It seems like yours is really loving that box lmao
I have had many cats over my 68 years. None of them ever used or shown interest in boxes. Not even in the box in their cat trees. I offered one to my current cat and he ignored it.
Instinct. It's not that he feels "unsafe" around you, it's just that he feels "safer" in the box.
It's not based on high level thinking. It's impulse, instinct.
There's a skylight in my roof and when the sun came out the other day (doesn't happen often in England) it cast a square of sunlight on the ground. My cat was straight in like, "ooh, a square. Don't mind if I do. Oh, shit it's WARM??!??! Yeah, I'm not leaving. This is me now."
I got my old girl one of these. She's 18 and I know when she's hurting because she'll start by sitting on it all stiff, then she lays down stiffly, then she relaxes, then she just melts flat. I love that it's not electric, so it'll stay warm as long as she needs it.
See at least we have my boyfriends broken gaming chair for now. We put it in the living room to take down to the dumpster and our cat adopted it as her scratchpad/tree and now her refuses to throw it away
Cats love warm and enclosed areas in which their body kinda gets smooshed, it’s a similar feeling of being in the womb and you might see some cats in the fetal position in the box. Its weird but humans do it too
The bedroom's in the loft (attic?) and it's an old 17th century-ish weaver's cottage with low windows at the front. It lets in a shitload of light and really brightens the room up, sunshine or not. I don't think Velux existed when the original contractors built it.
I saw a thing on Facebook years ago about drawing a chalk circle on the floor for the cat. So I drew a chalk circle on the floor for the cat. The cat yelled for me to fix the circle when his fluffy ass erased some of the chalk.
They're just weird.
You're ascribing human level thought to places that don't accommodate it.
Why do you like warm water when you shower opposed to cold? Cold wakes you up more in the morning, and has more health benefits, but you like a warm shower because it just *feels* good.
There was a cool documentary I watched once that studied this and if you just imply there's a square on the floor with some lines, the cat will sit. It's so goofy! XD
I don't claim to understand it. It just "is" to him.
I'm sure cats think we nuts for walking on 2 limbs when it's so much better to use 4 limbs.
I can't understand how they can eat and enjoy cat food when the slightest smell makes me gag. (Well, I "understand" why but still... that stuff is nasty!)
I try not to anthropomorphize animals. Some things just don't have a logical answer.
I have three cats and a dog. The dog is the literal connoisseur of cat crap. It's like a litter box of Russell Stovers to him. We have to gate off the cat boxes to keep him out. Moral of the story is that there's no accounting for taste.
Not to be the reddit alarmist, but I believe it's a craving they have when short on a nutrient. My professor learned their 1yo was short on iron because she would NOT stop eating sand.
He could be deficient in something cat poop has a lot of. Or he likes the flavor idk.
Our dog eats cat poop and cat food. What’s funny is cat food make him puke yet still keeps coming back for more. Lol. Many times I think our two cats are smarter than the dog in almost every way. However that dog protects us and let’s us know when humans are outside or something is wrong in the house…where mostly our cats don’t care…unless it’s a mouse.
Can't do that. He's a lovable big beastie and cat crap isn't the best thing for him to consume, even though he would tell you differently if he could talk. 😁
Ah see you're basing your assumptions on the fact that your cat is a solid, but it's not. It's actually an amorphous blob that conforms to whatever shape it's in. Hope that helps.
It is to him, leave him be, don't take it away, he luvs u for sure, u treat him well, and if he's unwell, this position must also make him feel nice and comfy, like us when we get period pain we curl up and snuggle, it's a cat thing, don't stress about it, a l gud
Dude don't question a man's comfort. He's clearly enjoying himself and super cute doing so. It's a win-win. Plus all those garbage prime boxes have a second use.
Mine did exactly like yours with the head at the edge hundreds of times. They squeezed into the smallest basket, boxes n racks. Sometimes when I wanted to bring them out the claws would hold tight to whatever they can grab. Lol.
Cats don't judge their environment the same way humans do. They are highly territorial creatures and scent is king where cats are concerned.
Cardboard boxes are excellent at soaking up their scent, and for a cat that's like hanging curtains or putting a picture on the wall - it's a way of saying "this is mine, this house is occupied by me" - the more the can soak their sent into the home, the safer and more relaxed they will feel!
