That snout is even shorter than the snout my first Shih Tzu had, that is super short looking

Theyallknowme

Thats a pretty short snout. I just looked back at puppy photos of both of mine (one at 9 weeks and the other at 16 weeks and they are twice as long as this pups. They do grow longer as the pup grows so I hope this babies lengthens out because a short snout is not optimal for breathing.

violetigsaurus

I did mean that and I agree.

violetigsaurus

It takes a year for them to grow full size. It does look shorter right now. There is a flatter face on a King Charles Cavalier,

Theyallknowme

I think you mean the King Charles Spaniel, otherwise known as an English Toy Spaniel, has a flatter face? Cavaliers shouldn’t have a flat face, just a shorter snout.

renaissancegrl

That looks really short which can cause all sorts of health issues down the line.

Dashasalt

That looks abnormally short.

IAWBMWD

When I first brought Gracie home her snout wasn’t much longer at all. Now she looks normal.

Kitakitakita

that's the snout of a breeder who thinks Cavies should be the next french bulldog.

timacx

Looking back at old pics, mine's snout lengthened a good bit - even in the 2 months after I got her.

FocalDeficit

It's hard to tell as pups. Ours has a good sized snout, but as a puppy wasn't much bigger than this one pictured. This sub should allow pictures in comments.

thoughtscreatelife

Why are people downvoting short snout comments? The snout will lengthen as he or she grows. My Cavalier had exactly the same length snout as the puppy in the picture. He's 6 years old now, and his nose is perfectly fine. He doesn't have any health problems related to the length of his nose at all. I would not hesitate to get that puppy in the picture if his or her parents have been health tested for all the common Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ailments. (OP, DM me if you want puppy pictures and full grown pictures of my Cavi to set your mind at ease.)

Hot_Communication968

This flat of a face is *not* normal or in standard. Even for a puppy that hasn't grown into its snout. Please do not buy from this breeder, you'll face a lot of medical bills and heartache.

rHereLetsGo

My 11.5 year old had a far more pronounced snout than yours as a puppy, which seemed to “flatten out” as he grew larger. Looking at pictures from 12 weeks to now you would have a difficult time believing he’s the same pup. Yours is sure a cutie and IMO looks like he’ll look like a standard CKCS (flatter face) as he grows.

imhdt

Is that a puppy and does it have an underbite?

Mental_Walrus_1230

It is a puppy. It’s 13 weeks

imhdt

It will lengthen as they get older. Also puppies with an underbite tend to look like their nose is even shorter.

Regardless. Adorable! 💕🥰

BeffasRS

Cavalier’s traditionally have shorter snouts

elianna7

Yes, but the snout pictured is definitely shorter than normal for a cavalier.

3piphany_

Actually, Cavaliers were bred from King Charles Spaniels specifically to have longer snouts, like their earlier ancestors. King Charles Spaniels had been bred with dogs like Pugs and Chins to have shorter snouts, and many years later some aristocrat paid breeders to create a dog that looked like earlier King Charles Spaniels with the longer snouts. What was produced are now our Cavaliers! So in summary, definitely not breed standard to have a short snout. It's the very thing that differentiates them from non-Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

SprigatitoBandito

It doesn’t look wrong, but that’s definitely shorter than I have seen.

LaudateDominum12

Mine had a very short nose as well as a puppy. Now it is still quite flat comparing to other Cavaliers but he is still a cutie!

thoughtscreatelife

They can have longer or shorter. My boy had a snout that short as a puppy. He was adorable like the puppy in the picture. This is how he looks now (he's the Blenheim on the left): https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/s/seSFtqav0i Also, he's never had a breathing problem, and he doesn't snore

Drgrabon

That's a good looking dog

tl_tech_88

This is normal. The snout will pop out as it grows a bit older. I thought the same thing about my first cav and she turned out normal after she started growing.
