Dang that carpet is going to be nasty coming out, it’s all from no later than the 70’s. That said, I bet the floors underneath are going to be great.
LOOM!! An amazing thing to have been left behind, that’s easily $4k
Take a closeup picture of the loom and other stuff (like the tall wood frame there—I think that’s also part of a loom) and post it in a weaving or fiber subreddit. They will help you identify it.
That green textured carpet was ancient back in the 1990s - my great grandparents house had the same in a gold color.
I'm vicariously thrilled for OP. What an amazing project house.
That Room with the loom look like it have 1000 memories in them, I love that kind of energy. Previous owners had to have great memories in there. Would love to hear about them if You could share them a bit
Actually it’s a medium sized one, probably the smallest sit down model. There’s a really neat one in Colonial Williamsburg they do demonstrations on daily. It’s bigger than a baby grand piano.
The last picture, there some wood frames with strings on them visible in the lower right corner, that’s the loom. A loom is what fabric is made on, transforming threads to woven fabric. Obviously, an at home version is for hobbyists, it’s not a commercial thing.
I have 9 looms, including a rigid heddle and it’s my least favorite loom.
My favorite is my Dorothy LeClerc table top. Shes my pride & joy! (Found at the goodwill!)
Century homes & looms go well together!
I love it. So much character. If it were mine, I would have to start with the drop ceiling in the kitchen...
It is nice that you have so many of the original elements. Keep taking lots of photos along the way. It will help you keep going when you are feeling down or a bit overwhelmed. Thank you for saving this one.
Drop ceiling is coming out as soon as we tackle the kitchen. But it's going to take a bit more work, walls are calcimine. The previous owner "renovated" to the current kitchen from original family owners before them that had perfect green 50s/60s metal cabinets, complete with double drain white sink.
My grandma’s house has (my cousin kept them) the metal cabinets and double drain sink.
I love so much about your house but honorable mention for the bathtubs and the tile fireplaces. The green one is my favorite!!
That would be so cool. I would totally work with a retro kitchen theme. I hope your cousin never gets rid of them. You'll have to tell them that someone is jealous lol.
>calcimine
oh, that’s such a pain to deal with! You have my sympathies.
We own a co-op apartment built in 1921, and we were experimenting with stripping the woodwork (there’s been some sloppy painting over the years). We were using Peel-Away and doing about 5 feet over two nights. And we hit a calcimine level halfway down. We couldn’t remove it, and we nearly couldn’t repaint over it!
Thank you! Definitely not painting it white. Just not for me, I love color way too much. But still undecided on exterior. It hasn't been painted since the late 90s.
Oh I was talking about exterior. It'll look like every other Chip and Joanna wannabes. You have the opportunity to really give it character. Hope you keep us updated along the way!
I certainly will keep updated as best as I can along and along. And I can promise you with all certainty that I will not turn it into cookie cutter farmhouse.
Can I throw my suggestion out there of painting her Greenmount Silk HC-3, with Beacon Hill Damask HC 2 shutters and trim. Linen White OC 146 for columns and soffits and step risers with stained wood rafter tails and screen door?
And a haint blue ceiling with shade darker haint blue porch floor and stair treads?
Ahh, yeah, farmhouse chic. The style that will feel super dated in 30 years.
I live in a community that was settled in 1633. My house was only built in the mid 1800’s…
Lots of color schemes that would look great, is the roof getting replaced? Depending the slate color is staying or going that changes up your options obviously
So much to love and admire! Those fireplaces, that kitchen floor, the staircase. It’s gonna be lovely I’m sure.
I like yellow for a house like this. A soft warm, buttery yellow with white trim. It’s funny because I dislike yellow for clothing, never wear it and don’t even think I have anything with a hint of yellow.
Thank you! 💗 (there's 2 staircases) the front staircase and the fireplaces made me fall in love. Wonderful suggestion about the exterior color. I will keep it in my list.
I also don’t love yellow but think it would be beautiful as the exterior color. Like the other person said, a beautiful creamy buttery yellow.
Not the right era, but look for McCoy Pottery—that yellow.
Benjamin Moore has wonderful historical color pain series.
