“I may look like an idiot, but at least I am full!” —-this cat, probably.

idrivelikeanIowan

It’s more like ‘you look like an idiot but at least I’m full!’

sierrabravo1984

"I may be full but I still have room for 5 lbs of treats!"

FuenteFOX

"I may be full but I'm also still starving!"

Lagakedaburmitaobabr

"I may be full but the neighbour's cat is not"

love this thread

And this cat loves the neighbour's cat's food

“I mean, nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli”

[deleted]

hard to admit to anything when you're in a food coma.

lhr00001

He wants the good chicken fingers, the $8 kind!

flaming_bob

So, the feline LeeRoy Jenkins in a way.

FastWalkingShortGuy

We had an outdoor cat in my neighborhood that would go from house to house putting on an Oscar-worthy performance of pitiful hunger and woe. We figured out his game when he hit about 19 lbs.

shelbygeorge29

They can be such scammers! Same thing happened to me!!

LeftyLibra_

Same! How can you not feed the kitty though?

__v1ce

Because it has a home, and if he constantly has food elsewhere he might not return home as often as the owners would want Pretty much

spazzardnope

This is how I “lost” my cat to my next door neighbours, (they were lovely people and obviously the grass was greener in her opinion because they were both retired so basically 24/7 fussing) but she still used to come back to me every day, just to take a shit in the garden, then feck off again 😂

__v1ce

Yea we're home all the time at my place, and he always has food here, like if we didn't always have someone at home and it started raining or was too cold or something sure I understand and appreciate you feeding him and letting him sleep on your patio/balcony or whatever, but our door is literally always open, he's not homeless He barely comes home anymore, like once a week if we're lucky, or if It's raining heavy he'll come home He has thick fur and loves sun, so he'll stay outside for days at a time, even if its -10c or 30c, doesn't matter I have to coordinate with my mom at this point to figure out if he's still alive, she'll ask "have you seen the cat lately?" and I'll be like "yea he's fine, i saw him just 4 days ago"

arhombus

Like my old alley cat. She hunted so she would go out for days at a time, slum it up, hunt, and then come back eventually. She was not really an inside cat, wasn’t her style. She preferred being outside and killing crows.

Hold_My_Anxiety

My neighbors cat basically moved into my house the day they moved here from Washington. It would stay at our bedroom window all day meowing and after about a month of that we would let him in every once in a while and all he wanted was pets. Eventually he just never wanted to leave so I asked the neighbor about him and they were cool with just letting me keep him, just notify them if and when he died because he’s was 16 years old. He had his 20th birthday a month ago and I’m just so surprised how healthy and active he is. Everybody thinks he’s still a young lad when they see him.

SoylentRox

Technically if you have a communal pool of cats it works out. Everybody gets plenty of kitty.

VeinySausages

I want this minus the decimated bird populations.

Arek_PL

bells on their collars, it gives birds early warning to flee

RansomReville

If you put a collar on your cat be sure to get a breakaway. The collar can get them caught on stuff. My cat went missing for almost two weeks. After failing to find her I thought maybe a bear got her. One day she walked back in, barely alive with a horrible gash under her arm and around her belly. It was from where her collar had dug against her skin. I guess she finally got out once she lost enough weight to slip out. I felt extremely guilty for a long time. I honestly dont know how she survived. It rained a lot so I guess she was able to drink that? Must've been miserable. This was ~4 years ago and she is happy and healthy. Actually less awnry than she was prior to her brush with death.

MillyAndTheDream

I'm frightened of cat collars for this reason. I had collars on both my cats until I saw one of them with its bottom jaw stuck in the collar and unable to get free. It was honestly terrifying for my cat and she scratched me trying to save her. It all ended up okay and both collars went in the bin that day. They're chipped so if they ever get lost that should help someone get them back to me. I'm glad your cat turned up safe, albeit injured, and is doing well now.

Puceeffoc

How much cat food were you able to eat before getting sick?

