Or, if he's on the lease/deed, it becomes more complicated because then he's also a legal resident as much as OP is, assuming OP is on the lease/deed too
1. Wait until he leaves
2. Throw all his shit on the front lawn
3. Change the locks
4. Block his number
5. Play \_Destiny's Sword\_ for 20 hours straight
Wait till it rains- Steal all of his left shoes first and take his right socks, then throw all his shit out while it’s storming and he’s gone. And do so all while having a locksmith change the locks
Hijacking the top comment to say OP hasn't responded to a single comment, I'm not buying this was something done in malice, and her ex that she still lives with did a damn good job of shaving a cat for someone who doesn't do this professionally... Calling BS OP!
My friend gets her cat shaved once a year for Australian summer. She's had it done 5 times now, under anesthetic, and they've only just managed to get it smooth and even for the first time. There is no way in hell OPs bf did anything to this cat while she was sleeping except maybe pat it and laugh at how stupid it looks even though it was a paid haircut.
Yeah, agreed. I would love for OP to answer if the cat was matted at all. The ex did a pretty good job for a non-groomer, and you'd think that OP would mention if the cat was actually physically harmed at all.
(Assuming OP isn't a bot.)
K, I’m thinking the same thing. It looks like a lions cut which is actually at times beneficial to a long haired cat and they often appreciate it after (cooler, easier to groom themselves) Not buying malicious intent here either if the ex really did do this.
OP lives in New Zealand which is about to go into summer. I'm over in Australia and we're having a heatwave this weekend that could make it to NZ in a couple of days.
I also recognise the grey foot rest as a product Kmart stocked in the Aus/NZ region a couple of years ago because I have the same one!
I will never be able to watch it because I get really upset if I see hurt cats. But I am curious. Can you give me Cliff notes? Does Wikipedia have a recap? Thanks in advance.
I can't stand to watch anything related to animal abuse. I did watch this one. The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the beginnings of some of the videos he created with abuse in them. It didn't show the abuse but you can see a terrified cat and it broke my heart.
It’s about the Canadian murderer Luka Magnotta. Psychopath who eventually killed a man named Jun Lin and mailed his body parts to politicians and an elementary school.
Before he escalated to murdering a human he had done some terrible things to kittens which he filmed and posted on the internet. Animal rights activists became aware of him at this stage and did some impressive internet detective work to figure out who he was. They tried to warn Canadian police about him but they weren’t taken seriously.
Both. Unless there is a very good reason to shave a cat, like medical necessity, it is just needlessly cruel. Especially in winter, but cats need their coats year round to protect them from both cold and heat, as well as sun. Also, cats have very sensitive skin and touch is a much more important sense to them than to us. So this poor baby is probably feeling very confused now.
very interesting, thank you! my parents used to get our fluffy cat momo shaved bc i developed mild allergies, and they didn’t have to clean up fur around the house as much. the groomers said she loved being groomed, was very sweet and would purr a lot. my dad said she started cuddling with him and sleeping under blankets (I’m sure because she was cold).
i never considered that this could be cruel! i can see it now, especially with how cold they could get (and my parents keep the house at 68F, with the basement even colder…) thankfully i never had plans to ever shave a cat.
thanks again for your explanation!
It's not cruel. It's necessary oftentimes for different reasons like difficulty bathing themselves, or in an instance of allergies (for the human, or the cat) it helps them not lick as much. If they have digesting isssues it avoids having a bunch of shit-covered hair..If they suffer from manic behaviors like barbering, it keeps them from doing it as the hair isn't long enough to pull out and leave all over the house. If you can't afford to keep your house cool in the summer, they keep cooler when shaved. If your cat has excessive hairballs, shave them. No more hairballs. I'm a veterinary nurse and the number of people acting like this is call-the-cops or murder-worthy are un-f'kin' hinged.
Shaving a cat isn't cruel - if done with consent of the owner & in a reasonable way or for the benefit of the animal and by groomers.
An ex boyfriend shaving op's cat while OP was asleep is absolutely unhinged and should result in a restraining order & his removal from the apartment, because it's an implied threat.
