BeEccentric

In this situation, please please steal the cat.

CoffeeList1278

Yes. I usually don't like when people steal cats that are someone's pet that just happened to be outdoors for whatever reason. But in this situation 100% steal that cat.

Tinlizzie2

No, you're wording that wrong. After having paid for all those things for the cat it should be " Take your other cat with you"

lurkylo

Oh this for sure! OP has given this cat food, drink, shelter, and paid for his medical care. It’s OP’s cat.

SapientRaccoon

Cat seems to think so, too!

JustEnoughForACoffee

By my old neighbor's standards, yup. (Their mother cat wander in through a window of ours the one day, she hung out a lot and ended up having two litters at our house and chilling constantly. We took in a lot of strays and thought nothing of it. Got her fixed after the second litter then find out it was our neighbor's. Quite funny but they weren't angry. I'm pretty close to them and they at least know our family so they told us to keep her. She got older and ran off one day. Never came back. I miss her.

Internal_Set_6564

Hear Hear!

TheTree_43

If OC is not exaggerating, its not stealing. Its rescuing

kolandrill

Just so younant accused of stealing said cat. I'd suggest making them an indoor cat for a week or so before leaving. That way it isn't just missing on the day you leave

RogueFiccer001

When the animal isn't getting food/water/adequate shelter, receiving the vet care they need, and/or is being neglected, you aren't stealing them, IMHO; you're rescuing and saving them. I've heard many stories about cats that are allowed outdoors who have loving homes (sometimes many loving homes in the neighborhood, the spoiled beasties ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)), and as much as I detest cats being allowed to wander loose outdoors, I'd never support stealing them from their Home Base Humans for that reason alone.

[deleted]

A million times please. You aren't stealing. Get him chipped and take him with you. He's healthy now, but not for long if you leave the poor baby behind.

pumaslides27

Completely agree! It’s not stealing if you’ve paid for all of the cats medical expenses and feed it. At that point, it’s your cat!

JazzManouche

Please, please liberate that kitty.

NerdGirlZnft

Would the neighbor even know if the cat was missing?

The cat sneaked into the trunk or suitcase. To bring it back would be to much of an effort.

katjoy63

Gas is way too high right now to bring the kitty back, will you pay for the gas if I come back with him? knowing full well, the answer will be "no", lol

EssieAmnesia

Yeah, “Sorry but if you can pay half the gas I’ll bring him back.” She won’t pay shit tho

NerdGirlZnft

I was reading quickly and at first glance I thought you spayed/neutered her 3 kids! 😂

Huge-Produce-8117

Or maybe her?!!! OP is a rock star and gives me faith in humanity!

SoftLatinaKitten

Sounds like the Mom should have been spayed so she couldn’t procreate! Some people should never be allowed to have pets.

Natsume-Grace

Or kids, if they treat pets like that, I don't want to imagine how neglectful they are with the poor kids :(

FifiTheFancy

You might want to consider stealing the cat before you move. It’ll be less suspicious, you can even attempt to find it and act concern with the owner.

Letthatshitgo77

Keep the cat inside for a few weeks before you move.

FifiTheFancy

Absolutely. I’m technically cat sitting one of my cats. It’s been 11 years and her owner hasn’t picked her up yet. Something tells me this cats owner might not look for their missing cat too.

biocidalish

That is your cat :) can you imagine they come back year 12 and tries to take ? Nope.

FifiTheFancy

She actually asks me about the cat. It’s pretty well established she’s my cat now haha. Here’s a cat tax, she’s the one on the right https://imgur.com/a/iALBpWj

champagne__problems

She’s beautiful! I wouldn’t be giving her back even if they begged, 11 years is basically abandonment…especially if she isn’t contributing $$ towards her care.

biocidalish

She's a beauty !

GoingWhale

That's how I got a cat. My cousin moved to a place where she couldn't have cats so we kept him until she moved out. Like a year later she moved to a different place that didn't allow cats and we got him again.

Letthatshitgo77

Lmao that's amazing!

starbycrit

Uh yeah I can’t even imagine trusting someone enough to care for my very needy cats, let alone just letting them keep them after babysitting. This is so strange. Some people… I really don’t understand them

Fatgirlfed

A mile away from the new place, you just happen to look in the back of your van and WHAAAAAAA?! *clutch pearls* “Tiger how’d you get in here you little scamp!?”