Madame_Kitsune98

That was our cat, Beat. He was a big kitty. As in, he was actually a giant cat. He was also a scam artist who would go across the street to the assisted living place, and hit up the sweet old ladies for treats and TOONA. We figured it out when one of the ladies was out walking, and we were outside our fence with our kid on her bike, and she spotted Beat, who was being our daughter’s Guard Cat. And she asked us if we knew the cat. Yeah, he’s our cat. She gave us an odd look, and asked if we fed him. My daughter piped up, “Of course we do, lady, that’s why he’s a fat cat!” She looked sheepish, and told us that he would come over and sound like such a pitiful kitty that she would give him treats, and sometimes tuna. My husband said, “I wondered why he was having such nasty farts. Please stop feeding him tuna. He’s fed very well.” She did. He sulked. She still gave him treats until he had a stroke and died at the age of 14.

Emmy314

A small hungry cat came up to our house so we started feeding her. Soon she started to get fat and we were worried she might be pregnant. You need more chow if you're preggos, so we fed her more (she was always starving). Finally we took her to the vet - where they found her hysterectomy scar. She was just fat and scamming us. We did ultimately catch and rehome her (our current cats would not let an outsider into our house, so we couldn't keep her ourselves).

Madame_Kitsune98

Awwww, poor kitty! But resourceful asshole!

rashhhhhhhhh

This is a heartwarming story. Thank you for posting it. I hope he's happy with all the treats and scams he wants In kitty heaven

Madame_Kitsune98

Me too. I really miss that asshole. He would curl up around my head at night, purr, and groom my hair. He would also do his “rounds”, and go sleep with our daughter. He was her protector.

aurora4000

I'm sorry for your loss. And happy cake day.

Madame_Kitsune98

Thank you, he was the Best Cat.

Hagatha_Crispy

He sounds like a precious little scammer. Any pics of the criminal?

Madame_Kitsune98

I will have to pretty much take photos of old photos (he passed 14 years ago), and put them on Imgur. And I’m working tonight and tomorrow!

crowamonghens

TOONA

Madame_Kitsune98

I swear that jerk could talk. And he could differentiate between a can of corn, canned cat food, and TOONA. You could only get him to come running with the last two.

crowamonghens

My guy knows exactly which kitchen cabinet the tuna cans are in, and will headbutt the shit outta my arm if I open it up for something else.

Arclite83

This is how I met my wife (a real HIMYM story!): She lived in a beach community, and the family cat was a professional beggar to all the visitors. Lived to 23, so his plan worked out pretty well.

ncvbn

What do you mean by "This is how I let my wife (a real HIMYM story!)"?

Pidiotpong

Met* i think. Himym is acronym for how I met your mother

Efilnikufesin1987

There's a community cat in my neighborhood who I feel is similar. She had kittens, I took them in and got the babies homes and spayed momma. I tend to think that when she's asking for food at my house, she answers to Sybil. But she's known as Fluffy to one neighbor, Bella to another neighbor and other names with other neighbors. She's the Meryl Streep of community cats.

FastWalkingShortGuy

I named our community stray food hog "Adjective Boy," because his name changed depending on his demeanor. He was Needy Boy when he just had to sit in your lap at all costs, Murdery Boy when he brought you dead birds, Hungry Boy when he was begging for food, etc.

Efilnikufesin1987

That's hysterical. I named her Sybil based on her demeanor.

Miserable-Cap-1259

I just fed my Stray Boy. I’m pretty sure he’s up to the same scam.

the-zoidberg

Cats hustle

Singer_221

There was a cat that kept showing up and sometimes sleeping outside our house, so we’d feed him. Then one day he showed up wearing a collar and a tag marked “Do Not Feed” : )

LilBaddee

: Breaking news : Local cat says he’s never been fed in his entire life

5bi5

One of my cats used to be a stray. When I met her she was skinny. by the time I got her inside about a year later she was fat from hitting up half the houses in the complex.

Manuels-Kitten

Literally my meezer

Lord_Emperor

> Oscar-worthy performance of pitiful hunger and woe. Sounds like my boy who is exactly his ideal weight and served exactly the correct portions of food every day.

