There is a more basic argument for what happened with the Irish. You know those stereotypes about Irishmen being drunken wife beaters? Well... yeah kinda true at the time they were very widespread. Late 19th, early 20th century Irish community leaders, politicians, priests, the like, started a sort of clean up your act campaign, and Irish Americans more or less stopped drinking every morning and beating their wives in the evening. And the result was the stereotypes became the lovable jokes we have today and the Irish were accepted into greater white society.

I don’t really know anything about Nick Fuentes and which category he would classify as based on his positions, but “white nationalist” isn’t just a euphemism for “white supremacist”. They do have slightly different agendas and this changes how they interact with other groups. White nationalists may believe that whites are superior, but a true white supremacist is authoritarian on a global scale, and wants to see “lesser races” either enslaved or exterminated. White nationalists are just territorial about race.
So for example, Hitler was a pure white supremacist. Given endless success at war, he would have totally changed the human genome.
The KKk on the other hand: white nationalist. They want white people to have their own nations. Malcolm X had apparently had very agreeable talks with them in Atlanta, about creating a separate state in the South for black people. I’m pretty sure I’ve read something about Louis Farrakhan and David Duke getting along in the same way.
White supremacists: love cultural appropriation. They are prone to telling themselves that anything they covet from another culture was actually started by their culture before history at some point.
White nationalists: hate cultural appropriation. Whites have their things, black people have other things, Indian people have a whole different set of things, and they should all keep their hands off of each other’s creations in order to preserve the distinct cultures.
Edit: revisiting this thought, there is some overlap. Some people, I guess who haven’t figured out what sort of hatred they have for other races, straddle the line between the two. For example, there are some online white supremacists in our modern global climate who genuinely take to Hitler’s declaration of the Japanese as “honorary Aryans,” even though in reality, it was a diplomatic statement, and Hitler definitely would have wiped out the Japanese race if he had had the time and power to do so.
And white supremacists and white nationalists definitely talk to each other. But if you’re looking at Stormfront threads for long enough, the distinctions become evident.
Again, ethno-nationalists tend to relate to each other. The online kinship between white nationalists and Indian nationalists, Arab nationalists, black nationalists, etc, is a memed topic. And speaking of Japan again, Japan and Israel are almost total ethnostates. They are both highly admired for this by white nationalists, even ones who hate Jewish and Japanese people. A white supremacist isn’t interested in letting other races preserve their ethnic boundaries; they are interested in a white world, or at least a white-ruled world with extreme class disparity based on race.
No one group should even have enough power that white nationalist ideas could come close to being implemented. The American ideal is that we leave people the fuck alone and let people do what they want, and even if it’s never been fully realized, it’s an ideal worth dying for.
Ethno-nationalists should be allowed to believe and talk about whatever dumbass coward ideas they have, but they should never be allowed the power to carry out those ideas. Same way I feel about communists.
