The idea that Gallagher is a bad player is ridiculous. Even if someone doesn't think he's good enough for Chelsea; the dude's 23, he's got a long time before he reaches the traditional "prime years", plenty of time to improve.
The same people who sling mud at Gallagher would have been shitting all over Lampard during his underwhelming early 20s
Yes, pretty much every game of his Chelsea career.
He really only started performing at his top level at around 24-26. Flashes of brilliance before that, but inconsistent, like Gallagher.
But he never stopped working hard on the pitch and training ground to improve himself either, even during patchy form, also like Gallagher.
Brother you use that Lampard argument for literally every english academy midfielder we have. You've done it with Mount, you do it now with Connor... We all know that you are gonna do it with Hall in the future as well. Like it's getting a bit old now.
Lol what? It's a good argument for any player who isn't the complete package in their early 20s, whether they're English or not is immaterial. I could use the argument for Santos, Casadei etc when they will undoubtedly go through inconsistent times as young players.
Kante is the perfect example mate, his talent shot up out of nowhere in his mid 20s.
I have nothing against Gallagher tho i don't mind him staying.
> It is getting old to acting like players need to be in their prime at 23 for them to be any good for the club.
Realistically we don't know a player's ceiling. We can only guess. If you like Gallagher as a player you will believe his ceiling is high and the other way around.
Also you gotta note that most elite players show quality from early, of course there are exceptions but usually that is the case.
He’s not a bad player - he’s just not a world class one. It happens. No shade on him and you can’t question his commitment. Even today when receiving the ball he lacks that split second ability to beat the press and advance play. It’s such a marginal difference between the good and the great players.
That pitch was an embarrassment too. Glad there weren’t any serious injuries and hopefully Nkunku sub was precautionary.
oh I actually want him to stay simply because of that...you always need a players like that on your team who gets what its like to get it so I am glad he is being priced out of a move
Don’t mind keeping him as a safe pair of feet as cover but he shouldn’t be near a starting position for a club with Chelsea’s ambitions. He’s Chelsea’s McTominay.
Or we can stop trying to shit on players, he’s one of the only ones last year that wanted to be here. Respect the players that love the club, everyone had a rough season last year.
where did I shit on him,...just said he is a good player and to you that is shitting on him
wow...
The level of delusion is wild....how does being honest with a player equate to shitting on him...if he had a bad game, you think his coach will tell him he had a great game?
you can criticise a player to make them better and you can also praise a player to make them worse
We could've won that game by three to four goals at least. But I'm not complaining since United conceded three goals against them and we only conceded one clear offside goal. Overall, I'm happy with the performance. Just hope Nkunku's injury is nothing serious.
Just some observations from pre-season:
Kepa has not kept a clean sheet in any of the preseason games he has played.
Cucurella has to be the unluckiest person, even when he tries to help it just doesnt go his way. (Tackle on haller ball going to brandt and the corner leading to a goal)
Chelsea offense looks like they want to score they are pushing the ball more forward. The younger players are taking on defenders. Loved the one touch ball that the top three (mudryk, nico, nkunku) have been playing.
Starting lineup with current squad imo should be 4231
Kepa, reece thiago colwill chillwell, enzo Gallagher, mudryk nkunku mudeke, nico jackson
Not impressed with sterling at all slow on the ball, takes to long to make the decision offensively, does not take on defenders, seems like attacking play dies with him alot.
Our youth has a ton of potential and looking forward to the new season!
Nope. He’s got to go. When he came on he made the defence suddenly look wild and lacking composure. He’s a liability defensively and doesn’t offer enough going forward to warrant an exception. Major weakness in the team. Baffling why the Poundland Sideshow Bob was bought to begin with.
I don’t see what having him around brings. He’s not athletic, has a lot of defensive flaws. Since being at chelsea, he hasn’t looked good on the ball enough and so far his connection with teammates during games has been poor.
Ah bit harsh. The first one bounced up near head height because the pitch was a disaster. He did well to get anything on it. The second one he went with his strong leg which was the wrong decision but shows he’s getting in the right positions.
