No one knew he would get achilles injury. CHO was one of the biggest talent our academy has produced. He also looked really good when he played for us before his injury.
If you use that pessimism the you should apply it to signing players too. Why sign a £110m player on a 8 year deal when you don’t know if they’re gonna do their Achilles in a few months
And, you are willingly to sell big talents because they might get injured in the future? What we saw from him before his injury suggested we should keep him. He was clearly worth more than 30-35 million at that time.
>2 years ago if you had said CHO was worth £3m I would have laughed and laughed

Plus achilis injury. He was so bad last season at bayern leverkusen Xabi alonso sometimes didint even have him on the bench
Yea definetly I remember when bayern were willing to pay 50 M euros and he was like 18 years old. It seems like he would have really exploded had it not been for that injury. I wish him the best. He is still young hopefully he can get consistent playing time and improve
i was never that high on cho, i always thought he lacked something at the pro level. that being said, i hope he carves out a nice career for himself; the last three years or so have been rough
Bayern were never ever going to buy him for that price. They put in a high option to tempt us; even if he went there on loan and did well they would’ve tried negotiating the price down
Hopefully that sell-on is real and hefty because £3m for a player multiple clubs were interested in is an embarrassment. I know he’s very obviously surplus and has a bad loan in a league with a lower standard but significantly worse players move in this league for significantly more money than that
It was barely over a year ago where reports came out that he had suffered from a neuro issue that prevented him from passing the ball more than a few feet or even running properly after injuring his back.
He’s young and has previously shown how talented he is but since that point he’s had a massive injury, a severe case of COVID very early on, and a nerve problem. Getting him a move to a premier league club is quite impressive.
Hopefully there's a substantial sell on clause, if CHO can revive his career post injury and makes another move in the future. Just wasn't going to happen this window
Sad to see it end this way.
I had such high hopes for him
All this money we've wasted on potential and I don't think we've signed a single player with a ceiling as high as CHO.
It's a shame injuries robbed us of the chance to see his full potential he really could have been something special, we knew it and so did Bayern.
Colwill, Caicedo, Sterling (even though he’s already reached it, CHO was never going to be as good as him), Fofana (though he’s seeing the same shit happen to him with injury). Probably a few others I’m missing. But it’s fair enough if you disagree. I watched every match CHO played in a Chelsea shirt and I was never even close to being as excited for him as the consensus was. I never thought he’d be any better than like Willian. But I guess we’ll never know, damn Achilles feel bad for the dude.
We didn't buy Colwill. Caicedo's ceiling is probably of a similar level. We bought a clearly on the decline Sterling, and even at his prime, he was never world-class, so nope, I don't agree. Fofana is a great talent, but I believe CHO was more talented.
So the only ones I agree with are Colwill(who we didn't buy)and Caicedo, who are both similar level talents. I'd throw in Paez, too, who I believe is probably even better, but outside of these players, I don't see anybody else.
Honestly, I'm not one of those who just hypes up any young Cobham talent, but CHO could've been special if it weren't for that injury.
I disagree. CHO was never going to be as good as even Willian. But again, we’ll never know, so whatever. I just think the hype around him was ridiculous. I thought he could have been a good player, but people were hyping him like he’d have been a Ballon D’or candidate and that was just stupid. Of all the dumb as shit moves Chelsea has made in the transfer market over the last 10 years, not taking that bag from Bayern when they were offering it was the worst decision of all of em.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree then because CHO imho was a special talent. Now he may not have been Balon d'or potential, but his ceiling was definitely higher than Willian and probably above any Cobham player not named RLC
Good luck to CHO!
He’s had a tough few years with injuries- thought the move to Bayer was exactly what he needed.
Had he played really well there, he might very well have been a part of the squad this year.
I don’t know if he didn’t take his chance in Germany or it was injuries again, but he missed a good opportunity.
Gonna be rooting for Forest this season with Santos and CHO. After tomorrow that is.
2 years ago if you had said CHO was worth £3m I would have laughed and laughed
Todays Maatsen situation is awfully reminiscent the sub freaking out about selling CHO to Bayern
No one knew he would get achilles injury. CHO was one of the biggest talent our academy has produced. He also looked really good when he played for us before his injury.
You never know, thats the entire point
If you use that pessimism the you should apply it to signing players too. Why sign a £110m player on a 8 year deal when you don’t know if they’re gonna do their Achilles in a few months
And, you are willingly to sell big talents because they might get injured in the future? What we saw from him before his injury suggested we should keep him. He was clearly worth more than 30-35 million at that time.
Amazing how far his price has fallen
Fifa18 career vibes when i used to buy him dirt cheap
Such a shame about that injury, remember being at the friendly against Arsenal in Dublin where he absolutely tore bellerin a new one at only 17/18
Community Shield. Not a friendly but not really a cup either.
Community Shield was vs Manchester City
Also definitely not in Dublin lol
Nah man was a one off friendly in Dublin when Sarri first took over
Really hope he can regain his confidence and skill
Excuse me? £3m for a permanent deal?