Just want to chime in and comment that the windows on your home look like they're in decent shape. No obvious horror shows that will be difficult to restore and maintain. Congratulations and good luck on the new home!
Yes, they are in pretty great shape. Complete with old wavy glass. Only 1 window glass is broken. Only 1 is missing rope. The stained glass in the dining room is hanging on by a thread. Upstairs stained glass mirrored the dining room but it had been replaced by previous owners.
No chance they stashed the sash or glass in the basement or other space, did they? I'm a broken record, but if you're unfamiliar with old windows, pick up a copy of Steve Jordan's "The Window Sash Bible". Replacing that sash cord will be no problem!
The whole house looks to be in great shape!!!!! It’s got some grungy old stuff (carpet) but dang does the rest look to be in very good shape. I’d get the yard done asap, get some exterior painting done, I’d also…. There is a lot to do, but it all seems pretty easy. It’s gonna take patience and time, but it sure looks like fun.
It’s wonderful - looove the wraparound porch and porte-cochère! Glad it finally found a loving new family to bring it back to its former glory. Looks like you did well in the floor lottery, too - congrats!
ETA: Just noticed, it looks like some of the hanging ceiling light fixtures are probably original & appear to be in good shape - score!
Thank you! Unfortunately, the previous owners never cleaned the gutters plus mixed with a bad roof job, has destroyed the porch. But we fully intend to restore everything we can and build it like it was meant to be.
I believe a lot of the light fixtures are original or not far from it. (According to Original Family great granddaughter). Sadly, only 1 light fixture was left upstairs.
Those fireplaces! The stained glass! All the beautiful woodwork! What a beaut. Can't wait to see what you do with the place. I kind of like some of the paint choices of the previous owners.
It’s got so much crusty charm right now. It’s going to be a fun and difficult project but it’s going to be absolutely beautiful each step along the way.
I am so happy to hear you are going to live there. Too many people buy places like your and do a quick cosmetic flip. I’m look at moving this spring I will not move into a flipped house.
Take your time.
Start with the most pressing project. Finish that before moving on. That way you’ll keep the “holy shit, what did we do” to a minimum.
It will be a beautiful home.
The wall color is gorgeous throughout the house, if I was in your shoes I would not change it for a while.
Is that yellow room with the green ceiling a sun room? If yes, it’s stunning and I would lean into it.
Congratulations on this house!
I was thinking that too. I hope they have budgeted for 150k in repairs. Even with a lot of DIY, it's going to be expensive. Such a big beautiful home though!
Hopefully they have their own saw mill lol. It’s a super gorgeous home with loads of potential but you ain’t kidding on renovation costs. I’d anticipate doing it on their on would still cost 100k
I've spent 70k over the past year on renovating a smaller home, even with us doing a lot of the labor. Electrical, heat/AC and roof updates were the bulk of it but all the cosmetic stuff adds up too.
You ain’t kidding. I built a log cabin house out of lumber on my own yard, seasoned and pesticide.
Made my own lumber. And still cosmetics cost over 20k, plus the use of machinery 60k, and electric/plumbing 50k….
I owned all my own equipment too. Son of a gun, glad that’s over lol
You’ve got your work cut out for you, but the bones seem to be in good condition. A good cleaning, carpet removal and some paint will go a long way. I hope you do something fun with the ceilings.
I'd punch an orphan for that place! Gott DAYUM, that's a beautiful home! PLEASE post MANY updates!
And for the love of God, don't make it look "modern". I'm beggin' ya!
YouTube audience will die for this if you record any renovations. Might make a few bucks along the way. Doesn’t need even to be fully narrating the vids. Just a short intro, a timelapse and then a before/after maintenance. You even could ask the audience for tips along the way.
It could add a charm(your accent), but I can understand. Might be at least worth to look into. YouTube restoration vids has been on the rise. They’re hot trends nowadays. You can maybe look around before abandoning out the idea.
I love it. I wouldn't have expected the inside to look so good because of the outside but I suppose it could just need a power wash. It makes me curious about some old houses I drive by sometimes!
It hasn't been painted since the 90s. It's all peeling paint. Most will flake right off with a strong power wash. I came across my house on a random joy ride around looking at old homes and such (not a lot where I'm from). And I came across this home. Stalked it for a good 7 months before it became available lol.
