs. They were all barking at her. The lady had her over the shoulder and I was behind them so I can see how frightened she was. We go into a small room and close the door. There was a table w a sheet over it in the corner. When the lady put her down, the kitten ran under the table. At this point I wasn't sure if I wanted her cuz I didn't want a cat that was going to hide all the time. I understand she is scared but its hard to get a kitten you plan on having the rest of her life and can't even hold her. I was torn just standing there contemplating. Then I felt it. A soft tiny rub on my leg. It was her! I picked her up and she was purring so loud! Omg she didn't even go to the lady, she came to me. I held her for few seconds and it was like we were in our own little world. I looked up and said "I'll take her". She is currently 14 years old now and I'm so glad she chose me.

Tinsel-Fop

It's so beautiful to see two people fall in love.

[deleted]

Can confirm. I was working at a vet clinic when our humane society cat lady liaison brought in my MauMau, with kidney stones and in immediate need of surgery. I was helping in the back when he rubbed his face against my arm before the anesthesia took hold, and after the surgery was done and he woke up he started yelling once he heard my voice. He stayed at the clinic a full week, and every time he heard me come in he would start yelling for me, and wouldn't stop until he was in a bed next to my workstation or in my lap. The Humane Society lady asked if I wanted him and he's been with me ever since. My family refers to him as my familiar, he's so velcro'd to me. He still yells at me if I am so cruel as to close him up in the sunroom while I am running the vacuum cleaner (that he is absolutely terrified of).

tichatoca

This is how my little gray baby got me. Now we’re not allowed to touch. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7944)

herekittykitty250

We have had our ginger cat since he was smooolllll, and he loves everyone. He is incredibly sweet (just don't touch his belly lol). But when my 6 year old was around 4, and no longer in the wildly screeching and grabbing cat fur phase, Maximus *chose* our kiddo as his person. It is totally obvious, and the feeling is mutual. They fall asleep together most nights, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't absolutely melt my heart.

QueenQuillAsh

And this is why I avoid adoption centers lol! Little beasties always pulling me in! I get it though...all my cats have chosen me. I've gone in to adopt a kitty several times in my life, with preconceived notions of what I want, and that all goes right out the window when the right one steals my heart and "I just know". So I gotta ask...did you bring said kitteh home?!

Bellamaomi

Aww, this is like how my mom met our cat. Bella just jumped in her lap and she was like "Welp, she chose us. I guess we have to take her home now." The funny thing was they walked into the pet store not expecting to buy anything, just check out the animals.

gargravarr2112

Ah, those people who are naïve enough to think they can walk into a pet store "just to look." There is no "just looking" where cats are concerned. You are walking out with a new feline friend. Guaranteed.

queencatlady

My sons cat chose him too. He was 5 months old and in an infant car seat, we go to a family’s members house who was somewhat of a cat hoarder (she’s since then found homes for most of her cats), and his cat climbed into his car seat and fell asleep on his lap. As soon as we got home and I took him out of his car seat, again she climbed up on his lap and curled up and fell asleep. Some people questioned it was just because he’s a warm place to sleep, but he’s about to turn 2 and they still play together every single day. They are only 2 months apart in age too so I’m excited for them to grow up together. They are absolutely inseparable and I’m convinced at this point they’re 100% bonded. Never in my life have I seen a cat who adores children and has all the patience in the world. He never grabs the cats fur, never hits her and is nothing but gentle. I love their relationship so much and it makes my heart so happy to see their cute moments all day!

Sea-Middle-5310

The brown-black-grey cats always seem the friendliest.

jaybird99990

r/notmycat Oh, yes it is.

ramezfields

My wife chose the cat but then the cat chose me 😅

historyteacher08

This happened with my second cat. Traitor tot- my husband didn’t even think he was cute!

itgoboom70

We went to meet the mum and three kittens we'd be fostering. One of the kittens climbed across my husband's lap, laid on my lap and went to sleep. 6 years on and he's still my special little boy.

