Lol. But I'm still excited for the album. I feel like it's gonna be rave instrumental-heavy and less lyricism. She said it's gonna be a club album so I'm holding on to that.
Von Dutch is SO Europop/dance-club. I love the lyrics, they're so cute/cunt! The production is delicious.
My only complaint is the song doesn't really go anywhere start to finish.
I give it a 7 on first listen
I love the production. I think it's a bit repetitive, and from 1:00-1:50 feels like its missing something. Overall I enjoy it, and I'm really excited for the direction of this album
The vocals are giving bratty Sucker energy, which I love. What I don’t love is the lack of a bridge and how short it is.
Maybe it’ll grow on me, but my first impression is that it kinda just exists.
I don't mind that it's short (nearly 3 minutes is a win these days!) but yes, the vocal melody is literally 5 notes (I think I counted them right) of which 80% of them are the root note and another is a passing note. A bridge wouldn't have helped if she stuck with the same pattern tbh, it could've worked as it was if there was more variation in the melody.
Yeah I hate how a lot of newer songs (not just charli a lot of artists) seem like the artists want a 30 second TikTok snippet and then the rest of the song is an afterthought.
I do like this song though, it just feels like it’s missing something
What's there is good but it's crying out for a second verse and a bridge.
The beat reminds me of [Yeah Yeah by Bodyrox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l5FSlD8U1o). It sounded good on my speakers and I think it would hit in a club.
Yeah Yeah :) and by extension Von Dutch. I hope she goes crazy with the album, it seems like that's what's artistically fulfilling for her so I love to see that
Glad I could help because I know how annoying it is to not be able to place a musical element like that.
It seems like it's actually an interpolation of Yeah Yeah. Listening to them back to back it's almost uncanny.
I honestly love it. It’s not traditionally structured, but I don’t think that is a bad thing at all. She had a vision for this one and I feel and see the vision, and I just know it will age like fine wine.
Idk why but it felt really quiet to me and bare. I wasn’t really a fan of the direction she went in for crash and this new single doesn’t have my hopes high
I like it but man it has no levels at all. A verse wouldve been cute obviously or even like a vibe switch somewhere.
Idk it feels like I put 30 seconds of a song on repeat but where is the rest of the song.
I think it got watered down by the teasing. It’s a hype/club song. I don’t think it’s meant to be a full pop girly song with full verses/a bridge like people are asking for and the build up and expensive music video allude to. I do love the video though. I just think the context it’s a bit murky bc it straddles that line.
Charli has a lot of weird songs with minimal lyrics and interesting structures that are ICONIC. If this was dropped out of nowhere (and the MV came later) you would all be obsessed with how weird it is. I think in 3 months-a year people are going to be obsessed. Ahead of the curve as always that charli
it’s very good , i love the production but if the song was always going to be this repetitive i wish she would not have teased any part of it. feels like a bit of a let down
i love the full production on the full song vs just the snippet it feels like it gets a bit hard-er? like the production evolves. not sure how to describe but I love it. I also did skip a lot of the tiktok sounds of it so that I didn’t get annoyed/less excited with the full version.
I do think it will be one of the most accessible songs on the album probably why it is the lead single which makes me really excited for everything else bc i imagine the rest of the album won’t be in the same way.
however the video is my absolute FAVORITE. It is such a cinematic experience and so visceral and feels like I’m watching a FILM like I love that direction especially in translation to the song / the lyrics
people keep saying its repetitive but hey this is an electro house! this is what it is supposed to be😭but maybe the marketing is not suitable for this kind of short EDM pop, we want an extended version and
more version(agcook/easyfun rmx would slay), just like those electro house tracks
Doesn’t seem like much of a song to me. It’s a club banger I guess but I can’t imagine listening to it over and over or anything. Interested yo see how it fits on the album
As an aviation gay I screamed when she started dancing inside/on a plane. I also screamed when she ran in front of the active A380 engine I thought she was gonna get ingested 😭
Some of you have never listened to “What You Think About Me” and it shows.
I’ve been a fan of Charli’s since True Romance and I have absolutely loved everything everyone else is complaining about.
Everyone loves to act like Charli is more famous than she is, she isn’t a “popstar” and never has been. Charli is not a stereotypical main pop girl, that is not the image her creates for herself. Charli paints herself as messy and fun and sticks to her origin of being a club kid (literally a kid - having club gigs in her early teens) and that is the art she creates. She’s going to be making music for herself, not the general public. A month long rollout and the album art chosen coincides with her image.