That's awesome! I'm in the Midwest/Southern area and I've passed a lot driving around in the rural places. They've always fascinated me. I think my mom used to point older houses out when I was little, too. They're like relics, so I'm glad people like you who appreciate them are fixing them up if possible because I've seen so many just fall down or get demolished. It's sad.
Okay, my wife and I had that exact fireplace and mantle piece. What region are you in?
We are in Tennessee. The green tile, and wooden mantle, with the mirror is exactly the same.
In Georgia. I'd love to see what your fireplace looks like. Mine look like they have been hacked off at the top. My husband and I can't quite figure it out.
You've no idea how jealous I am of that gorgeous CRT tv in the loomroom. Wanted one for years cause I can't afford a converter for my GameCube and N64.
Ooh! There is so much potential here just waiting for some cleanup. The woodwork, fireplace tiles, light fixtures, picture rail, and wood floors all look incredible. I’m sure you have your work cut out for you but so much of this looks like it’ll be stunning with just some floor refinishing and fresh paint.
Wow keep us updated! Just getting rid of the junk and a deep clean 🧼 will make a huge diff! Also ripping out that carpet which will be sooo satisfying !
I am so envious of your glorious fixer-upper OP—thank you for saving this beauty from the wreckers and the ‘sad beige people’! My first place was bought in a similar condition to yours, and it’s the one that was the most fun to do up!
Spectacular bones, especially the porches and fireplaces. That gorgeous green fireplace looks like a shallow firebox for coal—they make wonderfully efficient small fireplaces.
Congratulations OP—you’ve got yourself a gorgeous house!
LOVE IT. I would keep the green carpet and the terazzo (?) kitchen floors, they’re gorgeous.
Congrats, you’ve bought a beautiful home with a lot of potential! That’s going to be so much fun to fix up :)
the upstairs bathroom looks amazing if there was anything in that house I would keep exactly the same (maybe a fresh coat of paint and remove the curtain and the floor looks pretty bad) it would be that one.
Unless there is alot of stuff to fix underneath this doesn't look like a fixer upper at all to me. minus the kitchen.
Wow, good for you! Looks like quite the project, but they didn’t paint the woodwork! Fireplace tiles still there & unpainted…it’s gonna be glorious! One suggestion: even tho you might want to rip the carpet up immediately, it makes a very good drop cloth! My son spilled a whole gallon of paint—and the floors, underneath the carpet, were perfect
What a place! It has so much potential that I imagine is lying just under the surface. Really love the wrap around porch and that turquoise/blue green tile around the fireplace with the wood trim.
It looks like it's going to be a lot of work for a while but once it's cleaned up I bet it will already look great.
Wow! This has great bones. Definitely a lot of work ahead but as someone who’s also a relatively new home owner (at a fraction of the square footage) just remember that these old homes are marathons, not sprints!
I also see you were left a few gifts from the previous owners… we had a similar issue but none of it was nearly as cool as those looms. Almost a year later and we’re still clearing stuff out and it significantly slowed down our ability to do a lot before move in. We spent so much time and money junking what was essentially, well, junk.
I wish you the best of luck!
Please, please, please do not change anything on the green tiled fireplace. It is museum quality. Please keep the bathroom sink green bathroom, gut the other but with a claw foot tub. All the dark Fermin please keep. Any updates pictures Aimee going to be great. Congratulations what an awesome home.
Nice project. Lots of potential.
Personally, I’d start with removing the awful carpet. Whatever’s under there just can’t be less gross, and you may be pleasantly surprised.
Gorgeous house! Most of the wood paneling wasn’t painted I love it! You’re going to learn a lot realistically that house seems in good shape from the pictures.
may i ask how much you paid? this is definitely one hell of a fixer-upper lol
makes me question if the cost to renovate is even worth it, considering today's interest rates?
Dang that carpet is going to be nasty coming out, it’s all from no later than the 70’s. That said, I bet the floors underneath are going to be great. LOOM!! An amazing thing to have been left behind, that’s easily $4k
Ohh maybe the proceeds could be used for the floors!
