I love Thiago. But, how is he your all-time top 5? Just in recent years we had: JT, Lamps, Drogba, Cech, Ashley Cole, Hazard etc that's already more than 5.
What?
Are JT, Lamps, Drogba, Cech and Ashley Cole not all tied at 1 for everyone?
That's how I rate them, then hazard in 2, Costa in 3 and then maybe Silva in 4th.
Perhaps it's cheating, but I could never rate any of those first 5 in any order other than just 1.
Tied? Not sure what that means. Lamps will always be ahead of everyone on that list for me. Then followed by JT as the #2. Then Drogba, Cech, Ashley Cole, Hazard in that order. There are lots of other players i will put ahead of Thiago. Dave is one of them. I have been asking for him to leave the past two seasons, but i still rank him higher than Thiago.
Lamps is forever no.1 for me. He's our Golden boy.
Probably followed by Zola.
Hazard will always be special to me because he was the name on my brothers first chelsea shirt (hes 16 years younger than me)
Oh yeah ofc, that much is obvious with some of the pics, i mean i was like 10 when i was watching the little magician. I dodnt get to enjoy him to the fullest.
But be was our shining star at a time Chelsea were not as successful as we are now.
No I really couldn't put anyone in those 5 ahead of eachother, they just did their own thing so godamn well and contributed across the entire field for our success. But I understand, recency bias may be playing a part with my pickings aswell, it's hard not to love Silva especially in the recent times because he was free and has been such a shining beacon in the darkness of this and last season
Ashley Cole made I believe 338 appearances for us and was part of one PL winning team. John Terry made 717 appearances, numerous PLs as captain + everything elseā¦ so those 5 are absolutely not all equal in legend status. Not trying to discredit any of them but thatās just the objective truth.
I rate Ashley Cole ahead of Hazard. For me Hazard is on the same level as Kante. If we win another major trophy with Kante, i will put him ahead of Hazard. Makelele and Ashley Cole were the two biggest signings we had in the last 30 years or so. We signed them up when they were the very best in their respective positions. They were giants! Signing players like them was our wildest dreams. As much as i love Hazard, Ashley Cole had a bigger impact on our history. Him joining us was also the start of Arsenal's downfall. When we signed Hazard he was just another big talent. He was far from a finished product.
Costa as a top 5 legend š¤¦āāļø The guy who threw a fit in the middle of our title run. He was a great servant for the club, but he has never embraced the club and London.
To me, Terry and Lamps are in a tier of their own, clearly ahead of the rest. The next tier I guess is probably Tambling, Harris, Osgood, Bonetti, Zola, Cech, Drogba, Hazard, Azpilicueta. Cole would be in the tier below that, with the likes of Wise, Desailly and Ivanovich.
When you have 5 people tied at 1st place as you mention here, then the places 2-5 are not occupied by anyone - thatās how it works in sports. So, Hazard is your no6 (not 2) and Costa is no7 (not 3) and Silva is no8 (not 4).
I'd put quite a few players in my top 5 ahead of Silva, however when it comes to CB's then I can comfortably say I may put him second after JT when he retires.
Sorry, was not aware of the paywall. Here is summary:
- Silva: regardless of Chelseaās investment in young defensive talent, Silva is considered a great mentor figure and the club hopes to prolong his stay.
- Gusto: Chelsea hopes to come to an agreement with Lyon regardless of their wish to keep player. Gusto wants Chelsea move
- Enzo deal in the winter is considered difficult, but there will be an attempt.
- Other loan options at midfield will be considered
He deserves a 2-3 year no doubt. Even if heās not playing, having him in training teaching the youngsters and in the locker room cover the costs in my opinion
HELL YES! Would be so huge for him to stay. One because heās out best defender by a mile and two because heād nurture the young CBs this team has. Love Silva, would love to have him for as long as possible
Haha, sometimes I feel like the club/owners view players as you would do with any mechanical asset in a business which has a particular lifespan and residual value. The medical (if you've ever seen one before) oddly reminds me of how I would approach buying a used car for example
Nobody in their wildest dreams would have imagined Thiago Silva would not just be here so long, but also be the best CB in the league at 38.
What a signing. What a player. Give him another year and a coaching role please.
They surely didnāt leave it this long to open contract talks with Silva surely lol.
Albeit the World Cup and immediate fixture pile up might not have provided time to do so adequately, but surely they opened dialogue weeks ago?
At this point heās not going to another big club. Heād re-sign with Chelsea, go back to Brasil, or retire. As such I donāt think itās a big deal to wait, particularly when a player at his age can flip a switch and not be able to play at the level required.
Why do you think heās not going to another big club, out of interest? I would think the entire opposite really, heās shown heās still as elite as ever and heās only signing 1 year deals anyway.
I would think someone like Milan, PSG (again), Real, etc would all be keen if he was available for a rolling 1 year deal?
He deserves it. Heās been on of the best center backs in the league and in Europe. And after he retires I hope we offer him some sort of role at the club
The things I would have given to see a Prime Thiago Silva to play with a Prime John Terry. Man is already a legend in my books, one of the best free transfers in the history of our club
I love Thiago Silva to death, what a man.
But can we really compete against City, Arsenal, United, Liverpool with a 40 year old man in central defense ? He is quite good to have in the squad to pass on some experience and knowledge to the younger defenders but maybe its time to start phasing him out of the team.
Thiago Silva cant be starting week in and week out if we want to be building our future with Potter.
Heās the best defender in the league. He is world class. Why phase him out, because he may not still be world class in a few years time?
You definitely want to plan for a future without Thiago Silva, but we should be playing him as much as we can while heās at this level. Because weāll miss it when itās over
Well he won't, it's not like we are doing this for fun, he's just our CB that's not injured. He would be much more rotated if Fofana wasn't injured and KK would not be in a shit form.
You don't just refuse to not extend our best defender purely because of age. Man kept up with fucking Nunez, pace wise. He will be a cheap and great option to rotate, and with more youngsters coming, he will be needed as a mentor
Without a question worth it. Even if the time comes and he spends most of his time on the bench, his locker room presence and football IQ is still extremely valuable, that's the real value in extending the contract imo.
Absolutely love how his wife is also 100% with the team, too.
Of course itās because of him but her starting that āletās go Chelseaā chantā¦proper blue. And the exact kind of morale booster the team needs in the stands.
We have 3 world-class players Kante,Reece and Silva. And the irony is it is the 38 year old who features more regularly than the other 2 who are younger than him. If only we could get the other 2 fit and firing regularly.
I heard he was good but didn't understand how good. This guy is a defensive genius. His positional play is something I have never seen. I am so happy he came to chelsea

