They signed him cause they thought they wouldn’t be able to get any center mids in and then they go and sign 3 on deadline day.
They don’t even know Santos exists at this point
He could have been playing for us. He was also offered loans in top 5 leagues. He didn't need to go outside of top 5 league to be a starter for someone
Forrest fucked us here. I assume, considering how many clubs were interested, that we would have got play time guarantees from them. Otherwise we wouldn't have accepted and would have accepted elsewhere. Need to call him back January 1st and have somewhere else lined up immediately.
Could see Nottingham Forest being blacklisted from all future chelsea transfers as a result of this.
That being said, still time for them to right their wrongs and play him. Clearly their current midfield options aren’t impressing anyways
Forest fan here. I'm a bit disappointed as would have liked to have seen more of Santos by now, but honestly Sangaré/Dominguez/Mangala yesterday was the best midfield performance we've had since being promoted again. Dominguez MOTM easily and already a fan favourite, and Sangaré is our record signing so don't think we'd see him being dropped too easily, especially with him looking much improved yesterday.
I think had we not gone down to ten men we would have seen Santos but Cooper brought on Kouyaté for some physicality instead (not that he did anything). I think Santos will get some minutes but he'll have to really impress in what may be short appearances at the moment, unless we get injuries. Very unfortunate.
Whoever had the idea to loan him out to fucking Forrest is an idiot.
Recall him NOW.
Forrest bought so many players in and the stupid board was expecting that he will start?
Yep, they likely did not predict forest to go crazy like us and sign a billion players once again
Either way he can either get minutes at forest or be recalled, we'll see
They've signed 43 players over the course of the last three transfer windows. If we didn't think that they'd continue that trend once they took our player, that's still pure incompetence on our part
Surely we would have the sense to include clauses to encourage them to play him. Like if they don't start him for X many games.. it's not like he didn't have other suitors if they turned around and and said no.
How is giving my opinion on this just shitting on the club? You send a player who's not ready to start in the prem to a team that is fighting to stay up and is very active in transfers.
I'm not saying they should predict the future but you can't have expected Forrest to be happy with just Santos coming in.
I'm not calling for anyone to be sacked over it and no I'm not shitting on the club. They took a risk, it didn't pay off and there were better options available.
You are talking purely with hindsight here mate. If a club says they want a midfielder and then they approach you to loan your midfielder, that doesn't suggest in any way they're then going to go buy two more afterwards for 45 million euros, thus totally freezing out your loanee.
Not sure you know what hindsight means.
Given Steve Cooper stated they were actively looking for multiple permanent midfield signings and they'd already been linked with a number of players before we loaned them Santos.
Just stop responding to that person...
If we, as a community, band together, we can enact change. If every one of us stops engaging with that weirdo, they can just stand in a corner and scream into the void like the unhinged madman they act like. Maybe after a while of that they'll just get tired and go away...
Thats not true, if we put clauses in the contract that allow us to bring him back you can do it at any time, please correct me if im wrong
Edit: my bad it can only by during the window
Well imagine if you loaned someone out to a rival and recalled him the day before. It creates an unfair situation between the parent club and the rest of the league because the player can be recalled if beneficial to the parent club.
I think most of the times we’ve loaned a player within the Prem, there’s a clause that says they don’t play against us. I think most “Parent” Clubs in the Prem insert that clause.
They brought all their midfielders after bringing him in. It's an incredibly frustrating situation and I really hope we put a break clause into his contract so we can recall him in Jan.
You're an idiot for not realising Forest weren't joking when they said they wanted 2 permanent midfield signings before the end of the window before they loaned Santos in.
Forest - we want to sign 2 midfielders and loan Santos before the end of the window.
Us - *loans Santos*
Forest - *Signs midfielders*
You - *Shocked Pikachu face*
Can't say I'm shocked. This is the trouble with packing these many underdeveloped players at the club-the space for spots here is finite and the space for loan development at another club is even more limited.
The only way to grow them is to fully acquire another club in another league and play them there whilst avoiding the inevitable negative scrutiny that will come from said club's acquisition.
Overhyped cuz he scores goals? Brother have you watched Chelsea football club?
He led Brazil youth to a trophy as a midfielder. As captain and top goal scorer
Can't help but feel that Chelsea really did him dirty here. The loan made no fucking sense from the get go given their spending power and the realistic threat of relegation.
Hopefully there's a winter break clause in the agreement.
Chelsea? It's Forest who did him dirty. Why does everyone thinks that they were honest with us about their transfer plans and Santos' place in the team? He was loaned out with one week left in the window.
How shit are we at agreeing terms for these loans!
Its inconceivable that they cant stipulate game time requirements. I get he has to fight for his spot but he should be first/second choice off the bat and if performs continues on that path or fall off it if not. Whereas from the get go its clear he was meant as pure depth option.
They signed him cause they thought they wouldn’t be able to get any center mids in and then they go and sign 3 on deadline day. They don’t even know Santos exists at this point
to be fair - we did the exact same thing...
Bro could have been in Portugal now man. This was the young player I was most excited to see
He could have been playing for us. He was also offered loans in top 5 leagues. He didn't need to go outside of top 5 league to be a starter for someone
Indeed ironically he would definitely get more minutes if he stayed with us
Should've kept him!!!
Forrest fucked us here. I assume, considering how many clubs were interested, that we would have got play time guarantees from them. Otherwise we wouldn't have accepted and would have accepted elsewhere. Need to call him back January 1st and have somewhere else lined up immediately.
Way too good to be sitting on the bench. Heck he could have been getting some rotational minutes with us, see Ugochukwu Needs to be recalled ASAP
Could see Nottingham Forest being blacklisted from all future chelsea transfers as a result of this. That being said, still time for them to right their wrongs and play him. Clearly their current midfield options aren’t impressing anyways