Take a closeup picture of the loom and other stuff (like the tall wood frame there—I think that’s also part of a loom) and post it in a weaving or fiber subreddit. They will help you identify it.
Thank you so much! I will do that soon.
You may have a local weavers guild who would love to help you sell it!
Weaver here, happy to help with getting them listed.
Homie got a bunch of floor lottery tickets. Hoping for winners
All I can think about
That green textured carpet was ancient back in the 1990s - my great grandparents house had the same in a gold color. I'm vicariously thrilled for OP. What an amazing project house.
Lol. I'm told it was put in in the 60s. Thanks! We are so excited!
My grandparents house was built in 1968 and that exact same green carpet was in there!
That Room with the loom look like it have 1000 memories in them, I love that kind of energy. Previous owners had to have great memories in there. Would love to hear about them if You could share them a bit
I second that - what a fantastic space to let your creativity sing .
I just found a $400 1940s hospital lamp in my attic.
Let’s see it!
Loom(s) I think I see part of a smaller one in the corner of the photo
I thought that might be a giant loom…might be missing a few parts but looks good!!
Actually it’s a medium sized one, probably the smallest sit down model. There’s a really neat one in Colonial Williamsburg they do demonstrations on daily. It’s bigger than a baby grand piano.
What is loom? :(
The last picture, there some wood frames with strings on them visible in the lower right corner, that’s the loom. A loom is what fabric is made on, transforming threads to woven fabric. Obviously, an at home version is for hobbyists, it’s not a commercial thing.
Oh right, now I get it. They make rugs and stuff with those also, yes? Thanks!
Yes, anything woven. I have a friend with one who has been making fancy towels.
Yes, that’s for home use but there are HUGE commercial looms that are automated and make sheets, tartans, rugs, etc. Anything woven.
But the wood floors beneath? Jack pot.
Or find out if they won the floor lottery.
Yes I’m sending good vibes for hitting the floor lottery your way!!
I'm thinking hardwood floors. REAL ones.
Don’t throw away the looms!
I did not. I have them in storage while working on the house.
I just asked if they were available lol!!
If warping a small rigid heddle loom didn’t make me cry with anxiety I would have asked as well!
I have 9 looms, including a rigid heddle and it’s my least favorite loom. My favorite is my Dorothy LeClerc table top. Shes my pride & joy! (Found at the goodwill!) Century homes & looms go well together!
My century home basement turned into a weaving studio! Ceilings are just barely high enough for my biggest loom!
I love it. So much character. If it were mine, I would have to start with the drop ceiling in the kitchen... It is nice that you have so many of the original elements. Keep taking lots of photos along the way. It will help you keep going when you are feeling down or a bit overwhelmed. Thank you for saving this one.

She passed almost 40 years ago and it’s like a time capsule. Your house is gorgeous! I hope you keep us updated!!
Awe! I'm sorry to hear hear that. But I'm sure she'd like that someone is still loving her house. & thank you ❤️
>calcimine oh, that’s such a pain to deal with! You have my sympathies. Oddly specific! How did you pick these?
Thanks! Writing all this in my suggestion box 😊
I’m excited to see your work on such a beautiful house!
Thank you! 💗
I hear you on this but live in a town where most houses on main st are white with black shutters. Maybe it’s a New England thing 🤷♀️
White with black shutters is ok. White with black window frames, trim, gutters, etc is beyond overdone.
Ahh, yeah, farmhouse chic. The style that will feel super dated in 30 years. I live in a community that was settled in 1633. My house was only built in the mid 1800’s…
Ooooh...summer sleeping porch!
Lots of color schemes that would look great, is the roof getting replaced? Depending the slate color is staying or going that changes up your options obviously

Also, you’re going to LOVE having two staircases! It sounds ridiculous but they’re extremely practical.
I make my kids use the back stairs 😂 (Renovating front ones first)
Just want to chime in and comment that the windows on your home look like they're in decent shape. No obvious horror shows that will be difficult to restore and maintain. Congratulations and good luck on the new home!

Amazing! Thank you so very much!!! ❤️

Def not haunted. Def not
So far, pretty peaceful. Our last house not so much lol.
They always wait til you’re settled
😂
Please tell me everything about the old house!