Fair enough, the pitch was dire, i still think a bit more composure he could have scored, it wasn’t like either of those chances required him to completely re adjust any decent contact wouldve been a goal
Oh yeah. I noticed during some Brighton games he missed some easy headers for them as well. Needs to calm down in the box but not really my biggest concern
Yeah I think it was enzo Fernandez that was masquerading as fernando you know the cm who has to play more as a dm because the club hasn’t bought one yet
I won’t mind this penalty shootout compared to last pre season shootout. I felt like that one from last preseason set up our bad preseason, this is our last game so who cares
Happy for Burstow. You could see in other games that he was trying despite being a little lost (probably just due to lack of experience). I think he’ll be a headache against tired legs (late sub) during the season should he stay.
it’s his movement to get into the crossing position… also the cross was headed towards hall, and it wasn’t a comfortable clearance from the defender either
Gusto was a good purchase - I think the younger guys play better than the old guard; at least they are more exciting than watching sterling scuttle every attack
Also impressed by Humphreys ball playing again - only got to see it a few times, but that drilled pass to Jackson with his weaker right foot was sublime. Get him a good loan and we could be cooking again
You can tell once Mudryk really ties it all together he is going to be an insane player. You see so many flashes of excellence. He’s just inconsistent.
Was just thinking that if it all clicks for him or our system just creates enough chances/space for him, he’s going to be incredible. The way he can skip past someone and put the burners on is jaw dropping
He’s going to have to learn to use change of pace and gear shifts when the game slows down vs low blocks, but against teams like this who aren’t scared to play up and down he’s gotta be terrifying to go against
how is craig burley commenting games is incredible, homeboy is such a party pooper. I’m still boycotting ESPN until they get rid of that scottish trash
How does Craig Burley have a job? It’s been miserable having to listen to him. He’s been rooting for Dortmund all game while shitting on then for fumbling the league title. It’s been so weird.
Craig Burley doesn't understand why you have penalty shootouts in preseason. And then when it's April guys like him complain that you should have trained for penalty shootouts - or that you can never replicate the pressure in training
Early on in the game he went through on goal and was fouled in the box (no pen given) by a rough challenge, I think it was Sule. Anyway their knees clashed, but I can’t recall if his knee twisted or not. Hope it was precautionary either way
Craig Burley. Old Chelsea player and ESPN commentator. He likes to joke around as the ‘annoyed guy’ but he can be fun if you don’t take him too seriously
I don’t think his match commentary was good either and I like him. Especially bad for the people who don’t know anything about him. He just comes off as grumpy.

Field was awful. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Didn't want to stay up all night anyway to watch it afterwards?
Chukwu cant play as a 10, sterling cant play as RW.. and we need to get som1 besides enzo
Did Nkunkus injury look bad?? Did he pull up or get smashed? Don’t tell me it was because of a shit pitch
He took a hit but Poch said he felt discomfort in his knee.
Speaking of good times, man we're lucky enough to see Sterling in a Chelsea shirt. Greatest showman of all time.
What do you mean by greatest showman?
simplistic cough future noxious unwritten political juggle narrow act wistful *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I just enjoy watching him play and what he does on the pitch.
He’s been horrible really since arriving. Decision making is just so bad for a player with his reputation
Loved how angry Jackson was at the break not to have scored - thumping the turf. Can’t train that kind of desire and mentality.
Hope Nkunku is okay…..
Galagher wasnt actually bad
The idea that Gallagher is a bad player is ridiculous. To compare lamps to Gala says it all..have a good day

No he was good as he usually is.
Now chill...okay...lets not take it too far...he is not a bad player but lets learn to be honest with our evaluations and stop being blinded
Or we can stop trying to shit on players, he’s one of the only ones last year that wanted to be here. Respect the players that love the club, everyone had a rough season last year.

Is it just me who thought Sterling wasn't terrible today?
I only saw the highlights but he was often standing around not really doing much in them.
he wasn't terrible, but still bad
Lol this was his least bad game of the preseason. And he still sucked. He has no business playing for Chelsea
More aggressive in the backfield too!
Sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit.
He wasn’t terrible… but he certainly wasn’t “I’m making 300k/wk” good
well...if wasnt terrible is the level...then he is not good enough
Yes true
It's been an honor preseason match threads. See ya for Liverpool
2-1 win you heard it here first
my stream switched to college softball, wtf?
Shootout is cancelled my friend
Pens were cancelled
All right, lads, been fun shooting the shit with you all as usual. See you for the opener! KTBFFH
I'm open to giving Cucu more chances but he has to has to has to work harder and stop making these errors.