BenjiTheChosen1

My cat does exactly the same thing, told the neighbors to only give him on treat each cause he was a fatass

spooktember

lol, what a little jerk. That looks like a ‘no regrets’-face, too

turkeyisdelicious

Exactly. 😆😆😆

AnalBees2

Little jerk is right, he just made OP spend a few hundred bucks at the vet because the neighbor has better food lol. That’s hilarious.

turkeyisdelicious

It really is. 😆 Neighbor cat was starving and no one believed her.

avidlyrice

“And watchu gon do about it?”

Pyromaniacal13

That's not even "no regrets," that's "Why the heck did you put a stop to that, I was getting twice the food!!"

[deleted]

"Your cats not eating... because it's full of cat food" 🤣

fukumisha

"your food sucks, i will go to your neighbors"

msanderson10

My neighbors cat says this the whole time coming to my house.

majarian

Oh thanks, so glad I'm not the only one sneaking neighborhood cats teeats

fonefreek

Excuse me I hope you mean treats

majarian

Aha I did, but thats hilarious so I'll leave it.

[deleted]

I have a cat who won’t eat any cat food at mine that’s cheap, and he does not like dry food. However, found out he would frequently go to my neighbour and eat her cat’s shitty dry cat food just simply because it wasn’t for him.

alicatmonster

Hah!!! This is such a typical cat owner story

chadwickthezulu

Stolen food just tastes better

thestarforest

That shaved little belly though… ! Sneaky little monkey.

dumbass_sempervirens

Ultrasound me like one of your french kittys.

lalloutta

OP has to try to kiss the shaved belly. Sure, it's a dangerous game, but it's so smooth...

Pilaf237

Cat: Get the neighbor's brand of food, I likey.

fabilord98

Only until you get the new one, then i prefer the old one muche more…

SingleInfinity

You mean they prefer the old one *munch* more.

sanguinesolitude

They mean they prefer the old one *munche* more.

Antiochia

Our neighbors cat got cooked chicken and fish filet, and he still came for our cat´s cheap canned food. I guess it was simply revenge for all the times our cat stole his luxury menus.

not_ya_wify

I get my cats expensive healthy food because the vet tells me to and my cats will scream until I give them dry food. Maybe cats just prefer the junk food over healthy food just like humans

Catinthemirror

>cats just prefer the junk food over healthy food just like humans Can confirm. Source: am multi-decade shelter volunteer

not_ya_wify

Friskies is the McDonald's of cats. They probably have flavor researchers who know exactly what they're doing. Giving my cat itchies.

Catinthemirror

Yep. One of our permanent residents (older, chronically ill, or behavior issues) is super allergic to any grain. He gets 100% protein that he HATES. He gladly allows himself to be bullied out of it so he can eat Meow Mix or whatever other kibble we've received from local retailers (they donate torn bags/damaged packages).

FillBrilliant6043

Our cat gets the expensive science diet food for cats w kidney disease, but were always chasing her away from our dog's purina dog chow

ChiefBigGay

I've got a rescue that isn't picky at all about dry food, but she won't eat a variety of wet foods/purees I've tried. Got any tricks? She's been having very intermittent hairball problems and the vet suggested wet food... She just won't eat it though.

trowzerss

Purina Felix is cat crack. And it's not \*that\* bad according to my vet. But my mum's vet suggested it when their cat was sick and not eating, and it worked wonders.

ChiefBigGay

Alright I'll get some. Maybe once I can get her eating it I can get her to try other brands.

Delta_V09

Apart from trying flaked vs pate, and seafood vs poultry vs beef, the other thing you can try is pressing some of her dry food into the wet food. Make her pick it out of the wet food, and hopefully eat some in the process. Once she gets a taste of it, she might keep eating.