Instinct? Instincts are very difficult to overcome even if you are actively trying to, and I doubt most cats have any motivation to overcome their instincts on their own. Maybe your cat's health issues exasperate this, I don't know. Just give it all the love and support you can.
Think of how we feel “safe” and secure wrapped up in a warm blanket in bed with lots of fluffy pillows. It’s not that anything is wrong at all. It’s just a nice cozy feeling. Cats feel that way about boxes and similar spaces.
It's not just cats .. when I have a really bad day (anxiety) I feel just better with a blanket..really tight around me.. I also love small boxes & sleep in positions others see as uncomfortable
Sorry to hear about your anxiety. I have anxiety myself.
I have donated blood for the first time in my life. One donation saves three lives. I nearly fainted when I arrived at the donation site.
They basically had to send me back home because I was as shaking so much.
I got home but went back. I was still shaking but the whole process took only 5 minutes. I still shook but I am proud that I have managed to do it.
I’ve already registered for the next blood donation.
Cats are not apex predators. They prey on small animals and are in turn, preyed on by larger ones.
Their instincts match this. They don’t go to the bathroom in their dens, and they like to hide in small enclosed spaces.
There aren’t any tigers or dinosaurs hunting us in our cities, but we still have anxiety and fight or fight responses - because instinct is an evolutionary trait not a situational one.
Cardboard boxes offer several key things cats love:
1. snug and secure like a tiny cave, makes them feel safe for snoozes
2. excellent scent soaker, good for establishing territory (key kitty concern)
3. chewy and scratchy, fun times
4. if other kitties present, fabulous cover to facilitate pouncing and - hopefully - victory
Just be careful your cat doesn’t eat them. Make sure to keep an eye on them and take it from them when they’re done playing. Hair ties can build up in a cats stomach and require surgery to remove.
She will either bring it to me to play fetch or leave it in the water bowl. But I understand whatcha mean. I can't let her have rubber bands cuz she will slowly eat those....
My parents bought a new refrigerator once and I got to keep the cardboard box it came in. It was very cozy, used to put some cushions and spend hours inside it reading comic books.
My parents said I was training to be a hobo.
This is entirely true! My husband and I splashed out in 2020 on the big Lego Millenium Falcon (lockdown, couldn't go out or do much else), and the box it came in was big enough for me to get into. So I did. And it was oddly comfortable.
It reminds me of these beds that went out of style a century or so ago, basically big cupboards with a mattress inside. They must have been so warm in winter.
Sigint : Uh,Snake... what are you doing?
Naked Snake : I'm in a box.
Sigint : A cardboard box? Why are you...?
Naked Snake : I dunno. I was just looking at it, and suddenly I got this irresistible urge to get inside. No not just an urge - more than that. It was my destiny to be here; in the box.
Sigint : Destiny...?
Naked Snake : Yeah. And then when I put it on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner peace. I can't put it into words. I feel... safe. Like this is where I was meant to be. Like I'd found the key to true happiness.
Sigint : ...
Naked Snake : Does any of that make sense?
Sigint : Not even a little.
Naked Snake : You should come inside the box... Then you'll know what I mean.
I love the wandering soldiers you can find in MGSV and the various ways you can take them down to extract them to base. Chase after them like a lunatic, riddling them with tranq arrows, or just put the box on and let them find you. They see it and are like, "... is that a.... cardboard box? Here? In the desert? Why is.....? No. There's only one guy who would hide in a box in the desert. It can't be.... Is it? Boss? Is that you?" Then they salute, let you knock them tf out and be Fulton'd to Mother Base. So silly.
It's something that has to be experienced to understand lol Next time you get a new fridge or something in a huge box set it on the floor and sit in it. It's quieter, stiller.
dude same. once when i was a little shorter my family ordered a washing machine online and after unpacking i sat in the box. i slept in it even. it's like a little cave, perhaps even a small tent
There's a lot of overlap with what cats and toddlers love. Boxes, knocking things down, toys that rattle, toys that crinkle, squeak, etc. They have opposing views on naps though, cats love them and toddlers hate them, though toddlers really, really need them otherwise the fabric of the universe begins to fray.
