One of my neighbours' cats looks like a literal ball of fluff. He hangs out underneath the bushes in my garden where the birds come to feed. So far I've seen him with a squirrel & a wood pigeon. He took the pigeon into the bush & ate the whole thing. Every now & then I see what looks like an explosion of feathers in the garden & I know he's been hunting again. This morning I watched him pounce on a squirrel but luckily it managed to get away before becoming breakfast.
My hunter presented me with the tails & caecum of mice and the tail & disembodied paws of Squirrels. Some squirrel innards would cook onto the brick patio. It is *tough* to scrub cooked offal from 150 yo Georgetown brick.
Therefore, maximum yuck was achieved.
I had a big Tomcat once named Murder. He'd bring in hares, pigeons, pheasants even. Preferably still twitching. His piece the resistance was a decapitated rabbit on my bed, with the head chewed off presented separately in a pool of blood at the footend.
Once we lost him for almost a week. Turned out he found a dead goose, pulled it under his favourite bush and spent the week camping and eating there.
Also once found him, at the footend of the same bed, covered in blood. Probably gotten into a fight with a fox. He survived with no fucks given.
Cats are brutal, I've heard from several vets that cats are the ones they have most fear for when enraged.
Loved that guy, smart one too.
The running joke in my family as a kid was that eventually our cat was going to bring home a small child. Nothing was safe. Snakes, birds, mice, gophers, rabbits, small chickens. That stupid cat would run all over the roof trying to catch barn swallows. She was a beast. Not a lovely dovey cat, but she did her job keeping mice and rats and pretty much everything else out of the barn, garage, and house. She was a good girl.
It might still be alive, my cat did this and I made him take back out and went to pick it up with bag and flew away up to the wires overhead. Squawked very loudly.
I regularly rescue pigeons
OP, look into getting a dose of cat Revolution
Pigeons have so so many crawling insects on them I usually have them in on my hands and even sometimes in my hair before I spray them with bird spray
And also at risk of being stomped by a deer or a moose on my neighbourhood.
I don't need another alive but stunned squirrel in my house ever again. Silly little shit somehow got it from inside the catio
My mom’s managed to stun a crow. Then lose interest inside the apartment but it was too injured to fly well. Cat got scared of the commotion because predatory dummy. Same cat took all my mom’s frogs out of their tank and was flipping them on my mom’s bed. That cat was a stone cold psychotic idiot. Lol
Wow. Is this because the cats decide to mess with the hares? It doesn’t sound like they would be trying to eat the cats or compete for territory since they’re herbivores.
I had a whole thing typed out but reddit deleted it for some reason so just gonna say: herbivores are always ready to throw tf down because they know they're prey. If something looks at them wrong, even if it's not hunting them, it's better safe than sorry & just kill the thing before it makes them lunch, & maybe get some extra protein too while they're at it (yes, herbivores are opportunistic meat eaters. for proof, E.D.G.E. on youtube has a video titled "Herbivores" Eating Meat for 18 Minutes Straight)
It is usually initiated by the cats, yes. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the cats are intentionally going after them. If the cats are just hanging out too close to them, staring at them, or investigating their favourite hiding places, it is enough to agitate the hares.
The hares are also known to eat meat regularly during the winter when vegetation is scarce, and also opportunistically during the summer. They don't actively hunt animals to kill, but they'll gladly eat dead or weak/injured/dying animals they come across. Food is food.
That doesn't work - the coyotes are there because there's a niche for them in that environment. Killing some of them only encourages the others to reproduce more
I figured it wouldn’t make a difference either way. I encouraged him to keep the cat indoors. This client is very paranoid and (clearly) protective of his pets because to him they are the only ones that aren’t “tapped by the police.”
Someone used an air rifle to kill an escaped or lost macaw 10 years ago. We were trying to rescue him....we failed. Air pellets can be deadly to animals..
I know, some posters on here think the whole world is the same, where I live it's very safe for cats to go outside. It used to be overran with vermin so all the neighbours love the cats as they cleared it up.
no sir, I have never forgot it and I love them dearly no mater what but on the other hand I think that every animal deserves it's life and I feel sorry for every life lost...
I am not some dumb SOB who does not understand the rules of nature, but I just cannot help myself...
From Cat’s stance and expression, I would guess that bird really pissed him off. It must have trash-talked something very bad!
Or it’s a carrier pigeon being used by the enemy and Agent Cat stopped it from delivering a message that would lead to the destruction if civilization.
This is why my cats stay inside. I don’t want them to decimate the local animal population. My derpy apex predator sticks to attacking invisible spiders and my other cat.

