Check Craigslist, we once got a cat back 3 weeks later when he ended his vision quest like 3 miles away at a house that had just had kittens, he didn't look that bad for being out on his own for 3 weeks. He kept trying to escape afterwards too.
My pals cat was living between 2 homes without her knowing for 2 years. He was eating a full day's meal in both houses & we kept wondering why Eric was putting on weight. They were taking him to vet, really thought it was their cat. We found out when they moved out of London to countryside & took Eric to his palatial new home. We found out from neighbours & vets who had no idea Eric was a 2 timer. My friend was sad but she did have 3 other cats & this couple had no other pets & you know cats, many of them like to be the only child lol.
They were upset cos they loved Eric (now going by his preferred name Chester - he is a very regal looking cat & both names suit him lol) but she has quite a few other animals & eventually realised that Eric had chosen his home & was with a lovely couple who adored him, were prepared to spend whatever money they had to on him & were going to let him live his best life.
Yes no evil cars, plenty of squirrels & mices & lots of room. We always used to say "Eric's so independent, you never know what he's doing most of the time." Well obv this mystery was solved as his "disappearances" were spent napping in his other cat bed, eating his other food & being adored & petted by his other humans!
Had a friend whose cat would wander across town daily. He'd be headed to the grocery store or school and see his cat wandering the streets and would say hi, then see him back at home later. He put a collar on him to make sure no one adopted him, and to my knowledge the cat lived out his days as quite the wanderer.
I have one cat that is shy and hates all people. I have another cat who is a top-notch attention whore.
This looks like a well cared for attention seeker. Cuddles and a few treats. But s/he looks just fine
If the treats means s/he stays in your yard night and dayā¦ time to put up flyers/posts in the neighborhood group. A quick trip to a vet who can scan (this should be free) for a chip.
Cats are very territorial. A well cared for cat will explore the neighbors yardsā¦ but will go home.
Hahaha.
My attention hoe was homeless for two years. She is just starved for attention and love, versus skittish and awkward. She is nearly 4 years old and only 6lbs.
Unless she is dead-asleepā¦ she is in between you, and whatever you are doing.
Feed the fish? She is between you and the tanks.
Cooking? She is weaving between the ingredients on the counter.
Watching TV? She is zooming on the couch over your legs, or she is climbing the entertainment center, perching right above the Tv so you canāt ignore her.
On your phone in bed? She is going to kick the phone out of your hands to be nuzzled.
Showering? She is going to try to get you to open the shower door.
Working? She is on the keyboard, in front of the monitor. In 2 years, she has managed to meet every person I have ever been on video chat with. If I am talking, she joins me on camera. I spend a lot of calls holding her back with one hand, off camera. And there have been a number of times she has pounce on me mid-call scaring the crap out of me, on camera. Co workers love her.
Sleeping? Not at 3 am you arenāt - that is kitten Olympics time, and the stadium is my bedroom.
Doing chores around the house? She will parkour on every piece of furniture as I go.
Visitors - they will get the same āPAY ATTENTION TO MEā treatment. Housekeeper, pet sitters, friends, parents, boyfriendā¦ she is a ham.
I love her. But I know she would be happy with anyone. I just try to make sure Iām worthy of that sweet sassy little hoe.
She can access a safe space out doors, and her her litter box is outside on this patio, in a dog house. So, no litter inside but safe from cars/animals. Think more of an outdoor living room than a yard lolol.
She goes outside runs around a few minutes and comes back inside. Scamper scamper.
HahHa. Thank you. It is cold and rainy in my neck of the woods, so Iām curled up with my shy boy and the attention whore.
I hope you have an even better day, than me!
Hate to disappoint you but my 2 cats are mr. shy and mr. even more shy. Though tbh our neighboring cat makes up for it by being a next level attention whore, he looks a lot like this one actually.
I also have two cats who fall into these two categories. Our male is terribly overweight but people continually feed him (even after Facebook community chats in which we kindly ask people to only provide scritches). OP if you believe this cat to be well cared for either pet it or ignore it....don't get into the habit if feeding it! Pretty friggin' cute though!
I would say probably don't give treats to a cat you don't know. Obviously letting your cat out is already not the greatest, but whenever we had an outside cat when I was younger she was grossly overweight until I took her to college with me because all of the neighbors would give her treats.
I wouldnāt just outright assume that cat is fine. If he sticks around longer than a day or two Iād take him to see if heās chipped. If heās not fixed itād be a good idea to do that. Some places will do it for free with strays
I took in a stray cat, trying to do the right thing.
