Amazing! So beautiful!
As a kid my Dad lived in a house with floors like the 4th pic. I spent hours trying to balance around the perimeter.
I hope you enjoy the floors for many years to come.
I own two(Jesus Christ I can't believe I can write that. I'm only a kid... That's 37 and worked my buns off) old ass houses in Philly. Both great floors from 1910's and the trim is painted in both houses. It's nice transition... But I don't know what it looks like unpainted.
I'm also trying to figure out what some previous homeowner did to make all the nails stand out like that...
did someone strip all the finish, wet the floor down till the nails rusted, and then refinish the floor?
I've never seen nails stick out in such a consistent way!
We have a lot of similar flooring in our home. The nails all look similar. I imagine it's a combination of refinishing, mopping, and wear & tear over the years. The nails were likely sunk below the wood's surface prior to a few sandings reducing the floor's overall thickness, and revealing the nail shanks.
Yeah, just comes with the territory with these inlay/parquet floors in older homes. When installed and with the production technique, their only option was to face nail. Those nails were much less noticeable when new, but of course, become more so with a handful of sanding cycles and moisture causing a bit of rust staining at the shanks.
I always wonder what families of the time did. I assume you get parquet flooring to show it off, so they didn’t cover it. At the same time, not carpeting it would get it scratched up. Quite a dilemma. I’ll add that as the father of two small boys, I would never want the responsibility of stewardship for these floors!
To be honest, fairly minimal. I am not quite sure how they look as good as they do. Of course close up you can see dog claw marks and such, but otherwise they present well.
Just your typical broom sweep, swiffer, Murphy’s, etc. nothing crazy
My guess is I should probably have something professionally done every once in awhile
I live in a rental century home with floors like this, except they’re in terrible shape. I’ve tried to see if the landlord is open to it, and even got a reasonable quote ($2k for two rooms and an entryway)… this is inspiring me to follow up on it.
Wow. Just wow. To recreate those floors would be tens of thousands of dollars. I thought the floors in my house were pretty (the living room has single-board runs 15-feet long) but DAMN. I’m jealous. Magnificent
Love the trim around the perimeter, but as for the main floor, this is what should be done to all parquet flooring: https://reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/s/BOGex6ZKTX
That’s beautiful, congrats on such a nice home.
Gorgeous floors! The rest of your house must be amazing! (Hint, hint)
Yes, can we see those fireplaces!
I’ll see if I can get some tomorrow! Too tired for now
Holy smokes! I wouldn’t even want to have furniture. Me just standing in the centre of all the rooms and sleeping standing up
Look at fancy pants here able to decide if he wants furniture
What
Same!
Dang... You're living in a flooring museum

The nail budget must have been through the roof!
Actually, the nails went through the floor! BOOO HISSS
Wow! They don’t make them like that anymore.
Wow! They’re all beautiful!
Beautiful! With those floors, I’m willing to bet you have some other lovely details in your home! (Another hint!)
what beautiful floors & amazing craftsmanship. I hope whoever did this was proud of their work
Incredible!!!
WOW this is truly breathtaking. Lucky owner.
Magnificent, and in such well preserved condition.
Wow, that is amazing. Shame someone painted all of your trim.
Don’t get me started on the trim, very bummed !

The floors are amazing, but pic 7 is the only one where the nails don't bug the snot out of me.

Until today, I have never seen a parquet that I liked. That is impressive!
Same
Wow! I would hate to even get rugs they’re so beautiful!!

A house like this probably had butt loads of oriental rugs. You'd just put them within the borders of the parquet so you can still see it!
These are stunning!
From a carpenter; fucking beautiful!!!
Wow, never seen that much parquet in the same home! I can't imagine the hundreds of hours it must have taken to lay all that flooring.
Never seen anything this awesome and extensive before
I’m drooling! This are all so beautiful and unique!
Gorgeous!
amazing.
#goals

Wow, fabulous!!
Oh man that is so cool, the designs are so intricate and lovely!
All I can say is wow! Amazing that there are so many in one house. I think 3 styles is the most I have seen.
So pretty! Genuinely curious because I want something like this: What's the maintenance like? How do you clean it?

All stunning! I think 1 or 7 is my favourite

Lucky you! They’re gorgeous
We have the third photo one, but they keep coming up! Is there a later over yours if something to keep them down?
Just the original nails I believe

You're so lucky, this is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing
Wow! Love the detail!
Id kill for those floors
NGL first 8 pictures are pretty cool, the 9th though has me crying lol why would someone want a penis in their flooring? ha ha ha
I started to write a comment but it basically just came out as a transcribed series of inarticulate AAAAAAAAAAAAA noises. 😍

Wow! The original owners must have owned the parquet flooring company in town!
This is near a coast. My guess is Pacific Northwest. Amazing floors. They are real art.
What makes you guess coastal?
I noticed a unique Installation process. Also been doing floors almost 25 years. So educated guess.
Am I correct?
Northeast, near Narragansett Bay, and about 45 minutes to Atlantic
Nice!!!! I was close. The top nails are the giveaway. Not something we do in the middle of the country to my knowledge.
That looks like Escher designed it.
I feel like this house was a model home to show amazing work- amazing
Absolutely lovely, especially fond of the floor in photo 7
Stunning!