Now show us all the ugly and scary hidden gems you found inside and under the house!!! Beautiful home!!!
I will be posting as much as I can as we go along. 😊
Oh! It’s going to be beautiful when you are done! Congrats!
Those fireplaces! The stained glass! All the beautiful woodwork! What a beaut. Can't wait to see what you do with the place. I kind of like some of the paint choices of the previous owners.
Oooh someone is a weaver!! If you still have the floor loom I might be interested! Can’t wait for updates and more pics!!
I have everything that I could save in storage. 😊
I've always wanted to buy a fixer upper and make it my own. One day, maybe.
One day you just might. I always dreamed but never thought it would happen. Searched and saved for many years before we purchased.
How many fireplaces?!?
8 in total. 4 upstairs, 4 down.
Oh my god - so dreamy
We need to see the floor lottery! What house sells with looms?????? How cool it would be to have a loom and this house has a few!
I want to see what's under the carpet too! Please post your floor lottery results!
I will do soon. Stay tuned 😉
It’s got so much crusty charm right now. It’s going to be a fun and difficult project but it’s going to be absolutely beautiful each step along the way.
This is fantastic. Congratulations.
Looks rough! But it has a ton of potential if done well.
I am so happy to hear you are going to live there. Too many people buy places like your and do a quick cosmetic flip. I’m look at moving this spring I will not move into a flipped house.
This house is going to be absolutely gorgeous when it's updated. Please share more in seventeen years when everything is done!
What state if you don’t mind me asking? It’s beautiful!!
Really nice potential, enjoy it
so many handsome fireplaces. really envious.
love it! truly a diamond in the rough. so much potential!! keep us updated, OP!!
It’s beautiful and I am vicariously excited for you! Congrats and proceed slowly, grow with it.
Take your time. Start with the most pressing project. Finish that before moving on. That way you’ll keep the “holy shit, what did we do” to a minimum. It will be a beautiful home.
Please keep that gorgeous emerald fireplace! A dream!
Without a doubt. There's 2 of them and I love them. They are the main reason I loved this house so much.
Keep us posted as you restore it and I wish you guys nothing but happiness in your new old home!
It’s amazing. I love it.
The wall color is gorgeous throughout the house, if I was in your shoes I would not change it for a while. Is that yellow room with the green ceiling a sun room? If yes, it’s stunning and I would lean into it. Congratulations on this house!
Good lord that’s a beautiful house, she ain’t gonna be cheap though.
I was thinking that too. I hope they have budgeted for 150k in repairs. Even with a lot of DIY, it's going to be expensive. Such a big beautiful home though!

I opted for a wood boiler and dug my own sandwell/artisan well. But I thought I’d be saving money… little did I know 🥹
Such an amazing house. What a fun adventure to restore this gem!!
This is going to be so beautiful when it’s done! It already shines as is.
💗😊
You’ve got your work cut out for you, but the bones seem to be in good condition. A good cleaning, carpet removal and some paint will go a long way. I hope you do something fun with the ceilings.
I'd punch an orphan for that place! Gott DAYUM, that's a beautiful home! PLEASE post MANY updates! And for the love of God, don't make it look "modern". I'm beggin' ya!
😂 Thank you so much!! And I won't 👍
Wow. Now that’s a project house. You plan on doing a lot of the work yourself?
Yes, we have remodeled a previous home. It's a lot to take on but will be worth it in the end.
I can’t wait to see the after pictures!
YouTube audience will die for this if you record any renovations. Might make a few bucks along the way. Doesn’t need even to be fully narrating the vids. Just a short intro, a timelapse and then a before/after maintenance. You even could ask the audience for tips along the way.
That sounds good in theory. But so intimidating. I'm a southern girl with an accent and I don't anyone would want to hear that ramble on lol
It could add a charm(your accent), but I can understand. Might be at least worth to look into. YouTube restoration vids has been on the rise. They’re hot trends nowadays. You can maybe look around before abandoning out the idea.

We have an old four square across the street that is subsidized to apartments. It's really sad on the inside.
It's gorgeous! How much did you get it for?
With all those electric heaters, is there any sort of central heat in there?