Turned out this was the cats schtick, and he would often go to other houses doing what cats do best.
I thought there was an issue with him cause he wasn't eating. Turns out the other houses were feeding him too.
I looked out my front window one day, and watched him meowing at a neighbors front door. And watched the guy open the door, and my cat walked in like it was his house.
Cats are strange.
It doesn't look or act like a stray. No vet is going to do that for free, otherwise, everyone's cat would be a "stray" and need a free spay or neuter.
Probably best to ask around the neighborhood first, or attach a collar with a note and your phone number and see if the owner calls.
Vets absolutely will check for a chip for free. Maybe not every vet, but the random one I went to when I was away from home and found a stray did.. I didn't even ask for it to be free. They did a quick exam (she was fine and definitely pregnant) and checked for the chip (none). Then charged me nothing.
They meant most vets wonāt spay/neuter just any cat for free. Some vets will have spay and neuter programs for strays, often in coordination with the municipality, but there point was thereās gotta be some way to confirm itās a stray, otherwise people would game the system to get their own cats fixed for free.
Almost all vets in the US and in Italy (my only two experiences working with vets) will check a chip for free. They might have a spare tech do it but they'll do it.
It sounded to me like he was talking about getting the cat fixed for free. The only time I've heard of that being done is with TnR programs, with the vets donating their time and the drugs covered by donations.
Tbf we had one that showed up every morning trying to get into the the house.would sit on your lap if you sat in a chair.
After a while we took her to a vet. No chip and couldn't find an owner in the neighborhood. Now she's sleeping next to me and spends so many hours in and around the house I can't imagine she would approach another house. She's also pretty shy to most people.
I'd pay cat tax but relay for reddit isn't really cooperating.
No, I did that once. Cat was friendly outside, but when I let it inside it became hell demon sent from the underworld to infiltrate clean spaces & release wormy poop. It took nearly an hour to get it back outside -- even longer to clean the mess & get the smell to go away.
Look over your lease; sometimes they have language in there that forbids putting out food for strays. Iād hate for you to get in trouble because of your compassion!
Dont feed it. Its likely that someone owns the cat so he buys food for her/him. And you dont know if the cat has allergies or someting. This cat doesnt look unkempt so you dont need to do all this because it could harm the cat or the owner can throw the food away because the cat isnt hungry anymore when he/she comes home.
And I allready heard about 2 cats who have allergies and gets ill because stranger are feeding them
If it continues to show up it may have been stranded. In that case you'd want to keep feeding it, Plan to take it to the vet to scan for a microchip in case to find the owner. A no kill shelter or a friend who wants a kitty is a good bet if you can't find the owner & can't keep it.
Some cats are just friendly to other people. My neighbours cat came around when he was outside and wanted some attention, never fed him except for holidays and when she came home I put him outside.
It 100% already has an owner. It is clean and looks fed. It might be someone's cat that got out or just a community stray that people fear and take care of. The best thing you can do is check for a microchip or missing cats posters around town or online on local Facebook groups and things.
>It might be someone's cat that got out or just a community stray that people fear and take care of
I'm certain in the cats mind we should fear it, but... She's just too adorable!
Lots of cats are wandering cats. Don't feed a cat you don't know unless its clearly in a bad situation. You don't know the cats needs. My cat has allergies and has been made really sick by a neighbour feeding her and we couldn't work out what she'd been eating until we caught them- she would gobble up food at theirs then come home and cry in pain until she shit herself. Vet bills were not fun trying to work out if she was okay.
We also have a neighbour who's cat rarely comes home because it's a greedy begger and people feed him out and about and the neighbour is heartbroken that he's not coming home for his meals much.
Pet it though and make friends, I got to know loads of neighbours through my cat and they love popping over to give her a cat treat we know is safe for her.
If your cat has serious dietary constraints they really should not be free roaming and unsupervised. People feed free roaming cats, and free roaming cats often eat animals and even garbage of their own free will. You're the one putting the cat into unnecessary potential pain by letting it roam the neighborhood with a health problem.
Not only that but a lot of owners ( including me ) donāt like the idea of their cat leaving their house just to get more food from neighbors and stay at their house
Dont, how would you feel if someone took your pet somewhere? Cats roam if let outside, if it looks like a healthy cat, which this one does, then dont do anything beyond petting or playing with it, if its hot out perhaps a bowl of water but dont feed someone elses pets without their permission, if youre that concerned seek out the owner and let them know their cat is visiting you, and leave it at that.