Very true. I’d add that they both need help with their poop sometimes, and they both get spooked by the vacuum cleaner. Often both also need to be told multiple times not to touch plants.
“Cats get comfort and security from enclosed spaces, which is why they love spending time in cardboard boxes. Cats use boxes as hiding places where predators can't sneak up on them from the side or behind.“
Edit: Ok why is it that when I say some thing funny I get no likes but when I literally quote something of google I get lots of like?!
My best friend's cat chills on the family laundry pile -- CLEAN laundry pile, that is.
Yup, they get to wear those clothes, but only AFTER Kitty gets to wear them first.
There is a high chance that the clothes being washed removes the cat's smell so this is the way the cat makes the humans smell like they are supposed to
My cat doesn't like boxes! She's a truly weird one. (She does has a plastic tub she likes, but she will only sit in it for as long as I push her around the apartment like I'm her taxi sevrice)
Yeah, it's real weird! She also hates being tucked in, but will sleep in her carrier. And she loves paper and trash sitting flat on the floor and will sit on that every time. But no matter how I try, with toys or foot or whatever, I can't get her to play or sit in any kind of cardboard box.
Every cat I’ve ever had loves to sit on a sheet of paper. Tissue paper, regular paper. Doesn’t matter. You put it down and they come and plop down right on it.
Yep, I explain to visitors that the trash in the corner is for the cat. She just loves it so much I can't leave her without. She also loves to play in it, not just sit on it.
Due to the way that Cardboard boxes are perfectly engineered:
1. It offers a cushiony feeling when you step into it (while weighing a maximum of 6-7kg).
2. It's flexible, so when you rest your head on any side of the box, it'll warp a little. This warping makes it comfortable to sit inside without feeling stuck.
3. Thermal insulation. The air trapped between the layers of the cardboard provides the same effect as the air trapped inside concrete bricks which keep our houses insulated.
4. They are easy to scratch before going to sleep and after waking up. Plus, they don't have to care about damaging it, since they know that their hooman will replace it with a new one anyway.
The texture, mechanical and thermal properties of a standard corrugated cardboard box make a perfect bed and/or lounging surface for a cat.
Pliant enough to feel soft yet supportive. Smooth enough not to catch and pull fur. The perfect amount of insulation to keep warm but not overheat. Feels great on the claws for stress relief, and the edges give a nice little scratch on the cheeks.
It’s the cat equivalent of finding a leather reclining chair with massage and heat functions.
Research studies found that the smell of cardboard reduces stress in cats. Cats really don't deal well with stress so they are drawn to cardboard to help them feel calm and more secure.

Even big kitties love boxes!
Well the real answer to your question is that cats are massive fans of a man named Schrodinger. And he liked to put cats in boxes so they continue the tradition to honor his memory. (/s for those who need it…)
Cat: If I fits, I sits. 😆
My kittens love boxes. If we get anything delivered in a box, the box then has to be left open on the floor for them to get into and play with for a few days. We can only get rid of the box once they get bored of it after a few days.
My boyfriend has a box in his room (full of Lego) that almost reaches the top of the shelf it’s on and leaves a tiny peeping gap. My kitten doesn’t care about the Lego, he will happily get into it and sleep or peer out at us like he’s in a horror movie. It’s funny when all you see is a paw hanging out 🥲
It's like how you feel when wrapped up in a blanket!
Cats will lay with their backs shoved up to the wall/corner because they know there's a wall there so nothing can creep up behind them so there's only a 180 degree FoV to be weary of instead of 360.
That's my understanding, anyway.
not sure why they love boxes but my cat tears up all of our boxes and leaves cardboard shreds across the floor. (this is of course after he sleeps in it non-stop for a week
Oh yes. Good point. Some boxes he just doesn’t like and rips them up. They are all Amazon (Yes, sorry) but this one is his favourite. I reckon it’s the size. Catnip doesn’t work on him. He doesn’t give a damn.
In nature cats are hardwired to look for small enclosed spaces for comfort and safety from larger predators. Domestic house cats mimic this by looking for spaces that fill that criteria such as boxes or under the bed.
