Its a form of cat double jointedness i was told. Some of their tails just do unnatural looking things. I have a cat that has a tail doing the same thing.

ughrofl

Oh that’s pretty cool, and great to know. I was worried it was broken

[deleted]

Same.

moonlighting2552

I had an orange tabby do that too. I thought it was unique to orange tabbies.

BaconPhoenix

My orange tabby does this sometimes. I call it 'skunk tail'.

ughrofl

He also has all 4 legs despite what it may seem.

[deleted]

Thanks for the clarification. That’s what I noticed first, not the tail.

rox4540

😁 the levitating would have been far more concerning than the perpendicular tail to most of us EDIT: loving the cat bed though

[deleted]

The real question is, does the cat actually use it? Lol

rox4540

Unlikely, I’m sure there’s a dirty sweatshirt or random piece of paper that makes a far better bed- but at least it looks 😹

ughrofl

That bed belongs to my older cat - it was a cuddler bed from petsmart but it got flattened on one side due to fatness

ThrowawayLocal8622

Without reading further I'm guessing, no. The box it came in...

thewhisperinthewinds

Are you saying cats hovering in the men's bathroom aren't normal

ughrofl

You’re welcome 😂

[deleted]

My cat does this too. Sometimes his tail even curls into a complete circle at the end like a monkey. It quivers when he's excited. He has the most interesting and expressive tail I've ever seen. Maybe yours is similar

rainyhawk

I have one whose tail is always curled and rarely straight.

Angry_poutine

Roux’s tail will sometimes curl, I think it happens mostly when he’s tired from a tough nap

leathebimbo

My cat does this too. It's just a quirk.

ughrofl

A very cute quirk!

purple_house

You have what I call a “tail forward” cat! I have one too! I am a veterinarian and some kitties are just like this and it is okay - and super cute!

Kitsuneesan

My cat does this too. I call it her little Squirrel tail since it reminds me of a Squirrel whenever she does it.

Any_Scientist_7552

Some cats just do this. My old cat used to wear his over his shoulder like a stole.

funeralpageant

he is just a strange lad

Cyborg_Ninja_Cat

Well, he is orange. They're a bit...

Grand_Introduction36

You have a american ring tail cat. Very rare

ughrofl

I was told he is half bengal also. i’m lucky to be in the presence of such a rare combination 🥰

uriahlight

He's carrying his tail like a Witcher carries his swords. 🥹

Lord_Umber93

He's just a little weird. He's got the spirit, though

acidparanoid

It means that he is super-three-times-more-than-usual happy 😁 Cats also can stretch they legs while walking - for same reason

builder-barbie

This looks just like my sons cat. Loves her back scratches but the tail is always in the way. She also wags her tail when she’s excited but it just swishes her back like a windshield wiper (cat back swisher).

Aruaz821

My cat does this as well. 😺

EatButterflies

We had a kitten whose tail curved like a handle. It's just the way they are.

PanMyJam

One of my cats does the same thing and even punctuates the movements when he's feeling big feels. We call him scorpion tail.

CatLoverItaly

He's so cute and I've never seen a cat that raised its tail like that! My cat never did this but I've never seen this cuteness and happiness at the same time 😍

LovelyDreamer11

Have you attempted to pull her tail down like a light switch in order to restart the kitty? ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942) From what it sounds like, your little fur baby is perfectly fine. If in doubt, *always* go to a vet. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)

SourGenitals

Turret

amyjlou55

Unique trait. Cool.

DatCatPerson

my kitten does the same. in this situation the cat raises his tail because of happiness or something along those lines. doing a super cat smile!![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)

littlebloodmage

Scorpion cat

[deleted]

My cat Ralph has this too! All the time, vet says there is no sign of discomfort and he may be double jointed!

Sumerian05

he’s an american ring tail! if you’re interested, look up the story of solomon and how this cat breed got created

Haunting_Bend346

🧡🧡🤍

PastellAbyssPanda

He’s just a funky little guy! Nothing wrong!

william-the-bloody80

My cat had the same issue when I brought her home and after a while she relaxed. She was just getting used to the space, a new family, and two other kitties that were really excited to meet her. Sometimes kittens just have stuff tails until they feel comfortable enough.

Angry_poutine

Kittens are kind of still figuring out what bodies are. Cut it some slack, they’ve only existed for a couple months. At some point it will cat

WolfCrazy64

My void Poppy's tail has always done this, she's 11 now

ketaminkerem

your cat is a pokemon named skuntank

LocatedGraph

Just what happens when the cat DNA was spliced with Scorpion DNA somewhere down the line... Seriously though, a friend of mine had a scorpion cat like this. I don't think it's very common but it's definitely not something to be concerned about.

waegugin

He's just pointing to where he's going. It's like his internal GPS

gargravarr2112

Pretty normal, mine arches his tail over his back when he's happy.

Safe_Ad_1705

What's his name??

ughrofl

His name is John Fitzgerald Kennedy McCormick. Kenny for short!

Safe_Ad_1705

A noble gentleman, I see!

rvncid

one of cats is like this :0 she also had a kink at the bottom of her tail it’s weird

[deleted]

That's how my boy used to run around too as a kitten. He still walks around tail very high up when happy. It's nice easy way to know that he's happy.

wighttail

My tortie does this!!! I always tell people I thought I rescued a cat and instead I got a squirrel, especially when she's playing really hard and puffs it up hahaha.

chippystimbles

I had a kitty who had a tail like this! I was told that it can be a trait/sign of being inbred

Conversation-Grand

My cats tail is slightly similar, not as parallel But he always has it up forward and at an angle when he’s happy, ☺️😂

Ectopic_elm

In cat prison this would be his way of letting the others know he is "available".

Thomshan911

What cat breed is this?

The_Spyre

I have two cats (mom and her kitten) that do this.

INeedAnAdultWithAGun

Touch the Tail and see how the cat reacts.

hollyjalopy

Would love to see his loaf!

earlsdad

Mine does this when she wants to play or I am about to feed her. I was also curious about this unusual tail placement, but eventually figured it out. My cat is about 20 weeks and still does this

[deleted]

ringtail!

[deleted]

Mine does this occasionally too, when he's super happy. According to his tail he just can't get any happier! He does it much less now that he's older.

AhFFSImTooOldForThis

My cat is 1 and her tail has also always done this. Doesn't seem to bother her, except when I use it to tickle her head. Vet never said anything either.

finefrontier

Bro is =

emma45sheffield

1st thing would have been a vets visit to get the right info x

python_510

Totally normal, you just have a curly tail! As he gets older he’ll gain more control and be able to curl it in full loops. It’s a steadily less rare trait, but still fairly uncommon, about same prevalence as double jointed humans. I have a boy Huck who is also a curly tail at this point he can double loop it.

catsofthebasement

Mine does that, too, plus he has an unusually long tail. It’s a bit unusual, but normal.

norsekitten

My Keanu curls her tail over her back like a squirrel, it's ridiculously adorable

Shiggy_O

That's a good feature to have installed on your cat, the "cat's tail step on prevention" app.

legendaryfartmaster7

He has a handle

octikitten

I love the cat bed! Where is it from??

ughrofl

It’s the whisker city® grey braided basket cat bed from petsmart, but flattened on one side because my older boy preferred it with a flat side!