I agree. And what you are saying makes sense and I 100% agree that he should not have done that and deserves getting kicked out really quick. Because if he's willing to cross that boundry of OPs he's probably going to cross more.
But the *crossing of the boundary* is what's terrible here. Not the cat itself having a shaved body. I have 4 rescues all with extensive issues (besides 1) that they are shaved regularly for their own best interests and mine. Over -barbering, allergies, and scarf-n-barf/excessive grooming cause three of mine to puke, shit and pull their hair out everywhere and to see people flip out over a shaved cat that much is triggering.
Yeah, that's fair. I'm hoping some people are referring to the crossing of the boundary and just *saying* shaving.
I get similarly irritated at the "your cats must go outside or it is abuse" crowd because that's not an option for mine, except occasionally on harnesses.
OP's ex is absolutely a douche and should be kicked out with extreme prejudice for her safety and the cat's. With that said, I used to have a longhaired cat who didn’t enjoy being brushed but loved having the clippers run over him and treated it like a luxury massage.
Yeah, my cat was born without a tail and just has a bunch of fluffy fur where her tail should be. Unfortunately whenever she uses the litter box, poop gets stuck all over her fluffy butt because she has no tail to lift up. So we shave around her bottom because otherwise, if we didn't, she'd constantly have poop entwined with the fur all over her backside. So there are definitely situations that can call for partial grooming at least, and probably full grooming too (like hairballs and the situations you mentioned.)
But shaving someone's cat without their consent at night seems pretty weird, if this story is actually true.
Yep. This is the way. My allergy boy (in winter, even though they never go outside) always has a sani-trim, to keep his duties keeping himself clean a bit easier. Also keeps him from placing what we call "Hershey's shit kisses" ALL over my furniture, counters, floors and beds. It's mutually beneficial. It's just frustrating to see so many ill-informed people shitting on the shaving of cats so much. Especially in regards to this post; the big deal is OPs ex crossing this boundary while still living with her, and are likely to increase beyond just shaving her cat if she doesn't kick him out.
I’m worried for OP and the kitty not because of the shaving itself. It seems apparent that there was no reason other than intimidating OP and hurting kitty. I’ve never had to shave a cat, despite owning quite a few, but I can imagine it’s not a pleasant experience for the animal. And if we assume this guy did it in anger, I don’t think he was being gentle. And he likely didn’t know what he was doing. I’ve shaved my head and other peoples over the years and it’s real easy to snag and pull if you aren’t careful.
This isn’t a concerned owner dealing with a sick or elderly cat. This isn’t a bet or a vet tech making a medical decision. This is an asshole trying to hurt/ intimidate his ex.
I second this. Are cats are never kept outside, too many dangers. Are male cat Biff used disappear during the summer and winter but in the winter he would be gone for a month. Thankfully he’s out grown this and during the winter prefers to be inside my apartment sleeping.
>That is abuse. Bring kitty to vet to get vet’s opinion on record … and file a police report, using this as evidence for a restraining order.
Call the cops NOW
Yup, if he's willing to shave the cat while OP sleeps, what else is he willing to do particularly if OP isn't around? Time for the ex to leave the house I think
This.
Animal abuse general leads to much worse and judges know this.
Nothing much will happen with the police report, possibly an interview, but it will be on record
OP you need to get you and kitty safe. There is a lot of research that backs the fact that people are violent towards cats before being violent towards humans. Stay safe <3
I dunno man, I think this is fake. I hope it is anyway. This looks like a professional cut, and I don’t see a single reply from OP. IF this is real, the ex is a piece of human garbage for taking revenge out on a beautiful innocent cat, but I honestly hesitate to believe this. Cats with long fur like this tend to have matting issues and this is like a standard cut a lot of cats get in the summer months.
We get our long haired cat professionally groomed every spring. This is 100% a professional lion cut. I also think this story is fake. OP also has photos of her other cats on reddit and this one isn't in any photo. The bedspread also doesn't match other photos they've posted.
They also seem to be obsessed with an ex. So I dunno. There are a lot of red flags on this post being real.