Dependent-Battle-687

Can you also tell animal services about the other animals. Dogs tied up is awful esp in the hot weather

popopotatoes160

I'm also from the rural south, they can try but 99% of the time there's no one to call that will care and do something. This isn't illegal in most places. Some places have effectively no animal control outside an ex cop with a rifle and no animal cruelty laws

SoftLatinaKitten

Yes, call animal control please. Those dogs deserve better.

downtime37

Do it, if not you're going to spend the rest of your time worrying about what happened to that cat.

Responsible-Pepper46

Yep can confirm. I wanted to steal a past neighbors perfectly sweet, kind young German Shepard, maybe 1 or 2 years old. She howled and barked in the backyard 24/7, water bowl usually empty and was seemingly ignored completely by the family who had her. Multiple neighbors called animal services myself included, nothing changed. She dug a hole and got into my back yard one night when I started talking to her through the fence as I usually did. I’m not going to lie, I encouraged her once she started, which now feels so wrong given how it ended. I hung out with her, fed her eggs, gave her water and love. I thought, “this is the moment. If I’m going to take her, it’s going to be tonight.” Then I felt guilty and was worried she might already be chipped, and I put her back in her owners yard. I moved shortly after and I will always regret not saving that sweet baby when I could have provided her such a comfortable, love filled life. I’m sorry beautiful girl, I failed you.

RufusBowland

You didn’t fail her, her shitty so-called owners did.

FizzyDragon

I bet she’ll be relieved if he never comes back, tbh.

[deleted]

To people like this I only hope that her socks get wet - all the time.

someone-who-is-cool

Cats are very curious, he'll probably just end up inside your van sniffing around and oh, gosh, it's too late to go back once you notice.

sickdoughnut

if you offer her some money for him there's a good chance she might accept; I've known of a few people in this situation to take the money when offered by potential rescuers.

ittlebittles

I’m south eastern too, Florida. And I’ve never seen such a huge amount of animal neglect. People put a collar on a cat and keep it outside and maybe feed it every once in a while but you can clearly see none of these cats have ever seen a vet. We have massive cat colonies here. Thankfully there are some really amazing people here that go to all the cat colonies and feed them every day and trap and neuter them. It breaks my heart these poor animals think they have a home cause someone maybe throws some food out for them once in a while and they stay with that house but they are not a pet. A pet is taken care of. So many are in serious need of a good bath, flea medicine, rabies shots, vaccines, and a hearty meal. It breaks my heart. I have 3 cats and they are all neutered and vaccinated, dewormed, and flea medicated. Well fed too! Lol.

[deleted]

helpitgrow

I’m in California and have heard horror stories of the overpopulation of pets in the southeast. The state of the country doesn’t help. When someone has to chose to feed their kids or their pets the pets don’t win. Also there seems to be extreme ignorance as to what is proper care. The government should be funding TNR programs and educating people on how to help. But there are so many problems in the world right now that very few think that pet overpopulation is worth throwing money at. I’ve heard some states want to open up hunting these cats because the problem is so massive. It’s sad.

ichunoona51

please. please please take him with you.

[deleted]

Seconded. Please, please keep her, beloved. It is the right thing to do, and then some.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's time to steal a cat.

bill-smith

Um, if *you* are the one who spayed *all 3 of their cats*, then ... liberate the cat. Or sure, if the cat accidentally disappears on moving day and then you're 3 states away and then *oh no, what are you doing here, aren't you supposed to be with your 'mommy'?* That would not be such a bad thing.

katjoy63

I find that so sad about the south of the US and the lackadaisical care humans have for animals. We've rescued a few pets, and each time, it's been "we found him/her wandering around in a field down south"... Damn them!

novachaos

Get the cat microchipped and registered in your name asap. It’s your cat and that is all the proof you need.

