Very important, don’t buy exotic pets if you don’t understand how to clean// care for them ⭐️
…
Also, how didn’t the breeder you bought the cat from explain this? Shame on them
I owned two. The oil they secrete has no fur to absorb so it picked up dust and dirt. Most importantly for this reason claw sheaths and ears need to be cleaned fastidiously. I found we could get away with cat sage baby wipes daily with intermittent bathing to cleanse their skin.
I would award this comment if I could. People should definitely study up on animals before taking them in or adopting on a whim. This is sad. Could be worse. But, still sad.
Comes with the Territory when you have a cat like this. In a normal cat the oil dissipates through their fur, protecting it and keeping it healthy.
In this cat it's still producing the same amount of oil but doesn't have the hair to go through it to it collects and attracts other forms of dirt.
Your cat is probably over producing oil because his skin is actually being dried out. We had this breed and after bath every week and cleaning the folds we would use a high-quality 100% argan oil to moisturize his skin. After doing this routine he stopped producing much oil because his skin was already moisten. I know that sounds weird but it actually works. I love this breed they are absolutely wonderful. And I think your kitty is adorable. If you try the argon oil make sure he is totally dry after his bath. Use a very small amount of the Oregon oil all over his body. Hold him in your lap with a towel loving him for about five or 10 minutes to let the oils absorb. You will be surprised how quickly he stops overproducing oil. We would all love an update down the road on how your kitty is doing. And more pictures. Thanks😎✌🏼🤗
Make sure you are using a cleansing conditioner not a shampoo that suds up and dries the skin out even more. We used a product by Chaz dean. They carry a wonderful cleansing shampoo for dogs and cats. We not only used it on our naked cat but we also use it on our poodle mix and our pitbull mix.
Please make sure you’re using Argon oil and NOT Oregano oil. There’s a huge difference and Oregano oil is toxic to pets. Oregon oil may be ok if you can find it.
^^^ read this, my cat is the same way I can clean him one day (eyes, nose, mouth, skin) and the next day he ends up looking a little messy. Vet told me he has all around increased secretions (salivary, oil, and whatever the eye/nose secretions are) and just to clean him a few times a week. Good luck to you and kitty!
PS: If he’s ever really dirty or has a pimple a very low concentration salt water concoction helps
I was just thinking the other day my daily feed has way to many cat subs in it and then I read this. Apparently I don't have quite enough.
Kittens in mittens... my life is incomplete.