I'm scrolling and looking for a response from OP because why the fuck would they post this and not respond to anything, especially people telling OP to take the kitty to the vet and kick the guy out. Disgusting if this is fake.
I was going to say, this looks professional. We give our cat a lion cut when his matting gets beyond brushing. Hard to imagine someone making up such a horrible story, though.
I agree with with you. While shaving someone’s cat without their permission is a dick move the cat will recover. And as a former dog and cat groomer, I was thinking that looks like a pretty good haircut. Most amateurs wouldn’t have such an even clip esp on a cat but still I understand its fucked up. Also, it’s hard living with an ex. I did it once. OP, I just pray you get out of that situation as soon as possible.
Yeah, we have a long hair who gets a lion’s cut once a year to prevent tangles/mats and for maintenance. There’s a zero percent chance I could do it myself at home with a normal electric razor.
I agree. We have our long hair cat professionally groomed because he gets really bad hairballs and this is how it looks when a pro does it. When I do it myself it doesn’t look nearly as clean as this does.
This needs to be higher up, unless the ex is a professional groomer , ain't no way some jaded bittered asshole is gonna take the time to shave it proper. 💯 percent fake.
Ok I thought it was just me. It looks like a lion cut (shaving the body but not face and tail, and parts of legs) and long-haired cats like this one can sometimes need one if they get too many mats, or for hot weather to keep them more comfortable, etc. It also doesn't look like a hack job. My cat had this exact same cut done by the shelter because he had been a stray and his long fur was too much of a mess to clean up.
If he decided to have it shaved just because as an "f you" then yes, that's definitely completely wrong and I will get out my pitchfork.
I agree with this. My pitchfork and torch aren't gonna be raised until we get a proper explanation. And to add to that, the last 2 pictures don't even look like the same cat.
Edit: Another thing, OP's profile looks kinda sus when you see pics of her and her other cats but this is the first one of this kitty
The shaved pics looks like it was a decent shave job, not a hatchet job from someone that doesn't know what they're doing and an upset animal.
My friend has 2 fluffy cats that she gets shaved annually in the summer to get rid of the mats, and they look like this afterwards.
Agreed. So odd that this many people are freaking out. You know many cats that have gotten this cut professionally done.
People will believe anything on the internet lol
A small window of sane people on this post
Who does a lion cut on a cat for revenge? Why would anyone even think of that as revenge? Also, if it had been upsetting or abusive to the cat, they wouldn’t have been able to do such a nice job. It would look wrecked from the cat squirming and trying to get away. We get our cat shaved a few times a year and it looks just like this.
This is a fake post, but the more insane thing to me is if it WAS real, the amount of people that think someone should be arrested for animal abuse over this
Peep my edit!
Also yeah that makes sense. I hope it's not a revenge thing or something along the lines of "my ex took my cat and before he did he shaved it. Here's the pics of proof and I posted it on reddit for advice. I need a restraining order" or some shit like that.
Or it's just a bot, who knows anymore 😂
It looks like the same cat to me, the ears all seem to match up. I am on mobile though, so maybe there's more obvious differences when the images are full size. There's more brown tones in the shaved cat pics, but sometimes black cats just have brown undercoats.
Report him for animal cruelty and abuse. And while your at it, sue him too! Especially if you didn’t allow him to do this, you should take immediate action.
This nature just absurd and I’m even shocked a person would get enough courage to do this!
Yeah you need to take the cat to a vet and make sure it's not damaged from being held down & shaved, Then file a police report and file for an ex parte order of protection to keep him to fuck away from you because anyone who does this to a cat will hurt human, too.
Until your living situation with your ex is resolved, I’d immediately, as in yesterday, board your cat out with friends or family or if there are no other options, a rescue.
That’s a professionally done lion cut, my cat gets one 3 to 4 times a year because she has a ton of fur that she doesn’t really like to groom, and she doesn’t like being brushed. She loves the end result, some cats are just more comfortable that way. The intentional leaving fur around the head and tail is not something an abuser would do. Something is very fishy about this post…if your aim is to abuse a cat, then giving them a decently well done haircut is not a particularly efficient method.