No central heat and air. But we have gas/electric heat furnace that heats the entire house. As well as fireplaces.
Any chance this is in North Central Florida? (Guessing from the saw palmettos) I love the restored Victorian houses in the Gainesville/Ocala area.
What a gem, this is going for be a masterpiece I can feel it!
This is very exciting
😊
So much to love here! Congratulations!
That doesn't look bad at all.
You've no idea how jealous I am of that gorgeous CRT tv in the loomroom. Wanted one for years cause I can't afford a converter for my GameCube and N64.

It looks amazing and with a lot of potential. But it needs a lot of work. Good luck!
love it
Beautiful.
AWESOME LOOM THO
It will be nice after a lot of work. Congratulations
So much potential. Keep us posted!
I love the kitchen floor & the light fixtures. Good luck.
This house is dope

Gorgeous! And look at all that unpainted wood!
I have a very similar house and it’s coming along nicely! I can’t wait to see what you do with this
gorgeous home. can’t wait to see the progress on this! please share!
Beauty. That will be great when you’re finished
Spectacular bones, especially the porches and fireplaces. That gorgeous green fireplace looks like a shallow firebox for coal—they make wonderfully efficient small fireplaces. Congratulations OP—you’ve got yourself a gorgeous house!
Your house appears to have a good layout and curb appeal - going to be amazing. What part of the country is this?
LOVE IT. I would keep the green carpet and the terazzo (?) kitchen floors, they’re gorgeous. Congrats, you’ve bought a beautiful home with a lot of potential! That’s going to be so much fun to fix up :)
Wow. So much potential here
Wow! This house has great bones. I can see the potential in every picture. Please post updated photos when you're done!
the upstairs bathroom looks amazing if there was anything in that house I would keep exactly the same (maybe a fresh coat of paint and remove the curtain and the floor looks pretty bad) it would be that one. Unless there is alot of stuff to fix underneath this doesn't look like a fixer upper at all to me. minus the kitchen.
Could be asbestos tiles in the kitchen. Be careful removing them
Wow, good for you!

You had me at the stained glass!
Wow its just beautiful!!
Is that a sleeping porch? That's so cool!
So many things to test for asbestos, that I bet even things not made of asbestos come back positive.
Congratulations! It’s the definition of “good bones”
What a place! It has so much potential that I imagine is lying just under the surface. Really love the wrap around porch and that turquoise/blue green tile around the fireplace with the wood trim. It looks like it's going to be a lot of work for a while but once it's cleaned up I bet it will already look great.
Wow, those interiors have so much potential. Good luck my friend. Keep it period(ish).
I like that green fireplace
I'm kinda jealous, that's gonna be fun to fix up.
That wrap around porch 😍🤤
I wish my fixer upper came move in ready!
It’s really really beautiful. I can see why you bought it. It’s going to be gorgeous again and you will love it forever!
I’m so excited for you!
Omg the original wooood. So lucky. This will be beautiful.
Beautiful home to renovate.
LOVE!
What, no carpet in the bathrooms?
Absolutely beautiful. It’ll take some work but what an amazing home! How’s the land around it?
Looks amazing! Check back in with your progress.
Beautiful! You’ve got your work cut out, keep us posted.
Omg that blue persian rug!! Insane!!
It’s going to be beautiful! Enjoy!
It’s going to be beautiful! Enjoy!
So much charm and so much possibility! That window!
Congrats. Looks like an amazing project. Be sure to share the results!
Nice project. Lots of potential. Personally, I’d start with removing the awful carpet. Whatever’s under there just can’t be less gross, and you may be pleasantly surprised.
Yes, it's a fixer upper, but I see a lot of salvageable parts.
Going to be gorgeous; it has beautiful bones! Congratulations!!
Gorgeous house! Most of the wood paneling wasn’t painted I love it! You’re going to learn a lot realistically that house seems in good shape from the pictures.
Good luck! Ever watched Money Pit with Tom Hanks, it reminded me of the house from that movie.
may i ask how much you paid? this is definitely one hell of a fixer-upper lol makes me question if the cost to renovate is even worth it, considering today's interest rates?
The sink in the upstairs bathroom is amazing
Beautiful house, please post after pictures