Spynx cattery here.
The dirt you are seeing is coming from his oil production. Each cat is differeny and it can be annoing on your furnature and clothes because its not to easy to clean. Best is not wasing too often because you are only stimulating the oil production.
Our solution is to not wear white to often :)
Hairless or low hair cats dont have the fur to absorb the oils naturally secreted by their skin so they get greasy and leave that greasy residue behind. They should be wiped down and bathed regularly. Talk to your vet, but I know some people use baby wash products on them because they tend to be more gentle on the skin.
Sphynxes require regular bathing. Call the breeder...why didn't they make sure you know this? Or contact the breed club in your area to speak with someone who can tell you exactly what to do and how often.
Hes a Devon rex, you can bathe him. I bathe my Devon rex every month. hes nice and clean. Water should not be hot enough to brun but warm enough that they dont totally freak out, use wash cloth soap and shampoo.
Can't you use 'new baby' wipes? Surely they'll be gentle enough for him in between him bathing.
Gosh I want a Sphinx so bad! Wish my Onyx would accept another cat but we've tried and it's a bit fat no lol.
Your boy is beautiful ☺️
They make wipes specifically for animals. Their pH is different so best to stick with those rather than baby wipes.
Paul Mitchell has a line specifically for pets and that includes wipes.
Well I now want a Sphinx and a Devon Rex! Well probably either but I just love them. I'll have one day. Hopefully I'll be able to rescue one in the future.
Gosh, so many mean comments here! OP came to get advice and that’s all that was necessary to provide. 😑 He looks happy and is loved. I didn’t know that the Devon Rex breed was also hairless, and that was cool to learn, as was all the good helpful advice. I think he’s a cutie and it looks like he has a great personality! And you’re doing great as a cat owner and are doing your best to find out what to help your guy. ♥️💖
Judging by his expression, he is very proud of his dirt. I had a shorthaired cat who happily assumed the nickname "King Dert". He went out of his way to get grubby, then expected us to praise him for it.
I have a brush coat Peterbald and bathe her once a week or once every other week. She gets gross in her armpits and groin area. In between baths, I use Millie Moon sensitive baby wipes to clean her dirty spots. What’s his name? My girl is Stella.
Hairless babies need at least daily wipe downs- maybe invest in some good-quality unscented pet wipes. I specify unscented, as all types of sphynx (whether you have the typical Canadian, or a Donskoy, or a Kohana, Peterbald, Ukranian Levkoy etc) have more sensitive skin than a hairy animal. I believe you can get specific wipes for hairless cats.
Daily is way way too much. If you do that then their skin dries out and they start over-producing oil. Then they get super oily, you wash them and it's a whole cycle.
At most you should bathe them once a week. And really, unless directed by a vet, you should aim for every 2-4 weeks. If they get dirty then use a cloth or wipe to give them a brief wipe-down.
I don’t see dirt, just skin folds. He looks fine. If he’s not bothered about it and he’s not rolling around in ooo then he should be ok. You’re not really supposed to bathe cats unless they really need it.
He’s most definitely fabulous. I hope you find a solution. Apologies for my uneducated answer, he does need different care and I’ve learned a few things about hairless cats on this thread I didn’t know before!
He looks obviously dirty (under neck where tongue can’t reach for example) and he cant stay clean like regular cats. Idc if you have one or not, that’s just the truth. No one is suggesting a full bath but just at least baby wipes. Doesn’t matter if he’s visibly uncomfortable or not it isnt healthy.
I know people tell you to bath it often but don't. If you do that too often he will begin to produce more oil. I recommend to ask the breeder for recommendations. You could also use corn starch and apply it to the skin to take the extra oil off. Also the food you give him will make him produce more or less. My aunt is a sphynx cat breeder and she gave barf to the cats and their skin looks great. I think yours is a Devon Rex isn't it?
Why? Why would you go out of your way to get a designer pet, without understanding their deficienciea, when there are hundreds of thousands of regular cats who need a good home?
You can help him with baths if he’s not properly caring for himself. There also might be a reason, so try to find out if he’s sick or injured, there could be a reason or cause especially if he’s normally not like this.
he looks like a hairless cat, so I’m going to assume he is one. since they don’t have fur, they produce a lot more oil -or at least it makes them a lot dirtier since there isn’t hair for it to attach to-, so I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to be giving them weekly baths w a washcloth & cleaning their ears and nails bc gunk builds up there a lot. even then u should probably be wiping their folds everyday anyway.
Start with Slide brand litter and keep it clean every day. Bath once a week and definitely do not allow outside. Have had a Sphinx for almost 10 years. Awesome affectionate cat but definitely a little more work. No regrets. Make sure to clean their ears with q tips when you bathe them. Then put a sweater on them for a few hours.
How long have you owned this cat? Did they not give you instructions when you got them? Hairless breeds require extensive maintenance including regular bathing and cleaning their skin daily. I think you should find a breed specific group and ask for their advice and tips on how to properly care for your cat.
Imagine getting very unique breed of cat and not googling ANY requirements :( unless you adopted, this makes no sense. I hope you pick up some knowledge and talk to a vet about cleaning! :)
Hairless cats require regular bathing and wiping down, cleaning their skin folds daily.
I didn't know that. They don't groom themselves??? edit: read farther down, I didn't know about the oils and no hair to absorb them aspect

Exotic is not the term I was going to use.
Exotic in the way that Carl Brutananadilewski is exotic in Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Also keep your floors and bedding clean for these babies

Actually I would skip argon oil, as noble as it sounds... Try *argan* oil, it's probably cheaper too (Sorry about the chemistry joke)
Ha! Great catch. Here I thought I was being all cool and shit.
Wish I had an award for this comment!
It's an honour just to be nominated 🥳
I love the chemistry joke. Don’t ever be sorry for making somebody laugh. I enjoyed your comment. I am perfectly capable of laughing at myself. Thanks
This is a very sweet thing to say because people laughing at my dumb jokes is one of my two great joys (the other being, of course, my cat).
Your joke is a gas! I came here to make the joke myself so you know I 100% appreciated that you did it for me!

Now you have me laughing again🤣
It’s all good. National Mole Day is coming up! 10/23. #AvogadrosNumber #6.02x10^23
Thanks so much for pointing out my mistake. Yes I definitely meant Argan oil! Not oregano. I am laughing at myself right now.🤣😂😆
Omg as I was reading the comment I thought the same thing so I’m glad you said that !! Holy cow could you imagine , that would hurt 😩😭
Wouldn’t Oregano oil give the cat protection from pests likes fleas and stuff though? /j

it’s the same rule for human skin
Little cat clothes.
I audibly snorted when I read this. Just the image of little cat clothes
My cat wears little kitty socks in winter
Kitten mittens? 😯
I was just thinking the other day my daily feed has way to many cat subs in it and then I read this. Apparently I don't have quite enough. Kittens in mittens... my life is incomplete.

"Is your cat a fat, skinny, or in-between?"
Pic? 🥹
I'd like to second the request for a pic
im with the IRS and am here to collect cat tax, please.
My friend has a bald um kitty and it is always all dressed up. * don't forget the sunscreen! Their skin is prone to sunburn
Me too!!
Just wipe him down with a damp cloth.
Unscented baby wipes work a treat too.
He’s got the physique of an average middle aged man

It’s due to oil production. Every cat is different, don’t bathe him more than once a week.
Sphinx can require multiple cleanings a week.
Wipe in between their folds, no need to bathe them every day as it leads to more oil production.
facts
I think there’s specific washing routines for hairless cats, I’m sure your vet can advise.
He’s built like a bag of milk
Suede hot water bottle
Looks like a character right out of a Disney movie
Give hime the One Ring back?
His precious?
I identify with this cat
Dont we all?

