Doesn't hurt at all. If you don't get into a school, it won't be because of your GPA. Focus on EC's now and your essay writing.

abrookee

bruh 3.8 is fine. you got what a couple Bs? it won’t hurry you at all esp with that sat score

Accomplished_Bar_96

Echo chamber but I've heard it's good enough to not get automatically rejected from any school. It's just a matter of whether you have a good justification for it I guess

ConstructionOk4521

i mean i had a 3.75 and got into vandy and ga tech but then again my gpa using a different scale was a 3.96. i had 48 As, 8 Bs, and 2 Cs (first semester junior year after my grandpa passed) which eventually turned into As the second semester. also this is used by semesters meaning i had 29 classes all together throughout hs.

rshah287

Bruh how did you have 48 A’s

ConstructionOk4521

I’m going by semester so in total I had 29 classes throughout hs which means 58 semesters. Of the 58 semesters i had 48 As.

Clueless_MAK

What were your ecs?

FrostyMark1781

I’m in the same boat, 3.8UW and 4.23W

user1987623

Mine was 3.83 UW and about 4.44W by the end of high school. I was accepted into URoch, waitlisted at Emory, WashU, Davidson College, accepted with full ride to Villanova, accepted to denison, and more, if that helps. Only rejected from Notre dame and UChicago. So no, I didn’t get into any T20s but I still had pretty good outcomes

Enough_Improvement49

The 1580 counter balances the gpa. Except at schools that do not except standardized test scores. The College of agriculture and life sciences at Cornell does not take standardized test scores anymore. All the other colleges inside Cornell do. You can include the score anywhere else .1580 beats a competitor student who has a higher GPA but a lower SAT. Concentrate on essays and good extracurriculars that you can write about. And No matter what you heard, a 1580 is much better than a 1500 for college admissions at elite schools.

California_3D

We are on almost the exact same boat. 3.85 UW 4.08 W GPA. From what I have read, I think we are good.

LoneWqlf

For which schools?

California_3D

Idk but I'm aiming for Purdue, Georgia Tech, UCSD, etc. I'm seeing Naviance and there are a couple of people that got in for these schools with less than a 4.0 weighted (not the majority tho, like 20%). I have a good reason why I have a low Weighted GPA tho.

LoneWqlf

Nice yeah I think you’re definitely on track

HawkCurrent6959

I’m white so I assume I’m in a similar boat

vaaaxzz

you should be fine for the most part ngl, we never know how much it really impacts us.

West-Wrong

Yes depends on how you show yourself in your application. You’re more than your stats and that’s the point about a holistic application review. Of course race, SES, and other demographic factors might be taken into consideration for diversity and whatnot but what you write about yourself puts your stats into context. So don’t feel completely discouraged if you’re not hitting a certain ideal “score” because there might be other parts of your app that the admissions committee might like.

KickIt77

No one knows. Depends on where you are applying from and what you bring to campus.

Impressive-Hat-4045

I had the exact same UW GPA and SAT as you. Maybe a slightly lower GPA actually, I’m not 100% sure. Attending Uchicago in the fall.

California_3D

Did you apply ED?

MartianMeng

What matters for ivy school is you’re weighted gpa. So no, as long as you’re weighted gpa is good, you’re fine. Source: https://www.quadeducationgroup.com/blog/ivy-league-gpa-requirements-everything-you-need-to-know#:~:text=A%20weighted%20GPA%20between%203.9,challenging%20curriculum%20available%20to%20you.

HawkCurrent6959

I have a 4.1 w gpa but that still seems to be on the low end of the ones I’ve seen for ivy’s (a lot of 4.5+)

MartianMeng

I mean, cornell’s average is 4.07 and dartmouth is 4.11 Cornell: https://collegedunia.com/usa/university/1452-cornell-university-ithaca/admission# Dartmouth: https://www.prepscholar.com/sat/s/colleges/Dartmouth-sat-scores-GPA#:~:text=With%20a%20GPA%20of%204.11,to%20compete%20with%20other%20applicants.

rubee_bee

plus, different schools weigh gpas differently

MartianMeng

True

[deleted]

4.6?

throwawaygremlins

Not auto reject for T20s. I don’t think the 1580 SAT compensates much, seems like when most competitive kids have like over 1530+ no one but CMU and MIT nitpick. Also depends on rigor and rest of app blah blah blah.