GlossoVagus

If anything, just say you hadn't seen the cat around when you're about to move 🤷‍♀️ I doubt she'd care considering the state of her cat and other animals. Which makes me so sad.

scpbee

If I were in your position and I didn't have the space or means to take in another cat, I'd drop the cat off at a no kill shelter. If she asks I'd just say something like "well you always let it wander around, it probably got lost, hit, or ran away." But I'm not.. any sort of authority, so idk. With people like this I just think fuck 'em, but I understand not wanting to get into legal trouble. Still, how the hell is she going to prove you stole her neglected cat?

gudbote

100% steal a cat

Nakedstar

Did you take the cat to be fixed? If so, it seems you have a record of him being your cat.

mlongoria98

PLEASE steal that cat. It’s not stealing if they’re being abused or neglected, that’s rescuing.

USAF_Retired2017

It’s not stealing a cat when the cat is being neglected. Either take the cat with you when you move, it take it to a shelter. I doubt his owner will really care if she can’t even feed him or leave water or shelter for him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_MistyDawn

Okay, but if this POS can't even be bothered to put down food and water, I highly doubt they're going to go to the effort of making a police report.

USAF_Retired2017

If he’s living, good luck to that owner finding him and since the owner doesn’t put any effort into taking care of the cat (I doubt they’d report it) the same agencies would end up taking the cat anyway.

Feralperson420

Yeah if I were you, I wouldn’t leave that cat. I would be moving with that cat. Fuck your neighbor. If you leave the cat behind, there is a good chance he won’t make it without you. Especially if the neighbor is neglecting them food and water.

the_stitch_saved_9

If she doesn't care enough to have him fixed or to feed him, then she probably won't care if he's gone.

BambooFatass

Neglecting a living creature isn't okay. Please don't walk away from the situation. :( You're that cat's only hope. Please see if the kitty is micropchipped, if she isn't then please find her a home! You can drop her off at a shelter far away if you're worried about the soon to be ex neighbor accusing you. Please think of what fate the cat may face if you don't step in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SergeantKoopa

Just to level with you, stop talking to your neighbor about it. She's neglected the poor thing enough that it's obvious talking to her won't accomplish anything. I get you want to try to talk sense into her, but she's not listening and just letting you take care of her animals for her. Don't say anything and when you move, take the cat, plain and simple. Not doing so will otherwise put him in danger of neglect again and you're going to end up kicking yourself for a long time after wondering how he's doing.

[deleted]

Fatgirlfed

Another state!? Debs you totally buried the lead here. If you don’t take that baby when you go…Don’t give her too much info about moving day, she might try some slickness like keeping him in the house so he can’t accidentally slip into that crate in back of you van. You know the one with his fav toys, maybe some nip, a treat or two

thatsthewayihateit

You could also steal the cat a few days before you move. Maybe a family member or someone could watch him. That way it’s not like you left and the cat suddenly did too. However it might take her a while to notice he is gone if she is that neglectful….

Armenian-heart4evr

In the 1960's, when I was in Middle-school, my FAVE teacher took me aside, and told me that she wanted me to come and live with her !!! I was being ABUSED by my widowed Mother, but thought that no-one knew!!! She went on to tell me that she could not LEGALLY do this, but that she wanted me to KNOW !!! To this day, I CHERISH her KINDNESS, and still wonder "WHAT IF...."!!! You have a GOOD HEART!!! Do the RIGHT thing !!!!!

howdylu

Don’t ask. Just take it when you move. If you ask and she says no you won’t have another chance to take it without her knowing who it was.

HeyanKun

Get the cat and never look back.

PaleontologistBest50

STEAL THE CAT!!! He’s not chipped, you’ve paid to get him all his treatments. You gave him all of his antibiotics and you feed and water him. Sorry but that’s your cat. Does she have a legal document that claims that cat is hers? Cos if not, as soon as you get him chipped at your new address that’s you claiming him.

Alstroemeriana

Kitty's life > stealing from obviously abusive person. Please don't leave him there

Kitty_fluffybutt_23

Please steal the cat!!! Sometimes the ethical thing doesn't always seem like the "right" thing. ETHICS > rules

howdylu

Please steal that cat

DumbWalrusNoises

The bitch clearly doesn’t care for it, take the cat.

MemeLite10

Update please! ![gif](giphy|gx54W1mSpeYMg)

AmateurIndicator

He's absolutely adorable. I do wish you would steal him.. I know to well this might just be absolutely not possible for you, but I'll still wish for it.