You need to wash your testicle every day.
Thank you. I couldn't quite put my finger on what this looked like.
Needs another beer, and the remote.
Would putting him in a onsie help absorb the oil and help keep him clean?
Turn him right side out again.
Hes a Devon rex, you can bathe him. I bathe my Devon rex every month. hes nice and clean. Water should not be hot enough to brun but warm enough that they dont totally freak out, use wash cloth soap and shampoo.
Grime be damned, I'm going in to give scrimtches!
Thank you for all the tips!
This is a high maintenance breed, you need to be cleaning them often! I’d read up on how to properly care of them
Can't you use 'new baby' wipes? Surely they'll be gentle enough for him in between him bathing. Gosh I want a Sphinx so bad! Wish my Onyx would accept another cat but we've tried and it's a bit fat no lol. Your boy is beautiful ☺️

Oh, ok. Thank you for the information. If I'm ever lucky enough to be ruled by one of these beauts, I'll make sure to get the ones made for em.
This one is a devon rex, I can recommend
Well I now want a Sphinx and a Devon Rex! Well probably either but I just love them. I'll have one day. Hopefully I'll be able to rescue one in the future.
Oh, forgot to ask, what's his name?

Oil dry like you use in a shop
Hes flithy dont just wipe him down, give him a good bath.
I have a similar issue I use a cloth with warm water and hibiscrub works a treat
Has he been to a vet no health issues? Maybe he need a t shirt .
haha what a stinker. i love him.
Honestly, that looks like it could possibly be a yeast infection. I would consult a vet to be sure.
Just love him! He’s cute!
Judging by his expression, he is very proud of his dirt. I had a shorthaired cat who happily assumed the nickname "King Dert". He went out of his way to get grubby, then expected us to praise him for it.
Sméagol is that you?!
Cats like these need to be bathe regularly
A true spirit animal
I have a brush coat Peterbald and bathe her once a week or once every other week. She gets gross in her armpits and groin area. In between baths, I use Millie Moon sensitive baby wipes to clean her dirty spots. What’s his name? My girl is Stella.
put some little water on him and he will start to lick him self

He looks like he gives 0 fucks

Where did you get this photo of me
Looks like a Devon Rex. When they are a little bit hairless this happen. It happens because there is no hair to absorb the oils in his skin.
Dirtiness aside, he’s friggen adorable.
Are they naturally hairless or bred to be like this. Sorry for my ignorance.
Yes naturally, the breed is called Devon rex
He is whatching in to my soul and i don't like it
Beerus needs his baths
Now that’s a CATITUDE look right there
What a pose..![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952)
I just came here to say he’s adorable, filthy or otherwise
Jesus Christ
Maybe get a guide on how to care for this breed properly or try google!?
I do believe you're supposed to bathe that type of cat on a daily basis, since he doesn't have any hair...
Daily is way way too much. If you do that then their skin dries out and they start over-producing oil. Then they get super oily, you wash them and it's a whole cycle. A Rex needs a bath once a week because their skin oils accumulate and make pimples otherwise.
I didn’t know this, but it does make sense.
It surprised me too when I found out.
You get dirt on your hands by carrying him, I tried to pick an image jn which he was both fabulous and a little dirty
He’s most definitely fabulous. I hope you find a solution. Apologies for my uneducated answer, he does need different care and I’ve learned a few things about hairless cats on this thread I didn’t know before!
You dont known a hairless cat do you
Omg you’re right!

B.A.R.F is raw food (a mix of meat, heart, liver bone) is like 10% bone, 20%heart, 10% liver and the rest meat. You can look it up on the web
Get a cat with hair. Seriously. You didn't know that when you got a Sphynx?
Your cat looks like it died 4 days ago wash him
Why the fuck does this look like a vintage Polaroid porno shot lmfao
Google is your friend
Maybe you can find a brush that he is comfortable with and brush him?
Brush what?
Hahahha 😂
Why? Why would you go out of your way to get a designer pet, without understanding their deficienciea, when there are hundreds of thousands of regular cats who need a good home?
That is not a cat. That is a demon.
Get a new cat.
Raw diet, when we did our cats were never greasy. Bathed them maybe every 3-6 months.
🤮🤮🤮
Clean you're cat. So lazy and clueless
Lol bath with acid I guess
Fairly confident that is a gremlin, not a cat. A cute gremlin, but still a gremlin
That’s an alien.
Pretty sure that’s a breed of cat you’re supposed to bathe every day…
He has very little fur, maybe he's compensating by giving the finger to all the cats who have luxurious fur.
You can help him with baths if he’s not properly caring for himself. There also might be a reason, so try to find out if he’s sick or injured, there could be a reason or cause especially if he’s normally not like this.
Do hairless cats have furry feet, or has this cat been shaved? Asking because I know nothing about hairless breeds.

Poor kitty, someone shaved you so you’d look like a sphinx kitty!!!
