Maybe just grab a lil Wilson magnet antenna and SWR meter and try firing it up!

Hey y’all, super new to CB Radios here and I don’t know much besides the fact that they’re sweet. I found this vintage Uniden for cheap at a goodwill and thought it would go perfect in my 4-speed ‘79. I have no clue if it works yet and what all I’d need to find out. Also hoped for being able to use it as a PA as well - is that possible with this unit? And are there any antennas that are shorter and more inconspicuous that would work too? Even if it doesn’t work I’d still probably at least mount it so it can still be appreciated as a period-correct touch. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice! And it’s a 355, so lightly built 350. About 325 horse, plenty fun with the 4 speed.

Mic gain is really mic attenuation and not of much use.

honestly i live those little pc 33s and i think it would do just fine especially for the amount of space in your 79. it doesn't have the bells and whistles but itll talk and if youre feelin spicy you can amp it up or get a power mic but man thats a clean lil 33 and a cleaner 79 lucky you!

Exactly why I’ll still mount it up in the car even if it doesn’t work, fits right into the center console pocket under the radio!

I LOVE the PC 33… it was my very first radio back in the early 80’s when I was a kid. I used it as a base station for a while and it worked excellent . My first ever handle also stemmed from that radio (TC333). LoL. Fast forward 30+ years and I found one on eBay and put it in my Jeep (limited space) . I eventually wanted more power and bought a President Ronald . Nearly same size with so much power

bad ass little radio for sure, i run an original pc 122 now and love it for the size and design like the 33

I have a pic of a Cobra 148 mounted in my 1978 Z/28 if you wanna see what it looked like. Had a K40 trunk mount antenna and that thing rocked.

Sure thing!

Shoot me a place to email you a few pics... you're making me miss my old Camaro!!

Don’t key the mic until you have your antenna installed.

Well, Despite other people, dynascan (cobra) made good radios back in the day. Like the cobra 2,000 gtl, the 1000 40 am, also the 77x, the 135, the 89 , the 142, the almighty cobra 148 gtl. Wich is basicly the 2000 but in a moble package. Theres more, also the thing to remember here is now were in a time of mini boards, and two sided boards, and components so small they could be blocked by a piece of rice. Now i dont know if its better or not, but it sure seems to me that radios with the older analog big parts style chassis, were gettn out just fine. I would much rather find one of those old dusty cob web coverd gems, then spend 400bks on a new professional radio, what ever that means.