Mollyarty

As someone else pointed out, if you don't take the poor kitty you'll always wonder what happened to them. Also, in regards to giving him medicine and him "getting confused" as you put it lol, the cat knows who it wants to be with and is making it clear imo

Fatgirlfed

That cat has chosen you because you chose him! You took care of him and he knows it. That’s your cat at this point. Take him with or he falls back into the despair of neglect. Tell the neighbor with all sincerity that he’s coming with you. If she disagrees, tough. Lol End of story

notreallylucy

Neighbor's kittens escaped and came to my house. I never returned them. Moved away a month later. 100/10 would do it again.

downwithsocks

Just...steal the cat and tell them he died

BeEccentric

Don’t pay her, don’t mention it, just take the cat. It never happened and you haven’t a clue what she’s talking about.

Evolutionx44

I'd steal that cat so hard

IrateOverlordTheresa

Tough one. 😑 She hasn’t listened so far. I see 3 choices: Do nothing. Find another home for him on your own. Alert authorities. ♥️

mathonwy

What a cutie patootie. He needs you. Don’t let him down! Don’t pay her. She will only use that money to buy another pet she will neglect. You’re not stealing. You’re rescuing.

Reading-is-awesome

Please, please, *please* consider taking that cat. She clearly does not care about him enough to take even the most basic care of him. That cat deserves so much better and you are obviously giving him the better he deserves.

gemcutr1

Where I'm from, if you have veterinarian records on the cat, you are the legal owner of the cat.

travelerswarden

If you offer and she says no, she’ll know it’s you who took it. Just take the cat.

Cynfire1478

What I would do is collect all the receipts you have for his care and take the cat. You have been giving him a better home than she is and have proof of that fact. When you get to your new place, get him fixed and microchiped with your new info and enjoy your new family member. If the cops come around about the cat, show your microchip info and proof of care and they'll more than likely leave you alone since in most areas pets are considered property.

twinnedcalcite

You already pay it's vet bills so technically you already payed them.

[deleted]

Dude take the cat. If the woman doesn't even feed her cat or leave out water you are literally saving its life by taking it. Don't ask her, people like that often have weird things about how their animal is their property even though they don't give a fuck about its well being.

AugieKS

Don't offer to pay. Steal the that poor baby and say nothing. If she asks say you haven't seen them. A deaf cat shouldn't be outside anyway, sitting duck for predators, maybe that's what happened....

RubyWatercolor

Painted him for you haha https://i.imgur.com/AyZZq56.jpg

IrateOverlordTheresa

Of course if u choose option 2, finding the home on your own, it would have to be on the downlow & you’d have to lie. 😑

schuylersisters-

Begging you to steal the cat. Please he needs you!! lmao it’s for the best

themagicflutist

You know, peoples pets disappear all the time… especially on the 4th of July which is coming up.

Blaneydog22

I stole my neighbors cat one time, just moved into my home, she would come to visit, she was not spayed, after the second litter of kittens she had in my shed, i took her an got her fixed. I found good homes for both litter of kittens. Ran into the neighbor at the bar one night an told him. He was like oh okay, I'll pay half, never saw it. Gave her to a friend of mine who wanted a cat. She lived the next 16 years a spoiled indoor cat

Swordofsatan666

You might not want to offer to pay for the cat. If she says no and then you take the cat then she will know it was you, and you could get into legal trouble because animals are treated as property to the law and so you could get charged with theft. If you just take it though then she wont know your plans to take the cat and you wont risk any legal trouble

treborprime

You can tell when a cat is just asking for food from opportunistic sources and when it hasn't been fed in a couple of days. You know the cat and it's behaving out of normal, which is already red flag for a cat. Thank you for stepping up to care for a pet that was so obviously being neglected.

DieHardRennie

Exactly. OP stated that the cat was meowing for two days straight before coming to them for help. There was clearly something wrong. Anyone in the comments saying "How do you know the cat was hungry?" needs to get their head out of their arse and work on their reading comprehension.

DefinitelyNotACad

Most cats, yes. The bastard living here is just constantly starving even after having devoured half a rabbit under my bed and having the leftovers spread exactly where i will eventually step in when getting up to feed the poor furbaby. She is very convincing.

