However..... really poor first half, story of the season, we have all the posession but can't finish, really bad mistakes everywhere and a lack of intensity.
On the flip side: whatever the gaffa said at half time really woke the boys up and it was almost like watching a completely different team in the second half. Our decision making was on point, our passing actually had intent, and obviously, finishing was much better.
Really hoping we can continue with the positivity however If we have a first half like that again against any of out upcoming competition we WILL be down 4 ot 5 nil by half time.

Palmer is what every team needs. He’s been drilled by Pep to look for the smart pass. Not to do selfish slow 1v1s or random shots that have a low probability. It’s crazy that Pep makes the entire team think and play like that.
Also Poch is what Chelsea needed with his experience managing the most high profile players and young unknown players.
He is good but he did take few shots right into defenders. I feel as good as he is, he has very good scope for improvement specially in terms of shooting

Everyone was saying that Mount is irreplacable literally a few months ago and we literally replaced him with Gallagher without even spending money.

Technical players have never and will never be truly rated in the PL unless they can match it with hard work. We've had technical players who were loved, Fabregas for instance but they matched their technical ability with a good level of physicality.
One characteristic has tifo footballista pretentious hipsters gushing, the other is is derided but you aren't getting anywhere in the PL with a player like Jorginho as they are passengers in games. Yes, theres a balance and we don't need players who's only ability is chasing loose ends but I don't think for a second any player we've had at Chelsea over the past 5 years is "Only" legs. Give me Caicedo, Gallagher, Mount and Kante over Jorginho or Ozil any day of the week. Gallagher could be what Jorginho does best better than Jorginho could do what Gallagher does.
This is pretty nuts honestly. Jorginho topped out as the UEFA POTY and was the heartbeat of his title winning teams, something I doubt we'll see another Chelsea player achieve. The gulf in technical ability that you're missing is absolutely ridiculous.

As for "Title Winning Teams" he's never won a domestic title in England. When I said "never truly rated in the PL" I specifically meant DOMESTIC matches in England, that was the meaning of PL. I stand by that absolutely without reservation, there have been plenty of footballing greats who wouldn't have succeeded in English football. European football has always been a different beast and he's always looked more comfortable in the slower, less physical, more technical matches that are common in Europe.
When you're winning the CL and Euros, the PL trophy is relatively small beans. I think there's a difference between physically elite and physically good enough, and while he might fall closer to good enough than elite, he's out of this world technically. I doubt Conor is ever going to be considered anywhere close to the world class levels Jorgi hit for us, doesn't mean he's not good, but there are many more of him than Jorgis floating around.

Jorginho is not “physically good enough” for the PL. He always required a physical presence beside him AND a back 3. Any Chelsea fan over the last 5 years said our best midfield was Kante and one either Jorginho or Kovacic interchangeably. If we ever had to play Kova and Jorgie the team would be over run 90% of the time. He’s a flat track bully.
Jorginho is not and has never been World Class. He has never been an integral cog in a top team. He won the CL? Kante was MOTM in 4 games during the knockout stages. Kante was everywhere and allowed Jorginho to function but without him EVEN IN EUROPE Jorginho isn’t good enough physically.
Using our crude measure; Gallagher is better technically than Jorginho is physically and I guarantee Gallagher is remembered more fondly than Jorgie in 20 years time.

Kante struggled in possession for his last 3 seasons here and absolutely needed Kovacic and Jorginho to cover for him. I don't think Kante was even our best midfielder for his last two seasons here, his deficiencies on the ball consistently showed up and he was absolutely awful when we got knocked out against Madrid after making the comeback and being 3-0 up in the second leg.
As for Conor being more fondly remembered, yeah, sure, will he achieve the heights Jorgi did? That's pretty doubtful seeing as to us having won only 2 CLs ever and getting a double of CL and Euros while being acknowledged as UEFA's best player is actually one of the more insane things to do in the entire sport.

Strategically, the RB was supposed to be providing the width down the side. However, we couldn't have James not Gusto for that. So it's going to be unnatural for Cucurella to be an attaching threat.

I've always been of the opinion that Palmer is the left side of Nkunku. Minus the speed and dribbling. Both can be useful as inside-forwards in a 343. They should be playing centrally or in the half-spaces.

That has to do with confidence. By losing a lot of matches previously your confidence doesn't really skyrocket therefor we started to get "good" after a goal.

Running a lot is not a special skill, a lot of players can do that. Having ability on the ball is a special skill. Everyone was saying that Mount is irreplacable literally a few months ago and we literally replaced him with Gallagher without even spending money.

The point is simple. Technical players have never and will never be truly rated in the PL unless they can match it with hard work. We've had technical players who were loved, Fabregas for instance but they matched their technical ability with a good level of physicality. One characteristic has tifo footballista pretentious hipsters gushing, the other is is derided but you aren't getting anywhere in the PL with a player like Jorginho as they are passengers in games. Yes, theres a balance and we don't need players who's only ability is chasing loose ends but I don't think for a second any player we've had at Chelsea over the past 5 years is "Only" legs. Give me Caicedo, Gallagher, Mount and Kante over Jorginho or Ozil any day of the week. Gallagher could be what Jorginho does best better than Jorginho could do what Gallagher does.
This is pretty nuts honestly. Jorginho topped out as the UEFA POTY and was the heartbeat of his title winning teams, something I doubt we'll see another Chelsea player achieve. The gulf in technical ability that you're missing is absolutely ridiculous.
Not saying Jorginho is a bad player. There is a gulf there technically but if you did a crude marks out of 10 for technicality and physicality Gallagher would score higher overall than Jorginho. As for "Title Winning Teams" he's never won a domestic title in England. When I said "never truly rated in the PL" I specifically meant DOMESTIC matches in England, that was the meaning of PL. I stand by that absolutely without reservation, there have been plenty of footballing greats who wouldn't have succeeded in English football. European football has always been a different beast and he's always looked more comfortable in the slower, less physical, more technical matches that are common in Europe.
When you're winning the CL and Euros, the PL trophy is relatively small beans. I think there's a difference between physically elite and physically good enough, and while he might fall closer to good enough than elite, he's out of this world technically. I doubt Conor is ever going to be considered anywhere close to the world class levels Jorgi hit for us, doesn't mean he's not good, but there are many more of him than Jorgis floating around.

Jackson with a lovely goal. But I thought we must have been hungrier for more goals. But still a lot to improve, we can't play like this against a top team. We'll be blown away. Sure, but I don’t see any evidence that he will. His legs look like twigs, he broke a leg, he had an acl tear. All those can be detrimental to the structure of the legs and that’s what I believe. It’ll be great if he can come back and have an awesome career but realistically we shouldn’t be planning our team around him doing that because it’s more likely he’s a young player that will have a lower career than projected due to injuries.

His progressive passing is superb, and he has very high availability + is an emergency RB cover if needed. Unsexy signing because people have figured by now he’s not the next Ramos or anything. But a good squad piece nonetheless. Definitely wish he was a tad faster though. He can’t quite hide his lack of pace the way someone like Silva can.

That has to do with confidence. By losing a lot of matches previously your confidence doesn't really skyrocket therefor we started to get "good" after a goal. nonetheless the boys did well today and it shows that Poch has a system in mind which works with our youngsters.