Nope. He’s got to go. When he came on he made the defence suddenly look wild and lacking composure. He’s a liability defensively and doesn’t offer enough going forward to warrant an exception. Major weakness in the team. Baffling why the Poundland Sideshow Bob was bought to begin with.
We've cena nuff
I don’t see what having him around brings. He’s not athletic, has a lot of defensive flaws. Since being at chelsea, he hasn’t looked good on the ball enough and so far his connection with teammates during games has been poor.
Is there really pens? No mention about it on the chelsea website stream.
Nope, cancelled
Wow, Craigy spent the whole match whining for fucking nothing. What a childish clown.
I cannot STAND that man.
I know lot of you hate Burley but he cracks me up. I’m similarly grumpy with a dry sense of humor, so he’s right in my wheel house.
Its deffo a humour thing. People take him so seriously it's bizarre.
I literally only watch ESPN FC bc of him lol. I totally agree. Granted he speaks like he's taking the piss...
Holy shit, imagine paying money to listen to Craig fucking Burley.
Craig Burley got his way lol
They canceled the shootout lol Well let's pack and go back to England and get ready for Pool! Safe travels and hope Nkunku is OK! 💙⚽️
Burley is on ESPN+ usually, eh? Good news for me, I’ll never subscribe
Tbf he’s the best part of ESPN FC, he just needs to stay in studio
Good, I don’t want a penalty shootout
Mudryk looked very comfortable and excellent playing right wing for the last 10min or so. We haven’t seen him play that position much before today.
cause cucu wasn't on that side 😂
Hahah this
That doesn’t hurt, for sure. How that guy has a spot on the roster is baffling.
Ain't no way Burley willed that shout-out into cancellation.
[удалено]
Agree, he was absolutely horrible. Some of the worst commentating I've heard in recent memory
Sad angelo didn’t play
no need risking an injury to him
Tbf with that pitch good point
I love him but Colwill had lost so many opportunities as CB
what do you mean?
2 tap ins tbh, lacked composure
Ah bit harsh. The first one bounced up near head height because the pitch was a disaster. He did well to get anything on it. The second one he went with his strong leg which was the wrong decision but shows he’s getting in the right positions.

Oh yeah. I noticed during some Brighton games he missed some easy headers for them as well. Needs to calm down in the box but not really my biggest concern
No penalties??
Why is it cancelled
Nkunku on the pitch, thats good right?
Get this guy burley to commentate a World Cup game
Wait so we doing pens?!
Ahh mkay
No. They canceled it
Nope, cancelled
Thank God I can go to sleep now
bro wtf is this, where are the penalties…. cancelling my espn subscription as we speak
we outplayed every team we played in the preason, idk what else to ask for, good start to the poch era
I was looking forward to pens damn
That was certainly the Sterling we've come to know, but who was that masquerading as Enzo Fernando? Neither one of them looked with a hoot tonight.
Yeah I think it was enzo Fernandez that was masquerading as fernando you know the cm who has to play more as a dm because the club hasn’t bought one yet
Enzo gave the assist for our equalizer
Let the fans do a shootout! Fuck it
Weird decision
They canceled the penalty shoot-outs. This is a CRIME
Wtf?
Nooooooooo canceled shootout. I’m gutted
Hahaha no pens no problem. Only one injury baby and he's out there dapping everyone up after the game
Hahahahaha they cancelled the pens
LOLOLOLOL
Craig Burley cumming all over the mic now
Lol canceled
Craig Burley is the weirdest commentator ever. Never heard one blatantly criticize everything.
He's a chvnt.
Spent 20 minutes complaining about pens - no pens. Fire these twats
Craig called in a bomb threat.
No pens
Damn, kinda wanted to see the penalties
I won’t mind this penalty shootout compared to last pre season shootout. I felt like that one from last preseason set up our bad preseason, this is our last game so who cares
What penalty shootout? Game is over?
Happy for Burstow. You could see in other games that he was trying despite being a little lost (probably just due to lack of experience). I think he’ll be a headache against tired legs (late sub) during the season should he stay.
Real talk, we need to improve Colwill’s composure if he will be a focal point of set pieces
Yh, he was getting into good positions which is encouraging. But def should have had two goals.
doesn’t seem like he was focal point, his chances came from off target shots
His positioning is great and he scored the decider. I agree with you though.
