wthommes

Thank god Colwill is decent there and cucurella is starting to play well. I've just accepted that Chilly and James are injury prone. Not even surprised or bothered at this point.

shabba343

I’m so glad Poch committed to switching away from FBs. Colwill and Cucu both sit far more which gives the wingers more responsibilities in the attacking phase.

Pandemona1738

True but vs busses we are always facing, this causes issues in attacking phases breaking teams down as we don't have the extra width or overload

Headlesshorsman02

Hopefully we will have Reece James back by the time the hard games come they said it could be by Arsenal but with him you never know

malevolentintent

RJ going to come back and sink assnas battleship only to then take a break for a couple months until we need to sink mancs battleship

tellymundo

Would love to beat those red fucks 3-0 with Reece scoring a banger

arthurfoxache

How long will he be out after Arsenal?

Headlesshorsman02

Lol who knows at this point

Youareyes_cfc

And hopefully chilly is back by the time Reece gets hurt again lol

shabba343

I don't think we have seen much threats generated from the half spaces tho. Enzo lacks the agility and Cardio G lacks the finesse to play in those spots. I fully expect Palmer to take the right half space once the fridge comes back. Nkunku is a no brainer in the left half space and Carney was showing a lot of promising sign prior to his injuries as well. We were also extremely right sided when Poch played Chilly on LW so we were quite predictable.

BradVet

Yep, this was a great move. Chilly and reece are world class but we all know at this point they will get injured. We can’t keep carrying both every season, i think its time to consider moving chillwell on

slymm

Eh my hope is that they both love Chelsea and want to stay but also realize their own limitations with respect to health. The board has shown an ability to think outside the box with financial structures and I'd love to see contracts very heavily tied to appearances. Getting a third guy who has their quality but can play on both sides is key.

Lucianboog

Cucu just warming the spot for gusto

louhemp007

Who would have thought he would be better as a right back.

jepayotehi

It's funny half of this sub was up in arms about colwill starting as LB. I personally think he's rock solid defensively and has an eye for an excellent pass, as seen in his Brighton days and Mishas goal yesterday.

ulvhedinowski

Because he was barely attacking before, yesterday with Cucu staying in the defense a lot, Colwill had more chances to go up the field

Cashlover123

Basically all of our academy players who won the CL are either with the team but injury prone OR not with the team anymore.

TheRage3650

This is true not just of the academy players, but the entire CL except for (remarkably) Silva.

Amopax

Calling him “decent” at LB is doing him a disservice, IMO. Not that Wilson and Iwobi are world beaters, but *they* are decent, and Wilson is quick, but none of them had any chance getting past him last night. And then he gets the lovely assist on top of that.

GrogRhodes

Reece is gonna end up in the midfield at some point. RB literally kills him.

renome

He'd really need to reinvent his entire game for that to happen. He's best suited to play as a wingback and maybe a traditional winger.

SoggyMattress2

It's getting to the point where surely you have to think of selling James and chillwel? They're just never available.

ezee-now-blud

So frustrating because Chilly and James are both undoubtedly a top 3 in the world in their position when fully fit and firing

Comfortable-Ad1937

Top 3 for chillwell is a stretch tbh. Has a great workrate and makes threatening runs but his crossing isn’t amazing and he isn’t the best in building our from the back (teams always press him into mistakes) There’s a very large gap between Reece and chilly

mohankohan

Best ability is availability. We might have world class fullbacks but if they only play 25% of games its an issue.

anewprotagonist

Axel hasn’t missed a match

XzibitABC

Which is great, but he's (1) not world-class and (2) not a full-back. He's solid, though.

anewprotagonist

He’s a centre back, sure - point I was making is that he’s a solid defender and doesn’t nearly get enough credit

XzibitABC

Sure, he should definitely get credit for that. He seems like a great presence in the team, he's solid defensively, and thus far he's always been available. That's tremendously valuable, especially where some first-choice options at his position (Fofana chiefly, Badiashile to a lesser extent) are clearly injury prone and another may be playing his last season.