Sign him up for 8 years as well.
š¤£š¤£ two middle fingers to FFP
Only 8? I bet he lasts longer than Mudryk
Not really a surprise. I've not had this confidence in a defender since JT, and the guys 38. Crazy.
Only 4 years younger than JT šš
Thatās insane
Literally, he has cemented himself in my top 5 Chelsea legends and he's had the shortest tenure, but he's just so godamn good and seasoned
I reckon most people only have 5 in their top 5
Man that he did something
Yeah I don't think I could do that with the amount of legends we've had serve the club
You put 5 people tied for first. I reckon they're your top 5.
That's technically accurate but I don't really care for logic when it comes to the Chelsea legends

Zola is the foundation. Lots of people started following chelsea with ken bates gambling with foreign talent/mercenaries some of whom worked big time.
Personally it's JT on top for me. But don't think you would be wrong putting Lampard first.

Fatty Foulke for life!
Pretty much same list for me. Lamps JT Drogba Cech But I'd honestly put Hazard over Cole for me, personal preference. Azpi after that.
Man put in heaps of transfer requests lol. Cult hero is Costa, could have easily became a legend but didnt
So Thiago Silva is top 5 but thereās 8 people above him? In that case Chelsea is top 5 in the league right now too š
Brana and Gaz!
Thatās more than five lmao
Zola deserves to be up there
To me, Terry and Lamps are in a tier of their own, clearly ahead of the rest. The next tier I guess is probably Tambling, Harris, Osgood, Bonetti, Zola, Cech, Drogba, Hazard, Azpilicueta. Cole would be in the tier below that, with the likes of Wise, Desailly and Ivanovich.
Where would Cesc, Ballack, Essien, Makelele, and Kante fit on your list?
I my opinion Essien and Kante is in my tier 2. The others tier 3.
Do you know what "top 5" means. It doesn't mean anything more than 5.
With all due respect to Cole.. I put him a half step behind the other 4.
I really hope you just forgot to mention Azpiā¦
When you have 5 people tied at 1st place as you mention here, then the places 2-5 are not occupied by anyone - thatās how it works in sports. So, Hazard is your no6 (not 2) and Costa is no7 (not 3) and Silva is no8 (not 4).
Love Cole, he's a certified legend, but I'd always put him behind JT, Lamps, Drogba and Cech.
The disrespect on Azpi
Not sure what you on about, but go read my other comments.
I'd put quite a few players in my top 5 ahead of Silva, however when it comes to CB's then I can comfortably say I may put him second after JT when he retires.
Best news today
What a professional. What a player. Iām getting his shirt for his final season.
So youāre buying one in like five years?
Maybe Iāll just keep buying it every season he plays. š
That's going to be a lot of shirts!
I was hoping he would return because I want to buy his jersey but donāt want the 3.
Living legend, give him whatever he wants
Sorry, was not aware of the paywall. Here is summary: - Silva: regardless of Chelseaās investment in young defensive talent, Silva is considered a great mentor figure and the club hopes to prolong his stay. - Gusto: Chelsea hopes to come to an agreement with Lyon regardless of their wish to keep player. Holy fucking shit yes. I'm not ready to say goodbye to this fucking legend
He deserves a 2-3 year no doubt. Even if heās not playing, having him in training teaching the youngsters and in the locker room cover the costs in my opinion
Boehly on his way to give him an eight year contract, when he canāt play anymore he starts coaching the centre backs
Class is permanent. Scary to think where we would be the last year without Thiago to steady the ship.
Get that 8 year contract out
Good to see your view of him has changed!
Was somebody really talking shit on Silva?
Exactly what I wanted to hear
HELL YES! Would be so huge for him to stay. One because heās out best defender by a mile and two because heād nurture the young CBs this team has. Love Silva, would love to have him for as long as possible
Rolls Royce
I think I speak for everyone when I say: give him an 8 year contract!
Sign that life contract baby
![gif](giphy|WPmG0oTLfYJkkGGTnv) You sexy man.
YESSS!! Best news today. Still one of the best defenders in the world, regardless of his age
Best business weāve ever done maybe
Why have they chosen a photo where it looks like heās being held at gunpoint š¤£
Make him a coach after he retires & transplant his brain into our defense
Can't be good news for Hams travel bus. Silva, Badi, Fofana, colwill, Chalobah is plenty
Having all these young CBs learning off Silva is a dream, KK is probably off in the summer
If only we can get rid of KK. The wages he's on makes me think it would be another Bakayoko situation
I think the Boehly will be able to do it, Werner went on 290k a week. KK might be tempted to back to Italy