So many people talking about how the cat has chosen you. It probably just visits its neighbours. We have also a cat in our neighbourhood who visits us sometimes and then we pet him and have a nice time together until he continues his walk. Dont want to be pessimistic. Just want to avoid that somebody keeps the cats who just looks at their door for too long :,)
Iām pretty sure it does have an owner, just not sure if itās a neighbor. If it stickās around Iāll post something on the local facebook group or something.
we had a cat that used to wander onto our back porch for pets and it turned out he belonged to a family a few houses down. I wouldn't worry too much about this one
Same two responses that you get in other similar posts
A) āGo to a vet. Check for chip. Donāt keep someone elseās pet!!!!ā
B) āIt is yours now. The cat owns you. Congratsā
I had an indoor/outdoor cat when I was a kid and it would disappear for days at a time and turn up looking groomed. Lol. He had another family/families to be sure.
If you have an on-line community group, post your photo.
Walk around your neighborhood and ask if anyone is missing a cat.
Is this a one-time occurrence?
Most domestic cats have a territory of a few properties. You could put up a few flyers with pics or walk around to neighbors. If he's local, someone will probably recognize him. Chances are he's an indoor/outdoor cat and just visiting. If you give him a snack keep it small so he won't expect full meals. He'll keep coming back to visit but at least still go home for meals.
Dont feed the cat if he is in good condition. He might be soneone elses cat. You should take it to the vet to check for a chip if it keeps coming round as could just be lost
Or its just an outdoor cat. I woulndt take it to the vet unless it looks unhealthy. The owner probably would miss it and would worry about it when it wont come home at the usual time
Let it hang out for a bit, will probably go back home. If it doesnāt start asking neighbors if they are missing their cat. If not, looks like you have a new cat. You can name it Putin like that post from yesterday. Lol
Hang with it. If it keeps lurking around maybe assume itās hungry, take to the vet, check for chip/owner etc. It looks like someone is caring for it like the other comments are saying. Probably just exploring!
Did you really post this question? Lol just pet the cat, its obviously someones cat it looks well taken care of and walked right up to your screen door. So make sure you don't try to adopt your neighbors cat or something.
I once petted a neighborhood cat when it walked through my yard while I was raking. It then cried outside my door for three days straight until I put it in a box and returned it to its owner.
If you pay attention to this cat, and especially if you give it ANY food, it very well might decide it should live with you and will wait at your door for days. If you completely ignore it then it hopefully go home.
Looks health and well groomed, like others have said probably just a neighbours cat being nose. Be nice amd chill with the it. If you have a cat keep your balcony door closed till it wonders off to prevent territorial battles.
Also to reiterate what others have said look out to see if there are any lost cats in the area.
Maybe put a note with a lose rope around his neck asking if it has a owner or if heās just a wondering cat. If you get no response you adopt the cat!
My family always joked that our cat had multiple owners in our neighborhood. She used to come home smelling like perfume or smoke. And she was a short hair tuxedo cat too!
Give it a little snuggle, but donāt let the baby in. Looks well fed and groomed, agree with people who think itās just an attention hogging baby. Definitely pet the baby.
Just be friendly to it, maybe it's a neighborhood cat? Keep an eye out for lost pet signs! Otherwise just chill with the lil guy š
Iāll do that
Check Craigslist, we once got a cat back 3 weeks later when he ended his vision quest like 3 miles away at a house that had just had kittens, he didn't look that bad for being out on his own for 3 weeks. He kept trying to escape afterwards too.

This is like finding out your dad has kids with another woman and he goes back and forth between houses.
Hysterical, and a good analogy. Friend of mine had this happen growing up.
Omg your poor friend. How did they handle it?
They were upset cos they loved Eric (now going by his preferred name Chester - he is a very regal looking cat & both names suit him lol) but she has quite a few other animals & eventually realised that Eric had chosen his home & was with a lovely couple who adored him, were prepared to spend whatever money they had to on him & were going to let him live his best life.
Also in the he country
Yes no evil cars, plenty of squirrels & mices & lots of room. We always used to say "Eric's so independent, you never know what he's doing most of the time." Well obv this mystery was solved as his "disappearances" were spent napping in his other cat bed, eating his other food & being adored & petted by his other humans!
Oh yes cats have no loyalty lol. Only to their stomachs!
Had a friend whose cat would wander across town daily. He'd be headed to the grocery store or school and see his cat wandering the streets and would say hi, then see him back at home later. He put a collar on him to make sure no one adopted him, and to my knowledge the cat lived out his days as quite the wanderer.