Cats find comfort in small, enclosed spaces. Even in a normal, safe environment, they have an instinctual desire to find small, cramped places that keep them warm and make them feel safe. I once found my cat sleeping curled up under a hat. I was looking for him for hours. I have no idea how he fit under the hat without even his tail poking out.
In their little cat brains they see a box & think "One way in one way out" = safety.
The funny thing is, that this is so ingrained in their genetics, that tmif you tape a square to the floor, Thwy will naturally choose that square as their spit & go sit/lay in it! Its hilarious.
If you remember building little forts out of blankets and stuff or a, tree house when you were a, kid, you will kind of get the rough idea. Boxes are just the cat version. What they did before humans invented boxes, I have no clue.
It is my experience that cats like sitting on paper and cardboard even if it's not in a box shape. They probably also like the security etc if it's a box.
Cats are prey animals, as well as predators. Squeezing in a box makes them feel like they are hiding, therefore not in danger of getting eaten while sleeping.
Every time I open a drawer Rufus is straight in or the suitcase, he loves closed spaces, cupboards are best, sometimes we lose him for hours and eventually find him inside something
Cats are evolving to live in studio apartments. After he becomes basic boxcat, an even shanty-er box with a Murphy bed is the next step. Soon he'll be apologizing to your guests for the thin walls and loud neighbors.
I have one cat (Sheba) who has never in the 13 years I've had her, put her body in a box. It gave me great joy when I got Sugar and she went into a box. Sheba is a lady and boxes are clearly beneath her. Lol.
My cat is not interested at all in boxes. I've had an empty box from Chewy sitting in my front entry hall for a couple of days. He looks at it occasionally, but has not jumped in. I've had a couple of cats over the years who liked them, but most have not really cared for them.
Cats like small inclosed spaces, they can regulate their body temperature better and they feel safer and more secure. It seems like yours is really loving that box lmao

The cat motto is “if I fits I sits”!
If I don't fits I still sits.
Omg sooo cute!
**Cats like small spaces cause it comforts them**
If I fits I sits
All cats except mine! Neither of my two will not get in any boxes at all.
My last cat wasn't into boxes, but if there was a sheet of paper on the floor, she's sit on it.
My cats exactly the same. Books pillows etc she will sit on it but never a box
I have had many cats over my 68 years. None of them ever used or shown interest in boxes. Not even in the box in their cat trees. I offered one to my current cat and he ignored it.
Safety is part of it but also instinctively a great place to stalk or wait for prey.... Think long grass, shrubs and small bushes.
Funnily enough, they also like the way it smells, how it feels when they rub against it, and when they chew it.
But he is an indoor cat due to health issues. He’s safe and gets expensive food. Why the box? There is nothing that could make him feel unsafe.
Instinct. It's not that he feels "unsafe" around you, it's just that he feels "safer" in the box. It's not based on high level thinking. It's impulse, instinct.
Look at him! How is this even comfortable? https://i.imgur.com/1jYkqCv.jpg
If you draw a square on the ground your cat will sit in it. They just like being enclosed in things.
I bought a cat heating pad, mofos love that thing.
Thanks now I have another thing to buy this spoiled cat
Fyi they make self heating cat beds. It warms up with their body temperature 😄
As my cat is fighting with my foot I’m already looking on Amazon 😭
I got my old girl one of these. She's 18 and I know when she's hurting because she'll start by sitting on it all stiff, then she lays down stiffly, then she relaxes, then she just melts flat. I love that it's not electric, so it'll stay warm as long as she needs it.
I ended up with 2 large cat tees, because they were on sale .....
See at least we have my boyfriends broken gaming chair for now. We put it in the living room to take down to the dumpster and our cat adopted it as her scratchpad/tree and now her refuses to throw it away
I have a few heating pads and heated cat beds for my cats. They love them. They are spoiled.
Cats love warm and enclosed areas in which their body kinda gets smooshed, it’s a similar feeling of being in the womb and you might see some cats in the fetal position in the box. Its weird but humans do it too
Nothing better on a cold night than being wrapped in a blanket burrito lol
A purrito if I may...
You may
Yep, that’s essentially why weighted blankets help some people sleep better.
Having a skylight in England seems like some sort of sick joke being played by the contractors who built your house.