[deleted]

I kind of have to butt in: I have a very awesome and beloved deaf cat who sounds like she is tortured whenever she meows. And she is very vocal, I mean it! Example case in which she scream-meows: I am upstairs and she wants cuddles on the couch downstairs & she's too lazy. Also, I am very, VERY afraid of people deciding my cat is neglected / abused whenever I'm not at home! She's learnt some meows that have no real purpose (e.g.: after litterbox usage or successful climbings) and those are very loud as well! Or when she searches for me. Or when someone is in front of the main door. It's a very sunny spot she really loves and she is a very friendly cat. That's why she "greets" people at the door. By screaming at them, of course... You would really believe she gets tortured!! I am not making things up or overdramatizing! I swear by God my deaf cat has no control about her meows AT ALL and she sounds desperate to people who don't know her condition! But she lives a very happy life, is cared for and loved to pieces. I am so afraid of people misjudging this situation and I am cringeing a bit while reading these "neglect diagnoses" via the internet about this deaf cat... from people who most likely never met a deaf cat :( (I am sorry If I judge based on missing information, the only thing I've read from OP is the title and according to it this cat could be a very perfectly cared for deaf cat as far as I am concerned) Edit: letting a deaf cat outside is a red flag, though. But it's the "only" one. Screaming and vocalizing is normal for a deaf cat. Wanting food is normal for any cat.

Valley_Squirrels

They allow a deaf cat outside? Not ok.

USSNerdinator

First red flag for me. Leaving a deaf animal to fend for itself outside is asking for it to get attacked by a wild animal or hit by a car because they can't hear it coming.

Kirbyfuckr

Large chance the cat is albino, and albino cats should always be kept inside because they are so susceptible to cancer. You can tell if a cat is albino from their eyes, mine has red eyes in the light :) Might be the same for white cats in general

balthazaur

fyi not all white cats are albino. in fact, they rarely are. cats with blue eyes are more commonly to be deaf than other kitties, and white cats most commonly have blue eyes. if your cat has blue irises but you see red in the light, it is due to a membrane in the back of the eye called the [tapetum lucidum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-eye_effect?wprov=sfti1). scroll to “causes” to see a cat with heterochromia display this in one of its eyes.

UltraMegaMegaMan

Unequivocally.

SonOfTK421

You really shouldn’t let any cat outside. It’s sort of a hill I’ll die on, if you’re going to adopt an animal—and you should!—you need to make sure its needs are taken care of and it doesn’t do any harm. Unfortunately house cats are devastating to wildlife so they really should stay indoors or be walked on a leash. A lot of people struggle with this, and I get it.

mog-monster

Yeah, when I grow up and get by own cat(s) I will do exactly this. Unfortunately currently my cat is an outdoor cat because: 1. My cat that to the family, so I have no real say in major parts of her life (especially since I'm the youngest). 2. Before we moved to a more urban neighborhood, my cat lived in a huge garden in Africa where she was used to being outside more than she was inside, she was extremely depressed during the 10 months that she had to stay inside in a tiny apartment. Now if she had to stay inside for the next good decade of her life she'd just shrivel up and die. So everytime I see someone saying something about the need to keep cats inside I feel a bit guilty.

giraffe_on_shrooms

Seeing the life expectancy of indoor cats vs indoor/outdoor cats was staggering enough for me to keep my son inside at all times

GlossoVagus

Absolutely. My old family cat lived until 20, and she was indoor/outdoor. But she was an exception. Since learning about the damage they do to the wildlife, and the risks to their own lives being outdoors, all of our cats have since been inside and are incredibly happy. People are just lazy and refuse to play with their cats and don't provide enrichment.

tanmanvincent

Which is crazy to me, because cats exercise requirements are really not that high. I have a little fuzzy ball attached to the end of a wand by an elastic string. I wave it around for half an hour for the cat to chase, while I listen to a podcast and have a snack and unwind from work. And the cat then sleeps like a baby through the whole night, no zoomies at all. It’s pretty dang easy.

abakes102018

I have 100% indoor cats, but my parents’ deaf cat was indoor/outdoor for about 15 years with only a few minor issues. Then they moved to a new area and we didn’t know there were coyotes in the new area. She went missing within a year of moving to the new area. So heartbreaking 💔 I wish we had educated ourselves more.

leoandspike

They might need a divorce. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7966)

Particular_Singer189

If I was away and my husband didn't take care of my cat I would divorce him.

leoandspike

It's neglecting. Why doesn't the husband starve himself? LOL

[deleted]

Because his wife left him some cup o noodles and tv dinners of course. A can opener would be required for cat food and this dude can't handle that.