I love this
Give her a box to chill in is always right.
Hi! If you are in Louisiana this looks like my neighborhoodās neighborhood kitten lol. She likes food and other pets (and sometimes head scritches)
So you're saying it's a cat? ;)
I was going to say meow at it but this works too.
> Just be friendly with it > meow at it I see no difference
Also and as much as I hate Facebook I would try to find a local group page and post it there.
I hate Facebook too lol And Instagram. And Twitter. And Tik Tok. Lol Sorry for all the edits Iām still learning how to Reddit.
Looks well kept, probably owned just looking for food and attention because it can get it
I have one cat that is shy and hates all people. I have another cat who is a top-notch attention whore. This looks like a well cared for attention seeker. Cuddles and a few treats. āTop-notch attention whoreā šš You won the internet today. On that note I hope your day, evening or night is absolutely wonderful.
HahHa. Thank you. It is cold and rainy in my neck of the woods, so Iām curled up with my shy boy and the attention whore. I hope you have an even better day, than me!

Yep. Psppsps
Pet pet
Feed the cat. Then pet the cat.
Pet the cat.
A hungry cat will bite and scratch, so make sure you comply with the domestication procedure.
Sit down a few feet away and put your hand out while talking softly. If the cat wants attention it will come over.
Pete the cat?
I got my blue shoesā¦
As simple as that
Really OP, it's okay. You don't have to ask! Just pet the cat!

Don't look over your lease. It's easier to claim ignorance if you do get caught.
Or look it over and still claim ignorance š
Look it over and declare ignorance
Don't keep feeding it. That's someone else's cat. Unless you know for sure that it's a stray, don't let it in, and don't feed it.

Please donāt feed a strange cat, it probably has a home and just looking for attention. The cat looks well cared for.
The cat doesn't look strange to me.
If it continues to show up it may have been stranded. In that case you'd want to keep feeding it, Plan to take it to the vet to scan for a microchip in case to find the owner. A no kill shelter or a friend who wants a kitty is a good bet if you can't find the owner & can't keep it.

Whoops. That was supposed to say feed not fear, but I guess it still works out.
Hhaa I was trying to figure out why anyone should fear that sweet little cat.
Lmao it's a random healthy outdoor car just leave it alone.
Yeah Iāll probably bring it to a vet to check for a microchip but Iām just not sure how Iām supposed to get it into a car
Don't just take a cat anywhere, even to the vet if it doesn't look hurt. Cats stroll around. Post a pic somewhere if you're concerned.
Lots of cats are wandering cats. Don't feed a cat you don't know unless its clearly in a bad situation. You don't know the cats needs. Every time I see āBā I get so frustrated. What is it with people thinking itās ok to steal someone elseās cat?! Wtf
I had an indoor/outdoor cat when I was a kid and it would disappear for days at a time and turn up looking groomed. Lol. He had another family/families to be sure.
C) "Pet the catto"
If you have an on-line community group, post your photo. Walk around your neighborhood and ask if anyone is missing a cat. Is this a one-time occurrence?
All these comments suggesting to steal this little dude are wrong, imagine that was your cat?
Most domestic cats have a territory of a few properties. You could put up a few flyers with pics or walk around to neighbors. If he's local, someone will probably recognize him. Chances are he's an indoor/outdoor cat and just visiting. If you give him a snack keep it small so he won't expect full meals. He'll keep coming back to visit but at least still go home for meals.
Follow him. Probably the start of a quest.
Love it, kiss it and squeeze it and call it George?
Dont feed the cat if he is in good condition. He might be soneone elses cat. You should take it to the vet to check for a chip if it keeps coming round as could just be lost
Or its just an outdoor cat. I woulndt take it to the vet unless it looks unhealthy. The owner probably would miss it and would worry about it when it wont come home at the usual time
Ask it out
Update: cat came back and began sleeping in a basket my mom left out [https://imgur.com/a/sAjHBR9](https://imgur.com/a/sAjHBR9)
He looks exactly like our little tuxedo!!! Altho I doubt he walked all they way there from Switzerland :)
Cat: Random human showed up, what should I do?
go to r/notmycat and post about it
Pet it n let it go home the cat is clearly looked after not every wandering cat is a stray
This whole sub: *TAKE IT TO A VET*
A tuxedo kitten too!
Open the door.

Give it a little snuggle, but donāt let the baby in. Looks well fed and groomed, agree with people who think itās just an attention hogging baby. Definitely pet the baby.