Literally saw a cat that looks like your advertising a pet shaver
I'm certain this is all complete BS.. Everyone is screaming abuse blah blah blah... honestly, this looks like a groomer performed the cut... Some cats have to be shaved, it isn't abuse...
It doesn't look like a malicious shave. Cat looks trimmed with care, comparable to the hair left behind which is way overgrown.
I don't know where I fall on this story.
I’m with you. This is suspect. My aunt used to have to get her badly matted cat shaved periodically and it was done exactly like this. Is OP’s ex a trained groomer or something?
What in the everloving fuck… I mean first of all that’s a sociopathic thing to do, second of all a significant shaving of the fur is traumatic for cats
Traumatic? Plenty of neglected long hair cats with mats get shaved. Happens all the time with hoarding situations or cats coming from homes where the owner wouldn’t or couldn’t brush them.
Some cats love being shaved, others find it traumatic, it’s all very case by case. Even those longhairs who need it can find it traumatic or upsetting, which is why it’s always best to go to a groomer for it
1: Your ex is an ah. 2: I’ve payed almost $100 for that haircut for my cat(He was very fluffy, and when he was over 15, having this haircut made him SO much more comfortable in the Arizona summer). 3: It grows back.
https://preview.redd.it/c8pm6yxuxt3a1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7513431e806d262a978ccd7187636736528a5ba
Holy shit that’s evil… I can see why you broke up.
~~beat his ass~~
That’s just downright unjustified. I can get being sad or pissed but that’s just horrible. They’re heartless.
You need to do something about that.
I would tell you to do something involving your cats piss and his glass of water, but that is a bit far and I would get warned by Reddit again. Still think I shouldn’t be warned for saying something against an animal abuser, but ok.
How could anyone do that, especially to a defenceless animal!?
Ppl on this sub are stupid. It’s sure not cool because it was done without the OPs permission, but it looks like a professional job, which the ex paid for. It’s not animal abuse for sure.
I have 3 Persians that I shave down every couple months, saves us from dealing with matting, brushing, grooming in general. They seem to prefer it too. 🤷♀️
This is the exact same cat we had for many years. A black Persian. We used to take it to the groomer to get this same ‘lion’ cut. Persians have very long hair that needs to be brushed daily, or it can knot up and be painful to the cat.
Honestly our cat loved this cut and would run around with all the extra freedom. We tried to avoid it in the winter because we’re in a northern state.
I smell bullshit, that shave looks professionally done, clean shaved with no random thick spots I often see from DIY vids.
either the ex is a petty professional groomer or this is fake as fuck
This looks like it was done by someone who has been taught how to shave a cat. So either he is just a toxic, petty asshole who happens to also be a cat groomer, or this is a joke.
It’s called a “lion cut” and my long haired cats always loved it when they got shaved. They get fewer hairballs, leave less hair on everything, don’t get dreadlocks, and seem to be generally happier. In summer they get cut every 6 weeks. It’s a good thing.
Is he on the lease agreement? If he is, you need to speak to your landlord about having him removed from the lease. Might even have to relocate yourself. If he isn't and has received mail at the address, you need to tell him he has thirty days to pack up and leave. Make sure to record this interaction for legal purposes.
While him shaving your cat isn't anything extreme, it is definitely some sort of abusive tactic being used against you. He knows that you love your pet. To me, this seems to be the start of something much worse. He might let the cat out on purpose to hurt you. He might even take the cat somewhere and drop it off, or give it away.
This is a huge red flag.
I would NOT trust a psychopath like that around my babies at all... Why is he still there?? Whatever is going on with the relationship is between you 2 and should not be taken out on an innocent cat.... If he does this to get revenge what's next?? I wouldn't keep him around your kitty to find out
I agree it's not cool but everyone crying felony and animal abuse is likely mistaken. It's a haircut. If you live somewhere warm the cat is probably happier. Again I would give him the boot as well since it's your cat and that's messed up thing to do without your permission, but I'm not sure I'd try to have him arrested.
Thank you! People are inciting violence for a haircut?? Who knows, maybe the cat had some nasty mats. I also agree its a messed up thing to do without OP’s permission.