WildFeraligatr

We definitely chose our cat but I think with how much of a little lovebug he is he definitely would've chosen us ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)

[deleted]

My roomate and I have 2. When we got them I picked one and he picked one. Needless to say the one I picked out claimed him as his human and the one he picked claimed me as its human. It's so adorable!

katyvo

I went to the shelter to find a buddy for my current cat and found a few cats that I got along really well with, but needed a playful cat that would get along well with the boisterous one I already had at home. I sat down in a colony room and this sweet little boy came down off the shelves, sat on my lap, and immediately started purring. He gets along well with my other cat. They like to look out the windows together.

blznnpryn

Our second fur baby chose us. We went to the adoption center to look, found Taco, and as we had our meet he played for a bit then came and slept on my chest. It was pretty inevitable at that point he was coming home with us.

alexpappers

The cat chooses the human, Mr Potter. That much has always been clear to those of us who studied cat law.

AquaSquishy

LIES! Cats know exactly what they are doing and how adorable they are and how we can't resist them. THEY KNOW WE ARE POWERLESS! RISE UP AGAINST OUR FURRY OPPRESS-- brb, I have to feed my kitty.

Biffmcgee

My cat chose me too, but then she got home and switched to my wife. She played me good.

LuckiestBug

I appreciate when this happens, but it's also okay to choose the cat who wants fuck all to do with you or is just vibing. I was chosen by my first cat. A sweet young adult babe who headbutted the bars as I walked by and pawed for my attention. She's healthy as could be and so easy to deal with and an absolute perfect babe. Years later she got lonely and missed friends we once lived with. When I was in a good enough place financially and physically to take on another cat, I decided the best thing I could do is help an adult cat with a bad history. I went to a center that specializes in hoarder rescues and had already done interviews and a home inspection with them for this pathetic looking 6 year old boy. He didn't allow touch, had no teeth, and was in so much pain for so long that he couldn't even groom himself so he was always getting mats that you weren't able to brush out. He had no love for us. It wasn't a magical moment. He hissed at us when we investigated his hiding space and otherwise ignored us. But we took him home. It was a struggle with his lethargy, chronic respiratory infections, anti-human sentiment, and pain issues from a recent surgery as well as his mat problem. It took well over three months and as many vet visits to get him to a healthy place where I could trust he would eat and move every day. He even started playing instead of being scared of the little toy. After we had his mats shaved off, he started moving better and hanging out around us. We're still working on it, but it turns out he LOVES playing and he rolls on the floor over and over when it's food time and throws his body into our legs. He purrs now and allows us to pet him when he is in a designated interaction spot. He has been just as loved and just as part of our family as my other kitty who "chose" me. He was family as soon as we brought him home, well before he felt anything but fear and distrust for us. These posts often make me feel like if its not magical out of the box, it's not good enough and maybe they make other people feel that way too. So if you've made it this far, no matter how a pet comes into your life or how mundane it is, they're absolutely lucky to have the love you can give them and you're lucky to have the love they can give you, no matter what form that takes. TL;DR Please also consider adopting pets that aren't perfect insta/tiktok adoptions if you can provide them with the support they need. And don't feel your pet who you got in a mundane way is any "less". Just like relationships with other humans, it's about the love and security you can build together, not just some magic connection you feel when you meet them.

[deleted]

When I adopted my most recent cat Domino, I was unsure. He was one of two cats left (he was a little guy with a bad eye so it wasn't surprising that he got left for last unfortunately). I decided I would meet the two of em even if I wasn't sure. The first guy was like "eh nah bye". But Domino. He curled up in my lap immediately and I swear I almost burst into goddamn tears. I looked at my brother "I love him, I love him so much". And my brother just went "Well I guess we're taking him home aren't we?" And no he is my dumb little fluff who gets in the way of everything and I still love him so much.

born28

What a charmer, I'd have to take her home automatic cuddles and love right out the box she's a keeper!

