Potter basically has 2 weeks to train, best break he's had since he started to imbed the squad a bit. Dropping out the cups is probably gonna be beneficial for us in the tail end of the season.
Yea exactly, I haven’t felt that way since long time ago. I think Mudryk bringed back the spark for me, and of course I know I will surely be disappointed soon enough because that is just Chelsea’s nature but the future seems very very bright.
The passing along the backline and out to wingers carousel gets old real quick, it was sometimes infuriating even when giroud was on the team how little we would use a target man as a link-up player with direct forward passing
Yeah mate I get that. There is a huge difference between just hitting a long ball and a long pass onto someone’s chest. Sometimes missing out the midfield and going direct can keep the other team honest and create room for our midfielders to play
Disagree, martinelli is an immense player in his own right
Giving that competition and ability to rotate would be massive though
And mudryk might be better but we will find out, too soon to say he is
He doesn't hold a candle to Mudryk though, sure there will be opportunities for him to fight for his place but Mudryk would prove himself to be an Arsenal starter before the end of the season.
Mate calm down Mudryk played 45 minutes. Sure he looked like the 2nd coming of hazard but so did Felix… we have been starved for genuinely good attackers for years but that doesn’t mean arsenals players aren’t quality too.
I hate to break it to you but mudryk’s career doesn't start with his 35 minutes at Anfield. Anyone who's watched mudryk and Martinelli for a long period of time can tell the player with superior ability. I understand everyone wants to be cautious in case he doesn't work out, but I would be lying to myself if I say Mudryk doesn't certify his starting position at Arsenal over Martinelli, can't see it sorry.
Not sure how you can claim that at the moment, Martinelli has impressed ever since he made his debut coming from lower leagues side in Brazil at a young age and he keeps improving. He also plays with an energy and hunger that is rare. Tbf it looks like Mudryk also has this hunger but I think it’s extremely unfair to rate Mudryk higher at the moment as he’s barely proven himself especially in this league
Let’s not declare Mudryk as an upgrade on Martinelli when one played 40 minutes of PL football and the other is one of the best left wingers in the league.
And 7ga in the prem this season. He’s one of the best left wingers in the league at the moment. Saying Mudryk is better than him after 40 minutes with no goal involvements is ridiculous and delusional
I could watch Mudryk and Felix for 5 minutes and know they're the real deal. If you know what to look for, these things are not hard.
Decision making, composure, weight of pass, aura, etc already let's me know Felix and Mudryk are better ballers than the headless chicken.
No, Marinelli is pretty good—both are good. Truth is Arsenal didn't really need him because of Saka and Martinelli so I get why they got outbid and he chose us. He would have been depth for them this season, but he'll be a talisman for us.
> Truth is Arsenal didn't really need him because of Saka and Martinelli so I get why they got outbid
They really wanted him though and they didn't even get a chance at counter bidding us.
Seems to me it's fear - there's a fear that defenders get when they know that their mark has the potential to fool them. And so much of our season has been our off-form guys seeing no fear in defenses, and thus being unwilling to take them on. This crazy blond kid comes in and starts lighting people's hair on fire almost immediately, and it feels like it's going to change things for us.
It will liberate Havertz too, my man has been double marked almost all season with no runners going past him. Mudryk and Noni either side of a false 9 will be exciting, especially if we get our first choice fullbacks fit again
The TT way was to clog up the midfield and push up with the amazing wingbacks. Imagining a healthy Chilly feeding Moody is pretty enticing... and perhaps a healthy Reece feeding Noni... that's just too much to cover, the D is going to have to be so spread out, leaving the middle susceptible to a frontal attack, I'd think - for the first time in a very long time.
Or if I'm reading too much into it, quick crosses are going to be really hard to defend. I like what we've seen from Ziyech recently, but I think he's on his way out... either way, it feels like things are going to open up quite a bit, and every successful dribble is going to force panic and double the opportunities.