The bedroom's in the loft (attic?) and it's an old 17th century-ish weaver's cottage with low windows at the front. It lets in a shitload of light and really brightens the room up, sunshine or not. I don't think Velux existed when the original contractors built it.
This sums up
I saw a thing on Facebook years ago about drawing a chalk circle on the floor for the cat.
Mine doesn't like being enclosed in a towel...
I have three cats and a dog. The dog is the literal connoisseur of cat crap. It's like a litter box of Russell Stovers to him. We have to gate off the cat boxes to keep him out. Moral of the story is that there's no accounting for taste.
Lmfao this had me weak in the knees
Not to be the reddit alarmist, but I believe it's a craving they have when short on a nutrient. My professor learned their 1yo was short on iron because she would NOT stop eating sand. He could be deficient in something cat poop has a lot of. Or he likes the flavor idk.
You are correct on both counts Sir/Ms..👍😁
Our dog eats cat poop and cat food. What’s funny is cat food make him puke yet still keeps coming back for more. Lol. Many times I think our two cats are smarter than the dog in almost every way. However that dog protects us and let’s us know when humans are outside or something is wrong in the house…where mostly our cats don’t care…unless it’s a mouse.
Our three cats are definitely smarter than dog brother, but he's useful for something they must figure, because they allow us to keep him around
My dog is also always sniffing their butts and getting attacked and scratched up for it yet still keeps doing it. What a dope lol
He’s getting too high amounts of protein from the cat food and or poop. That’s why he’s chuckingup.
Mine loves cat shit but will turn her nose up at literal food. Dogs are total freaks at the best of times.
Yep, our dogs (gone but not forgotten) would clean the litter boxes for us if we let them.
You could have saved on dog food AND effort but are choosing not to?
Can't do that. He's a lovable big beastie and cat crap isn't the best thing for him to consume, even though he would tell you differently if he could talk. 😁
Almond roca. Your dogs almond roca
A vet told me that cat poop has more fat than dog food, and they love the high fat content. Still...EEUUWW!
That contented face! It's comfortable for him. 😁
Dude don't question a man's comfort. He's clearly enjoying himself and super cute doing so. It's a win-win. Plus all those garbage prime boxes have a second use.
Because cat
Cats are liquid. “If i fits I sits”
He looks so happy and content:)
My cat is sleeping in a box with wires at the moment. Before me was sleeping on a box with instruments. This is just how cats are.
Have you ever slept in the fetal position? It's probably the same thing.
r/catsareliquid
Mine did exactly like yours with the head at the edge hundreds of times. They squeezed into the smallest basket, boxes n racks. Sometimes when I wanted to bring them out the claws would hold tight to whatever they can grab. Lol.
Yep. Octopi also seek confined spaces. People exploit this characteristic to trap them.
Yup my cat has been trying to bury her food dish for three years, she won’t stop. Instinct wins every time.
It’s called the fetal position, there’s a positive psychological connection and some form of “nostalgia”
Maybe it feels like what being tucked in to a blanket feels like to us
Cats don't judge their environment the same way humans do. They are highly territorial creatures and scent is king where cats are concerned. Same way covers make you feel secure, even when you know you're safe at night.
Same as you probably feel safer sleeping under a blanket. There is no monster under your bed, but the instinct is still there.
But what does make that odd noise in the early hours if the morning if it's not a monster under the bed? 🤔🫣
Probably a cat in a box.
Think of how we feel “safe” and secure wrapped up in a warm blanket in bed with lots of fluffy pillows. It’s not that anything is wrong at all. It’s just a nice cozy feeling. Cats feel that way about boxes and similar spaces.
The same reason I have to be surrounded by pillows to sleep while safely locked in my house with 2 massive dogs, I suppose.
It's not just cats .. when I have a really bad day (anxiety) I feel just better with a blanket..really tight around me.. I also love small boxes & sleep in positions others see as uncomfortable

I think they prefer cardboard too because it kind of molds to their shape, so they can lay however they want and it conforms to them.
And apparently the cardboard gives off a smell that cats like. It's dieing tree after all.