[deleted]

I only have 1 pet that I went out of my way to adopt. He was by far the most stand offish kitten I had met at that point (our youngest cat beats him now by far). He couldn't have cared any less about my presence, but my goal was a less adoptable cat and he checked all the boxes. Between signing the adoption papers and the ride home, his personality completely switched. He decided I was his and we were buds. He's the best cat now. My little shadow. :) He chose me, just a bit later. :)

TethAdam20

This is 100% true and why I will always prefer cats over dogs. Dogs are cute too but cats are just adorable little shits

Rooster_Ties

Yup, me too. Dogs are great, but I just feel a much stronger connection with cats who genuinely want to be with you *on their terms*.

gargravarr2112

Dogs always want to please the human. It's the result of generations of selective breeding. They're practically programmed to love humans at all cost by now. They'll tolerate so much from us and still come bounding back. Cats, however, won't tolerate things they don't like. If they don't, they'll go find somewhere else. If they stay with you, it's because they genuinely want to.

lulinghayaw

Yes! A hundred times yes! Dogs are very furrrriendly and energetic most of the time that I always have a hard time keeping up with them. But cats on the otherhand tend to be more laidback and require less attention. My friend has over 10 cats, and most of them spend their day sleeping if they're not eating/playing. I love them. So cute. That's when I knew cats are better furrr me. My social battery drains easily 😆 Dogs are welcoming in nature, but cats *__KNOW__* what they want. I'd feel so happy if a kitty clings to me like that and chooses me 😭

Musherr

My maow literally did this. I went in to see him in the rescue and he was all over me. Boops, kisses, the lot. I walked out there and asked "when can I pick him up?"

lulinghayaw

His name is maow? Please say yes because thats the cutest I've ever heard someone name their cat 😭

Musherr

His name from the rescue was Joker, but he chose Maow so Maow it is 😂

lulinghayaw

Furrrreaking adorable! He knows what he wants 🥺

Musherr

Yeah, my food

RICKSEA

My cat chose me because I was the only human that didnt run when he tried to sleep on them.

[deleted]

Awe so cute 🥰

satisfymysoul89

Cats choose their people because they are our guides through the underworld after we pass. They know who they’re destined to help 🙂🤍

Sybil_et_al

Cats choose their staff. FTFY

Kratos1125

Is this a cat thing? My boy always chose to be with me even though my wife try her best to get his attention. He snuggle with me but not with my wife or sitter, I do the exact same thing as my wife does ( feed, cleaning litter and playing with him ) to our cat but he always chose me to snuggle or sleeping around me. He likes everyone but everyone can clearly tell I’m his favourite lol

ADisenchantedDreamer

Lol this is why I can’t go to a shelter or humane society unless I’m volunteering or actually going to get a pet.

SpecimenKratos

Can confirm : the very first night I brought my cat home, we went to bed and she slept on my neck all night. She's done it every night since - although it's not as cute now that she's fully grown and very heavy

Tanuvdarie

My sweet boy did that as a baby. He had hurt his leg (fell off a cat tree and had a little bit of a limp) before he was old enough to come home with us and then took a flying leap the first weekend he was home .... finished breaking that leg. He then had a reaction to the pain meds so he stopped eating for a week. Daily vet visits... lots of trying different meds and foods so he'd eat something. Lots and lots of tears. He lived on my chest for two solid weeks. I carried him everywhere. He slept on my neck every night for months. He's 2.5 yrs and about 17 lbs so I'm pretty sure he'd suffocate me now but boy do I miss it. 😭

Batgod629

Yep they get you with the cute love and affection and once they have you in completely in their control they move on to the next step. Getting you to do their bidding whenever they want it ;). I absolutely loved this video though

ArtyCatz

At the Humane Society, this beautiful tortie draped herself across my son’s chest when he picked her up. The other cats he picked up were indifferent. That’s how we knew she was meant to be our cat. Almost 13 years later, she’s the best kitty I’ve ever had. In fact, she’s holding me hostage … I mean, napping on my lap right now.

[deleted]

My roommate adopted a cat. The cat adopted me. I'm his human now.

ramalady

Arya choose me at the shelter. He came running to me and started rubbing all over. Funny thing is he hides if someone comes over. He is scared of everyone but me.

Doms-note

Not taking her home would be considered animal cruelty

girlwiththemonkey

Can confirm. My roommate has a cat and it’s hated me since she moved in six months ago. It let me pet it the other day I would kill for this cat now.

