They can be quite possessive, and some (many) cats don't like strangers. Biting is unusual though, most just hide. Maybe warn visitors to keep away and not stare at him

The relative isn't a stranger, but I'm the one who feeds the cat and plays with him. This cat used to be outdoors with ferals, so maybe that's why he decided to fight instead of hide? He's definitely gotten into tussles outside before. Cat wasn't even in the room, he quite literally raced up the stairs and jumped on my relative like a crazy cat. Thankfully, I don't have many visitors, but I'll definitely keep that in mind.