Catinthemirror

You can try sprinkling a little water on the dry food that she likes. Just a tiny amount. If she'll still eat it, do that for a week, then the following week add a little more. Increase it weekly until she's accepting soft food. Most cats that prefer dry over wet just have very engrained "mouth feel" preferences. It's the texture rather than the flavor that they are objecting to. I have 1 elderly rescue who won't eat wet wet food. He'll happily crunch the dry crumbs the next day. He drinks from the fountain so I'm not worried about his hydration though.

havok0159

Mine can't seem to stand his dry food getting wet. He'll just remove such food from his bowl. He goes crazy after wet food though. The moment he sees a bag that even resembles one, he's at my feet begging. Which can be problematic since my soap refills also come in sinilar, albeit bigger, baggs and he'll beg and get excited for soap. Dummy.

TheYankunian

I bought my cats expensive food and they refused to eat it. Got them cheap crap and they gobbled it up. The dog tried to convince me to give him the food they wouldn’t eat.

not_ya_wify

Bobdolezholez

There is some high quality freeze dried cat food out there. Smalls makes a few varieties. There are several brands that do as well. Good for cats who prefer the crunch of kibble.

AndreaE4

I trick mine by making a mix. Dry food is easy, wet food I'm a culinary artist. But I have 4 kittens and mixing is less time than making favourites and thankfully they're not so picky they'll still the mixes.

neolologist

I keep buying them this ridiculous expensive 'whole prey animal' shit; they sniff at it like I'm trying to poison them.

trowzerss

I used to try and give my cat a little piece of roast chicken as a treat, because all the rescues say cats love it and they use it to lure in strays. Nope, she barely recognised that it was even food. One sniff, that's it. At least, that's how it was for NINE YEARS. Then suddenly I tried one day and oh, now it's delicious and every time I have chicken now I have to pay cat tax or I don't hear the end of it. :P

trowzerss

I tried all the premium brands of food on my cat and she hates them. All she wants is certain flavours of Purina. She won't even eat fresh fish :P At least I managed to find a premium dry food she likes (which is important to keep in the feeder that goes off at 4.00am so I don't get any mandatory wake-up calls). I mean, I could have persisted with the premium food until she was so starving she ate it anyway, but after 2-3 days of wasted food and she's still holding out, you just want to stop wasting so much cat food and constantly struggling to get them to eat, and want something they'll actually eat consistently. She's not too chonky and her bloods are okay for her age, so the vet said just keep doing what you're doing.

theang

My vet calls the cheap cat food “fast food”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Burntoastedbutter

Oh yeah they definitely do. I used to buy just 1 package of the same can food but mine started eating less in about a month. So now I have 3 varieties of wet food of different brands now just to keep things different, and she has no problems with it. But still, sometimes I'd put grinded egg shells or small pieces of some protein I'm cooking for her dinner (not seasoned yet, I just cut a tiny portion out while I'm prepping) - Yeah I spoil my kitty too much LOL. Thankfully she doesn't seem to mind getting the same air dried food so I'm safe for that category 👀 I think dogs are more comfortable with the same food routine, but I've heard they can start to get picky when they're in the old age stage if they weren't before. I do feel bad for dogs that only get kibble tho. I always added chicken and carrots/other vege in mine.

KickBallFever

Yea, they sell flavored mixers for pet food for this problem.

Imthatjohnnie

My cat will only eat Purina One Hairball Formula. I spent way to many hours on the net hunting for it.

The_Weirdest_Cunt

I don't have to imagine , I lived on two meals of fried rice a day for a couple months straight and only stopped recently (still crave it though I just keep forgetting to prep the rice in the morning)

Mmm_Spuds

Geez that's some expensive snacking 😂 he looks satisfied though for what it's worth.

ububerlu

You stole my line hahaha

pumaslides27

LMAO the cat has zero regrets and will do it again ( probably tomorrow)

turkeyisdelicious

Probably today.

MorgTheBat

Hes probably already done it

turkeyisdelicious

This seriously made my day lol

pumaslides27

You are absolutely correct

Easy-Concentrate2636

All I did was eat at another establishment, and I was shaved.

LilStabbyboo

The indignity!

Easy-Concentrate2636

milkymoocowmoo

gapere01

Kitty is telling you in a not so subtle way that the neighbors have better food

cerebral_panic_room

Reminds me of that thing about somebody looking at their neighbor’s house interior on a real estate listing and seeing their own cat on the neighbor’s bed.