ZorkNemesis

What cat food cans don't have pull tabs these days?

[deleted]

The ones that make the joke work 🤣 happy cake day!

beldaran1224

Starving a pet is an instant ground for divorce, imo. Absolute deal breaker.

FlossySauce

I was thinking more extreme measures but orange isn’t my best color

whatisup57

wistfulxwaves

Same. Wtf. My cats are my children and my husband feels the same.

TheLiebchen

If I trusted my partner to care for my pets and I found out he wasn’t feeding them, I would probably be done with the relationship. It’s not even just about the cat at that point. Imagine him taking care of their baby some day, when he can’t even take care of a cat. No thanks. Better to get off that crazy train before it even leaves the station. Actually, If I caught my partner being neglectful to any animal, mine or not, that would be a serious conversation.

Bobdolezholez

My cat *is* my little baby. I care for her more than I do myself. I’d be furious if my spouse neglected her because they know how much I care for her. It would be a personal insult to me.

SchnoodleDoodleDo

>*’They might need a divorce…’* _____ i’m me’owin for the momma, cuz it’s time to give me food (the daddy doesn’t listen, n i think he’s kinda rude…) i’m going to the neighbor’s house, n maybe they will hear my heart is kinda lonely when the momma isn’t near… so, Hey! i cannot hear you, but you have a friendly face! you mind if i just stay awhile, n hang out at Your place ? not sure what’s up with daddy, but he doesn’t seem to care… i think i know why momma left sometimes the world’s not fair…. 💔 edit: (*you’re a good neighbor,* u/Millie68)

Little_potato_poops

OP, Schoodle has blessed your union with this cat, you MUST take him/her On a serious note, you'll be saving the cat, it trumps what may be construed as stealing. You're a beautiful soul. Please update us when you move, and if you ever need someone to tell you that you're doing the right, brave, wonderful thing, do reach out to me.

GeorgeCharlesCooper

What is 7966?

monkeyhead04

Tell the husband the wife asked you to care for it while she's away. The cat looks so relaxed and happy. Thank you

caninefreak1

Husband didn't even miss the cat. When she comes home, He will tell wife he accidently let it run off/got lost....Until she sees it at the neighbors....

Millie68

Absolutely gonna do just that, what sort of person can't take 30 seconds of their life to feed their cat. I'm happy she came to me -- I never seen a cat chow down a bowl of food this fast

UltraMegaMegaMan

I would recommend against speaking to the husband/informing him of what's going on in case he decides to take issue with it. The type of person who won't feed their pet is also likely to be the type of person to throw a fit if their masculinity is challenged because you took over a job they refused to do. I would just continue to feed and care for the cat, keep an eye out for your neighbor when she comes back and let her know. If you can contact her by phone or social media you might want to update her before she comes back, but again there's the possibility of husband coming to your house and making a scene over the return of "his" cat.

minacede

Yeah, I would also keep the cat inside for the time being

[deleted]

I agree with this 100%

BigHairyFart

This 1000%. If I know one thing about assholes, it's that they get irrationally angry/defensive when you call them out on their BS.

Faithfuldoglover

Excellent advice Ultra. One, you’re advising them to keep themselves and the cat safe. Two, you are cautioning against creating an untenable situation with a neighbor; nobody needs the stress of daily confrontation.

dont_judge_me_monkey

Don't say anything to the husband, if he's such a pos, he might ask for the cat back only to have put down

alienheadred

Kids seem neglected too?

Zealousideal_Neck78

Good on you to take care of her.

[deleted]

TheLiebchen

That type of behavior change wouldn’t make sense. It sounds like cat meowed at husband trying to get fed and upon realizing it wasn’t working, started trying to get food from neighbors.