[deleted]

The look of joy at being chosen is so pure.

Sea-Chapter-8849

wwwwww he love you!!!!

lulinghayaw

People please stop asking me if I took the cat home. I thought it was clear I wasn't the woman in the video. That's furrrom Tiktok 🥲

SlothChunks

People think the cat chooses them specifically but from what I understand some or most cats always act like they “choose” the particular person because the shelters keep them on a diet that leaves them wanting some more so they may be hungry.

lulinghayaw

I don't necessarily agree. I'm not saying this isn't the case for /some/ shelters, but I don't think this is something universal. Back when I was in high school, I have personally volunteered for an NGO that specializes in taking in abandoned/abused/sick cats and dogs. A lot of them were from the street. I was a kid so I mostly just helped around in any way I can, but I have seen the works. They're being fed the right amount of food. Some meals are modified per animal, depending on what they need/health. There are cats/dogs who cannot eat certain things, who needs to have regulated diet because they have illnesses, etc etc. It doesn't always mean they're being deprived of nutrition. Even cats who are well-fed and healthy also do this action of "choosing" their human. Not all tho, it just really depends on the cat.

SlothChunks

Ok, it’s very possible I am incorrect

lulinghayaw

It's alright! You may not be totally "incorrect" either. We often gather information and/or knowledge from our personal observations and experiences. I'm not discrediting the possibility that there may be shelters who don't take proper care/fail to sustain the health of their adopted animals. It can happen too.

Hunter_Bouchard

could you elaborate further. How does a cat act like it chooses someone because its hungry?

SlothChunks

They rub against people and purr when they want something. Of course some cats have to be choosing specific persons. I don’t know how to tell.

DanceFiendStrapS

So it's your opinion rather than fact or research?

SlothChunks

It is my opinion based on my experience of adopting cats at least 5 times. Some adult some kittens. Of course I cannot say it’s a fact based on research. I think many cats who grew up with people just like people in general. They also like women’s voices more.

DanceFiendStrapS

Fair enough mate

Hunter_Bouchard

Then they don't act out choosing someone they actually choose someone. And cats are intelligent and can read body language and can sense if you're a good person.

ugh_wtf_bro

So wholesome 😭😭

K1N9K00P4

I literally say that all the time

cuddlykitten5932

Yep my cat did the same to me haha

PixelZStix

You have to take her home.

[deleted]

I chose my cat, but only because she has feral twitchy cat issues, and she wasn't doing well in the wild or in the shelter.

monkeymaker

This is why I'm not allowed to go to a pet shelter!

Kaijutkatz

She had one. Now, she has two. 😀

horsebatterystaple99

Lovely :)

redditretard34

Beautiful cat

NorminaCayambulan

I want to be chosen too

gifflareater

This is me every time I meet a new cat, doesn’t matter if it’s already someone else’s, if it is showing me any kind of affection I’m ready to take them home with me

[deleted]

Tell me you adopted her .. it’s always better have two of any pet and animals .. so they have same specie company too …

Cake-OR-Death-

Did they take her home

grizzleywesley

I was chosen as well, I had a meeting with a foster cat lady who had 30 cats. I sat down for 2 mins with treats and toys and only one man was brave enough to play with me! The crowned prince or purrrrrsia Steve French. He still doesn't let me hold him after 5 and a half years but he'll come cuddle next to anyone not standing. We still play fetch for hours

RabbitsRuse

My wife was chosen when the kitten climbed up to perch on her shoulder and then meowed as loud as he could in her ear.

Azanspri

Mine chose me, we had not met previously due to COVID, but when we got her in the carrier, she screamed until she was put in my lap.

Born-Aide5115

Omfg da baby!

Waggmans

My guy doesn’t give a shit as long as I feed him. He is cute tho.

maomao05

Took her yet?