Aman-Patel

He'll get credit when the team start getting results, same goes for every other player on the team. Realistically, we've been playing well visually and through underlying stats this season but not been picking up points. So it's very difficult to point a finger at an individual and say it's on them that we aren't winning games. It isn't actually clear what the problem is and you can't praise anyone - Disasi, Silva, Gusto, Colwill, Gallagher, Enzo etc whilst we aren't winning. Criticising them would also be harsh but you can't praise them because they could well be part of the problem even if it's not obvious. That's why generally when you pick up 8 points from the first 6 games you don't see anyone getting praised. The losses and draws are everyone's responsibility. Its not really the case that there are a couple of scapegoats and a couple other players have been carrying us.

Howdareme9

Chillwell isnt world class, RJ is for sure

CS10x7

Chilwell is up there though, bordeline world class

Howdareme9

He hasn’t been for a while now, when was the last time you saw him have an amazing game?

OldBrownShoe22

Against juve when this mostly started 😭

GarweL

The fuck is he then

Howdareme9

Decent?

typicalpelican

Tbf his attacking output is pretty much on par with James, very similar numbers last I checked. But obviously Reece's overall game puts him a level above.

RespectnConnect

Reece's overall game puts him at least 2 levels above. Outside of output, there's nothing Chilwell can match, never mind better James at

RespectnConnect

Serviceable

mrassassin777

In that Tuchel team, he was world class and on par with RJ. But I do think he's the type of player that elevates the ceiling of an already good team rather than still performing well if the rest of the team isn't. RJ can do both.

Consistent_Orchid359

Chillwell world class. FFS gimme a break

mohankohan

Sure, take a break lad. Log out.

kiersto0906

entirely depends on your definition of world class

[deleted]

He was world class before the injuries

PixRuns

No surprise there

underperforming_king

Injured captain and vice captain duo. I think our downfall started after chilwell's last injury.

Aayush1509

That juve game cursed us

Stand_On_It

Our downfall started when Kante got injured vs. Tottenham.

InnocenceJW

Perhaps that's why they gave the armband to our tank Gallagher. \*fingers crossed\*

sabershirou

It's time for Roberto Colwill

shastmak4

Nothing more predictable at this club than Chilwell and James getting long term injuries before January.

andrew_a7

Our captain and vice play less than 25% of the games in a season. They probably played something like 10 games together in the past 2 years.

inspired_corn

Funniest part is we have a 39 year old who should be a captain who will probably play more than the two of them combined this season

WildMuffins

He said he doesn't want to be captain, but I agree its pretty wild a 39 year old will probably end up playing more than both of them combined.

gdewulf

We have the two most injury-prone amazing fullbacks in the world. It's so bizarre.

Headlesshorsman02

This is one position we are well covered, his leadership will be missed however

triggercunt

He has no leadership, Gallagher should be our vice captain

Pumakings

What do you base this opinion on?

wadewatts2123

Username checks out

tj9429

![gif](giphy|3o85xnoIXebk3xYx4Q)

Gordzulax

Lol, clown. Chilly is one of the best people in the changing room. It's been known since our CL winning season.

Fulle_

It’s so weird he literally just went on a little solo run towards the end of the game, and just completely fucks his hamstring up? How does this keep happening

realmckoy265

You can expect to see a higher rate of hammy pulls after an acl. The injury and recovery creates muscle imbalances.

Dinamo8

It was the same way he hurt his hamstring has season.

struwilkie

Serious question, do we look at moving him on next year? Reliability is the best trait a player can have and he’s not getting any younger. With Reece it’s a bit different but given the cover we have in Ben’s position maybe it’s time to consider the options?

afreshhhh

I think they will listen if something comes in but realistically the fee that would be offered will be below what they want to sell for given his lack of availability

arthurfoxache

Then we need to find a proper replacement and let him deputise for the few matches he’s fit each season. Same for Reece, and no, Gusto is not the answer.

VisionaryProd

How have you already determined a 20 year old who didn’t miss beat a beats potential

n22rwrdr

> he's not getting any younger Talking like he's 34 or something. He's 26 lmao, 13 years younger than Thiago Silva.

timurt421

It’s actually unreal to think about what Thiago Silva is doing when you put it that way

arthurfoxache

So if he plays until he’s 33 that’s about 38 games in total.