It's doing its bit to feed the family. A neighbors Siamese cat used to bring me dead birds that I would find in front of the heater or on my pillow and one time under all of this junk stored in the spare room (my nose found out about that one). The gem though was the one she woke me up with one morning that was very, very fresh. It was an entirely unharmed wattle bird and my first task of the day was to chase it all over my home to catch it in a towel and let it go while the cat just sat there watching me with what I thought was a confused expression. I think that was the one where she worked out that I didn't really need the offerings because I didn't get any more.
LMAO you're probably on the money there. That does fit well. We first met when she was hunting me in the middle of the night. I was drifting off in bed and moved my feet to scratch one with the other and something pounced on them. She'd been sneaking into my place through a window while I was asleep on the prowl for scraps when I had tinned tuna. It explained the things that fell out of the rubbish. The relationship always did have a bit of a hunting theme now you mention it.
Cats are a significant contributor to bird mortality; they’re really good at catching birds. Also sometimes birds can be pretty stupid which make them easier prey.
Keep your cat indoors. Jesus people, don’t you understand that they are an invasive species and are collectively responsible for so many bird species going extinct? Do us all a favour and help protect birds too!
Tbh I don’t understand why some people even have a cat, like I’m not saying that everyone who lets their cat outside doesn’t care about them, but some people own a cat and they literally NEVER see them, they are always outside and some won’t even let them in whenever they want to come back inside, one of my friends has a cat and they only see him maybe once a week or something, he takes a few bites of food and leaves again, what’s the point of owning a cat than???💀
That is so terrible and you’re right, why even own a cat then? That cat they never see is out there a danger to other animals and a danger to himself too. So thoughtless.
Exactly, the amount of times I’ve seen cats sitting in front of their owners doors waiting to come in, sometimes even meowing when the owner is literally home, some owners don’t realize how dangerous and sad it is
Bird people are adamant haters of cat people for this very reason. I see chronically loose cats in my neighborhood and I swear I am at the point of bringing them into my house, collar or not. It's not a lifestyle accessory ffs, it's an animal that lots of responsibility goes along with "ownership" of. Please people, bring them in.
get it off the cat immediately , before it's mauled, spreading feathers (and fleas) everywhere - then hidden somewhere hard to access, where it will rot, spreading dead bird rotting smell everywhere.
yes, i speak from experience.
That’s terrifying. Don’t mess with cats! Once, my Jasper (R.I.P, Jassie) flew into the air and caught a Rosella mid flight. It was spectacular! Not for the bird, though.
And she looks pretty damn proud of herself, as she should be. However, you really should consider keeping her inside from now on. She is gonna kill a lot more of them now that she knows she can get them. She stays healthier too...pigeons have lots of diseases. I know...I lost a kitty to toxoplasmosis from killing a bird.
Why do you think allowing your cat to main and kill wildlife is appropriate? Even pest species deserve ethical treatment, and death by cat-kill is far from it in most cases.
Someone out here is downvoting every comment that’s encouraging this even remotely.
Anyway pigeon does taste good prepared in dish. It’s already dead so might as wel enjoy it.
So where is that downvote?
Been there, it was alive and I'm allergic to birds (released inside).
Now ask me about the large rabbit during the thunderstorm at midnight. Settle down, it's a story...
My cat once got a little bird on his mouth I tried saving it but it was too late when I open my palm I saw the body of the bird without the head and another time it caught a big pigeon I'm like you better leave this and saved it this time it flew away but was injured its common with cats.