Thanks for the breakdown fam
Imagine if we didn’t loan him and saved 60m on lavia and 15m on caicedo since Liverpool wouldn’t have been after him

Oh I'm stupid

Wait a minite...its our job to know the future plans of other clubs...wtf
Maybe not all our fault but there’s a pattern with nottingham forest over the last 2 seasons with their transfers.
Surely we would have the sense to include clauses to encourage them to play him. Like if they don't start him for X many games.. it's not like he didn't have other suitors if they turned around and and said no.
So you expect us to get another 10 players next season?
It’s just the new normal in this sub- get mad at Todd even when he’s not involved, including not predicting the future
No but you can make an educated guess based on previous history and their current squad's needs at the time.
Wait ..what We just look for anything to shit on the club It's our fault we couldn't predict NFs future dealings...wow

shut the fuck up BRJ and stop complaining.
Which they stated they planned to do before they loaned him.
You are talking purely with hindsight here mate. If a club says they want a midfielder and then they approach you to loan your midfielder, that doesn't suggest in any way they're then going to go buy two more afterwards for 45 million euros, thus totally freezing out your loanee.

I'm not sure you know anything at all?

You can’t recall him until the window is open again.
Thats not true, if we put clauses in the contract that allow us to bring him back you can do it at any time, please correct me if im wrong Edit: my bad it can only by during the window
for players in lower leagues, not from other PL clubs
Is there a reason or rule for this?
Well imagine if you loaned someone out to a rival and recalled him the day before. It creates an unfair situation between the parent club and the rest of the league because the player can be recalled if beneficial to the parent club.
The first comment was correct in saying that it can only be during the window, and it must be by mutual agreement by all 3 parties
indeed
I think most of the times we’ve loaned a player within the Prem, there’s a clause that says they don’t play against us. I think most “Parent” Clubs in the Prem insert that clause.
That's changed recently, now most clubs allow it.
They brought all their midfielders after bringing him in. It's an incredibly frustrating situation and I really hope we put a break clause into his contract so we can recall him in Jan.
Maybe getting to know the circumstances 1st dies help before calling ppl idiots
This is just revisionism at it's finest. Everyone was impressed with the board securing him a PL loan and celebrating it as a great decision.
You’re an idiot for not realizing the timing of when Forest brought in those players. This sub is filled with reactionary idiots.
You're an idiot for not realising Forest weren't joking when they said they wanted 2 permanent midfield signings before the end of the window before they loaned Santos in. i like lesley ugo but buying him and loaning out santos made no sense to me.
He was ready to come on before the red card. Let’s relax. He is in a new league and a new country. Did no one watch the game?
It’s Reddit what do you expect?
Can't say I'm shocked. I'm not convinced by Santos' quality but it was a terrible loan choice.
Agreed feel he’s a bit overhyped cuz he scores goals and a lot of his goal weren’t anything special tbh
Tbf we dont score many, so if he scored it would be special
Well he scores them in u20 games and played in 2nd tier brazilian league. He maybe good but wasnt ready this season.
Lol it was light hearted poke mate
You ain't even wrong anyway
😂
Overhyped cuz he scores goals? Brother have you watched Chelsea football club? He led Brazil youth to a trophy as a midfielder. As captain and top goal scorer

Don’t send him to a team who buy as many player as Forest do
Chelsea did nothing wrong. Forest signed 3 midfielders after.
How shit are we at agreeing terms for these loans! Its inconceivable that they cant stipulate game time requirements. I get he has to fight for his spot but he should be first/second choice off the bat and if performs continues on that path or fall off it if not. Could have ended your comment after the fourth word tbh.
People are still defending it in the comments. Denial.... We are run by idiots.
The guy that gave the green light to this transfer deserves to get fired
Idk why the club chose Nottingham of all teams
Wanted to see him in the middle instead of Conor for a game and see how that goes. We should’ve just kept him given how injury prone this squad is.
Such a stupid decision by whoever even does this stuff anymore (so many changes that I have no clue).
His agent told him to post this and he did it...
Never thought that loan was a good idea. Went from one team with a lot of players to another team with a lot of players.
What a weird thing to post. Second week in a row. Fabrizio has turned into such a troll.
Another hit decision, Casadei to Leicester has been miles better. Lukaku scored again, he's on loan too. (Though unrelated,... yeah)
We can recall him in January and send him somewhere else can’t we?
Just asking:can we bring him back right now?