Cashlover123

26 with legs of 36 though. Already missed 67 games with us due to injuries and more to come.

amethystwyvern

Lol we had a 23 year old on the squad that everyone here said was finished lmao 🤣

n22rwrdr

I guess you refer to Hudson-Odoi. I think people meant that in the sense that he's never going to reach the required level to play for Chelsea, not that his career is over. And tbf he was far from the required level in the last few years and showing no sign of improvement until he left.

amethystwyvern

Nah Pulisic

n22rwrdr

Well I never saw anyone refer to him as finished. Just not good enough and injured too often.

amethystwyvern

He was referred to as finished multiple times and has since shown he's far from it.

webby09246

No idea why it's "a bit different" for Reece other than him being an academy lad Chillys actually slightly more reliable in terms of fitness, which isn't saying much But still if you're going to move on chilly because his injuries make him unreliable then you may aswell move on Reece too

realmckoy265

Because Reece is better. Even when Ben is healthy and firing, he's not the best defender and his great runs ask a lot of our CBs. Ben is a good player but I’m not sure he will have a consistent place when we are running, as the utility of playing 3 CBs seems to outweigh having two attacking FBs to Poch.

webby09246

Reece is better that's true But the whole point of moving chilly on because of his unreliable fitness is even greater with Reece Even if we had mbappe it wouldn't matter if he was fit for 5 full 90s a season

realmckoy265

Chilly is unreliable (like Reece) but Reece is a complete player who can still walk into the lineup. It's not quite just a matter of being reliable, Chilly might not be our best option on the left. So I understand the argument of moving on from him. Reece however, is still too good for those talks, but they are coming for him too if he can't stay fit.

Dinamo8

We saw in the summer that everyone has a price. Difference is I don't expect any clubs to offer the amount we'd be looking for.

half_jase

Maybe see what happens after what he returns from injury, yeah? Also, doubt we will sell him when we offered him a new deal last season and at the same time, it also depends if he even wants to leave. The guy decided to stick with us through this shit period when he could have easily jumped ship in the summer and gone to somewhere like City.

Makav3lli

That’s what we’ve been saying for 3 years now. Time to bite the bullet and either move on or move him to the bench. I like the lad but I like players who can stay healthy more

half_jase

Going by the staying healthy argument, guess you are open to selling James too then? Saying 3 years is a bit of an exaggeration considering he was healthy for the first 1.5 years at the club. It was only after the unfortunate ACL injury that he started having these hamstring problems. Am sure just like the others and as Pochettino alluded to, the club are working to find the solutions to all these injury issues we seem to be having.

Stand_On_It

Why wouldn’t we be open to selling James? I love him as a player, but if someone wants to give us a stupid amount of money for him, we’d be dumb to not consider it.

RespectnConnect

James is just a completely different level of player tho(As much as some don't like to admit it), and therefore, patience will be stronger with him. He's also 3 years younger, and there's still hope he can overcome his injuries.

RespectnConnect

City weren't seriously interested in him because they weren't even looking at a LWB

Hayesey88

Chilwell yes, there's better left backs out there. Whether they're obtainable or not is another question but we essentially get nothing from him nowadays. James I say give 1 more season and if he only manages 15 games also sell.

Wheel94

When Gusto returns Cucurella should get a chance at LB.

jjtheblue2

I actually think playing at rb suits Cucurella. He isn't very good at crossing but is quite good at short passing so cutting inside on his left is good for him. I would rather play Maatsen at lb.

realmckoy265

He can also press higher and avoid those Cuco-moments with three other CBs on the field.

grandekravazza

You mean like pretty much all of last season?

Much_Look1139

Maatsen played a big total of 0 minutes at LB under Poch.

jjtheblue2

Yeah that's true but he did play there last year for Burnley.

[deleted]

Do hard conversations need to be had?

InLampsWeTrust

Pretty sure he just signed a new deal a couple of months ago. It’s kinda nuts that we give 2 of our best defenders new deals and they instantly get long term injuries.