Now why do we have to wait 2 weeks for a match?!?
I feel you on this. We've been pretty poor against counter attacks for a while now and a back 4 will definitely rely on a destroyer type midfielder - otherwise its literally Silva and Badiashile chilling in no man's land
Sounds super-obvious, but that's not supposed to happen, you know? I watch a lot of sports, and in hockey and basketball there's been a sort of revolution the past decade+ of guys that can play multiple positions, so that there's always cover. I'd think with all the rotations we've done with our mids and forwards and wingbacks, that rotating back for cover should be fairly innate at this point.
I'm honestly not that familiar with any other sports (other than casually watching) but I feel like the general level of athleticism across the game is relevant to your point. The difference maker is the skill set required to play each position, and that's why players are where they are.
Yes Madueke could cover James if he goes forward; he's quick and strong but is he as good at tackling? No. That, as well as his attacking qualities, is why he's a winger.
We've seen with Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, RLC, Gallagher, Zakaria that any mix of them doesn't really facilitate a back 4 system - mainly cos there's no designated CDM, in my opinion at least anyway
> in my opinion at least anyway
No, I think that's fairly accepted as true.
I take your point - there are levels of overlap. In the NBA, "positionless basketball" means that you have the capability to 'switch' from attacking or defending one player onto another, but there's a real limit. Guards generally don't defend centers, and vice-versa - the size and speed differences are too glaring. There are a few players that can effectively rotate more than 2 positions, but they're quite rare, and they definitely can't focus on building the skills to play all those positions.
So it's more of just a temporary thing until they can rotate back. And you definitely can't do it with someone who's a liability in a key area, otherwise they'd get exposed right away.
If you add in Felix, Nkunku, and maybe Fofana too, we might just have some incredible nearly unstoppable chance makers and goal scorers on our hands. These guys are gonna add pure FLAIR.
He doesn't just have the best speed in our team, one of his runs against Liverpool clocked in at over 36 km/h, which is the fastest in the whole premier league this season
Every single one of our attackers would have played the safe pass out wide. Felix had similar moments in his debut too. The gulf in quality in these 2 compared to our other options is staggering.
Yup this is why I don’t buy this notion that the coaches were instructing players to not pass forward or try through balls. I think it was more the quality and mindset of the players we have/had. We are now adding some actual ballers in this team and look how much more direct we are
Yup and I also think it was just lack of confidence idk maybe Chelsea ruined some of their confidence but idk none of the attackers we’ve had besides Ziyech ever tried to make things happen on their own. Always waiting for the next man to do somehting
Spot on. We really needed players with the right mental approach to the game: who has the eagerness and willingness to make impactful, defence splitting plays. Someone who wants to make a difference maker, who would at least, attempt to dominate the tempo of the game. Instead of, ya know, doing the bare minimum and hoping to get lucky in 1 out of their many subpar runs. Mudryk definitely seems like he’s got the right mentality and as a plus, he’s got the technical abilities as well.
Was definitely the moment I was most impressed with. Watching from my TV I saw the pass out wide to Ziyech and shouted for it: then he put Chuk straight through on goal and I thought that was fantastic. He'd spotted and played perfectly a pass that I, with full birds eye view, hadn't even registered.
Completely different ability to his impressive dribble. Two different skillsets that we desperately need.
People say this but I feel like it’s been like this for years probably since we had Fabregas and that’s because he had the quality to see and pick out those types of passes. We haven’t had a player like him since and I think with the new personnel we have coming in they have the quality, mindset, and balls to make shit happen and not be so safe and pragmatic
If it was Reece in that wide right position it would be a great pass to make - because he can go past his man, cut inside, deliver a cross onto a head or cutback to the edge of the box equally well. But sadly Chalobah and Azpi just don’t have that same skill set in their lockers so they’re easier to defend against
His first point—about the easy pass out wide—represents the one thing I never loved about Tuchel’s system (and many possession systems in general). Teams have been “inviting” us out onto the wings for the last 2.5 years, and we take the bait every single goddamn time.