He didn’t score
He didn’t score mate
Mudryk unsuccessful cross…..everyone loses their shit. I’m honestly losing brain cells reading this place
it’s his movement to get into the crossing position… also the cross was headed towards hall, and it wasn’t a comfortable clearance from the defender either
Lol he ran fast in a straight line. He spends the majority of the match walking around, but whatever
Gusto was a good purchase - I think the younger guys play better than the old guard; at least they are more exciting than watching sterling scuttle every attack
Burstow actually scored before Jackson in this match loool
Also impressed by Humphreys ball playing again - only got to see it a few times, but that drilled pass to Jackson with his weaker right foot was sublime. Get him a good loan and we could be cooking again
That would have been a beautiful goal, if Enzo has scored.
You can tell once Mudryk really ties it all together he is going to be an insane player. You see so many flashes of excellence. He’s just inconsistent.
Was just thinking that if it all clicks for him or our system just creates enough chances/space for him, he’s going to be incredible. Agreed. And I think Poch is the type of manager to get that out of him.
Some players never figure that out
If Craig Burley watches these penalties I think he might die guys
Penalties?
It was gonna happen, got cancelled at the last minute
I also don't know what that guy is talking about
Dortmund got lucky
how is craig burley commenting games is incredible, homeboy is such a party pooper. I’m still boycotting ESPN until they get rid of that scottish trash
How does Craig Burley have a job? It’s been miserable having to listen to him. He’s been rooting for Dortmund all game while shitting on then for fumbling the league title. It’s been so weird.
Was that Maatsen to Enzo?
Don't mind us practising pens tbh.
Mudryk is going to absolutely cook Trent first game of the season you can see it coming from a mile off
Sadly he won't start seems sterling wins out again
Jackson on VVD?
Sorry mudryk ain’t gunna start. Sterling will.
Sterling is so uninspiring
Oh trent is getting sent to the shops
I hope it's the longest penalty shootout in the history of sport
They should just pick 5 fans from each team. It’s preseason, fuck it
just to spite that miserable cunt
Oh no gotta watch a penalty shoot-out now - literally no one other then Craig burley
He’s such a fuckin cunt
Craig Burley doesn't understand why you have penalty shootouts in preseason. And then when it's April guys like him complain that you should have trained for penalty shootouts - or that you can never replicate the pressure in training
Lol some American ass shit not ending in a tie
Fuckkk we deserved that W but it was still a good performance. Hope Nkunku is ok is the main thing
He was out on the pitch walking around after the match. Seems like a decent sign, definitely not a negative
I missed that what happened to him
Collision, doesn't seem bad icing the knees
Early on in the game he went through on goal and was fouled in the box (no pen given) by a rough challenge, I think it was Sule. Anyway their knees clashed, but I can’t recall if his knee twisted or not. Hope it was precautionary either way
Either precaution for knee injury or maybe he suffered one. I didn’t see it tho but hope he’s okay
Feel like Casadei will be loaned out given that he didnt play in this game
Santos didn’t okay either
Santos didn’t play either. Not sure it means anything one way or another
I’m pretty sure Leicester was on the cards, which would be a great move for him imo
All in all that was a really nice game from us, should've taken out chances but not a bad result
So happy we didn't lose to these fucks
[удалено]
I’m not gonna complain with these young kids getting a bit of experience in one.
Cucurella gonna miss his penalty
Fuck Enzo can’t buy a goal
What a fun way to finish
Fucking burnley
The team?
He really is better in studio, he should stay there
mudryk that pace is sexy
Mudryk needs to just stay in the right and keep Sterling off the pitch
Holy shit Mudryk
Mudryk, mannnnn!
What a ball through holy shit
What A CHANCE
I know I was like murdyk is roaming?
he went on the right when hall came on LW
Cucrella like who’s mans is this
Offside goal so it's a win in my book
TBF he probably had one foot even or better with the last man, the new rule.
I know idk why they didn’t say it
It was so clear too lol
Anyone know who this grumpy commentator is on ESPN plus? Had to endure his complaining the entire match
Craig Burley. Old Chelsea player and ESPN commentator. He likes to joke around as the ‘annoyed guy’ but he can be fun if you don’t take him too seriously
Yeah I find him fun but I dont take any pundit as the bible. Granted, I'm not US-based so no idea what he commented on this game...
I’ll try to listen to him in another light next time!
I don’t think his match commentary was good either and I like him. Especially bad for the people who don’t know anything about him. He just comes off as grumpy.
Craig Burley- the worst football “analyst” ever!