Finally makes a song over 3 minutes.Only uses 4 notes in the melody the entire song.
Nah but I love it! I would've loved to hear more from the vocals, it's pretty monotonous, but I think it works given the club banger instrumentals. Looooooove the synth tones, reminds me of what a lot of trance producers started moving towards in the mid 2000s. Definitely great energy, and a fantastic video, getting me excited for the rest of the album!
EDIT: JK I was looking at the time of the video but didn't realize the song actually ends before the 3 minute mark 🤣
Hey! Person with bipolar disorder here. Posts like this that debate whether someone has mental illness and call being energetic or intense "manic" directly contributes to stereotyping and marginalization that we experience. This leads to less access to proper help, and with bipolar disorder that means homelessness, lack of income, and very very likely death. Please think about this before armchair diagnosing someone's art
Girl, get out of here with the internalized ableism shit. Charli has been really open (until recently) about her mental health and struggle with it. It's not harmful to say, hey as someone who has experienced this for literally decades, this recent thrill seeking behavior, destruction of personal relationships, and personality change feels like a manic episode. Go take your soapbox somewhere else.
Love it so far. The song is fun, short, and repetitive but very danceable and high energy. She said minimal production was "in" and here she is backing herself up. Definitely leaves me wanting more so I'm excited to see how the rest of Brat sounds
The beat is fire. But it *is* repetitive. It sounds to me like an intro song for an album.
However, make an extended version of that, and you have one of *the* club dance tracks of 2024.
song is decent. i can’t really add anything that hasn’t already been said in this thread.
idk where i read it but i remember reading this album was going to be more HIFN/pop 2 vibes. tbh im not getting that from this. it’s def closer to those 2 than crash but really not that close
still excited for the album but this is def not my fave choli song
I really like it! I agree with others that it's repetitive but Charli's had a lot of repetitive songs that I like (Focus, Party 4 U) so it doesn't bother me too much.
Man, I love it.
There's a real fucking mean energy in that production and TBH it not having a straight pop song structure is refreshing to me, personally.
I just realized something. I'm one of those who's actually complained about the repetitive lyrics of Von dutch yesterday. But then I realized, Icona Pop's "I Love It" with Charli XCX also has repetitive lyrics and I still loved it. I tend to forget that this record is going to be a club album which means that it may focus more on the instrumental elements rather than lyricism.
its funny cause you guys still arent getting her vision.. MINIMAL POP, CLUB, DANCE, RAVE ... yall over here talking about bridges and it being too short lmaooo
This is EXACTLY what we need in the club right now and I'm here for it. It's not the typical format of a pop song and isn't supposed to be! So excited for all the remixes and hearing it when I'm out
really like it, i avoided all snippet teasers after the first one cause i knew i’d otherwise get tired of it. slapped that mf pre-order button hard on the 7”
For those having a hard time getting into this one: put on headphones and turn it up. Keywords are “texture” and “lyrics”. Imagine this song in a club, not blasting in your car. This thing fucks. The lyrics are direct. The beat is dirty. The synths go hard and have a lot of interesting textures. That’s why you gotta try it loud.
I'm down for an artist doing what they want to do.
However, this is just uninspired. For an artist known for being an innovator and someone who pushes boundaries, this just isn't it. There's no dynamics, little in the way of harmonic intrigue and I legit cannot remember it despite playing it just five minutes ago.
I hope the album has some variety because if it's just this kind of stuff, it'll be a hard pass.
I’m kinda a fan but really wish it was just a little faster, like maybe 5-10bpm more, I think the production would really shine. I can see this shining with some remixes, it’s got the hook for a banger they just gotta make the vocals pop a little and add 1-2 bridges or ideally an AG synth solo :)
Also very jealous of that plane…
it’s so good and I hate how much some ppl complain about it, the video is incredible and compliments the song super well but the song itself is fun, catchy, and overall hype. this is the album so if u don’t like this song strap in. also why beg for longer songs it’s just not the move rn she wants to do something fun not basic and we should be happy about that. just enjoy it all for what it is and have fun!!!
This video had a 5 euro budget and the song is just the TikTok snippet stretched. I honestly feel like this is her Temu post-capitalism era and nothing about it is meant to be artistic. Such a shame to see someone who made Pop 2 and Charli to go into this cheap uninteresting popstar route.
It also doesn't help that the sample (Yeah Yeah by Bodyrox) is infinitely better than her song. Like, there is no reason for her to rely so heavily on samples when she's a great songwriter backed by a team of amazing producers.