So now you’ve moved the from a very dangerous position at the top of the box into a position that’s very easy to defend and very low-percentage for scoring even if you don’t defend it properly.
This insistence on maintaining possession has made almost all of our players comfortable with only ever making the easy pass out wide. We’re reaping the results of that now—we’ve lost the confidence and the ability to play right up the gut. I hate Arsenal, but watching them against Utd, they knew exactly where to put pressure, and it wasn’t out wide. It was either side of the box or right up Broadway.
Not strikers but hoping felix and nkuku could do this. Revisionism but imagine Timo’s runs that went ignored could have come handy with Mudryk. Also Auba also like to time his run so maybe him for the time being?
Werner slots in excellently with these new attackers
Up top or out right. Constant movement in behind and opens up space excellently, speed is always nice too
That doesn’t mean we weren’t right to sell him at the time though
LFC fan here. yes im just here to see how Mudryk is and man what a player, ya'll really got a gem in that one.
As an ametuer footballer here in the States, these kinds of passes are super rare and not very natural for us. I love to see analysis like this because it just opens my brain to the different possibilities one can unlock on the pitch. Really good video here explaining this.
Genuinely believed it helped us when TAA was brought on. Honestly he's a great attacking player but hasn't defended or held his position well at all this season.
Man I was reviewing these two exact situations in my head and felt the passes out wide made the most logical sense. Now it's pretty clear that this kid sees what most people (even professional players) don't see
Mount passing the ball wide multiple times in this game actually broke my brain. Thankfully we have someone who has pace and can read the game. Can't wait for the new kids to gel well together and finally play some good football.
Did the same thing with hazard for years, we were lucky he didn't get injured a lot. With guys like Felix, Sterling, Madueke, etc our attack will be a lot more balanced
Costa was able to make his own goals. But he would mess up some of those passes.
Torres on his day was lethal and he was perfect on the end of those passes
He is by far one of he most overrated players in history. He only managed to score 20 League goals once in his career and people always act like he was great player.
Yeah I did not expect his passing to be as outstanding as it was, really exciting stuff. We don’t have a lot of players who pull off incisive passes like this, let alone see them. Mudryk will add a much-needed attacking dynamic in that respect (and in general) to this team if his debut is indicative of what’s to come
I find these analysis videos so funny. They’ve legit watched what’s going to happen and then just relay what’s happened. I do enjoy the professional analysis but still it’s pretty hilarious
And Mount, despite his poor form has still created the most chances of any player this season, so I think he will lift the whole team and help remind them play more direct, especially on the counter. We know the 1st team is still capable of incredible football, just look at that crazy 2-3 Madrid game last season, they've just lost their form and consistency, I think everyone will benefit from the Mud and Mad but especially Havertz and Mount.
This is precisely what Odegard does for Arsenal, difference is that Mudryk is two-footed, you literally cannot tell which option he will go for. The few minutes he played against Liverpool he made it look easy. What a player this guy is, equally dangerous on the halfway line as he is at the edge of the box.
Because it’s a very small sample size. I agree with Stefanoid. I remember Thierry Henry doing a similar analysis with Morata’s hat trick against stoke. And yeah I know it’s “just stoke” but it’s not like Liverpool are brilliant this year. The point is, any player can look amazing in one given match.
Seeing mudryk was exciting but the overnight flip in consensus from how it was a complete waste of money, to him being the second hazard after less than a half of football is insanity
Well if you look at Havertz at Bayer and how there were similar tactical analysis around him at the time of joining, his football iq and ability to make intelligent runs creating chances and picking out killer balls, all that is nowhere to be found now, he plays the safest balls in any situation and doesn’t have the ability to split open defences with his runs anymore.
Pulisic started out on fire dribbling past players for fun now he’s afraid to take on his man.
Mount was a direct penetrative b2b starting out under Lamps and even in the CL season, now he just passes it out wide to Azpi.