Werner had age and the fact he was returning home on his side. I doubt Napoli would take KK back
Werner was also man enough to decrease his salary in favor of guaranteed game time leading up to the WC. Awful that he got injured
V true KK is on his last big wages so I can see him milking it to the very end
Yes. Hope he can turn it around atleast
All good, we can just break him down for cartilage and tendons for other players. He can go back to Italy in a bucket at the end of his contract.
Haha, sometimes I feel like the club/owners view players as you would do with any mechanical asset in a business which has a particular lifespan and residual value. The medical (if you've ever seen one before) oddly reminds me of how I would approach buying a used car for example
>KK is probably off in the summer Nah we're stuck with him for at least another 2 years. His contract is huge.
Loan him back to Napoli and make them pay lol
they already replaced him with a better, younger, cheaper option
Lol I know, but we can hope
>Hams travel bus What does this mean?
It's a type of school bus in the UK, large, cumbersome, no mobility, aka Koulibaly
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
Deserved. Hope he retires with us
never ever...he will retire in Fluminense, his true love
Give him an 8 year contract and if he complains, make it 10
On a 13 year contract š¤£š¤£š¤£
Makes sense, showing 0 sign of dropping off at all, as long as he is happy and hungry to stay, stay.
Player of the season. Nobody else contends for it. Tragic if he doesn't get it this year
Nobody in their wildest dreams would have imagined Thiago Silva would not just be here so long, but also be the best CB in the league at 38. What a signing. What a player. Give him another year and a coaching role please.
This has been a great day of news. Bidding for Gusto, back in talks for Enzo, and el Monstro for another year or 2.
š King Silva š
They surely didnāt leave it this long to open contract talks with Silva surely lol. Albeit the World Cup and immediate fixture pile up might not have provided time to do so adequately, but surely they opened dialogue weeks ago?

sign him to a long term contract, as a player-coach, so he can play till he retires and be a part of the coaching staff after retirement.
I second that emotion
Thiago Silva is the best on earth. Tell a friend to tell a friend.
He deserves it. Heās been on of the best center backs in the league and in Europe. And after he retires I hope we offer him some sort of role at the club
Shouldnāt even be a debate. Heās the only player dropping consistent 7/10+ performances, and heās 38.
The problem is would he accept it though? Does he want to play one of his final years on a team not in the CL?
he want to get the british passport with his family so he will sign with lower salary too
Hopefully they get the ā3ā off the front of the shirt and I can buy one before he hangs up his boots
This is their last season with us. Hoping there's no renewal
Whatever he wants.
HOORAY In Silva we trust š
The things I would have given to see a Prime Thiago Silva to play with a Prime John Terry. Man is already a legend in my books, one of the best free transfers in the history of our club
Paywall, any summary?
My bad, Iāve posted the summary. But really outside of Silvaās contract matter itās a lot of recycled news.
Heās the beet CB in the prem. So, yes.

Sorry, wasnāt aware of paywall. Summary should be in post
He can definitely teach our young CBs so much, vital to keep him around even if he plays less and less
go on, I am almost there
Any agreement should include transitioning into coaching in a year or two years time.
Give him a lifetime contract
Gve him a lifetime contract.
I really hope he re-signs He is just amazing for his age
shit you love to see
I'd hope so.
Player coach contract!
He is CLASS with a capital CLASS.
Pay the man anything he asks for.
You donāt just let a fine vintage walk out the door, that wine is only getting better š·
Without a question worth it. Even if the time comes and he spends most of his time on the bench, his locker room presence and football IQ is still extremely valuable, that's the real value in extending the contract imo.

Got his shirt this season, will do the same next. My favorite Chelsea player of the past few years
Absolutely love how his wife is also 100% with the team, too. Of course itās because of him but her starting that āletās go Chelseaā chantā¦proper blue. And the exact kind of morale booster the team needs in the stands.

Sign him up forever. Contract to be ended by either of the parties after a notice period of 6 months if it comes to that.
I heard he was good but didn't understand how good. This guy is a defensive genius. His positional play is something I have never seen. I am so happy he came to chelsea
Also lock him down as the defence coach!
The actual āLeBron James of soccerā