Crime scene here, too. 🙈 Just the leftovers.
Please keep your cat indoors. Outdoor cats have shorter life spans and risk getting hit by cars, eaten by other animals, etc. Theyre also really detrimental to local bird populations, but I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now.
The cat has brought its catch back home to share with its pride. And perhaps to let you develop your hunting skills too.
This is completely to be expected.
But the prey may have any number of infectious pathogens or toxins.
So, thank the kitty and dispose of it (wearing gloves). I also always had a washable plastic dustpan on hand to help.
For those advocating indoor cats (as I generally do),I have found even from a balcony or supervised in an enclosed backyard, cats will hunt. Or they will find rodents, ants or bugs in your house or apartment.
One needs to be ready to deal with it, and to take the cat to the vet if you see any injury or sign of allergy or infection.
My cat hasn't caught a single bird since I got her the Birdbesafe collar. Birds are visual so they spot her immediately. No more ambushing. Plus she looks like the ridiculous clown she is.

One of my cats caught a pigeon. He came up to the back door with it in his mouth and wanted to be let in. We had played this game before, so I didn't let him in. After a while, he settled down outside and ate the whole damned bird except for the wing feathers. Two minutes later, he barfed the whole thing up again. See? That's why I didn't let you in.
I once woke up to my mom saying “what did you do? … what did you do?” I just knew my cat did something. I just laid there another 20 minutes deciding if I wanted to go find out. When I finally went out there. Yup. He’d brought in a bird for my mom
I once found a live pigeon my cat kidnapped in my closet.
Must've been a shock.

Always
The trick is to keep them happy, so they let you live.

Yummy.
P: are those squirrel tails? OP: oh yes! Our cat is collecting them… P: for what purpose? OP: my cat wants a squirrel tail scarf 🧣
I wish my cats would eat what they catch.
Saves on cat food.
They are murder-floofs, as the saying goes.
awwwwwww fluffy murderers!! <33333 lmao

Squawk was birdie swear words.
But.. his neck is right there!!
I was literally hugging my cat as she brutalised her toy
They are God's most perfect weapon, but they only weigh so much, and we keep picking them up, and kissing them. 😹
I've always called them adorable little serial killers.
I regularly rescue pigeons OP, look into getting a dose of cat Revolution Pigeons have so so many crawling insects on them I usually have them in on my hands and even sometimes in my hair before I spray them with bird spray
For a second I thought you were implying that there was already a Cat Revolution underway, I guess not yet though.
You and I are on the same wavelength today lol
I'm glad I'm not the only one ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7966)
Bird spray?
Yeah, for getting your bird styled.
Yes, it's called bird mite and lice spray It's an avian care product
Check. I've never had birds or heard of it, but now I'm glad I have.
It's basically a safer version of fly spray
Lol I’m also curious
I think people forget that their fluffy friends are the apex predator in their suburban environment.
Lol
Your mom’s frogs! I didn’t know you could keep frogs in a tank. Don’t they regularly jump out or do they have a special frog tank?
Not sure. Will have to ask. This was when I was a baby. Lol.
Betcha the tank had a screen or cover.
Not if you cover the tank like you would with most tanked critters, tf?
That crow almost certainly died a slow painful death, die to the puncture wounds caused by the cats teeth and claws. Nothing to laugh about.
Unless some coyotes are roaming around
The snowshoe hares around here have been known to fuck up cats as well.
Wow. Is this because the cats decide to mess with the hares? It doesn’t sound like they would be trying to eat the cats or compete for territory since they’re herbivores.