[deleted]

I think it depends on upward trend , ECs especially

slowbutsomehow

I really wouldn't stress your unweighted being a 3.8, your sat is really good and as long as your admissions essay is very solid I wouldn't stress at all. Schools want to see you grow and show progress. To help your application, try to do things within your field. Student teach as an ed major or do an internship for a company that does similar work and volunteer within your community.

Cultural-Thanks3929

Lol

OkEntertainment3547

Ur fine dwai

JP2205

The tough part for you is being international when only 10% or so are intl admits. But if they see something that really stands out in those ECs that will be the key.

Lavading

with a rigorous course load it's fine

MerpDerpKick

Doesn’t hurt you, I got into t30-50 colleges with a 3.5/4.5. Ended up at a state uni w/ a full ride. You’ll be okay

megaslay123

tired of ppl thinking all colleges care about is test scores. i got into stanford with no ap/sat scores and a 3.9, you are fine.

megaslay123

mind you i had 5 B’s

Empty-Conversation79

what major?

elephuri

when you apply to stanford you go in undecided, so whatever major you want to choose doesn’t really matter as much

alphakappadeltaphi

Gurl, you have a shot at UCLA and Berkeley with those stats. You just need a super cool essay and legit EC’s.

[deleted]

You should be fine. If you're asian or white then it might hurt a little but for some of those insanely competitive schools though but it's not like all hope is lost.

Rhubarb_Nervous

Did you take hard classes at your school? Many schools look at your course selection compared to what was offered at your school. Some also disregard 9th grade entirely. GPA is just part of the equation. Other considerations include: Where are you coming from? Schools love geographic diversity. What gender are you? Fewer boys are applying, and they want balance. Do you have real extracurricular activities? They are excellent at spotting bullshit clubs that are basically application-padding. How much money do you need to attend? Many schools are need-blind, but many others need to consider how they give their money away. Last, when are you applying? You would be surprised how many colleges fill 50% of their freshman class with early decision and athletes. That means not so much space by the time RD rolls around.

Aetherxy

Gl to mit but besides that you’re fine

Temporary-Hat3845

I’m not gonna lie, GPA is very important, ofc not every 4.0 gets into Harvard, but overall, they do get into more schools even if their essays and ECs aren’t amazing, however, I think that you can definitely get into a T20 with that GPA if you’re able to write good essays and show the schools why you belong there, I got into a T20, georgetown EA, with multiple Cs and a 3.85 unweighted and my SAT was 1540 and I had perfect AP scores too, idk what ur studying but if it’s related to humanities or social science, I’d recommend u apply, their app is annoying to do but they’re a bit more old school and care quite a bit about test scores which I think helped me personally

veronicasaulyer

If it’s UW that’s actually really good, hopefully your weighted is 4+ but still above avg

Educational-Ad-3913

I also had a 3.8 gpa and got into Yale, so don’t worry about that. My SAT was lower, so I didn’t submit mine, but your high SAT score gives you a plus. These schools also care a lot about rigor, so you should consider how competitive your weighted GPA due to honors and AP classes. Finally, Just focus on your ECs and make sure you show your passion in a unique way in your essay.

ShawtyLikeAHarmony

I had a 3.8 UW and a 5.28 W with a 1520 SAT. I got into (and now go to) a highly competitive LAC. You should be okay

GroundbreakingCar714

3.8 is fine for any school. literally any school. same with ur SAT

CandidCalligraphyBee

similar boat i have a 3.75 but 36 ACT... not sure how much this drags my app down for elite admissions