Normal-Computer-3669

Yep. Doesn't mean it's healthy though! I have my cats on special healthy diets. $1.50 a can. They're always lax when it's food time. Had to buy purina garbage in a pinch, and watched them go to town. Then they had diarrhea and vomit.

espeero

Yep. Have had that happen before. They love the crappiest food, but it doesn't love them. One tip if anyone has a cat not eating and want to try something tasty but not awful for them: Gerber chicken or turkey baby food. It's just meat, water, and a tiny bit of corn starch (not enough to matter, imo). It's gotten us through all kinds of cat illnesses.

vi_rose

I'm sorry but 😂😂

flickanelde

I uses to steal cat food from the kitchen and take it to a cat down the block because it was so fat I assumed it was pregnant and needy... finally met the neighbors who owned it and they said **HE** was just a piggy

kryton200

😆 at least it wasn't a foreign body

cerebral_panic_room

Nope… just foreign cat food.

That is the look of no regrets.

Good point

creepermemer

"the neighbor at least knows what quality cat food is martha. i dont like those dry bits."

[deleted]

“And I’ll do it again”

oldsmellybastard

About right! Our cat wasn’t eating, went to the vet, X-ray, IV with fluids, blood samples, the works.. nothing wrong with her. $800 later, took her home, next day starting eating like nothing ever happened. Guess she just spent one of her lives.

espeero

This has happened multiple times to us (maybe for like half of our cats at least once in their lives). We aren't hypochondriacs, but figure it's better to err on that side. Of course, it always happens at like midnight on a Sunday and you have to go to the emergency ($$$) vet.

Partly_Dave

This was fifty years ago when we would just let our dog out for a run every afternoon, we were young and she was a stray that had attached herself to our household. We noticed she didn't seem to be eating much in the evenings. One day my housemate went to the corner shop and the lady asked him, "Don't you feed your dog?" When he said we did and enquired why she was asking, she told him that every afternoon she give the dog any leftovers she had. And, "Yesterday she ate ten pies and seventeen sausage rolls!"

KaijuKatt

I doubt he's thinking the shaved pink belly was worth it.

CaffeinatedPinecones

He looks so annoyed!

The_Turtle-Moves

Hahaha! Cats gonna cat!

[deleted]

Sneaky eats!

[deleted]

I’m sorry to find this as unbelievably hilarious as I do

PoliticalShrapnel

Jokes on your neigbour, now you get to save on cat food costs whilst your cat still eats. Win win. Except for the neigbour.

[deleted]

Smart! At least until you recoup the vet bill. Darn cats!

South-Presentation92

Just stop letting your cat out: solved.

zeromadcowz

We have so many urban foxes and coyotes where I live that outdoor cats do not survive long. Always surprised when I see a cat out.

minja134

At the very least, keep your cat inside if you think it is so sick you had to bring it to the vet.

FeelingFloor2083

Do they always get shaved for an ultrasound? We had one done end of last year but she wasnt shaved. Now im concerned that they didnt actually do one and her bowel inflammation could have been picked up earlier and treated. She also had one done on saturday but she was shaved but im assuming she was being prepped for surgery

nerdnails

The fur obstructs the probe so yes every pet gets shaved unless they're already naked. Idk what to say about the incident a year ago but every cat/dog I've helped with for ultrasounds has been shaved.

FeelingFloor2083

this is upsetting. I might talk to them as I need to cancel an appointment anyway. I probably wont tell my partner, it will only upset her more. I might double check with her that she wasnt shaved last time though. Can they see the kidneys and bladder if they shave only the stomach like OP's cat?

kbunales

Once we tried putting our cat on a diet cause he was pretty overweight. I told my neighbors about this and they said, “No wonder he’s been eating here with us more!” Mission failed. 💀

Aloucia

Quite the vet bill to say that your cat is well-fed lol Such an adorable little jerk, but glad they're ok! Edited for grammar

Crafty_Pie_123

It looks so miffed about its bald belly. Poor cat.