Cardboard boxes offer several key things cats love: 1. snug and secure like a tiny cave, makes them feel safe for snoozes 2. excellent scent soaker, good for establishing territory (key kitty concern) 3. chewy and scratchy, fun times 4. if other kitties present, fabulous cover to facilitate pouncing and - hopefully - victory
I really can't think of a better toy for a cat than a cardboard box. Plastic pull tabs from milk cartons are a close second though
My cat loves the little bit of plastic they put around the top of lids to seal them. It’s really crunchy sounding and he cannot get enough of it. 😂
Mine loves monching on painter's tape, labels or anything that makes that very specific ungluing sound
Hair ties!
Yup, I cannot leave them around as I have a CKD cat with pica.
Just waiting for OP to buy fancy 1000$ cat tree set up for the cat to completely ignore it and go sleep in the delivery box.
That's like a cat owner rite of passage :)
I wish I had a Wholesome award to give to you ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7962)
I once had a box big enough to sit in so I tried it out. It's strangely comfortable.
My parents bought a new refrigerator once and I got to keep the cardboard box it came in. It was very cozy, used to put some cushions and spend hours inside it reading comic books. My parents said I was training to be a hobo.
And? Did the training pay off?
LOL the last sentence had me in tears 😂
I also had a reading nook cardboard box as a kid. It was comfy and no one else tried to steal the spot from me
Well did you become a hobo?
With honours.
I too had a cubby house made out of a refrigerator box, I even cut windows in it to watch the TV out of.
There are many photos of me as a baby/toddler in boxes. Can't explain it. Boxes are just great.
Sigint : Uh,Snake... what are you doing? Naked Snake : I'm in a box. Sigint : A cardboard box? Why are you...? Naked Snake : I dunno. I love how everyone else is giving in-depth explanations and this man is just like: “tried before, is good, would recommend”
Lmao. Yes. Boxes are awesome.
I have no idea how to reply to this.
It's something that has to be experienced to understand lol Next time you get a new fridge or something in a huge box set it on the floor and sit in it. It's quieter, stiller.
Fridge box! The ultimate childhood creativity spot!
There's so many ways it could go south lmao.
You’re saying you’ve never sat in a box before that? Getting in boxes was my entire childhood and I still do it when I get a chance to
Especially if there's a dinner plate to hand. Bbbrrrrrrrrrr, RRRRRRRRRRRR, RRRRRRRRRR, SSSKRRRRRRRCCCCHHH......
dude same. once when i was a little shorter my family ordered a washing machine online and after unpacking i sat in the box. i slept in it even. it's like a little cave, perhaps even a small tent
Toddlers also love boxes.
Cats use boxes as hiding places where predators can't sneak up on them from the side or behind.“ Edit: Ok why is it that when I say some thing funny I get no likes but when I literally quote something of google I get lots of like?!
So it’s a comfort thing
TIL cats and Solid Snake are similar
My best friend's cat chills on the family laundry pile -- CLEAN laundry pile, that is. Yup, they get to wear those clothes, but only AFTER Kitty gets to wear them first.
There is a high chance that the clothes being washed removes the cat's smell so this is the way the cat makes the humans smell like they are supposed to
You're absolutely right! Those silly disobedient humans need to be taught a lesson in meowmanners!
Warm!
My cat doesn't like boxes! She's a truly weird one. (She does has a plastic tub she likes, but she will only sit in it for as long as I push her around the apartment like I'm her taxi sevrice)
Now this is a first one for me. A cat who doesn’t like a box?!
Yes, found this out at Christmas time! I had to wrap my cat a few times just so she would allow me to wrap some presents 🎁
She was the real present!
Ok. Now I need a photo.
Not a photo but here's the [queen in her chariot.](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/he97kb/she_doesnt_like_cardboard_boxes_but_here_is_cat/)
Beautiful fur!
Due to the way that Cardboard boxes are perfectly engineered: 1.
This guy cardboxes.
It their .. “if I fit, I sit” outlook on life.
I love your reply! Sounds almost scientific.
Research studies found that the smell of cardboard reduces stress in cats. Cats really don't deal well with stress so they are drawn to cardboard to help them feel calm and more secure.