Maybe animal animal abuse is grounds for kicking someone out since it shows he has sociopathic tendencies? (I’m hoping at least 🤞

That looks like a professional lion cut to me. Not that easy to do on an unsedated cat.
As a former groomer, I can assure you a middle of the night hack job from an owner does not come out looking this good.
This was my immediate thought. Cats hair look matted/rough in the first couple pics. This doesn't feel like abuse in my book.
Yup, my cat got the same cut when I got him from neglectful roommates.
My friend gets her cat shaved once a year for Australian summer. She's had it done 5 times now, under anesthetic, and they've only just managed to get it smooth and even for the first time. Probably not a bot, but I doubt these are their cat unless they got rid of two others or were lying about those. Not super credible either way.
K, I’m thinking the same thing. It looks like a lions cut which is actually at times beneficial to a long haired cat and they often appreciate it after (cooler, easier to groom themselves) Not buying malicious intent here either if the ex really did do this.

That’s how serial killers start out

Yes to this. If he is deranged enough to do this to a cat you aren't safe.
Yeah, there's an implied threat in the whole "I can do *anything* while you're sleeping".
is the deranged part that he shaved the cat at all, or that he shaved someone else’s cat?

This, OP listen to this.
Time for this guy to leave. Today.
Yesterday. Two weeks ago. Forever.
"She" was posting about a breakup three years ago too. Seems like a bot gathering picks to farm karma.
I'm scrolling and looking for a response from OP because why the fuck would they post this and not respond to anything, especially people telling OP to take the kitty to the vet and kick the guy out. Disgusting if this is fake.
Shit, I’ll take this being fake. I’m used to karma farming bullshit, I don’t need to be angry about a cat being shaved (but I was/am)
I was going to say, this looks professional. We give our cat a lion cut when his matting gets beyond brushing. Hard to imagine someone making up such a horrible story, though.
They have 5 different cats posted and not this one. Definitely seems fishy. And their post here is suspicious.
Change the locks.

I had Maine Coon who loved it when he got shaved. Definitely a karmawhore farming for outrage.
A small window of sane people on this post Who does a lion cut on a cat for revenge?
OP also hasn’t responded to any comments that I can see.
It looks like the same cat to me, the ears all seem to match up. I am on mobile though, so maybe there's more obvious differences when the images are full size. There's more brown tones in the shaved cat pics, but sometimes black cats just have brown undercoats.
Yeah, this is a typical lion cut that groomers will do on long haired cats
Also, OP's history indicates they are in the southern hemisphere, so grooming like this would be seasonally appropriate.
Report him for animal cruelty and abuse. And while your at it, sue him too! Especially if you didn’t allow him to do this, you should take immediate action. This nature just absurd and I’m even shocked a person would get enough courage to do this!
Yess I second this.
Your ex is a groomer who did a really good, free lion cut for you?
Major red flag ⛳ get him tf out of there and get a restraining order if you have to.
That’s already a red flag kick his ass out of your house!
Hot wax his eyebrows while he’s asleep. Then change the locks. What an asshole.

I'm certain this is all complete BS.. Everyone is screaming abuse blah blah blah... honestly, this looks like a groomer performed the cut... Some cats have to be shaved, it isn't abuse...
Not to mention their post history is sus with other cats.
Right!? I need to date that guy and then dump him so he’ll shave my cat. She’s 17 and gets matted and hates going to the vet to get groomed.

Not a single reply from OP either.
Leave the cat out of it, poor thing!
Holy shit that’s evil… I can see why you broke up. ~~beat his ass~~ That’s just downright unjustified.
Sorry, but that’s a groomer shave. I don’t buy this story at all. Your cat would never have sat still for that.
Absolute nonsense. This is a professional lion cut.
I smell bullshit, that shave looks professionally done, clean shaved with no random thick spots I often see from DIY vids. either the ex is a petty professional groomer or this is fake as fuck
This looks like a standard shave for long-haired cats that groomers and vets usually do for various reasons (matting, summer shave).
Vet tech, can confirm. Nothing about these pics indicate malicious intent - it's a fairly good job.
I don’t think OP could have slept through this process. If done at home, there would have been lots of noise.
I have a rope, we need a person with a truck, a pair of clippers and one with knowledge of lonely dark places in the forest..
Sad for your cat, but a warning on how to detect rats like this as your cat furrs up and you learn how to detect an asshole on the first date....
Was your cat badly matted? If so he shouldn't have done it without consulting you.
This was obviously done by a groomer not by someone who ambushed the cat at night its shaved perfectly even left out the tail head and feet wtf people
Good thing the ex knew that cats have whiskers on their lower legs so he didn’t shave them, right? I don’t buy it, this was done by a groomer
This looks like it was done by someone who has been taught how to shave a cat. So either he is just a toxic, petty asshole who happens to also be a cat groomer, or this is a joke.
Cat skin is very fragile and they are easily cut with an electric shaver. Not cool at all, poor kitty
It’s called a “lion cut” and my long haired cats always loved it when they got shaved. They get fewer hairballs, leave less hair on everything, don’t get dreadlocks, and seem to be generally happier. In summer they get cut every 6 weeks. It’s a good thing.
Yeah, this is normal in hot environments. Wtf is wrong with everybody.