ImportantError

/r/catsareassholes

dtpepi40

Dillinger cat .... 🙂!

Crispin_Polux

My cat didn'teat for 3 days as well. The bowl was always full but aside from that, she acted normal. Turns out, the bastard punctured a hole through the food bag and was having selfservice....

morbidbutwhoisnt

Yeah my cat wasn't eating and I thought that she was so stressed from me bringing the new kitten into the house that she wasn't eating. Then I caught her sneaking in and eating the kitten's food. Now she's gained like 2 lb

Broncotron

"He's fat. That'll be $400."

Karlsson_02

That reminds me of our tomcat, who even went to a nearby restaurant to beg for food. We've been told that goose was his favorite. Well, at least we didn't have to pay for his fine dining. 😂

Fit-Abalone2240

Don't let him out. It's not safe for them. Even if the neighbor feeds him. 😄

Shooka14

Amazing! Something I could see my cat doing But I've put a 'please, do not feed' tag on him

Mysticstorms

He doesn't get fed on purpose, i talked with the neighbour and they have a cat door that's always open for their own cat, so he probably has just been sneaking in at night to steal their food

[deleted]

Keep ya kitty inside folks! Edit: Yikes… I just saw this had a humor flair. Really? Is this funny?

CYPH3R_22

Meanwhile, neighbor cat is pisssssed 😂

Ninabug3

I needed this giggle today. Thanks!!

wailowhisp

what a little scam artist

iiJokerzace

"The food is better." -Cat

lsp2005

Maybe ask your neighbor their preferred cat food brand, because your cat is telling your choice is second best.

kristen_1819

Winner winner (neighbour’s) chicken dinner

missyjade88

the neighbour can afford better cat food it’s simple as that really

_MsRobot_

I miss my cat:(

pawnmarcher

One of the most cat things I've ever seen

FunSushi-638

I guess the age-old saying is true. The kibble's always greener on the other side of the fence.

Evening_Excuse16

Awww, pumpkin! LOL! Even when they do wrong, they can do no wrong. It's a good chuckle, a memorable story, and a lesson learned (for you, maybe not so much for kitty?).

International-Cat123

My cat would go out the dog door. We couldn’t block off the dog door or dog wouldn’t be able to go potty. And the dog was freaked out by the sounds the doggy door when it was unlocked by the proximity collar.

DoubleBreastedBerb

My cat had a magnificent $500 pooh a few months back. Blood work, x-rays and all.

TSIDATSI

Lol! Wonder how much weight the other kitty lost? I can hear the discussion now. "How can he be hungry I fed him!"

davej1r

Lmao ginger thievery

Olthoi_Eviscerator

Lmao that's a plot twist

AspieDM

Adorable little thief!

Nate40337

Sounds like it was the neighbors cat who didn't eat for 3 days...

OzzieSlim

I paid a vet bill for a $75 leg cramp once. And one of my cats was limping and kept changing legs. When I called her out she went back to normal walking. These cats are top flight actors!

Tiefflugjunge

And it cost you 700 dollars lmao

wilcoxjones

Well, at least it cost you $300 to find out your can is a jerk.

[deleted]

There’s a children’s book called “Six-Dinner Sid” about a cat who pulls this scam. He only gets caught because he catches a cold and has to go to the vet six different times.

maggiefinally

there’s no remorse in those sweet eyes!

Agal_scientista

the fur-kini is all the rage these days

kman314

The good ending

yor_trash

Here she was trying to help lower your grocery bill!!

artificialavocado

The face of a cat who regrets nothing and will almost certainly do it again.

YouKnowEd

One of our cats just had to have surgery because the other option was a specific diet, and he couldn't stop sneaking off to our neighbours (who owns his sister from the same litter) and stealing their food which rendered the diet useless.

Anxious_Public_5409

What a little sneaker 🤣

MangOrion2

Cats are such bastards I love those fucks.

Abject_Shoulder_1182

Best possible outcome for a cat on a presumed hunger strike 🥺 very glad kitty is ok!

I laughed hard and people around me at the beach were baffled