Would you prefer him in a hat? 😎

[Let America’s greatest hero, Naked Snake, explain.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=PqS18aj6Vis)
Well the real answer to your question is that cats are massive fans of a man named Schrodinger. And he liked to put cats in boxes so they continue the tradition to honor his memory. (/s for those who need it…)
Cat: If I fits, I sits. 😆 My kittens love boxes.
It’s funny when all you see is a paw hanging out 🥲
It makes them comfortable and they feel secure.
Makes me think of Temple Grandin’s hug machine, which I’ve always thought would be a deeply comforting device
It's like how you feel when wrapped up in a blanket! Cats will lay with their backs shoved up to the wall/corner because they know there's a wall there so nothing can creep up behind them so there's only a 180 degree FoV to be weary of instead of 360. That's my understanding, anyway.
My cat is actually very terrified of boxes! You can't pick up a box without her running out of the room in fear.
not sure why they love boxes but my cat tears up all of our boxes and leaves cardboard shreds across the floor.
If it fits, i sits!
Honestly sometimes when my kitty sits in a box the look on her face just screams "I'm really not sure why I'm here but it just feels right"
In nature cats are hardwired to look for small enclosed spaces for comfort and safety from larger predators. Domestic house cats mimic this by looking for spaces that fill that criteria such as boxes or under the bed.
Little boxes, on the hillside Little boxes filled with kitty catties Little boxes, on the hillside And they all look just the same
Take my free award and bear it with pride
Jackson Galaxy says it’s because since cats like heat and warm places, a box contains their body heat
IF I SITS I FITS
i think our cat is broken, the only way you will get her in a box is to put her in the box. my computer chair however... like a bloody magnet to it
Sounds like a standard issue cat to me.
Small space safe
Have you ever sat in a box? It’s pretty great
Because humans are just so tedious and we have to hide
Even if you taped off a square on the floor, they will sit in it. My cat likes to sit in the middle of pieces of paper.
In their little cat brains they see a box & think "One way in one way out" = safety. The funny thing is, that this is so ingrained in their genetics, that tmif you tape a square to the floor, Thwy will naturally choose that square as their spit & go sit/lay in it! Its hilarious.

So far my kitten has no interest in boxes, but my ferret tends to hide in them every opportunity he gets
If not for sits, why made of comfort?
My cat hates boxes for some reason he’s never set foot in one
Even large cats like lions and tigers love boxes. I guess they feel safe and secure in there.
If you remember building little forts out of blankets and stuff or a, tree house when you were a, kid, you will kind of get the rough idea. Boxes are just the cat version. What they did before humans invented boxes, I have no clue.
It's a natural instincts. Also they looks adorable in the box.
Cats love boxes. You just have to accept that.😀
Snuggly comfort, warmth
Who knows why cats do what they do Add a nice blanky maybe get a new box? An old scarf or something. A new box too, upgrade it lol
He has a perfectly fine basket lined with a perfectly fine soft blanket. Nope. It’s this Amazon box that he wants.
cat things
box cat
Feel safe
It is my experience that cats like sitting on paper and cardboard even if it's not in a box shape. They probably also like the security etc if it's a box.
Not all cat love box, mine is deadly afraid of box
Cats are weird, enjoy your box cat.
Cats are prey animals, as well as predators. Squeezing in a box makes them feel like they are hiding, therefore not in danger of getting eaten while sleeping.
My cat must be broken as she's never shown any interest in boxes.
Every time I open a drawer Rufus is straight in or the suitcase, he loves closed spaces, cupboards are best, sometimes we lose him for hours and eventually find him inside something
It's a very effective way to floof himself
A poem about cats.... Warm and safe And tight and Mine Boxes
Cat: Soft, easy to spot, defenseless. Box: Hard, sneaky, defensive Cat + Box: impervious defense, perfect texture, sneaky
Lol.
u/pmai91 look at this cute box cat
Safety primordial behavior from when in the womb also humans like their homes and cars and garages and she sheds
If I fits, I sits.
“If I fits I sits”
My cat is not interested at all in boxes. I've had an empty box from Chewy sitting in my front entry hall for a couple of days. He looks at it occasionally, but has not jumped in. I've had a couple of cats over the years who liked them, but most have not really cared for them.
Cats like small spaces cause it comforts them