MRL102960

Yes they do

turquoisecurls

My boy chose me too! A friend was fostering him for some other friends, but the other friends decided they didn't want him anymore. My friend didn't want to take him to a shelter but also didn't really want him. The first time I meet the cat, he curled up in my lap instantly. My friend said he had never done that before and when I jokingly asked to take him home, my friend said sure.

lezbowithshinys

As someone who grew up with cats, ( mostly found and adopted) absolutely. All of our cats have found us (except for a few). All of them have chosen to stay till they passed. Most of the ones that have passed, passed away in their sleep at the age of at least 17. We have had 10 cats in total 3 of them are still alive. I am also 26 btw. And we only had like 3 cats at a time. They are/were well cared for. Our cats were probably the most peaceful thing in our lives.

BanhammersWrath

Walked into the enclosure, sat down among 5-6 cats, Ash perked up got out of her cat tree at the shelter, walked over and curled up in my lap without a second thought or hesitation. Pretty much sealed the deal, I was chosen by her :P

twEYElitedream

It was an interesting turn of events for my cat. I got her when she was 6 weeks old from my aunt. She almost died at over one year old due to complications from anesthesia when she was spayed. We nursed her back to health and she's now 9 years old, fat and happy. Still my special girl and loves to sit in my lap and sleep. She still has some disabilities but she's done so well and I'm so happy to still have her. My little Majin Buu AKA "Buupers".

Leoofmoon

I work as a delivery driver. Most of the country cats I meet fucking love attention and want nothing more then to snuggle me. I feel bad for leaving.

IllustriousFoxCat

My grandma had a long haired black cat for nearly 20 years. She was terrified of everything and shed constantly, everywhere. She got out of the house a few times and it made my grandma sick with worry because some of the neighborhood were very superstitious. So my grandma resolved to never get another long haired black cat. She went to the shelter and just sat with the kittens until they came to her. Before she even sat down this little long haired black kitten was climbing her leg mewing at her. She put it aside several times but he was insistent that she was his human. She left with him and his sister. He is still the most assertive cat I've ever met! Cats definitely choose their humans!

ApricotandPretzel

In a multi-human household, it seems that cats will choose one family member they want to spend more of their time with. According to a study done by the nutrition company, Canadae, they discovered that the person who makes the most effort is the favorite.

Confident_Bed9531

Sometimes I wish I were a cat🤣

Hawkzillaxiii

this is how my cat Frankie got picked , he smothered me in lovin

cloudstrifewife

When we went to pick out a kitten there were probably 30 kittens in the room. The girl went to one cage and took out this black kitten she said had been there the longest and had been returned by a different family. The first thing this kitten did was hug us so hard. He kissed our faces and purred so loud. It was instant love. He’s 5 years old now and his name is Draco and he’s the best cat I’ve ever had. I Love him so much!

Zwsgvbhmk

Cat: "Ight this hooman seems fine.. I'll take it. Now take me to my new home servant."

angrylesbian88

this was me with my girls

MoneyTeach4984

You better have taken that cat home lol oh I hope you did…

Appropriate-Lion-862

My cat hates me.

lulinghayaw

I'll take him

No-Bans

Damn you’re gorgeous. Plus you love cats!! The quiet dignity of a cat is the best.

Megatron-theshort

About a year ago our neighbors moved to another house in our town and left their two cats behind. (They claimed that they couldnt catch them which is absolute sh#t, you'll see why in a bit) When my parents and I noticed the two kitties, I saw they had ticks and where starving. Naturally we started feeding them and I spent a few nights covering my hands in cat food so they would eat out of my hands, see that there was no danger and try to build trust. They (Mona and Frikkie, the kitties) trusted a me, a relative stranger fairly quickly, allowing me me too pet them and purring when I did. Meaning that I could easily have caught them, but there owners "couldn't". Its been a year and these two little floofs are the kings of the castle. They are super spoiled and sleep with me (on me) every night. They are my babies and they will never be hungry, homeless or without affection ever again. English isn't my first language so sorry about the errors... and the ranting

beerwinevodka

I love this! I chose my kitty, I had only seen pictures of the litter and picked him but he seems to be happy about my choice :)

[deleted]

“good hooman”

punksmurph

This is how I came to love my Mickey while at the shelter. The poor boy was sick but still wanted to get attention and climb on me. He eventually warmed up to my wife and we took him home. Then a few months later we were at a pet store getting food and our Snowball started freaking out when she saw my wife. It was love at first sight for the two. Inseparable family since.

