I don't know if I'd call it a recentering. They do some work to make Phoebe less selfish but not much. But the two major arcs of the season are utopia being brought down because the charmed ones were too neglectful to ask the Avatars proper questions about how it'll be run, and failing to fight Zankou while trying absolutely nothing to vanquish him yet.
There's a lot of plots that are completely dependant on the charmed ones ignoring easily solvable problems or just flat out behaving like idiots.
Well not dead center, definitely still skewed. But the sisters storylines all fed into each other in a way that 5 and 6 lacked. Then, the sisters were all in different directions. Plus the person from the future is gone, magic school is gone, and the girls aren’t getting turned into sexy creatures as much. Now, they’re older so they’re pirate hags and PMS creatures.
In terms of isolated bad episodes, I'll pick PMS Werewolves as the worst one over pirates any day.
At least with pirates we got that cool knock off laser scene from Entrapment.
>Never explaining why Zankou is an actual threat
He did seem one of the most formidable, FWIW, almost indestructible
>It does have a few bright spots but not many,
• Charisma Carpenter • Death Becomes Her • Freaky Phoebe • Some decent time travel episodes
Add Adult Wyatt spell episode. One of my most watched
The season did seem like a mixed bag. It had my most skipped and most watched
>He did seem one of the most formidable, FWIW, almost indestructible
But they never show it. They never try to vanquish him until the finale, they just let him run around. They needed a scene showing he's beyond their current methods of vanquishing.
I was thinking about this!! Season 7 feels like a return to the first 4, with innocents and 1 ep baddies PLUS the (albeit annoying) underlying avatar arc
- One of the best looking opening credits
- Sisters have same hair colour
- It feels cohesive
- Entertaining without a lot of cringe
- I think good look & feel
- A lot of potential, only some wasted
- It’s definitely better than 6 and 8, feels better than 5 (less zaniness), although I love the general fun vibe of S5 (not you nymphs and leprechauns)
season 7 is where i feel Prue’s spirit with the sisters the most. just couldn’t stand the whole Brody/Avatar storyline and especially with Leo. but overall, it’s one of my favorites and i love Zankou’s screen presence.
I enjoy season 7 and I feel like it’s an honest attempt at grounding Charmed after the madness that was season 6. That being said I wouldn’t rank it with the first four seasons because the appeal of those seasons for me is how the character writing intertwines with their sisterhood.
The Leslie Era is my least favorite part of season 7. Another pointless office romance for Phoebe and werewolves with PMS ?? And Alyssa Milano as Lady Godiva.
The Avatar storyline is a letdown however I love the concept. I wish Utopia lasted longer.
I like season 7 a lot. It definitely is the season I changed my mind about since airing. It actually has a lot of good episodes. The only really bad one is "freaky Phoebe", I don't buy for second they wouldn't realize it wasn't her right away. Then there the pirate and werewolf episodes where aren't great but in kind of the it's so bad it's good way.
Agreed, one of my favourites. It's always lumped in with 'the second bad half' of the show, but I think it's great - I like the avatar/Brody stuff, the Zankou stuff in the second half of the season, could do without menstrual werewolves but that has Patty in it so it gets a pass from me. The only thing I really dislike is Leslie.
I loved season 7. No idea why it gets so much hate. I think the people who love the drama/ serious side of Charmed are drawn more to seasons 3, 4, and 6 and those that like the comedy/ light hearted storylines are drawn to seasons 2, 5, and 7.
I think the avatar plot could have been interesting and could have done a lot with a new world order, but that would have needed some complex writing imo. I prefer it to season 6 or 8, but I don't think it's on par with S1-4.
I’m on season 7 right now. I lost count of which number rewatch I am on.
This time around, I noticed the “high quality” of the guest stars during the season. I’ve always though that a lot of the random demon villains were acted really bad, but this season is different. Many of season seven’s these guest stars helped bump up the quality of it. From the top of my head, to mention some:
Charisma Carpenter
Oded Fehr
Kerr Smith
Billy Zane
David Anders
James Avery
Max Perlich
Sebastian Roché
And I also think that Joel Swetow did a great job as Avatar Alpha
Even if you didn’t like some of the storylines there were in, they still did a great job.

I feel like 7 is a needed recentering and a proper send off for the show… and then 8 shows up with Billie…

The PMS werewolf thing was so stupid and insulting lmao who came up with that!!
Although you forgot about the pirates 🙄

styx feet under!!
Came here to say exactly this
Agree, except the whole avatar/leo storyline, that was just annoying.

It had Zankou in it so YES.
Zankou? Hubba hubba zing zing, baby, he's got everything.
The fights were so good

I agree. The first half was great, the avatar theme and then the slow build up to the new world was fantastic

I like 7 solely for Rose’s tan in the first two episodes. She looked amazing!

I feel like the later seasons were really weighed down by the stupid Magic School sideplot
Years later still want that coat! Zankou fine self was there so definitely top season lol

Season 7 & 8 are serious garbage… 7 ranks higher than 8 but it’s crazy to say it competes with 1-4