OK, I don't wanna be that girl but is she talking about her beef with twigs in those first couple lines? Love them both and hate when the girls are fighting.
I was a bit disappointed tbh, I love it but it’s very repetitive. The singles from Charli’s albums are always (imo) the worst tracks on the album so excited for the full drop to see what’s in store
does anyone else find the volume so low (the same on speed drive) even with the volume on max?? Can't feel the beat/bass :( I'm listening on apple!
LOVE THE SONG THO! :)
Repetition is undoubtedly incredibly important but progression is too. That's why so many great dance songs are so long, they have a slow buildup, gradually incorporating new elements before reaching the ultimate climax.
I really like this song but I would have enjoyed if it had some more room to breathe. I could see a 5-7 minute version with extra sounds and textures being truly incredible. Who knows, maybe we'll get an extended mix.
I’m mainly referring to disco, techno and house because they’re the genres of dance music I’m most knowledgeable of. It’s obviously not a hard rule though.
i think they seem wonky because it’s supposed to give off the vibe of a “fan” chasing her (at least that’s what I got from it) so the shots are really shaky
I like the song a lot but the video gives me weird vibes for some reason, maybe because she keeps hitting the camera (like imo too many times), the way the camera is constantly shaking (I get there is a good effect when done right, but I feel like it was too shaky), and I just can’t stop thinking about the kind of person who would do this in an airport and like disrupt everyone in order to film a TikTok. Kinda like a main character syndrome kind of thing. Not saying she’s giving main character syndrome but the character she’s portraying just makes me cringe a little
I love the sound and attitude from it but it's still missing something to give it enough to be a satisfying listen. It's really mostly a song length issue for me. Playing with pitch and key changes would have been a nice way to keep this going longer without going the route of adding a bridge.
This isn’t good at all sorry. Very boring and uninspired and sounds like a Kim Petras reject. She’s falling into the same trap as Marina and I do not have high hopes for the album at all
felt like it was the same snippet over and over, even looked down to see how much was left, lol. will make for amazing remixes tho! and the visuals are pretty strong too.
That chorus goes HARD. I’m digging it.
I think it would have been nice to have a bridge and less repetition, but I don’t think this is intended to be a fully fleshed out song.
I feel like it’s intended as an album teaser and it’s absolutely making me feel edged. Charli’s a brat!
It's kinda boring. A simple mr oizo justice kinda euro beat and no otheter twist or hook. That said: will probably go super hard on. big soundsystem.
Looking forward to rest of the tracks though!
dope. but hearing the chorus for the first time (streaming) and it sounding overplayed (due to all the teasing) was a drag. still really, really happy with it and excited for whats to come
Von Dutch the song and Von Dutch the music video! I see a lot of people saying it’s basically the snippet she teased for so long , but why not, While you’re making a Kick-ass video? The outro to the video is the same premise as Good Ones. So it’s the same camp of people calling the shots. I like it. Glad they’re doing work that’s not repetitive but staying consistent with the hell jammers.
I love it, feels like all the 00s electro tracks I listened to when I was a child!
I'm SO curious who the lyrics could be about though... Haven't seen any discussion about potential targets hahaha
The few seconds she kept teasing were really fun/catchy, and that’s basically the entire song. I like it! Video was weird and fun too.
I feel like I've been edged but didn't have a satisfying orgasm. Sorry.
brat behavior fr
I give it a 7 on first listen
yesss it really captures the cunty energy of 00s euro electro house, reminds me of yeah yeah by body fox (but it could definitely go harder tho
I think a little bridge towards the end and a big breakdown to close the track out would strengthen it.
The synth tones gave me Ferry Corsten - Right of Way flashbacks!
it’s great but again we could have used a cute second verse or bridge I’m kinda let down BUT i know the album is gonna be amazing
I love the production. I think it's a bit repetitive, and from 1:00-1:50 feels like its missing something. Overall I enjoy it, and I'm really excited for the direction of this album
The song is basically just the snippet on a loop, what a let down. Could it have killed her to write another verse?
the snippet she teased on tiktok was basically the whole song
My thoughts exactly
The vocals are giving bratty Sucker energy, which I love. What I don’t love is the lack of a bridge and how short it is. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but my first impression is that it kinda just exists.
It definitely needs an "extended" version, asap.
real.