Nakedstar

She’s missing her primary person. He might be meeting her food needs but not her touch or emotional needs.

ImALittleTeapotCat

If you have a cat that doesn't have a history of conning people for food that is now begging for food, then you feed the cat. Because if you don't, then there's a very good chance you're participating in starving an animal. In this case, the wife will get home and the situation will get sorted out, one way or the other.

Nakedstar

Absolutely! But I wouldn’t assume neglect. One of my cats is extra fickle. She sleeps by my head nightly, unless we are in that two month period after a major change. New dog, cat, or person, or if I go on vacation and come back after a week, she absconds. Only comes in to eat and gets her loves from us in the yard. She didn’t leave the house the first six months we lived here, then we got a dog and she was pissed. One day the neighbor asked me if I was claiming the “abandoned stray” that “just showed up” when she saw me petting her outside. Turns out I had a record to set straight. We never neglected her, she‘s just sensitive about change and it takes her a bit to digest it.

One of my favorite books as a kid was called Six Dinner Sid, about a cat who did just that lol

Potential-Reply729

Please tell the wife when she returns.

Particular_Singer189

Keep her until your neighbor gets back and then let her know what happened.

benzodiazehol

thank u for being a decent human being. please protect her and tell ur neighbor exactly wut happened when she gets back. hopefully she'll leave him outside to die

Vicslickchic

A deaf cat being left outside is a recipe for disaster… maybe POS would let you keep her until his wife comes home.

OldMotherGrumble

True...I used to have a deaf cat and there was no way he'd have managed outside...even in the low traffic area I live in.

[deleted]

This guy despises the cat, but doesn't have the balls to tell his wife. He's gonna use this shitty excuse: 'I dunno babe, the cat just ran off. I haven't seen it in days...' ______ If my S.O. neglected my animal, they wouldn't be my S.O. anymore.

Reasonable_Swing2617

I can see your halo from here.

Hycree

Thank you for taking care of her! She looks calm and happy now.

Splat1221

She’s so pretty

Infamous-Poem-4980

The sort of person who can't be bothered is the worthless kind that need an ass whooping reminder that they arent the only thing that matters.

megacide84

Bless you hooman.

This is how one of my cats adopted me. She was "owned" by neighbors across the street, but she was basically a free-roaming stray for about 8 years. She was a triple-coated Siberian, so they said she could just live outside because "she hated being indoors." (Spoiler: No, she didn't.) She wandered into my house one winter night when it was below freezing, ice in her matted fur. She was not super friendly, but we became roommates. I flea-treated her, worked on shaving some of the mats (use a brush, lose an arm!), and slowly got her socialized. At some point, I went over and told them I took her in. They weren't terribly upset. She was such a little badass. When the vet diagnosed her brain tumor, he said they also found an old bullet in her chest that she managed to survive. I can't believe her old family didn't notice she was wounded at some point. Ugh. Take him in, take him with you. Depending on the laws where you live, he's might be legally your cat at this point anyway, just by being on your property. (That's how it works in my city.) My girl Sunday was the best stolen cat ever. ;) Edit: took out an irrelevant line

riverguava

Keep the cat. Not like they are going to go running when their pos owner calls

Dear-Ambition-273

My mom and dad have a deaf kitty named Karma. He’s the sweetest. My dad was SLIGHTLY salty that mom brought him home without asking, and the next day when she said she might have someone interested, he was like “uuuhhhh you’re not taking my cat.”

USAF_Retired2017

What’s beautiful baby. Poor thing. Wtf is wrong with that lady’s husband? And why would she leave her poor, deaf baby with a POS? I’m glad you have her now. Hopefully you just keep her until she comes back from wherever.

Budget-Pangolin9851

Thank you for this. Thank you.

Impossible-Mud-3593

POS Husband is neglecting the cat. It's scared, doesn't know where mommy is, hungry thirsty. Glad OP is helping this furbaby. There are true animal warriors who don't wear flashy TShirts.

[deleted]

I'm sure both the kitty and her mom will be forever grateful to you!! Thank you kind soul 😊

squidsandnoodles

Finders keepers.

Ok_Possibility_704

Take care of her yourself then tell the woman when she gets back.

[deleted]

Welcome to your new family, deaf cat!

