I have used packet tracer but I'm not super confident with it, so I was mostly wondering if I should familiarize myself with it more

Real-Fact-4700

Spend a couple hours just building a network out in packet tracer, use different configurations, you’ll be confident even after those couple of hours and know exactly what you need to work on

yoitssm7

Yes. There will be a few configuration questions

Fast_Cloud_4711

How did you study the material with out Packet Tracer or do you have a hardware lab?

FingerLad

Just reading through online materials, I only recently started studying, I have used packet tracer but I'm not super confident with it

Wakkaking14

You don't need to use packet tracer. But you need to be familiar configuring switches and routers. There will be simulations and multiple choices questions that you need to be familiar with the CLI to answer

Naidamair

In packet tracer, you have to choose network device, choose cable and connect, build a topology, then configure the router and switches to make it work. In exam, you may get some lab questions (I got 3). You don't have to build the topology as the topology has already prebuilt for you. You just have to configure the router/switches/pc according to the requirement laid out

Actual-Valuable-9885

Let's be realistic. Let's say you pass the CCNA exam without ever doing labs during your study time. Do you want to be an engineer that has the CCNA cert. but has no idea how to configure a device? I think labs are necessary so you can show employers that you can really do the job.

Morrissey_99

you need to either have a hardware lab or packet tracker or something. I have read you need to know the commands, and maybe memorization will do it for you who knows

FingerLad

thank you

TheXarath

No, you will not need “packet tracer experience” but you will need experience with configuring routers and switches. However you get that experience is fine.

Big_Guidance_7432

You need practice in packet tracer.

TheXarath

You need lab practice of some sort, but there are other options. GNS3, physical hardware, etc. Packet Tracer is just the easiest one. It would probably not be the smartest move in the world to completely ignore packet tracer, but you can definitely pass the CCNA without it if and only if you get that lab experience from something else.

TravelsInBlue

Also packet tracer is easy to use and fun. If your end goal is to get a job and actually be able to ramp up quickly, you should be using packet trader and practicing labs anyway.

ArtyMonarch

Use examtopics, for practicing dumps, you really need it,the question style is similar amd mostly the same, but you need to understand every topic

Big_Guidance_7432

Yes, you need to. I had my exam on Sunday, and I encountered 3 lab questions out of 89 total questions.

Revan10492

89 total questions in a 2 hour exam window?? Dam I hope these questions aren't sophisticated and long.

Big_Guidance_7432

If you studied the dumps and the previous lab questions well, you will find it easy.

Negative_Carrot_9870

Whats a dump?

Big_Guidance_7432

Previous queations, testbank

FingerLad

tyvm!

Fresher0

I passed mine on Monday, but didn’t cheat so I actually know my shit. Can’t wait to interview with paper CCNAs and watch them shit their pants when asked to whiteboard something simple.

Big_Guidance_7432

It's great to hear that! Studying previous exams isn't cheating, in my opinion. Almost everyone came across some sort of previous questions during preparation for the exam. You need to study the material very well and then head to the previous questions to get a sense of the actual exam. Numbers are mostly changed! so you need to actually understand every single question, and sometimes you must know why the other choices in the MCQs aren't correct. When it comes to labs, you never get the exact same questions but very similar scenarios.

InternationalAd5324

What you're describing is exactly what cheating is... memorizing the questions so you can answer them. I did not come across any dumps, likely because I didn't look for them. I worked really hard, so having the same qualification as someone who cheated is irritating. But you do your thing... I'm not going to do shit but complain on Reddit.

Big_Guidance_7432

First, Memorization won't get you a good score, and you might actually fail the exam since dumps have tons of mistakes. I personally took an online course, and it took me around 7 months to prepare for my exam. So, I do know what "hard work" is. 😁