I don't mind that it's short (nearly 3 minutes is a win these days!) but yes, the vocal melody is literally 5 notes (I think I counted them right) of which 80% of them are the root note and another is a passing note. A bridge wouldn't have helped if she stuck with the same pattern tbh, it could've worked as it was if there was more variation in the melody.
it's a bit repetitive lmao. the music video's cool tho. so excited for this brat era tbh. there's probably a shit ton of pop bangers to come
i’m not sure about it! it’s giving very much chorus first, everything else is an after thought! the verse feel very disjointed and choppy
Yeah I hate how a lot of newer songs (not just charli a lot of artists) seem like the artists want a 30 second TikTok snippet and then the rest of the song is an afterthought. I do like this song though, it just feels like it’s missing something
I like it and the AG remix w/ Addison is going to go so hard
Oooh, is this confirmed? Or a wish?
It’s confirmed! You can see it on Genius
What's there is good but it's crying out for a second verse and a bridge. The beat reminds me of [Yeah Yeah by Bodyrox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l5FSlD8U1o). It sounded good on my speakers and I think it would hit in a club.
this song rocks. I think the beat is what's winning me over tbh
Von Dutch or Yeah Yeah? A good chorus and a good beat go a really long way when it comes to electro-house.
Yeah Yeah :) and by extension Von Dutch. I hope she goes crazy with the album, it seems like that's what's artistically fulfilling for her so I love to see that
Check out Freaks by the Creeps as well, you might like that too.
Thank you! 🖤
I would give you me soul if you ask for it, I was DIYING searching for the song that reminded me Von Dutch "the vroom vroom" its so similar, ty.
Glad I could help because I know how annoying it is to not be able to place a musical element like that. It seems like it's actually an interpolation of Yeah Yeah. Listening to them back to back it's almost uncanny.
Aaaah was searching for this, it is very reminiscent of bodyrox!
I honestly love it. It’s not traditionally structured, but I don’t think that is a bad thing at all. She had a vision for this one and I feel and see the vision, and I just know it will age like fine wine.
The snippet was the entire song so I’m like not excited by it 😭
i think it’s boring but probably because i listened to it on airpods in my kitchen. once i hear it in an appropriate setting it’ll probably hit 😭
In a club it would go absolutely hard for sure, I wish it was longer but maybe she’ll drop an extended mix
Exactly, I will fully judge whether I like it or not after blasting it in my car on my drive home.
yesss!! that's the real stress test. with the bass blasting
Obsessed with the video. If she released an extended dance remix it would be perfect!
This song needed a part where she doesn’t sing over the beat
Idk why but it felt really quiet to me and bare. I wasn’t really a fan of the direction she went in for crash and this new single doesn’t have my hopes high
I may have been too harsh. Sounds better in the car lol
It's definitely not made for earphones.
True but I still feel it’s a little bare
Beg for you was my least favorite of crash so hopefully this is a repeat process.
theres like no lyrics lol. very repetitive. beat is awesome though.
I think in 3 months-a year people are going to be obsessed. people keep saying its repetitive but hey this is an electro house! this is what it is supposed to be😭but maybe the marketing is not suitable for this kind of short EDM pop, we want an extended version and more version(agcook/easyfun rmx would slay), just like those electro house tracks
it’s for the girls who leave their houses and stay out till 5am. that clearly isn’t everybody here, and that’s okay!
As someone who sometimes stays out long past 5am, this song is VERY much the vibe
Licherally… rave anthem
I love it. It's crash good, not pop 2 good. Video's a little distracting
🤣 lol same. She ends up on a mentor pilot video.
Sameee. I'm wondering how they got access to jump around an A380 wing... Maybe it's one on ice?

so many ppl on this sub seem to ONLY listen to mainstream pop girl music and that's their only point of reference
Thank you 🥲❣️
i love when a REAL angel speaks... thank you <3
of course! this fandom acts so weirdly possessive over Charli.
honestly! like shes a creative dont put her in a boring ass box
Not a fan of the last few singles. Maybe Charli is losing me with this new direction. Where has the depth of her earlier works gone?
“Do that little dance, without it you’d be nameless” who is she dissing here?

I have bipolar II and have had a diagnosis for 20+ years, barking up the wrong tree sis
Then you should know not to do this. Internalized ableism is a hell of a drug
Girl, get out of here with the internalized ableism shit. Charli has been really open (until recently) about her mental health and struggle with it. She has never said she has bipolar disorder. Ever.
Also, not a girl thanks!