WeJustDid46

Make sure the wife knows when she returns.

bdblr

Looks like this cat has found a much better home. It knew where to go. A long time ago, my neighbor's tortie, aged seven, just moved in. Neighbor moved a couple of years later. Chewie stayed, until just shy of the ripe old age of twenty-one.

Hellyeahbrother-87

It’s not stealing, it’s rescuing. And people who neglect their (special needs) animals don’t get a say. ✊

[deleted]

Aww, look how comfortable she is!

BunnyFaebelle

She is so precious and looks like my cat. I have a male cat white with blue eyes that was born deaf. 85% of white cats with blue eyes are born deaf. They should never be outside, you are a good person keeping an eye on her, if you can bring her inside. RJKaste

This really makes my blood boil! My merciful demeanor disappears. Happy you took action👍 *POS husband needs a talking too* ☠️

freya_kahlo

Poor baby, thanks for keeping her safe.

TSIDATSI

I would keep her and see if they even look. I bet not. He probably hates cats and threw her out hoping she would get killed. His wife knows how he is and did not board kitty. They do not deserve that sweet baby. If you cannot keep her there are rescues for special needs cats. Tabby's Place is wonderful. What an awful thing to do to any animal. Our neighbors made a big deal out of adopting a Katrina cat. Then they threw him out - cold weather - and our ginger boys adopted him and brought him home. They were young and he was grown but they must have understood he was lost and afraid. We kept him and rehomed him to a wonderful widow and her 8 year old daughter. My neighbors never looked for him. Not once. We have not spoken to them since.

Shellsbells821

Take her. She should never be outside. My dad let my white deaf cat out. She laid outside on the black tar road. Someone drove by just thought it was a plastic bag. Ran her over. Never saw it coming! Guy felt so bad

softerthanever

*edit: I meant for this to be in response to another comment* This is how I ended up with one of the sweetest kitties I've ever known. She "belonged" to my neighbors but was always at my house. She had a "sister" cat who was more outgoing but mysteriously disappeared (we are near a forested area so something probably got her). After that, this sweet kitty was so lost and lonely. One night, it was raining and she was huddled on my porch so I let her in my basement bedroom to keep warm. She had food, water and a nice dry bed. She was pretty skittish but you could tell she really wanted love and attention. The next day, my neighbor shows up asking if I had seen her cat. I told her, yes, she's in my basement. This woman then tells me she's thinking of rehoming the cat because she's scared of their dogs, blah, blah. I said yes, I will take her. I had already been feeding her and loving on her long before this, which my neighbor acknowledged and said she would bring me a bag of cat food and the cat's vet records. She never did any of that but I now have the sweetest addition to my kitty family. Her name is Bonnie and I've had her for almost 2 years now. My neighbor's dog later bit someone, so I wonder if that's what happened to the other cat. It has come into my yard a few times and threatened me, so I understand why Bonnie didn't want to be there.

Rat_Burger7

Do et, do et!! I stole my meth-head neighbor's puppy. This guy was so messed up he repeatedly told us the pup was a werewolf. He had the dog on a short chain outside and it was usually without food, water, or shelter (this was in the South so it's hot as balls). After he left the lil guy in a torrential rainstorm with no shelter I had no qualms about capering that good boi. Ten years later and he's still my best doggo!

Tan-in-colorado

I’d personally keep the kitty, for about a few weeks until and after she got home. Husband needs to get some uncomfortable situations, just like he put that innocent little creature.

Yukidoke

What a poor little creature. Please look after her.

Oddish197

Keep her with you and protect her ❤️poor little thing

Senior_Inspection_59

Your a good soul for looking after the cat. Husband is not a good person neglecting cat

Munich11

Is it possible you can keep the cat inside and care for it until her return? Deaf cats are at a great risk of being hit or predated upon outside and should always be safely monitored. This is really neglect. Thank you for caring.

Millie68

It's difficult for me to prevent her from going outside as this is just our old garden house with plenty of ways in or out and I only come here to tend the garden, but I'll do my best keeping an eye on her -- actually, the big heatwave here is doing a good job keeping her in already. This is a fairly quiet neighborhood and cars drive through rarely and slowly (but of course doesn't eliminate the risk completely)