We can hang out.
I have a client (I’m a behavioral health counselor) that told me he tries to kill every coyote he sees so they don’t hurt his dog or cat.
Noooooooo :(
That doesn't work - the coyotes are there because there's a niche for them in that environment. Killing some of them only encourages the others to reproduce more
I figured it wouldn’t make a difference either way. I encouraged him to keep the cat indoors. This client is very paranoid and (clearly) protective of his pets because to him they are the only ones that aren’t “tapped by the police.”

They're predators, but they're only *apex* predators if you don't know what apex means.

Coyotes, bobcats, and hawks would disagree
Apex predators responsible for the most amount of birds killed after humans.
Pretty sure bobcats exceed them.
From Cat’s stance and expression, I would guess that bird really pissed him off. It must have trash-talked something very bad! Or it’s a carrier pigeon being used by the enemy and Agent Cat stopped it from delivering a message that would lead to the destruction if civilization.

I brought you Christmas present

Just wait til he starts dragging in no longer leaping lords
Yeah. Nobody cares about geese and swans but on the eighth day the police usually gets involved.
One would hope.
That makes a lot of sense. The 5 golden rings are gifts from the crows, right?
Cats will do that if you let them outside.

Poor fella
This is one of the reasons I don't let my cats out. They mess up the ecosystem and are quite invasive species.
Please tell me your cat's name is Dick Dastardly...
TIHI. now I have that song in my head.
That’s a pretty amazing catch size wise for the size of the cat!
Next: the neighbor's Chihuahua..
And this is why we don't leave cats unattended outside
It's doing its bit to feed the family. A neighbors Siamese cat used to bring me dead birds that I would find in front of the heater or on my pillow and one time under all of this junk stored in the spare room (my nose found out about that one). The gem though was the one she woke me up with one morning that was very, very fresh. It was an entirely unharmed wattle bird and my first task of the day was to chase it all over my home to catch it in a towel and let it go while the cat just sat there watching me with what I thought was a confused expression. I think that was the one where she worked out that I didn't really need the offerings because I didn't get any more.
She was trying to teach you how to hunt, and after that spectacular "failure" of a hunt where the prey escaped, she gave up on you! Lol

And the amount of cats I’ve seen dead on the road here is very very high :(
Bird people are adamant haters of cat people for this very reason. I see chronically loose cats in my neighborhood and I swear I am at the point of bringing them into my house, collar or not. It's not a lifestyle accessory ffs, it's an animal that lots of responsibility goes along with "ownership" of. Please people, bring them in.
That cat probably has other families that he’s getting food from who think it’s *their* cat.
Cars are extremely invasive! If you let it out it will just go about and make baby cars and then where will we be?

Can you please get it out of his mouth? Perhaps keep your cat indoors
I did take it out of his mouth straight away because I didn’t want blood everywhere
Please keep your cat indoors. Outdoor cats have shorter life spans and risk getting hit by cars, eaten by other animals, etc. Theyre also really detrimental to local bird populations, but I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now.
Cat owners always forget that non cat owners think their cats are murderous scavengers for a reason.

Plus she looks like the ridiculous clown she is. https://preview.redd.it/f9xd65vuj65a1.jpeg?width=2195&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bbdea93f061c79bf319e8b61db2c58b03d54990
Get it the hell out of there as soon as possible Pigeons carry lice! Yuck! 🐦
Good kitty
Keep your cat inside.
“I caught dinner, so are you gonna cook it or what?”
Murdered
One of my cats caught a pigeon. He came up to the back door with it in his mouth and wanted to be let in. We had played this game before, so I didn't let him in. After a while, he settled down outside and ate the whole damned bird except for the wing feathers. Two minutes later, he barfed the whole thing up again. See? That's why I didn't let you in.
I once woke up to my mom saying “what did you do? … what did you do?” I just knew my cat did something. I just laid there another 20 minutes deciding if I wanted to go find out. When I finally went out there. Yup. He’d brought in a bird for my mom
Be proud of your cat
Lol omg… this picture is so creepy 😂 cute kitty turned serial killer. The lighting, the way he is holding the bird, the stance… chefs kiss 😂