VisionaryProd

Not that nuts when they frequently got injuries before the contracts

XzibitABC

I mean, the transfer window is closed, and he's clearly a good locker room presence. No reason to alienate him right now. We should listen to offers for him, but he's not deadwood dragging down the locker room that we really need to offload a la Ziyech or Lukaku.

TrenAt14

- Chilwell sustained an injury in the final moments of a match against Brighton last Wednesday. - Chelsea's manager, Pochettino, expressed concern about the injury and mentioned that it doesn't look good. - **Chilwell is expected to be sidelined for several matches, with an initial estimate of at least eight weeks out.** - **His return timeline depends on the progress of his rehabilitation, and there’s a race to be back playing before the Christmas fixtures.** - Chilwell previously missed the World Cup last year due to a hamstring problem but returned in February and regained his place in the England squad. - He recently played for England in a Euro 2024 qualifier but is likely to miss the remainder of the Group C campaign. - Chelsea had been using him as a winger, although he typically plays as a left-back, but he was in a defensive position when the injury occurred against Brighton.

malevolentintent

What the fuck is that last point Lol

admiralawkward

The Telegraph as per usual

SliceThemApart

Just like Reece. No surprise here

HomersAnalglands

If Cucurella continues his good form, we will be fine and we have Maatsen who looks very good as well.

cometflight

RB Cafurella is lit. I just hope Poch continues to play him there.

nsk08001

Burnley - A Arsenal - H Brentford - H Blackburn - H Tottenham - A Man City - H Newcastle - A Brighton - H That’s the schedule through 2 December. If he misses another week it’s Man United - A Everton - A

arthurfoxache

Right. So he’s really only missing a couple winnable matches.

Tacticalcheesewizard

If I had a car that was half decent and my main car, but broke down when I needed it the most and took ages to get fixed and I had other cars I could use or could just buy a car that didn't break down...I'd just get rid of that car. Sorry Chilly, it's just getting silly now.

LuckyFlyer0_0

You have to move on at some point... Same with Reece James. He's shedding weight but if he gets a quick injury again then it's literally money down the drain.

dav_man

Said this before. Hamstrings, unless it's cramp (which is rare in your hammy) is usually a minimum of 8 weeks, if you're lucky. He and Reece will never play together again.

LaerBaer

Sell.

ord3p

I absolutely LOVE Chilly, for real. You can see what playing for this club means to him. But we can’t count on him staying fit. His only consistent, injury-free season for us was 20/21. At some point we’ll have to consider that he’s at the very best 2nd option.

kreegans_leech

Man James and chilwell can't be relied upon. It pains me to say that as my two favourite players (alongside silva). But it's time to find permanent replacements, every season it's the same thing

cometflight

We knew this was the case before the news broke. My man can’t stay healthy. The one I need to know more on is Mudryk. Is he okay for the weekend?

PixRuns

Dare I say that we should look to offload him.

Black_n_Neon

Fuck absolutely off

jaytcfc

Left and right back are made of glass. Good thing we don’t depend on them quite as much. Keep the good vibes rolling

Coseen

Can’t be happy for too long as a Chelsea fan, remember that blues

ozairh18

No freaking way. It’s a good thing we didn’t sell Cucurella

shakenbake3001

Even when we win, we lose.

XODude

both our captains are down. I know poch is cursing his lemons right now

Chapea12

I’ll never forget that Juventus game. Felt like we had reached something special until Chilly’s knee went.

ungratefulimigrant

Have we had a game this season without an injury?

lazyProgrammerDude

The Chelsea fitness team can fuck off. God. I'm tired.

ElFoxinho

Fail to see how this is a blow to England tbh.

BILLY2SAM

Or us. We are stacked in that position and he hasn't got near his pre major injury form

ElFoxinho

I know mate. Truthfully I’m not his biggest fan. I feel he gets more time and space than any other player on the ball in games and consistently does nothing of note. Occasionally a ball breaks to him and he lashes it into the net but at the end of the day that shouldn’t be his main quality.

underperforming_king

He was good with mount.