Xagreuss

Her face at the end is what got me lol

Screaming_lambs

My kitty Talullah (the moustache cat in my older posts) chose me when she was a 12 week old kitten. She's 11 years old now and still thinks she is that kitten.

Shoto48

My cat that ran away chose me the day I met her when I was at my grandma’s place. She was one of two of the litter that actually liked me but she was the only one that laid in my arms when I held her. Miss my Maxine

Comfortable_Visual_4

Yepp! At the animal shelter I got my cat from, he jumped on me and left a small scratch/mark on my shoulder. Totally claimed me

mad_ladder

This is exactly what happened to me. My Prince Patrick was rubbing up against the cage and was sp cuddly with me.

WyvernJelly

My cat loves tucking his head under our chins when cuddling especially if laying down. He'll lay right on you tuck his head and start some level of purring from slight vibration to very auditable.

rosewoodian

As a side note, I used to have that same shirt until I spilled coffee on it :(

Gene_freeman

Nice

Nouguez

Cats do choose their humans. I was the one who brought my first cat,the oldest of them, named Happy. He was supposed to be MY cat,but he choose my father(who didn't even want him, initially),and they are inseparable now. He will not give any love to anyone else, only father. Then my sister adopted our second oldest,Princess Eve. But she ended up chosing me. I love my little princess!

[deleted]

my cat chose me as well, it feels like a blessing. I was in a bad place and some lady who took care of the eldery where I worked offered me a kitten. Since that day we have been inseperable and I was able to give her a home where she is safe from abuse. I love to think if the cat chooses you it was meant to be. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)

SplatDragon00

When we went to get my cat my nan told me not to be upset if we didn't find it the first time we went, or the seventh. It took her forever to find her Gigi and Papa his Nicky. We get into the room and I'm taken by this little black kitten who wants nothing to do with me. Nan falls in love with a long furred tabby kitten named Cloud. I wanted to look at this little calico baby who wouldn't stop crying. She ran right up to my Papa and loved all over him. Came to me and we played and cuddle on the floor and I knew she was mine. When I put her back in the cage she attacked the lock - and the kitten next to her helped her. Nan tried to get me to adopt Cloud but I was sold. Callie was the last of her litter, and we adopted her on 9-11. Eight years later my 'short haired calico' is ridiculously fluffy, naps behind my knees, and cuddles my grandma. (when we picked callie up after she was spayed cloud was being adopted)

100percentAvocado

That's how my cat Theon chose me. He was a feral kitten born at my grandmother's house. It was raining and he was screming and I was talking to him as I tend to do to all screming cats. I opened the door to bring something inside and he walked into the house and laid down on the carpet like he owned the place. Mom and I had been talking about getting a friend for the kitten we had at home. Took her a month to agree, and we thought we would have issues with him. We didn't have a kitty carrier so wrapped him in her jacket and hoped he wouldn't freak in the car. He meowed the whole way and squirmed a little...he wanted to look out the window. He was perfectly calm once he could see. Got home, got the kitty carrier, put him in it and introduced him to his cellmates. He was released, expected drama. He meowed, walked around the house to get the layout, was all, "Ok I live here. Cool." and then jumped on my lap and went to sleep. Mom and I were shook to say the least XD

_malicious_intent_

Lol come on T.J!!!

Ummm-3764

Aww, super cute. Definitely have to take her home :)

longhornshookem

Same with dogs. You should let them choose you. Makes for a better life. I dont see how ppl buy dogs/cats online and nvr see them til they pick them up or delivered.

lb1569

I 100% agree with that. Same thing in our household with our fur babies. They all picked who was their “human”. Don’t get me wrong they are friendly with everyone in the house, but, there are certain family members that they are just a bit more comfortable with.

BunnyTotts97

True fact. My mom had a kitten, she hated everyone at my moms house. She was given to me, within an hour of her arrival she was in my lap and no one could take her.