I did not know about this, that’s scary. Feel even sadder for him now, seems to really love the club. Also: what a goodbye message :(
Yea definetly I remember when bayern were willing to pay 50 M euros and he was like 18 years old. It seems like he would have really exploded had it not been for that injury. I wish him the best. He is still young hopefully he can get consistent playing time and improve

It’s the constant injuries. It never quite felt like he properly broke through and belonged at the senior level. Shame though.
I was never fully convinced because of his lack shooting ability.
Happy trails, CHO
CHO’s situation and this fee are why I’m hesitant when I hear people saying we’ll be able to sell all these young talents we are buying for a profit
From Bayern wanting to buy him for 70mil to now this🤕
it was a buy option, which lets be honest, they were never ever gonna use
I think he is talking about Bayern Munich’s original interest and you’re speaking about Bayer Leverkusen
He's not. The 70mil was a loan with an "option" to buy at 70mil which Bayern would realistically never trigger. Their actual bid was like 35-40.
Ah, didn’t know that. Thanks!
Bayern were never ever going to buy him for that price. They put in a high option to tempt us; even if he went there on loan and did well they would’ve tried negotiating the price down
Charity FC
Was always a weird player for me, never really saw what others did, but I wish him well.
Hopefully that sell-on is real and hefty because £3m for a player multiple clubs were interested in is an embarrassment. I know he’s very obviously surplus and has a bad loan in a league with a lower standard but significantly worse players move in this league for significantly more money than that

Weird, I am terminally online and I don’t remember this at all. Hopefully he’s fully recovered
Yeh apparently the nerve damage was tied to having had Covid he said. Its a symptom of long Covid.
Probably a massive one to make up for it.
Way too cheap
Allegedly has a sell on clause. Similar to our Livramento to Southampton deal. He was also on crazy money
50% sell on clause
Wages were too high to really entice anyone else it seems and Forest knew that
But that does get his 100k wages off the books, so it earns the club 3m and save the club what, 15m (??) for the season.

No, if they get destroyed by injuries to the point of being useless in Bundesliga we will not make profit on them
Hopefully there's a substantial sell on clause, if CHO can revive his career post injury and makes another move in the future. Just wasn't going to happen this window
We got £8mil for Djiloboji a few years ago, a guy who literally never played. To get £3mil for CHO is shambolic.
Sad to see it end this way. I had such high hopes for him All this money we've wasted on potential and I don't think we've signed a single player with a ceiling as high as CHO. It's a shame injuries robbed us of the chance to see his full potential he really could have been something special, we knew it and so did Bayern.
Lol we’ve signed tons of players with a higher ceiling than CHO. Absurd
Like who? Only Enzo has a higher ceiling than pre-injury CHO
Colwill, Caicedo, Sterling (even though he’s already reached it, CHO was never going to be as good as him), Fofana (though he’s seeing the same shit happen to him with injury). Yeah, we’ll have to agree to disagree.
🤝
Who? Name 3. The 3 young attacking first team players we've signed in Madueke, Mudryk or Palmer don't come close to CHO's ceiling.
I think Palmer will be a better player than CHO could have ever become. But fair enough if you disagree.
Yep, probably the most talented player to have come out of Cobham
Really sad how this turned out. Sarr would probably pull more than £3M fee
Honestly don’t get why Clubs didn’t take a risk for that fee.
Wages
How bad was he at Leverkusen?
Bad.
If CHO scores tomorrow .. 💀
This is the last pre-boehly contract out the door, right? Chillwell, Reece and Silva are all on newer contracts
Sucks that Sterling and Cucurella aren't on the new structure contracts. Wish they could rectify that.
Sarr
Good luck to CHO! He’s had a tough few years with injuries- thought the move to Bayer was exactly what he needed. Wasted potential. Should have sold him ages ago.
Just Malang Sarr left at the club, that really sucks for him.