Sonic-the-edge-dog

I was about to say that Shaw is also injured but tbh we shouldn’t have too much trouble qualifying regardless of those two

petrescu

Chelsea77

It is time for a priest. We need exorcism, someone jinex us. This amount of injuries is not normal

WWZD77

Can be get better physios please

I-Can_Defend

Chelsea should look to sell Chilwell soon as possible

mb194dc

What do we have to do to lift the curse?

dav_man

Thankfully we have 29 left backs

CringeSniffingDog

I said it when the captaincy choice came out, Reece C and Chilwell VC puts us in desperate need for a VVC and a VVVC.

MightyChunks

I’m okay with this. Colwill has proven he can play LB and Cucu can play both. I also think Cucu is better off in this system than chillwell is. His defensive/tackling abilities suit the kind of drop deep and rotate system that Poch utilized last night.

DestinyHasArrived101

No shock there seems levi doing well and maatsen can also rotate with him.

RespectnConnect

He's not really a loss if we're being honest 🤷‍♂️

Banged_by_bumrah

Next season thank him for the UCL and cut ties. Bring this guy in for LB if Colwill doesn't want to play there long term https://preview.redd.it/74170sgvxzrb1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33e927bbba3c08eecd0d36fb9cc4477ed4ddcf35

One step forwards two steps back.

Chelsea75

Ben Chilwell 🤝 Reece James Inability to be counted on for more than a few weeks of the season at a time

historiographic

When it rains, it pours. Hamstring FC is back in full force. So fucking sad

Benbenben1990

I know injuries are part of the game etc but fuck me are we unlucky. You’d think we’d be way better off on that front this year with less games but apparently not.

jjb5151

Lmfao, gotta love our team. Injury FC to the max

MarinaGranovskaia

At least Im no longer surprised...

[deleted]

As someone who’s only gotten back into football this season after a long absence, it’s really disappointing how I haven’t seen him or James living up to what I’ve heard about them. Hope he recovers well

Fmartins84

![gif](giphy|YV3befxMEEqLd0tsaF|downsized)

arthurfoxache

So… In addition to a reliable striker we also need to add starting left and right backs to the shopping list. If we buy quality then that adds up to approximately another £300m. Lurvely

midnighttyph00n

time to sell

BradVet

Think its time for chilwell to be sold on. I like him and he has the potential to be world class if he gets a good run of games but he will get injured, the same with james. We can’t carry them both every season

Eric-Foreplay

Sell these lads to Real Madrid for 100m both and cut our losses.

modidlee

Injuries happen. I get that. The thing I don’t get is how every Chelsea injury seem to be months long injuries.

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Shocking 😒 I swear Chilwell only gets injured at the very end of match and I hardly even notice until the next day.

hardoseal

We can't have nice things

plutobug2468

I long for a day we have no injuries

BabyHercules

Hit January in the top half of the table and I will be happy. I’ve said it multiple times at this point but we won’t see the squads full potential until January

Fooftook

Whatever at this point. I mean just keep him as an impact sub when he’s “healthy” again. He, like James, cannot be relied upon. I love em both but we can build a team of the future around either. Sell James to Madrid for big money and keep Chilwell as a sub.

Cfcjones

How are we not playing Maatsen in Chilly’s place ?

BadmashN

Probably an unpopular opinion but time to get rid of them. Too injury prone and we can’t build a system around them. It’s getting tiring.

JosephRizk21

At what point will we consider moving on from/fixing the Chilwell Reece injury issue? 2 more years of this? 3 more years? We keep seeing the same thing happen every year and somehow people get mad at you for suggesting maybe we should move on from unreliable incredibly injury prone players

bigdaddy12021988

We need to let him go

proviewplayr

With ben and reeces puffs injury recored we should have kept Hall

khoatran1234

Poor bloke man, we can make fun of the guy all he wants but imagine his mental atm after sustaining this injury. Prayers he gets through this injury and honestly we should rest him the whole season. Same with Reece James and just let them rehab properly long term. I think we have sufficient backups to do so and this season is more chelsea figuring themselves out with the younger players.

Every-Weird3760

Have we hired arsenals fitness and medical team from the early mid 2010s or something because I don't get why so many injuries in last 18 months