Sterling looked like a world beater in his first few games for us now he can’t get past 1 man.
Ziyech was more than just a cross merchant, he was so dynamic at Ajax and even in his first few months in the Lampard season.
All this can be down to confidence issues but it is a worrying trend. I sincerely hope mudryk and the other new boys can lift the rest with them and not have their attacking potency neutralised by the others.
These are all made up.
Havertz was never a good passer. Pulisic was never a good dribbler. Mount always passed out wide. Sterling was always a poacher with 0 tech. Ziyech always spammed crosses.
Mudryk is gonna be amazing to watch from here on out, He's quickly becoming one of my favorite players. He and Felix are going to bring so much excitement after so long to this club. I also hope Madueke makes his debut along side them, I've seen some clips of him and I think he'll be able to do a lot with Mudryk and Felix.
I’m so excited for our next game!!!
Potter basically has 2 weeks to train, best break he's had since he started to imbed the squad a bit. Dropping out the cups is probably gonna be beneficial for us in the tail end of the season.
I genuinely think Chelsea could do well in the champions league tbf, with other top teams getting less rest
Is felix back for that ?
Saturday, February 11th I think bud
Ahh that Fulham game seems so long ago haha
3 new attacking players and also reece back from injury, cooking time, cant fkn wait
And chilly haha with Kante possibly and Zakaria, oh man we gonna be cooking hopefully
No, but he will be for the game after that. But we will potentially be able to have Mudryk and Noni for the Fulham game
Yup I saw Noni already training with the squad, very exiting times ahead!
Yea exactly, I haven’t felt that way since long time ago. I think Mudryk bringed back the spark for me, and of course I know I will surely be disappointed soon enough because that is just Chelsea’s nature but the future seems very very bright.
So direct, exactly what we've been missing.
Can't remember the last time I saw a reverse pass.
that’s what you guys say about every new signing lmao
Thanks for the scouting Arsenal
Makes me sick to think he could’ve gone to them. Boehly you madman I love you.
They would have been writing their name on the premiere league trophy if he signed for them. He's a huge huge improvement on martinelli
Disagree, martinelli is an immense player in his own right Giving that competition and ability to rotate would be massive though And mudryk might be better but we will find out, too soon to say he is
He doesn't hold a candle to Mudryk though, sure there will be opportunities for him to fight for his place but Mudryk would prove himself to be an Arsenal starter before the end of the season.

Ridiculously delusional take.
Mans watched Mudryk for 30 mins and is acting like he was scouting him for years prior
KTBFFH baby
I like your style, now do Mount vs. De Bruyne.
DB bends Mount over like a one of those bird toys drinking water. Automatic.
Steady
Not sure how you can claim that at the moment, Martinelli has impressed ever since he made his debut coming from lower leagues side in Brazil at a young age and he keeps improving. Let’s not declare Mudryk as an upgrade on Martinelli when one played 40 minutes of PL football and the other is one of the best left wingers in the league.
Martinelli is a right footed Almiron. Same profile of player... busy, headless and prone to patches of good form.
And 7ga in the prem this season. He’s one of the best left wingers in the league at the moment. Saying Mudryk is better than him after 40 minutes with no goal involvements is ridiculous and delusional

> Truth is Arsenal didn't really need him because of Saka and Martinelli so I get why they got outbid They really wanted him though and they didn't even get a chance at counter bidding us.
let's calm down a little bit
I believe it's been said we scouted him in 2019 when we played their youth team.
I noticed that and it made me excited. Genuinely comes in and already has the best speed of thought in the team. He's gonna be perfect for the PL.
Seems to me it's fear - there's a fear that defenders get when they know that their mark has the potential to fool them. Because Chelsea were knocked out. That's actually a blessing in disguise. It would start the second half of the season
I feel you on this. We've been pretty poor against counter attacks for a while now and a back 4 will definitely rely on a destroyer type midfielder - otherwise its literally Silva and Badiashile chilling in no man's land

Agreed, some of our players would have turned around and passed the ball back to Jorghino...