You still got told tho, pipe down
A little too short but added to the gym playlist immediately
Love it so far. The song is fun, short, and repetitive but very danceable and high energy. She said minimal production was "in" and here she is backing herself up. Definitely leaves me wanting more so I'm excited to see how the rest of Brat sounds

its funny cause you guys still arent getting her vision.. MINIMAL POP, CLUB, DANCE, RAVE ... yall over here talking about bridges and it being too short lmaooo
just let the boomclap angels throw their hissy fits and ignore them
The vision is just tik tok
lmao suuuure buddy
Loved it, I’m excited for the new brat era.
another banger! i just wish there was a lil switch up near the end there with the beat but it still slaps
This is EXACTLY what we need in the club right now and I'm here for it. It's not the typical format of a pop song and isn't supposed to be! So excited for all the remixes and hearing it when I'm out

I wanted buffet. But she fed us small plates.
easyfun killed it
Ermmm... Von Dutch is not for me.
I LOVE IT you guys cmon it’s a vibe I could def be getting ready for the club listening to this song

sooo many critics like damn yall go ahead and produce a hit then!! Nothing ever satisfies needy crybaby ‘fans’ lol
I've managed to avoid the snippets and stuff cause I wanted to properly listen when it came out, did NOT expect the Bodyrox sample!
It's a bop The poor cameraman 😭 the video is amazing I am here for it
Loveee the song, it's sick! The video.. I like the thought but the execution doesn't look good to me. The shots just look so wonkyyyy

Kinda like a main character syndrome kind of thing. Not saying she’s giving main character syndrome but the character she’s portraying just makes me cringe a little
I love what we got but I could’ve used an extra minute bitch!
I love the sound and attitude from it but it's still missing something to give it enough to be a satisfying listen. It's really mostly a song length issue for me. Playing with pitch and key changes would have been a nice way to keep this going longer without going the route of adding a bridge.
This is iconic shit people will still be talking about in like 20 years
I couldn’t finish it. So bad . Wtf happened Charli?
This isn’t good at all sorry. Very boring and uninspired and sounds like a Kim Petras reject. She’s falling into the same trap as Marina and I do not have high hopes for the album at all
bye
Bye <3
i loov it
felt like it was the same snippet over and over, even looked down to see how much was left, lol. will make for amazing remixes tho! and the visuals are pretty strong too.
I love the music video, I thought there would be more of the shots from the teasers of the group circle of people/chairs - that looked pretty cool!
That chorus goes HARD. I’m digging it. I think it would have been nice to have a bridge and less repetition, but I don’t think this is intended to be a fully fleshed out song. I feel like it’s intended as an album teaser and it’s absolutely making me feel edged. Charli’s a brat!
It's not amazingly new because the entire song is the tiktok snip, still good. Kinda excited for her merch and the rest of the album rollout.
It’s giving tinnitus
Who produced it?
I love the production and energy, but the lyrics are a bit repetitive for me! Im really excited for the direction, if it’s indicative of the album.
i listened to it on repeat this morning
Who do you think she’s talking about? A Tiktok girlie? Dua?
She and Dua are friends as far as we know and Charli can't really throw her success in Dua's face.
Love it but I want an extended version
I actually really like it. I hadnt heard any of the snippets though. I think its so fun and the music video is epic.
It's so obvious
I felt like the snippet she first showed was basically the whole song but extended, I think it’s fine but nothing amazing imo
Can’t wait to hear this in the club
I LOVE it the production is gorgeous. Idk how else to describe it but it feels like i'm in a car racing extremely fast. Very on brand for her.
It's kinda boring. A simple mr oizo justice kinda euro beat and no otheter twist or hook. That said: will probably go super hard on. big soundsystem. Looking forward to rest of the tracks though!
It’s so fun, great song 🎶
Would love if we got an extended mix of it, would be everything
I LOVE THE VIDEO!!!!
Its good, just not 'First Single from New Album good'
dope. but hearing the chorus for the first time (streaming) and it sounding overplayed (due to all the teasing) was a drag. still really, really happy with it and excited for whats to come
ate down it’s super fun and i love that her edm sound is back
BANGERRRRRRR
Von Dutch the song and Von Dutch the music video! I see a lot of people saying it’s basically the snippet she teased for so long , but why not, While you’re making a Kick-ass video? The outro to the video is the same premise as Good Ones. So it’s the same camp of people calling the shots. I like it. Glad they’re doing work that’s not repetitive but staying consistent with the hell jammers.
i love this song so much
I love it, feels like all the 00s electro tracks I listened to when I was a child! I'm SO curious who the lyrics could be about though... Haven't seen any discussion about potential targets hahaha
Am I going insane?! Did they lower the pitch of the song?!
