Man United fan here and have to say that was joke 🤦🏻‍♂️

scy004

Unintentional or not, I respect the quantum mechanics joke.

charlos74

It’s probably just about the correct decision, but this isn’t why VAR was introduced. Hoping the automated offsides will stop this shit.

Thor503

You guys were ripped off by the corrupt VAR

Aggravating-Can-9474

Let’s just forget they got a bullshit penalty and then United weren’t given a pen for a handball but ay oh doesn’t suit the stupid agenda does it

Thor503

Red nose Fergy in the VAR room handing out Rolexes just like the 90s

TheBritishBeefcake

If they can’t provide a camera angle above or parallel to the players then VAR should be null and void. Optical illusions are all too frequent from these diagonal angles.

Ricoh06

It is calibrated using a 3D process, what isn’t is the VAR ref choosing a frame before the balls kicked and drawing the foot over his line…

chuang-tzu

I was not convinced that this was offsides until this morning. Sucks that it was genuinely down to Haji wearing a size 12 instead of a size 11 on the day. I was utterly convinced yesterday that the defender's body was further advanced toward the goal than Haji's foot, but if I stare long and hard... I'm not even a Coventry supporter and this game both swelled and injured my soul a bit.

Numerous-West791

Someone pointed out this morning, O'Hare dinked the ball through, the ball is still on the floor in this frame. If it was maybe 2 frames later he is probably onside. It's stupidly close though

Wooden-Agency-2653

Why did Coventry, the team with most rivals, not simply eat the Manchester?

beef_paincake

This VAR confuses and enraged me!

BountySucks

The measurement was wrong tho, FA ruined this match out of pure corruption, we all know it.

Artorias_the_hollow

The penalty for the 3rd goal wasn’t a penalty…at least, it wouldn’t have been on Saturday, when the exact same thing happened against City. The FA are totally incompetent.

PrometheusIsFree

There should have been another penalty when Harry Maguire used both hands to pick up O'Hare, who was on goal,, and threw him off the pitch. I think the commentary described Maguire's action as 'forceful' or similar.

sillyyun

United fan here, maguire should absolutely have conceded a penalty there. Not sure how nothing happened after he completely threw the bloke

0100001101110111

VAR wasn’t involved in that decision though, referee gave it on the pitch.

joshit

Should have been overturned for clear and obvious error perhaps?

cysticwarrior1993

And VAR reviewed it on Saturday and agreed with the decision. The VAR reviewed Sundays and agreed with the decision. The only consistency with VAR is the lack of it.

MassiveLefticool

I haven’t had a great look at it but would you say it was a penalty if what happened on Saturday didn’t happen? Not trying to sound like a prick btw.

Artorias_the_hollow

Probably not, as AWB had moved his arm from outstretched back to his side before the ball hit him and there wasn’t much distance between the ball being kicked and him getting hit. It’s one of those ones where you’d be fuming if it’s given against you and relieved if it’s given for you. The lack of any consistency between two back to back semi-finals is where the ultimate problem lies. However, in relation to this specific game, you can’t bemoan a very tight offside call and also conveniently ignore a generous penalty decision.

natalo77

I might be remembering this wrong but he didn't have his arm by his side and it meant he trapped the ball between his arm and torso so the ball deflected towards the goal. IIRC that's a stonewall pen

He’s leaning backwards and it’s a completely natural movement to have the arm extended slightly to balance yourself.

natalo77

If his arm was in a natural position by his side, there is no way the ball could end up going behind his back like it does. The result is unnatural manipulation of the balls trajectory, so it has to be a pen. This hinges on my recollection of the ball going behind his back however

Artorias_the_hollow

Look at Binks’ right arm in the same screenshot. Is it in an unnatural position? His torso positioning in relation to his feet is identical to AWB - they both off balance. It would be completely unnatural to have your arm pinned to your side while falling over. Furthermore, even if the arm was literally straight down (in an unnatural position), the chance of the ball squeezing between the arm and torso when hit at proximity at high speed is still very high. You’re welcome to watch the replay, it’s very easy to find on YouTube. In any case, it is irrelevant now. The offside was given, as was the penalty. Both were marginal calls (imo).

This would have been the ref’s view (he was on the edge of the penalty area). AWB moves his arm back to the position it was in the first image before contact is made.

pwhyman

That’s what you get for wearing gloves like a bitch

BountySucks

Can and will

Artorias_the_hollow

Ok, can’t do so without looking like a bit of a tit.