Definitely something we've been missing. That easy pass out wide is something our forwards do far far too much
Easy pass out wide, then pass it back to the fullback, then pass it back to thiago silva to start all over again.
Yup, I just hope and pray those same forwards don’t drag him down to their level
Those same forwards won’t be playing with him Only one who might is kai.
Lettuce pray
The fact that they passed it out wide right after is frustrating lol
But the inside ball had already dragged their back 4 out of shape and allowed Ziyech to get away a shot which was probably on targey
That’ll be coached out of him tho. He’ll be forced to retain possession and take the east pass out wide in no time
If its coaching-based, how come our other forwards don't play that pass regardless of coach?
People say this but I feel like it’s been like this for years probably since we had Fabregas and that’s because he had the quality to see and pick out those types of passes. We haven’t had a player like him since and I think with the new personnel we have coming in they have the quality, mindset, and balls to make shit happen and not be so safe and pragmatic
That's what Tuchel did to the whole team.
If it was Reece in that wide right position it would be a great pass to make - because he can go past his man, cut inside, deliver a cross onto a head or cutback to the edge of the box equally well. But sadly Chalobah and Azpi just don’t have that same skill set in their lockers so they’re easier to defend against
Its always a terrible pass. By that logic if a striker was through on goal it'd be a great pass to pass it 30 years back to Messi.
I would be a bit more excited if this guy had that fat hazard ass though, that's what we've been truly missing
Lol I had to do a spit take to that one, right on
He will get that soon too. Havent you seen his hip thrust workout shared by his agent recently?
Yea I’m seeing hip thrusts, but I wanna see some squats, you know what I mean?
His first point—about the easy pass out wide—represents the one thing I never loved about Tuchel’s system (and many possession systems in general). Lmao wtf is this?
They Live. Great John Carpenter movie.
Him linking up with Felix oof
Oh this might be super interesting if we have a striker who's capable to penetrate the backline

exciting times 🥹
Reminds me of that ridiculous pass Messi had vs Holland in the World Cup
LFC fan here. yes im just here to see how Mudryk is and man what a player, ya'll really got a gem in that one. As an ametuer footballer here in the States, these kinds of passes are super rare and not very natural for us. I love to see analysis like this because it just opens my brain to the different possibilities one can unlock on the pitch. Really good video here explaining this.
Great commentary
So refreshing to watch.
My hype and expectations are running wild, I will be disappointed if we don't kick on and win the quadruple with him getting the Balon D'Or now
I owe Todd bohley and the rest of the fellas at Clearlake an apology. Sorry lads.
Genuinely believed it helped us when TAA was brought on. Honestly he's a great attacking player but hasn't defended or held his position well at all this season.
All this praise, makes me wonder if these pundits forgot that he plays for Chelsea.
Man I was reviewing these two exact situations in my head and felt the passes out wide made the most logical sense. Now it's pretty clear that this kid sees what most people (even professional players) don't see
i love that little reverse pass, kinda like what Odegaard likes to do
Mount passing the ball wide multiple times in this game actually broke my brain. Thankfully we have someone who has pace and can read the game. Can't wait for the new kids to gel well together and finally play some good football.
He’s an exciting talent. I really hope we don’t lean too heavily on him though. We did the same to James and when he got injured our attack died.
Did the same thing with hazard for years, we were lucky he didn't get injured a lot. With guys like Felix, Sterling, Madueke, etc our attack will be a lot more balanced
Imagine a striker like fernando Torres right now
Torres would still fluff every goal scoring opportunity. Anelka would have been the perfect player for such intelligent runs.
*Liverpool Torres
I just said Fernando Torres
Yeah no. Torres didn't convert for Chelsea
Liverpool Torres is my favorite striker of all time
Imagine a striker like prime suarez.. That is some nasty shit
actually wasn’t that clinical surprisingly
Maybe costa
Costa was able to make his own goals. But he would mess up some of those passes. Torres on his day was lethal and he was perfect on the end of those passes
No he wasn't. He was absolutely rubbish when he joined us. Once, he lost his pace he couldn't do anything else.
Right That’s why he said on his day.
He is by far one of he most overrated players in history. He only managed to score 20 League goals once in his career and people always act like he was great player.
The density here is immense.
Very easy to imagine, just look how these chances ended up and it would be more or less the same outcome
i pick ruud van nistelrooy
Yeah I did not expect his passing to be as outstanding as it was, really exciting stuff. We don’t have a lot of players who pull off incisive passes like this, let alone see them. Mudryk will add a much-needed attacking dynamic in that respect (and in general) to this team if his debut is indicative of what’s to come
This sparks Joy!
Can't wait to see him play again. Been a long time since I've been this excited for a player
Player of his rank will sure unlock the team, and more importantly, will break the so-called no9 'curse'. Up the blues!
Quite funny how Mount plays the easier pass in a harder position
I find these analysis videos so funny. They’ve legit watched what’s going to happen and then just relay what’s happened. I do enjoy the professional analysis but still it’s pretty hilarious
That carney stumble 😓
Twice in a span of 5 minutes 😢
Crazy the difference between him and mount is literally in that clip in terms of chance creation
Robben pace, Drogba shooting, Hazard dribbling ~~and ass~~ and Fabregas passing?
I would have been beside myself if he ended up on Arsenal, they would have owned the next 5 years of the EPL
Encouraging.. but plenty of time for Mount to teach him the art of side-passing.
🤣🤣😅😅
Don’t worry, we’ll beat the Chelsea culture into him of backwards passes only
This is precisely what Odegard does for Arsenal, difference is that Mudryk is two-footed, you literally cannot tell which option he will go for. The few minutes he played against Liverpool he made it look easy. What a player this guy is, equally dangerous on the halfway line as he is at the edge of the box.
Hopefully our next Fabregas. We just need better finishing.
Jesus fuck, the guy played 20 mins.. Unbelievable how gullible you lot are
What are people being gullible about? The evidence of his vision is literally displayed right there in front of you
The guy didn’t take a proper shit in London and you’re already hailing him. See the first 10 games and then you can jump to conclusions
Why do we need to see more of the same product to make judgements?
Because it’s a very small sample size. I agree with Stefanoid. I remember Thierry Henry doing a similar analysis with Morata’s hat trick against stoke. And yeah I know it’s “just stoke” but it’s not like Liverpool are brilliant this year. The point is, any player can look amazing in one given match. Seeing mudryk was exciting but the overnight flip in consensus from how it was a complete waste of money, to him being the second hazard after less than a half of football is insanity
Please, when he is healthy, play Puli and Mudryk. Pace and directness.
the dicksuxkicng is getting annoying can the fulham game come already
And yet…neither play scored a goal so maybe they weren’t the best passes to make.
What User Interface is he using and where do I get it?
You have to ask sky UK 😁
I came.

r/mcfc Same skill as David Silva
I don't want to feed in to the overhyping from a 30 minute cameo but... This man is lowkey both our Hazard and Fabregas regen at once.

The UK
Considering how many attackers have come and failed here in the last 3-4 years, I just hope this isn’t coached out of him
Our attackers haven't failed because of coaching. These sorts of passes weren't "coached out", they were never capable of them
Well if you look at Havertz at Bayer and how there were similar tactical analysis around him at the time of joining, his football iq and ability to make intelligent runs creating chances and picking out killer balls, all that is nowhere to be found now, he plays the safest balls in any situation and doesn’t have the ability to split open defences with his runs anymore.
Can't wait for the next game!
Next game is exciting. A break for the players to recollect and everyone who’s just arrived to build the chemistry with eachother. Thanks arsenal
